ROBIN EVERHART IS AMAZING. Request him upon arrival immediately! Knowledgeable, professional, patient, all of it! Thank me later!

The shades look amazing, but the quality is awful, which is shocking given the cost. I've had to have several replaced because they simply fell apart, and it has not been easy, a lot of back and forth. And when you want to order more shades, it's such a hassle. I had to beg for a quote practically. If anything happens to your shades, don't expect any support. I got some water damage and they were like, yeah they're ruined you should spend another $1000. Definitely getting the rest of my shades elsewhere. read more

Robin Everhart in the 4th St store in Berkeley gets my highest recommendation -- his knowledge base, professionalism, and patience are all above and beyond. It is a pleasure to work with him on any project, for my design clients or my own home; what a gem! read more

Working with Robyn at the Shade Store on Fourth Street was like working with a designer - professional, organized, knowledgeable and extremely successful! The measuring and installation went very well, the samples in the showroom are abundant and very helpful, and the quality of the finished product is gorgeous. I will continue to use this business read more

We love the Shade Store! Specifically, Kristin Argue has been such a god-sent in helping us navigate through the process of designing and purchasing our shades and curtains. Everything turned out beautifully, but more importantly, everything came out perfectly because Kristin painstakingly went through all the measurements and details, so no stone was left unturned! Thanks so much for all your assistance! 10/10 would recommend :) read more

We ordered roller shades from The Shade Shop and the whole experience was wonderful! Kristin was very knowledgeable and friendly. She listened carefully to our needs and gave us professional advice without being "pushy". The fabric sample packet was great. Ira (?) took meticulous measurements of our windows. He was very efficient and provided extremely helpful advice about how the shades should be hung. John (?) installed the shades quickly and expertly. He made a couple of adjustments when asked without any concerns. I highly recommend The Shade Shop! read more

I just want to post a shout out for Robin Everhart for helping us with our gorgeous shades for our window seat. We ran into some trouble spots along the way but Robin smoothed our path and made sure we got exactly what we wanted. He's a true professional and The Shade Store is lucky to have him! While I'm at it the design and build of the shades was flawless and the installers were exceptional - trying to help us in every way. Thank you Robin and team! read more

My experience has been extremely positive. Not because everything went perfectly, no we had our share of issues but the way they handled every issue was amazing. After a year we noticed a screeching sound and they inspected the shade, realized it was slightly misaligned, shipped a new one, installed it, boxed up the old one neatly and provided a shipping label for pickup. Their communication, professionalism and processes were just amazing. And things go wrong with design as expected so no loss of points! Ty for everything! read more

Robin Everhart and team at The Shade Store Berkeley are some of my favorite people to work with. Their process (from professional measurement through to installation) takes all of the pressure off, and makes for a great designer and client experience. I can't say enough great things about this team, and look forward to future years of collaboration. Best, Ashley Senior Designer Joy Street Design read more

I had an exceptional experience with Andrea from the Berkely store. Her customer service is phenomenal in every level. She's patient, detailed, professional and truly cares about the end result and that the customer would be happy. Can't recommend her more! read more

Jacklyn did contact me on the day she promised and she assured me that The Shade Store cares about customer's satisfaction and want to make this right so she offered to remake my shades with lining. She helped me pick out the privacy lining based on my situation and sent the remake order right away. The remade order was sent on 3/4, she expedited the order and I received the new shades on 3/13! My husband installed the new shades and I couldn't be happier with the end product! I am very satisfy with The Shade Store customer service and would recommend it to my friends and family! Thank you so much!! read more

The lack of response (after emailing twice) and no follow-up (after a store visit) is annoying - I'm basically giving them easy business with the intention of spending thousands, yet this level of customer service is unacceptable. Even when I was there, it was mostly hands off. We worked with The Shades Store many years ago and want to keep the same hardware, but I'll work with a different branch and may just order online. read more

