    They made it right! Tami reached out and offered to redo the shades that were falling apart and give us a discount on redoing the others so that they matched. They look much better now. Thanks for the help, Tami!

    Sewing is terrible and creates pleats that cannot be smoothed,  steamed or adjusted out.

    TLDR: Run - do not walk - away from the shade store. The worst customer experience and product quality experience I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and order from someone else - every step of this experience has been poor. I'd sew these shades myself for a fraction of the cost and probably end up with better quality. When we first walked in the store, unacknowledged by sales staff, I asked "so who gets to help us?" and watched 2 people hesitate and look at each other, before one finally said "that will be me." It was at this point I should have known. Alas, the sheer fabrics and their perceived quality and the artful pictures got me, so we carried on. Next we had measurements done - a generally painless experience until we later realized they were wrong - every single shade was too long. After holding my breath placing the $$$$ order, I was given a status page with shipment date that meant nothing. The date came and went without any update - then it took 1.5 weeks to get any update from 5 different people on its status. Everyone we talked to had no idea what was happening and feigned shock (I now see this is not a new issue). We finally got word that our order did not pass quality control and was being remade. A little pause for concern, but I naively thought a QC process was a good thing. But now I have ZERO idea how any of the shades we finally received passed a QC check. There are so many issues with them that not a single shade is of remotely acceptable quality for the price we paid -- these don't resemble the shades were were sold in any way. Gaping holes exposing rods, terrible sewing that creates awful pleats that cannot be steamed or smoothed, ink marks on the cords, glue spots and excessive pulling on the fabric. The different panels within the same shade are not the same width so there are random gaps down the sides that don't make straight edges. The panels are also inconsistent lengths - so the shades we have right next to each other look completely mismatched. The cord mechanism does not work consistently on any of the shades - when pulled up, one side droops so the bottom is uneven and cannot be adjusted to even out. When we shared these issues, we were offered shock and also a thought of "maybe a different fabric or style would be better?" WHAT?! We placed an order of several thousand dollars - after months of this being our selected fabric/style, multiple visits to the store and talks with more than one designer, a review of the order by the production team required before we could fully place it - and THEN get that feedback? Without any confidence?Complete and total loss of faith in the shade stores ability to rectify these issues.

    In2020 I purchased new shades for my apartment. The cords controlling the shades began showing signs of fraying in about 9 months. The shades were replaced and the new shades began fraying as well. I was told that these were the wrong shades for the location but I had purcahsed the same size and type of shades for the lower apartment and never had any problems with them. Victim blaming rather than dealing with the real problem which was shoddy manufacturing. (I was told the company had changed manufacturers in 2019. ) After much back and forth they replaced the shades which (after a year) do not yet show signs of fraying. However one cord snapped and the store will not do anything to restring it. Their business model insists that I have someone come to the house to take the shade. They will not let me return it to the store to send out for restringing. Over the years I have had numerous of their personnel to my house to assess the problem, to remove the shades, to reinstall the shades. The people sent range from very nice, to so creepy I grabbed a sharp letter opener and visibly held it while he was in my apartment, one person smelled so bad I had to open windows and burn incense after he left. When The shades were removed I had to cover the windows with newspaper . It was so depressing and went on for several weeks, and this happened multiple times as the same problem occurred with the replacement shades. They will not service their poorly made product and I will now have to purchase new shades that actually work from another source. These were expensive shades and this company has decided I am too much trouble for simply insisting that I get shades that actually work and they now refuse to have anything to do with helping me repair their shades. Do not use this store. They are willing to sell a shoddy product and will not stand behind the products they sell. AND THESE SHADES ARE PRICEY $$$$

Budget Blinds of Berkeley and Richmond was fast, easy and pleasant to work with, and the product is very good. On Saturday, I submit an request for an appointment and a staff person texted me back right away to acknowledge the request, even though it was Saturday. So, they really pay attention! A gentleman named Mass came to my home to measure and show products; he arrived on time and had answers to all my questions, and brought a large, well-organized showbook of many samples that I could touch and compare. Mass does not do a "hard sell." He is understanding and easy going. My shades took 2 -3 weeks to arrive, which is typical of custom-made shades. It was easy to schedule installation soon after their arrival. The same person, Mass, does both the measuring and installation. He did a great job installing the blinds quickly. The manufacturer made an error on the small kitchen blind, which was replaced and installed literally within 5 business days. Custom blinds, with professional measurements and professional installation, are not cheap. But if you want it done right and done quickly, and pleasantly, Budget Blinds of Berkeley and Richmond is the way to go! Very happy with product and service!

The only reason the job didn't get 5 stars is that when we were told we would be charged shipping in addition, we couldn't have guessed that when we received the formal estimate, we would find curtains costing a little less than $1000 required a delivery fee of over $100. When I said I would pick it up rather than having it shipped, I was told the work is done elsewhere and shipping costs have gone up. Clearly the work is being done in faraway places to save on local labor costs. My question is whether the customer should be paying that surcharge or whether a company that saves on labor by shipping it elsewhere should swallow the shipping cost rather than passing it on to the consumer?

She was friendly, professional, and patient through the process, and never pushy or salesy. Anna brought in swatch samples for us to consider based on our stated preferences, and it really helped to have the swatches at home when making color and fabric decisions. She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with the design process. The installation person was wonderful as well, and we ended up with something beautiful and functional. It's been 6 months, and the roller blinds have changed the room to be more functional and cooler for us, as bright sunlight hits the room in the afternoon. I recently called Anna again for another project and quickly realized that I did not need custom window coverings for this project. Anna went the extra mile of telling me how I could accomplish my goals, and once again, greatly helped our family with her honest, experienced recommendations.
