We were looking for a quick bite and found this small Cuban place in Hammocks Town Center between a laundromat and a veterinarian. I had the pan con lechon sandwich on Cuban bread. One of the most yummy and satisfying pan con bistecs I've had in a long time. True story: after a long morning of work at the nearby hospital, my co workers and I passed by some other co workers who were just opening their takeaway boxes from, what we would found out shortly after, were from Miwi Cafe. It looked so good that we decided to hop in our car and take the short drive there to indulge. An unsuspecting cafe in the middle of a West Kendall shopping plaza, complete with a ventanita and a long dining room inside, we set our eyes to the menu above the counter. Each dish had a picture attached to it and I love that--a visual in addition to the description. The gentleman taking my order was kind and the service was quick. Picking up on my beginner-level Spanish, he quickly adapted his language which I never expect, but always appreciate. Our food was fresh and ready in just minutes and my pan con bistec was, dare say I, divine. The Cuban bread was warm and still fluffy, the mayo-ketchup to fillings ratio was just right, the lettuce was crispy, the tomato sliced just right, the onions flavorful and the palomilla was perfectly soft. Needless to say the papitas were deliciously crunchy as well. With a side of crinkle cut fries, it was a hearty lunch to remember and I ate every last bite. It was one of those meals with friends, that you all just sit and enjoy while barely talking because you're so busy eating. My husband called in to place an order for pick up. We gave the order, they repeated it back to us and it was correct. When we got there, they packed it all up and assured him it was all there. When we got to the ball park for my son's baseball game, we opened up the food and everyone's order was correct except for mine. I ordered a Miwi sandwich which is ham, cheese, bacon, mayo, lettuce and tomatoes. We said no lettuce and tomato....instead all we got was bread, mayo and bacon. 1 star due to new management- if I could give 5 stars to only the employee I would, but I'm giving 1 star solely because of management I've been visiting MiWi's Café in Miami for years, and my girlfriend even longer. The food and service have always been fantastic, with staff like Oli, who has been a gem for years. Oli always remembers our names and orders, and her service is consistently excellent. Unfortunately, since the café was taken over by a new owner, the atmosphere has shifted. The employees, once cheerful and engaged, now seem stressed. During our last visit, we saw the owner speaking harshly to the staff, which was disappointing and uncomfortable. The food and efficiency remain top-notch, but the change in management has impacted the overall vibe. We truly hope the new owner values the dedicated team and brings back the welcoming atmosphere we've always loved. And a special shout-out to Oli for being amazing through it all! read more

Miwi has always been a great place to eat, even with the new owner, it's only gotten better. That said, they have started service seafood but only have one grill. So last I was there some steak was being cooked next to shrimp and only scraped after as form of cleaning. I think better signage is necessary for safety. Everyday I wake up early to study for a big exam to get into law school. The breakfast they serve at miwis is so delicious, it motivates me to get out of bed and start my day right before a long day of studying. The cafe con leche is perfect temperature, taste and blend of coffee and milk. I truly enjoy picking up my breakfast here everyday. I highly recommend anyone to try it out! Authentic little Cuban cafe. No frills, exceptional service, and some of the best Cuban sandwiches around. This definitely has a "family owned" feel and am so glad my husband and I found it. The amount of food that you get for the price you pay is beyond fair. I ordered the steak sandwich that came with plantain chips, side of fries, and a drink- which you can substitute for a cafe con leche and only paid $13.25. A true steal. Miwi never disappoints. Call them up around lunch time pretty frequently and ask for a pan con bisteak. 5-10 minutes it is ready to go. I live pretty close so after hanging up I start heading over. Food hot and ready and ladies at the counter are always very nice and get you your food quickly and have you on your way in no time. I wasn't the biggest fan of their fries for a while but they since changed to shoestring fries (kind of like steak and shake) and I appreciate that change a lot. When I come here for lunch, I always order the Pan con Bistec sandwich. It's pretty good but be prepared, the actual steak is very thin. It comes with tomatoes, shoestring potatoes, onions, and a pink sauce (I think it's just ketchup and mayo). Some people like to add Swiss cheese. My coworkers ordered the tuna sandwich last time and said it was good. I'm going to give it a try next time. The employees are very courteous. A tender cut of steak topped with ripe tomatoes, crisp lettuce, and the delicious Miwi sauce in between crisp slices of Cuban bread. This has always been a favorite of mine on Saturday morning, when I want breakfast that is simple, quick and good. The empanadas are great, with the right spices and good amounts of meat. The deditos are also a great compliment, which is simply cheese wrapped in pastry bread, but somehow comes out tasting like a sweet treat. Grab some coffee, (traditional latin varieties found in any good Miami cafe) and you are good-to-go. Friendly staff gets you out of there in only a few minutes, or you can take your time at a table. The only drawback, is that they don't accept credit cards. Hey, the card companies do charge some nasty rates, so I can't complain too much. Here's my only problem with Miwi - they are wayyyy too expensive for a Cafeteria. I think I purchased 2 empanadas, a dedito (cheese filled pastry) and a cafe con leche- it was like $7. Way to expensive for street food. I could easily buy twice as much food at the bakery down the street and it's just as yummy.