I was referred here because I wanted to get a quote on shades but the guy at the front desk, I think his name was Rudy, was very off-putting. When we walked in, he was very dismissive and unwelcoming. The 1st impression is a lasting impression, and that set the tone for me so I left and waited outside for my partner. When she came out, she told me she asked him if they sold motorized blinds for the exterior. His reply was, "interior or exterior?" She repeated exterior. He said no. As she proceeded to walk out, he referred her to Truitt and White, which is down the street. Truitt and White only sell windows, NOT window coverings. I'm almost certain he knew that already and based off his demeanor, I'm sure his purpose was to waste our time. I did read the negative reviews before going here but I like to form my own opinion, especially when I plan to spend money. Don't waste your time here. One of the negative reviews said that Hunter Douglas was an option. I'll check them out. read more

Top line message: High end product with high end pricing. Unfortunately my experience with customer service was poor. Details: Once I visited the show room and decided to move forward with Shade Store blinds, I had a really hard time working with my sales person as he didn't treat my requests very seriously. I had to email and call several times over the course of a week before getting a reply for scheduling my measuring appointment. Once that task was complete, I could not get an installation appointment for several weeks due to demand, no fault of theirs, but it does make this relatively simple home improvement take much longer than anticipated-- and advertised! Then, I get a call from my customer support rep suggesting my installation take place on Memorial Day, "That's a holiday, is your team working?" "Yes. And the schedule is clear!" .... four days later, "Turns out the installation team is not working on the holiday..." Yet another snafu. Too bad, because the blinds are great and the installation was easy! read more

No one ever answers the phone. I've called numerous times during business hours on different days.

Robin was a pleasure to work with start to finish. Helped us select our blinds, coordinated install, etc. We are very pleased with the end result! read more

Loved the customer service Kristin offered. From the start, she was responsive, accommodating, and efficient. We got samples mailed to us at home before we ever stepped foot into the showroom. The variety of fabrics was comprehensive, and the price competitive. Couldn't have asked for a better experience! read more

We ordered some motorized shades for a West facing bedroom. These guys nailed it - from the site measure, to excellent customer service and even photorealistic mock ups which they emailed me to help visualize what the shades would look like in my space. It's worth paying a little extra if you can for the whole service - it really worked for us. read more

Worked with Andrea extensively to find the right shades for my whole house. She has fantastic insights and takes her time to make sure you are absolutely thrilled with your investment. She single handedly turned around what started as a bad experience (measurer not showing up after waiting weeks for an appointment) and made sure that I was taken care of. I was very close to going with a competitor for my window treatments, but in the end decided to go with the shade store although it cost a bit more because of the customer service. Working through a production issue now but I'm confident Andrea and the Shade Store have me covered! read more

Extremely disappointing experience overall. When I first started the process of working with Tiffany at The Shade Store in Berkeley, I had no idea I would still be struggling to get the job completed over 3 months later. She was initially somewhat responsive, but not to the degree that I would have hoped, given the high cost of their products/services. Nevertheless, I was very excited to get these custom shades and was willing to pay for what I hoped was the best quality. Since that initial hopefulness, I've experienced failures with delivery and installation dates, 1 shade with a hole in it, 2 incorrectly made valances, and over a half dozen unfulfilled promises (from The Shade Store customer service) to replace the items with defects. All the while, no returned calls or emails from the Berkeley store. read more

seamless perfect, brilliant service from showroom through installation; and the shades are truly lovely! Highly recommend The Shade store

Excellent customer service during COVID. Had to make a reservation but Kristin offered to send me various samples to my home multiple times instead of me having to come back in. The installation crew was also very professional and efficient. They wore shoe covers in my home and took away all the packaging trash after installing the shade. It was very easy and although you pay a premium, the quality, customer service and hassle free installation more than make up for it. read more

