Our first time trying nepali food! Service was great, waitress was helpful with suggestions. Clean place, clear that staff work well together shuffling between waiting tables and also completing what looked like a large catering order. Would recommend to others.

Nepali and Tibetan teas.

This is a wonderful Nepali restaurant which is completely different from Indian cuisine. The flavors are unique and surprising. The fish and vegetarian thalis have a blend of healthy dishes with unique combinations of spices. There is a kind of dumpling called jhol momo which I highly recommend. It has a rich sauce with peanuts. Sadeko wai wai is my favorite appetizer, something like chaat but with other kinds of ingredients. The Nepali and Tibetan teas are an excellent way to end the feast. Many people who eat here are from the region.

Gulab Jamun w/yogurt: deep fried milk solids soaked in a sweet sauce with yogurt.

The service is always top notch serving Nepali loving kindness with a side of the most amazing foods. My wife completely enjoyed her mild Dum Aloo and Egg fried rice. Himalaya On Heights is one of only a couple restaurants that make a mild she can tolerate. She said that the spices used for the Dum Aloo are super tasty with no heat and the Egg Fried Rice is not oily, is loaded with tasty veggies, and seasoned perfectly. As always I enjoyed the steamed Veggie Momo and Veggie Thali. The green Momo sauce has become my favorite but I could eat their Momo without sauce. Not only are the Momo beautifully made, they are extra tasty. The Veggie Thali had pickle, mustard greens, urad dal, and a black eyed pea curry that were all extremely balanced with flavors leaving me feeling like I just left my Mom's house after a hearty home cooked meal. The dessert that comes with my Thali is unlike any Gulab Jamun I have ever had. I had Butter Tea with my meal and it was exactly like one I received when meeting with some Monks at the Temple I attend. It has a savory and slightly salty taste that leaves a lingering film in my mouth with each sip. I highly recommend Himalaya On Heights for their obvious passion for serving great food and smiles that may leave you feeling satisfied and happy like they do us.

(She was very nice!) I had the chicken momos and pani puri. Both came in portions of 8 pieces and we're very delicious. The lunch specials look good, so I'll try to come back for that next time. At the end, we were offered this fennel seed mix, which is like a palate cleanser and helps reduce bloat, so that was super fun.

Especially with the dipping sauce, which I had thought was strange at first, but a great compliment to the flavors of the momo. My mom had the lunch special, and let me just say... it came with the works. A full meal, sure to satisfy. I don't exactly remember what she had, as it was the first time being here. But it's definitely worth the price. The place, is rather small, but adequate. Kind of gives you that eastern Asian vibe, especially since it's Nepalese cuisine. The girl who served us was quite humble, friendly and attentive. I highly recommend coming here if you're in the mood for something tasty and relatively inexpensive. The flavors are definitely way better than the price offered. I hope and wish this place will remain in business for awhile, as my mother and I were extremely satisfied with everything of this place.

I was so happy to hear that they opened another restaurant in Glen Cove! Plenty of street parking is available, and they even have a shared parking lot in back of the restaurant! I parked in the back, and entered the restaurant via the backdoor! Note that there are stairs at the back entrance, so if you can't do stairs, it's best to park in front of the restaurant. This Glen Cove locations is lovely; beautiful murals and great vibes. I was shocked and sad to see it so empty on a Saturday evening! I hope more people give this place a chance because the food and service is great! This was our Shared Menu (plenty for 2ppl, and we had leftovers): -- Water Buffalo Momos w.Chili Sauce (8pcs/$18): the Momos were tasty; the meat was very lean. I would skip the Chili sauce next time. I didn't like the sweet and sour taste of the sauce, so next time I'd like to try the steamed Momos with Johl sauce instead. -- Choila Roti "Not a Taco" with Jackfruit (2pcs/$12): Not a Taco but similar to a taco. This was delicious and I'd get this again. We choice the Jackfruit version but they also have a chicken version. -- Masala Wings (Sauteed wet version) (4pcs/$11): I remember really liking the wings when I was at the Ridgewood location but couldn't recall which wings we had. On this visit, we had the wet version which was good but I realized that I like their dry version better. -- Grilled Lamb Chops w.Timur Sauce, Veggies & white rice (2pcs/$25): Surprisingly, this was my least fave dish of the night. I normally love lamb chops but these chops didn't really have a nice seared taste to them. The texture was a little off for me. Also, it was very boney with not much meat. I would try another entree next time. All in all, a good meal! I found the large selection of appetizers more interesting than the entrees, and would have been happy just sharing a bunch of appetizers and small plates. Customer service was welcoming and friendly! It was a pleasure to chat with the owner. Nice addition to the neighborhood!

My husband and I both got tikka masala dishes. He got chicken and I got the shrimp. In hindsight I wish I had tried the Saag just so we could have tasted a different sauce. However, the tikka masala was truly the best we've ever had. And we are always chasing excellent food so we've had our share. The dumplings were great but we would likely opt for a different appetizer as they didn't really blow us away. The service though is really what puts this place over the top. We were in a bit of a time crunch so I'm disappointed we couldn't stay longer and try dessert so we will definitely be back when we can make it down to SoNo again.

