This Brick Lane Curry House has fallen off. This used to be my favorite Indian spot but in my latest visit I was pretty disappointed. First they gotta get a handle on the order pick up traffic. It's not a big place I get that but it was freezing the night I came and order pick up was doing well but the door opening constantly made the restaurant not much warmer than outside. They need a vestibule or something because that hurts the experience right there. Next up the appetizer, I believe was Aloo Chaat. It came out prepared well enough but it was cold. That's fine but it should indicate that on the menu or perhaps the waiter can warn us. He did so after the fact and swapped it with my preferred Samosas. Still for me a very avoidable mistake. Next, the wait. We waited, waited and waited some more for our food. The table next to us came in arou D the same time as us and were done and drinking their wine and the food STILL wasn't out. What happened? Lastly. It just wasn't that good. I got the Tikka Masala. It was forgettable. It was tomato-y yeah, but it was missing that creamy consistency and slight kick I like. On top of that it's more expensive here than my usual spot, so what gives?? Just a lot of disappointment all around here and it's unfortunate because again, this was one of my fav.s but something happened. New chefs? New management? I don't know but I hope they get it together.

This place gets a 5 star rating simply for making my buddy Terrence and I fail their Phaal Challenge. We have done one chip challenges, death nuts, reaper pebbles, spiciest chocolate and beef jerky in the world, hottest gummy bear ever, you name it...and the Phaal stopped us dead in our tracks. I will say from what I could taste before my tastebuds were shot, it did taste good. This rating however is solely based on their ability to wreck us with the heat. Also...the Tandoori Chicken (for my girlfriend), mango lassi and naan were quite tasty.

What a gem !!! Great place in a great location, I was recommended by this place by a great friend and they were so correct. The place is cozy but with a great decor, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable but the food was awesome!!!! What a great place to eat, it has everything that you need for a favorite restaurant. You should try it.

Brick Lane is WAY more expensive than other Indian restaurants in the area for the same quality of food and service. Price aside, I enjoyed my meal here. I ordered the Samosa Chaat appetizer ($9 - samosas topped with yogurt, tamarind and mint sauce), Chicken Tikka Masala ($20 - tomato and cream sauce flavored with fenugreek - it's not spicy), and the Mango Lassi ($5 - Indian mango milkshake) to drink. Samosa Chaat was just the right amount of spicy, very flavorful. The Tikka Masala was incredibly rich and creamy, and it was served with a generous side of basmati rice. The Mango Lassi tasted good, but it wasn't served cold at all. I'm not sure if they make it fresh but don't refrigerate the ingredients or if they made a batch in the blender earlier and it's just been sitting there. My waiter was friendly and attentive, and service was very quick. Overall, food quality is great, but is it worth the high prices? Not really.

The highlight was the saffron butter crab - that umami flavor was insane. The honey lotus was crispy and packed with flavor. The Goan fish curry was satisfying and not spicy at all which we both appreciated. I also enjoyed the 3 complimentary sauces on the table - none of them were too spicy. I highly recommend this place! The space itself is on the smaller side, but it is intimate, warm, and always buzzing. The staff is incredibly attentive and welcoming, making you feel taken care of from the moment you enter. Parking is street based, but there's a garage right across, and honestly, the area is very walkable so it's not a hassle to find street parking. They kick things off with a complimentary appetizer (crispy chips with dipping sauce); I ate before the phone -oops! The mango lassi is not your typical thick, yogurt heavy version, and the one here is lighter, smoother, almost like a refreshing mango smoothie - also not pictured, big oops! Why I LOVE the place after the first visit: the curries (ordered the paneer and chickpea)!! Unlike many Indian restaurants where dishes can feel overly heavy or leave you feeling weighed down, the curries here are light yet incredibly aromatic and full of flavor. You get all the richness of the ingredients and spices without that post meal sluggishness. Rice comes complimentary with the curry (always a win), and the naan is a must order. Both the garlic and butter naan were packed with flavor-- went very well with the curries! Note: It does lean a bit on the pricier side, but the quality, freshness, and dining experience make it worth it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to again to try other things on the menu.

The ambiance was nice--warm and inviting--and while the service was okay, the food truly stole the show. This is the kind of place you return to for the flavors alone, and we'd happily go back again just for the meal.

The place was very clean on the inside although if you have read my reviews you know that I usually comment on the bathrooms however I did not get the chance to check out the bathroom this time lol. The food was delicious and you can also change the spice levels on the food based on how you like it. There chettinaad chicken cutlets were delicious and I enjoyed the Pulav as well. I think for the amount of food that you get the prices a little bit on the pricier side and if you are expecting to be full from here that will not happen unless you're ordering a bunch of bread. Presentation was also great so I am giving this place a four star.

