Replaced the plain naan for the garlic (worth the additional cost!). It comes with a veggie of the day (creamed broccoli & potatoes) and lentils! Wasn't a fan of the included dessert- rice pudding (too creamy for me) but everything else was delicious! Cute space inside. Plenty of metered spots around the restaurant. I think the food here would cater to those unfamiliar with Indian food. I didnt like how the tikka masala was extremely tomatoey and sugary. The nan flour seemed bad and it wasnt soft at all. I think they forgot to update their prices on their online menu too bc the dishes were like a couple bucks extra each which is understandable with inflation. Tried for the first time. We are not Indian food expert but we really enjoyed the take out. Everything we had was so flavorful and spiced so nicely. The portion was good too. My girlfriend was feeling daring one night (she never really has Indian food and doesn't generally enjoy spicy things) so we decided to eat some Indian food, of which I am a huge fan of. We decided on Brick Lane. I was lucky enough to try brick lane curry house at their now closed location in ridgewood and I was pleasantly surprised to find out they were also in Montclair. It had been ages since I had gone to eat there, so trying the Montclair location was like trying the restaurant for the first time again. We ordered the Chana masala dish and the dal mahkni with a side of naan. The food was absolutely delicious! The Chana masala was a bit spicy for my girlfriend, so if you are someone who isn't into spicy things, make sure you let them know beforehand as they do add a bit of a kick in their dishes. Overcame the meh reviews and decided to order in. Had 3 curry dishes and 3 naans - all were delicious. The moilee with shrimp was mild but flavorful. The vegetarian korma was nutty and sweet - that was our favorite. The madras with chicken had fantastic heat but not over the top. 4 of 5 stars only because pricing of each dish is definitely a few dollars higher than your usual curry spot and the chicken in the madras was just a touch dry. Came for lunch with the boyfriend. We were blown away at how amazing the food was! We came at lunch time and got the lunch special which includes a curry, rice, naan and desert. For 12 bucks we were both stuffed! I got the chicken tikka masala which was delicious and had the right amount of heat for me. Spicy with some burn but not sweating my butt off. The rice is your typical basmati rice. The naan is thin and crispy, perfect for picking up all the sauce and rice and chicken. The boy got the lamb Goan and holy coconut batman! Delicious and vinegary and coconut-y. The lamb was tender and delicious. They also served a side dish of green beans and potatoes along the lines of a korma taste, and a side of peeli daal. For dessert they gave us rice pudding. Cinnamon, sweet milk and cardamom dominated the pudding and it was AMAZING. To go box a must. The atmosphere is casually hip and the server prompt but not overbearing and very nice. Priced at 11.99 for the lunch special, I'll happily be coming back. Top notch food. read more

Had dinner here last night with a couple of friends. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the vindaloo with white rice and garlic naan. The food was okay, not impressed. Not spicy at all which was maybe a good thing as I was worried it would be too spicy for my liking. I've had much better Indian food before, so maybe my expectations were higher, especially since the reviews were mostly good for this restaurant. I would have rated this place a solid 4 stars, but the reason why I'm dropping two is because the restaurant lacked cleanliness. The bathroom's garbage can was over piling with toilet paper and paper towels were scattered all over the floor. Additionally, as I was eating I noticed a roach crawling on the wall besides our table. I immediately felt disgusted, especially since we had already finished our dinner. My friends and I all froze and stared at it as it made its way to the table behind us. Then, before I could even say anything, one of the girls sitting at the table behind us grabbed their cloth napkin and squashed it. All I gotta say is gross.... I definitely won't be returning to a restaurant where roaches are crawling in the dining room. If one roach was spotted next to the wall of our table, just imagine how many of them are in the back where the food is being prepared. As far as prices, the food was reasonably priced. Each such is about $20 and it comes with rice. Naan is an extra $5 for three pieces. Samosas are $4.50 a piece, which we also tried but I did not like. They serve two sauces on the table, one tamarind, one mint. The mint one was really good, the tamarind I found it to be a bit too sweet for my taste but not bad though. Apparently under new management - food so-so, service slow. took 30 minutes to get our food; meanwhile 3 different customers came in to pick-up phone orders - all had to wait at least 10 minutes. Ambiance not good - LOUD music for a weekend lunch. Lunch special is no longer anything special: portions are smaller; no longer comes with lentils and a vegetable - now, 2 bites of iceberg lettuce. Our group of four came later in the evening on a Saturday night and we were seated right away. The food was brought out pretty quickly which was good because we were all starving. