My boyfriend and I met here for dinner on a Sunday night. The staff was cleaning up after a huge baby shower. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because the only off thing about my whole experience was the cleanliness. They could've used an extra person sweeping up and cleaning tables but where we were seated was clean and tidy. Service is a little slow but hey, they get the job done. We looked over the menu for a while and decided to try their dinner combo for two. They have a vegetarian option but we went for the meat. It came with chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori, sag paneer, rice, naan and samosas. A great deal for under 40 bucks. We ate and then still had some leftovers to pack up for another meal. The tikka masala was delicious, very flavorful. Their rice is perfect. I had never tried sag paneer but it was great too, huge hunks of cheese swimming in a spinach sauce. The garlic naan was also really good, super tasty. I enjoyed my mango lassi but would probably get it as a dessert next time, it's very rich and takes over a lot of flavors. Ordered via UberEats for pick up for 5:45 on a Tuesday. The lot is pretty cramped but I managed to nab the last spot. I ordered the Dinner for Two (meat samosa, chicken tandoori, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, raita, rice, naan). The meat samosa was good, no complaints there. The chicken tandoori was my fave - the meat was very tender. The chicken tikka on the other hand was kind of dry, even when drowned in the sauce. I really like the saag paneer. It was nice because this isn't something I normally would have ordered, so I got to try something different. The naan was pretty standard. The portions were more than enough for two people. We had enough leftovers for the next day so we ended up making our own naan "pizza", using the sauce as the base and chicken as toppings. I'm still on the fence if I would come back because chicken tikka is my favorite dish and it missed the mark here. But when I went in for pick up, I did see a buffet table (probably from lunch). I've been wanting to try an Indian buffet so that I can try new dishes without committing to a whole meal of it, but it has been hard to find since covid. I ordered 3 dishes via doordash for a pickup- the app had claimed my order was ready, yet upon arriving was told it would take an additional 15 minutes- unfortunate, but the least of the worries as everything else was downhill as well. On the menu: - chili chicken - saag paneer - butter chicken - garlic naan - rice that accompanies the paneer and chicken You can stop right here as I can tell you none of the dishes are worth eating, but some details if interested: The food is SO bland- the chefs should be ashamed. The saag paneer was incredibly thin and watery and lacked salt AND flavor. I didn't know what exactly I was eating. The chili chicken was soggy and mildly sweet, but also lacking flavor!! The butter chicken was OK, perhaps the saving grace of the entire meal if we actually want to call it that, but very heavy on butter/cream flavor and lacking salt or the actual balance of authentic butter chicken. Garlic naan was fine and rice honestly wasn't even pure basmati Indian rice- not sure what was used in it's place. Expensive food that's truly not worth it at all. tl;dr- don't bother. read more

I came here for a late lunch, and I left thoroughly disappointed. I had veg samosas for an app, and they tasted frozen. My main was garlic naan and chicken vindaloo. I'm not sure if they messed up my order, but it looked like some sort of chicken curry. I had asked for medium spice, and vindaloo should really start off at that level, with a rich, red color. Unfortunately my dish was not close to that at all. Garlic naan was okay- probably the best part of the meal. The gulab jamun for dessert was 3 tiny pieces, and they tasted like they came from a can. Also served semi cold when it should have been warm. Prices are low for Indian food, but you definitely get what you pay for here. Service is terribly slow even when it's empty. Decor is outdated, and the cutlery and dishware has stains, cracks and chips. Staff is nice, but they are forgetful. Small parking lot, but there's street parking. Overlooking the fact that in my youth one of my favorite treats was my best friend's mom's homemade Masala Mathia Papad (think a soft-fresh-puffy insanely spicy version of Doritos - long before America got into the 'fiery foods' trend) - a recent visit to Kamal Palace might qualify as my very first time trying (actual) Indian cuisine. As an American with no reference point as to what's 'good' or 'correct' or 'traditional' I can only give you my uneducated-two-cents... the Mrs. was a hard-five-stars. She was blown away from start to finish and how overly seasoned/spiced each component was and everything was bursting with flavor. Myself and the kids liked our meals but weren't as impressed. My eggplant dish was pulverized and had a consistency akin to baby food. Yes, it was darn tasty (mixing in plenty of the basmati rice to give it some 'structure') but just... a bit odd. The samosa had a great crunchy pastry skin, they weren't skimpy on the filling but it didn't really pop, either. And my buddy (whose mom used to make those scorching hot treats decades ago) told me we had to get the garlic naan, which we did, but I won't lie... I preferred the plain one actually. A small humble restaurant, friendly staff. Generous portions. Pricing is more than reasonable. The parking lot is way too small for all the businesses and usually full. Located off of Ridge Road in North Arlington, I had this cozy restaurant with one other patron to ourselves. Parking is available in front of their small private lot shared among other business. My server was Muthu and owner of the restaurant. We exchanged a few words and was very helpful with my order. Complimentary roti flat bread was offered with 2 sides of chutneys (peppers and cilantro with mint). For an appetizer, I went for the Samosa Vegetable consisting of two pieces of a crispy turnover filled with mildly spiced potato & peas. These came out hot and very flavorful. One could eat these without the chutneys. For the main meal, I ordered the Chicken Makhni (Indian butter chicken) - boneless chicken cooked in mild cream sauce with butter and eggs served with basmati rice. The chicken was moist, tasty and delicious mixed with the spices. All in all good size portions, extremely fair prices and to be realistic may wait a few minutes for your meal whether you're dining in or taking out, but it's worth the wait. WTH happened to my precious Kamal. My favorite Indian restaurant in the world?! We had been ordering or eating at Kamal for 9 years or so. I raved about this place to anyone and everyone interested in Indian food. Even after moving away from the Kearny area and being far away, I would stop by to pick up food. Last night my husband drove all the way up (tolls were paid and it used to be worth it) to get food and we were so disappointed :( sorry but this is not Kamal's. This place has to be under new ownership because everything we order tasted different and bland. Every single item was very different. The sauces, the rice, the chicken madras and the chicken daiwala. Even the mango Lasi was different, way too sweet. I even asked for spicy dahiwala and it was not spicy at all. Never wasting my time or money heading up there again. I didn't give it a lower rating because it's not like the food wasn't edible, it was just so blah and so different. Either the change happened recently, or the people reviewing this place recently are trying it for the first time and think the taste is normal. This is heartbreaking, it's the end of an era and now I have to be on the search of the next best thing :( read more

This restaurant was absolutely delicious! I recently moved to the area and still haven't found an Indian restaurant that compares to my old favorite, but this takes the cake! Everything I had was full of flavor...I will definitely be a frequent visitor here. Not to mention everything is VERY reasonably priced. I fed a family of 4 for only $100 and we had plenty of leftovers. My favorite meal was the chicken tikka masala so if you're looking for something to try I would definitely recommend that first.