I let our server know the whole meal would be vegan, and he said no problem. We went with chana masala, baingan bharta, mushroom matar, and aloo gobi. All perfectly spiced! Flavorful without setting your mouth on fire (Chatni gets it). They swapped naan for roti (vegan option) and brought out the food fast. I did ask for the chutney and crackers after the meal came out -- last time they served it first, so now I know to request it upfront. No biggie to me! Everything tasted authentic, you can tell they don't cut corners. The decor has that real Indian charm too; idols, warm colors, the whole vibe. It stayed quiet during lunch which was actually nice. And honestly, lunch for two adults and a kid in Montclair for $23? In this economy?? Wild. The food looked and smelled so good we dove right in before taking photos (no regrets). I'll 100% be back, either with my family or solo when I need a good, comforting meal. Chatni's officially in my Montclair rotation!

For me Memo Workend. Used to come here with my insane ex monster years ago. Food was not very good this time. Doughy cracker crusted lamb samosas and tepid white rice and unpleasant naan on the stale side. chai tea had a chewy film on top of the liquid like some sort of skin. Service was atrocious. Horrible. so bad it was almost a joke. i wanted one of the samosas wrapped for home (God knows why). Mr. Casual comes out and i kid you not: cavalierly tossed a sheet of tinfoil at the samosa. i asked "so i just wrap it myself and stuff it in my pocket?" So he left - not to get a container or a plastic bag as asked (rain) but just went in the back to get me off his non-working back with my horrid demands. place was empty. from time i mistakenly entered to time i gladly left. before that he brought out my coke - or was it? a can that said "Bro" on it. And when he sauntered out much later, post-samosa, i had to ask for a glass. I was supposed to slurp out of a can? after eating one doughy samosa and putting the dirty plate on the other side of the table, i watched as he later came to toss the rice bowl and chicken tikka marsala on the table. Doesn't remove filthy dishes (see pic) and i had to say "whoa hold on! Can i have a plate?" Annoyed, he turned to another of the all other empty tables, snatched a table off that and clatter dropped it on my table. Twenty years ago, that would have escalated to more than this post. So bland food and lousy service. Chianti can't ni seem to get either right for. $52. But at least my crazy ex wasn't there - just her irritating spirit,

The chicken lollipop appetizer arrived looking the part - hot, crispy, and slightly zesty - but unfortunately didn't deliver on its visual promise. The dough was too thick and the meat rather rubbery, so the execution wasn't up to par. The mains, however, were redeeming. The gravy in the chicken tikka masala was delectable, and we enjoyed this as well as the kholapuri (which we asked for "extra spicy" but was just medium spicy to me - I'm sure others would disagree lol). My child loved his butter chicken. Both dishes featured substantial chunks of chicken. The saag paneer deserves to be mentioned for having a rough-chopped texture that I prefer, looking like actual spinach and not the zealously over-puréed green smoothie so many Indian restaurants inexplicably trot out. A touch over-salted, but otherwise tasty, and with an abundance of paneer. The lassi and garlic naan were both great. Portions are generous, and it's BYOB. Should you forget to bring something inebriating, a liquor shop is conveniently located just a couple of doors down. Owner/manager Austin is so welcoming and personable, earning this place extra hospitality points. Since Yemeni coffee and tea options aren't common for everyone, they take the time to explain the menu and answer questions, which I really appreciated. However, the Adeni Chai was the only saving grace of the visit. It was flavorful and well made, but the coffee was a massive disappointment. I tried the Jubani after the staff described it as a delicious light-roasted coffee packed with caffeine, but in reality, it tasted like bland cardamom water with absolutely no coffee flavor or body. It felt like I was just drinking hot spiced water. The atmosphere was also a major issue as there was no seating available whatsoever. The crowd was mostly of Middle Eastern descent and many were incredibly rude; people will bump right into you and not say a word. Even worse was the way some customers spoke to the workers, it was absolutely deplorable. Honestly, who raised you? It was uncomfortable to witness. The dessert selection was even worse. Most of what we ordered felt stale and old. The only thing worth eating was the bubble dessert with cheese because they actually toast it. We tried both the pistachio milk cake and the pistachio dream cake, and neither was impressive. The khattafi in the pistachio dream was the biggest letdown; it was so stale and bland I can't believe they actually put it out to sell when it was clearly weeks if not months old. The basboosa was also a disappointment, as it was a very small square of semolina cake for almost $5.