I am very happy with my purchase of blinds from The Shade Store in Berkeley. My experience on the sales side wasn't terrific (slow responses to questions, supposedly final quote pricing not for the blinds we discussed but for "ones everyone prefers") so I suggest asking for Robin Everhart who gets great reviews. My installation was done by Lance Fore who I cannot recommend highly enough. He was pleasant and efficient and very helpful in the adjusting cords. Ask for him if you can! Measurement was also efficient. read more

Here is what I wrote yesterday to Mariko my "sales and service rep" crickets so far. She wrote me checking in after all the trouble I've had, I would rate this business 0 stars if I could. The service was horrible for the amount of money paid. I would never recommend this to anyone I know, I will be leaving a highly detailed negative review of what I went through. I'm not impressed that you chose now to send me an email "checking in" after the project was basically done no thanks in part to your assistance or "service". There is such a disconnect from your offices to you installation service to your customer service. I was told that the installation drop dead date would not be met 1 week before the date, I got no warning from anyone not you or the corporate offices. They told me finally after arguing on the phone they would expedite it. The ordeal goes on and gets more and more absurd. I was sent a correction because the large shade was off by 1/4" on both sides, but I wasn't told this I just got some obscure email that said there was a reorder and I was sent a large package and then called for installation, I was confused and got no notice from installers or anyone about the "mistake". There are gaps and overlaps in the other window shades the measurements and installation turned out horribly, I just don't have time for this, I can't believe I paid almost 15k$ for this. I check online and it would been much cheaper for me to measure and install this myself. This is the single worst experience I've had with any thing I've paid this much for. Still waiting for the promised contact, outside of permanent spamming advertisements nothing from aforementioned!! read more

In 2020 I made the decision to replace the old shades in my office. I went to The Shade Store because I walk by their store on 4th Street regularly. A measurement was scheduled for November 13th (it was a Friday). Someone came by and and took the measurements, it was quick. After a couple of weeks I called and left a voicemail asking what was happening with my order. I got an email scheduling a measurement appointment. After some back and forth it turned out that the measurement information hadn't been entered and was now lost. A new measurement appointment was scheduled and the order was placed and paid for the beginning of January. The order was for a grass fabric shade with a translucent liner to let in light. There was a slight delay because the material was on back order. Finally the shades were delivered and the installer scheduled for Thursday (Feb 18) afternoon at 3PM. I work at home so I could multitask a webinar and work in the morning, and then get dressed and move furniture, lamps, etc. blocking access to the window at lunch. At 9:30 the door bell rang. Since it had already taken longer than desired I left the webinar and rearranged the office as needed. Installation was quick. After the installer left I was looking at the shades and thinking they weren't correct. The lining was a blackout fabric making the room a dark cave. More back and forth and it turns out that the fabric can't be lined with the selected liner. Okay no liner is fine. Fabric is back ordered until April 30th. Then I did my research, probably better options out there for shades. I look forward to the day when I no longer have to deal with these people. read more

I've worked with the Shade Store on 4th Street multiple times, specifically with Kristin Argue who is an immense support to my interior design business. I've used them for two shades now! Although they're about 20% more expensive than other shade companies, the quality of product looks more high-end and their products stand the test of time. I will be back for more! read more

We ordered our shades and have had nothing but problems since. First the order was supposedly delayed because a problem with the material. Then it was back on and scheduled to be shipped. Then they called to schedule installation. Yeah! I take off work and wait 3 hours, at the last minute the installer shows up and says: "Do you have the blinds?" I'm like, "No, you're the installer, don't you have them?" Apparently, they were supposed to be shipped to our house. I got a tracking number, but the shipment location was Los Altos. The store and my house are in Berkeley. I figured they were sending me the shipment number to confirm they arrived at their warehouse, and were now there locally. No one communicated anything about expecting a shipment of the blinds to our house. No one said anything. They certainly didn't waste any time charging the FULL amount to my credit card. That happened immediately. Now, a month later . . . I rest my case. I don't know what's going to happen now. 8/6/18 P.S. We received notice that our order is back-ordered to 8/13 at which time the shades will be made. Expect a week more for production, another week for shipping, and who knows how long a wait for installation. September? Started in May. White blinds. Doesn't seem that unique. read more