For food, I started with the lentil soup and dumpling (momo) combo. The lentil soup was decent, but the momos were a bit disappointing. They lacked the flavor and juiciness I was expecting, and didn't really stand out. I also tried the chicken curry, which was okay--nothing particularly memorable, but not bad either. One thing I noticed is that the menu and flavors felt more similar to Indian cuisine than authentic Nepalese food. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, it didn't quite deliver the distinct experience I was hoping for. Overall, it's a nice place in terms of atmosphere and service, but the food didn't fully impress me.

I let our server know the whole meal would be vegan, and he said no problem. We went with chana masala, baingan bharta, mushroom matar, and aloo gobi. All perfectly spiced! Flavorful without setting your mouth on fire (Chatni gets it). They swapped naan for roti (vegan option) and brought out the food fast. I did ask for the chutney and crackers after the meal came out -- last time they served it first, so now I know to request it upfront. No biggie to me! Everything tasted authentic, you can tell they don't cut corners. The decor has that real Indian charm too; idols, warm colors, the whole vibe. It stayed quiet during lunch which was actually nice. And honestly, lunch for two adults and a kid in Montclair for $23? In this economy?? Wild. The food looked and smelled so good we dove right in before taking photos (no regrets). I'll 100% be back, either with my family or solo when I need a good, comforting meal. Chatni's officially in my Montclair rotation!

For me Memo Workend. Used to come here with my insane ex monster years ago. Food was not very good this time. Doughy cracker crusted lamb samosas and tepid white rice and unpleasant naan on the stale side. chai tea had a chewy film on top of the liquid like some sort of skin. Service was atrocious. Horrible. so bad it was almost a joke. i wanted one of the samosas wrapped for home (God knows why). Mr. Casual comes out and i kid you not: cavalierly tossed a sheet of tinfoil at the samosa. i asked "so i just wrap it myself and stuff it in my pocket?" So he left - not to get a container or a plastic bag as asked (rain) but just went in the back to get me off his non-working back with my horrid demands. place was empty. from time i mistakenly entered to time i gladly left. before that he brought out my coke - or was it? a can that said "Bro" on it. And when he sauntered out much later, post-samosa, i had to ask for a glass. I was supposed to slurp out of a can? after eating one doughy samosa and putting the dirty plate on the other side of the table, i watched as he later came to toss the rice bowl and chicken tikka marsala on the table. Doesn't remove filthy dishes (see pic) and i had to say "whoa hold on! Can i have a plate?" Annoyed, he turned to another of the all other empty tables, snatched a table off that and clatter dropped it on my table. Twenty years ago, that would have escalated to more than this post. So bland food and lousy service. Chianti can't ni seem to get either right for. $52. But at least my crazy ex wasn't there - just her irritating spirit,

I've walked past this place a few times and was intrigued so I decided to give it a try…read more It has a beautiful, well decorated interior and was kept warm and cozy on a snowy day. They provide complimentary popcorn, which is well seasoned and rich with ghee. I was seated in a chair that was very low to the ground. While outfitted with comfy cushions, I was not sure what the proper was to sit on this chair was and I was too embarrassed to ask. My best guess is that it's meant to be a criss cross applesauce type situation, but I had on wet snow boots and didn't particularly want to do that. This isn't a complaint, but just something to consider for anyone with mobility concerns who might be considering visiting. There are some normal style chairs in the front of the restaurant that I'm sure I would have been switched to had I requested as such. Anyway, onto the food. I ordered the "Lahana Ko Faarzi Bhoj" which arrived on a large round platter with a variety of different dishes. I am very new to this type of food, and most of it was completely unfamiliar to me, which was very exciting. The grain at the center of this platter is "chiura," a rice product which has been pounded flat and dried. It has a light and crunchy texture, and pairs well with the thinner, wet curries it was served with as it really soaks up the liquid and expands in size. I've never had this before and it was very interesting to try. The platter comes with two bowls of warm curry, one with black eyed peas and maybe some potato and the other was darker with meat which I preferred. Both were rich and deep in flavor, but the darker one (pictured on the right) was so savory and well balanced- definitely my favorite part of the meal. They both have some heat to them, the kind that builds at the back of the palette throughout the meal, but none of this food was excessively spicy. The main plate has a ring of various cold dishes around the edge, all of which were unfamiliar to me so I can't necessarily identify them. My favorites were the pieces of well seasoned dark meat chicken and the deep fried egg in the center, but it also included some pickled elements, some ground meat and a small skewer, which I found to be quite tough. I really enjoyed trying new, interesting food in such a beautiful space. The servers were kind and there are many other items on the menu that I'm interested to try. I feel lucky to have this place nearby.

This is such a fun spot; don't be deterred by the Irish-pub-resembling exterior, the interior is delightful decorated with Himalayan touches, with bar or table seating. I've happened to come by a few nights when there's live music playing, and the crowd has clearly been there for the performance, but if you want to talk to your tablemates, you might want to come a bit earlier in the evening. I appreciated the creativity and the cuisine-specificity of the cocktails, and the bartenders are super friendly. The food is there as a nice accompaniment to the drinks, but if you're looking for a Himalayan meal experience and no drinks, I'd probably point you elsewhere in the Jackson Heights neighborhood up Broadway. I prefer Faarzi to Kasthamandap or UpTop in Jackson Heights/Elmhurst, but all three can provide similar live music/fun vibes/cocktail experiences.