I've been trying to give my money to these people for 10 weeks. They've been to my house three times to take measurements and each time they failed to do it correctly. Thus, I have not been able to complete my order. I am trying to purchase shades for my entire house. You would think that they would show some interest in completing this order, but there is absolutely no follow-up from their end. Furthermore if they cannot accurately complete a measurement for Shades one must wonder exactly how well they would install them in the end. read more

I had an excellent experience with the shade store. Kristin Argue is super helpful & attentive. I highly recommend this store. High quality products & reasonably priced. Thank you! read more

Finishing up a year long re-model and it was time to get real live window coverings; the Home Depot cheap blinds were not going to cut it anymore. Brandon at the Shade Store was extremely helpful and suggested getting the first step out of the way and making an appointment to have the windows measured - with that done we could take our time choosing different styles and fabrics... which was extremely wise as the measurement appointment took maybe 30 minutes, but with the Shade Store's enormous selection of window treatment styles and fabrics... yeah that took much longer. But Brandon and his team were so very helpful in suggesting what fabrics looked better with our window types and ever though it took a couple of weeks to finalize our choices, they were ever helpful even as my wife and I went back and forth trying to decide what we wanted. We finalized everything and the installation was quick and clean. We'll definitely be back if we ever need window treatments again. Thanks! read more

We've been working with The Shade Store setting up the window treatments in our new home - and they have been absolutely fantastic. Excellent product...however the follow through and attention to detail (with Tiffany Elvin) is horrible. For the price, she should be more responsive. I can't tell you how many times we've had to follow up with her via call or email even after being very specific with what we need - writing everything down. She's very nice, just not great with attention to detail and follow through. Takes several attempts and really delays the timelines. read more

We had a great experience working with Kristin Argue at the Shade Store in Berkeley to select and install a variety of shades for our whole home. The quality of the materials and hardware, and variety of styles, textures and patterns, that the Shade Store offers cannot be beat. Kristin was easy to work with and gave us the information we needed to decide between different window treatment styles based on our needs (i.e. roller shades vs cellular shades and the option of shades that can be opened from the top down and/or the bottom up.) She was also very responsive in updating our order and quote based on final tweaks we made to the specifications. The team was efficient and professional during measurement and installation appointments. And most importantly, we love the finished product! read more

I worked closely with Mariko Blakemore at the 4th Street Berkeley store. She has an excellent eye, practical sense and she approaches the project like an interior designer. I needed to travel while trying to decide what to order for 3 rooms and 2 doors. She quickly responded to all my questions by email when we could not physically meet. We shared photos to clarify the communication between us. After the installation was completed, I realized I could see the top of one valence over a door. Mariko and the Shade Store company offered a solution and quickly addressed my situation to satisfy me. The installer was consistently polite, neat and timely. read more

We recently purchased new roller shades for our living room and dining room windows. Couldn't be happier with our purchase. The shades are beautiful and excellent quality. Brandon Riddlesperger the sales representative in store was extremely helpful when selecting the shade type and design for our needs. This is our third purchase from the Shade Store. Love them all!! Highly recommend!!!! read more

We worked with Kristin Argue this past winter to get shades for our entire house. We went in and had a fun consultation, and then went through the process of ordering our shades (all of which was timely and painless). The installation was also easy and our service guy finished faster than quoted. When one of the shades ended up not working for us (blackout shades mounted outside leaked too much light) she worked to get it remade and reinstalled for free. I can't tell you how much her help, and kindness meant to us. We love our shades! The only reason I don't give this a 5-star review is we opted to get a child safety feature for the pull cords which after months of living with them are more trouble than they are worth. The magnets are not strong enough and we are constantly dealing with them coming apart and making opening/closing challenging. Even with this though I HIGHLY recommend The Shade Store and especially Kristin. She's awesome! read more