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, chicken madras, and meat sizzler. My favorite was definitely the chicken tikka - it wasn't too spicy with a hint of sweetness and the chicken was tender. The madras was good as well but didn't love it. The pieces of chicken were also on the bigger side for my liking. The meat sizzler was a let down - we mainly wanted it for the lamb chops but we only got one piece the size of my palm. The chicken was fine - nothing really outstanding so I would skip over the sizzler. Also, big plus that it's BYOB! It took a damn winter storm to finally get me in to this place. I always had it in the back of my mind to try Brick Lane, but for one reason or another it never seemed to materialize. But because every Indian restaurant seemed to be closed after winter storm Stella, my friend and I decided that this would be a nice place to keep up the tradition of going out after a blast of old-man winter. It's just our thing! Walking in to the restaurant we were the only two people dining for the evening. That wasn't a surprise of course and it made it even more intimate and dare I say romantic. The atmosphere, with its warm glow and elegant décor, is surely a hit for individuals that want a smaller, laid back destination to take their special someone. The food of course is why people keep coming back and I have to say that Brick Lane does not disappoint. My friend and I ordered an appetizer of vegetable pakoras--a mixed bag of vegetables fried with chickpea batter. The fritters were fried perfectly and more importantly was not so greasy that it would slip off your fingers like in other restaurants. For entrée we shared the vegetable korma and matar paneer with the quintessential garlic naan to soak up all that delicious sauce. The korma curry, with its delicate balance of almond gravy and saffron, was the perfect curry to warm the body and soul on such a wintery evening. The matar paneer lived up to my expectations with its creamy tomato and onion sauce. The evening couldn't have gone any better. I'm glad that my friend and I went out to keep the tradition alive. Went for Daily Lunch Special Food - 5/5. The madras sauce is strong and delicious. It goes really well with the prawns and all the other food items. Although described as "medium to hot", it really isn't that spicy so those with low spice tolerance shouldn't shy away from it. The naan and rice were fluffy, the prawn had a good bite and the tofu was solid. Rice pudding gave a sweet and cool finish. Service - 2/5. The waiter was constantly in the back kitchen helping with prep work which is not a bad thing but he seemed really distracted. He never came around and I had to go to the back to ask for my check. The dessert section of the lunch special was forgotten until mentioned. The restaurant seems to not have any form of air conditioning or it was purposely left off. Makes you feel a bit less valued when that happens to you. Value - 4/5. The lunch special gives a large variety for $12 and the food tastes really good. Atmosphere: Tiny, they take reservations though. I've had to wait a few minutes for a table of about 7 during Sunday lunch but also was seated right away for a table of 3 around Sunday dinner. Food: tried the lasuni gobi app ($10) which is fried cauliflower drenched in citrusy sauce. Resembles Chinese cuisine. It was kind of cold and not as crispy as other gobi dishes I've tried at other Indian restaurants. I will commend them on their on point malai kofta and chicken korma. The korma is creamy and the malai kofta dumplings are soft and bursting with flavor. Their naan here is pretty pricy ($5) but they do give complimentary rice at dinner. I came here with my bf last night for our date night at around 6:30 pm. It was both our first time at this establishment and possibly the worst we've encountered. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt especially when you can clearly see that the place was busy, but we had the most awful service. We were seated next to a table where we ordered at the exact same time. They received their food after 30-40 minutes and once they started grabbing containers after 60 min and we didn't even receive a single dish yet we called over the waitress. She came over and was shocked when we told her that we didn't have anything on our table and had waited a little over an hour, but she didn't even apologize at all. At this point we both agreed that it was unacceptable. Not once did a single person come over at our table and ask how we were doing or even reassure us that the food will come. The only thing was they kept refilling our water and really didn't acknowledge the lack of food. We were incredibly disappointed and walked out hungry. This was also both our first time ever walking out of a place. Even when my bf went up to them and said we were just going to leave, they didn't even apologize or seem remorseful. The service is excellent. The portions are generous. The vindaloo and the chicken and vegetarian tikka are amazing. I usually go with a friend who is a vegetarian. They have a wide range of vegetarian options, so we both have plenty of food to share. Best of all, if you like your food spicy, try their legendary "phaal." My husband and I came here for dinner for my birthday on Tuesday. It was surprisingly busy considering that it was early in the week and the first snowy night of winter. I had the meat sizzler which was really very tasty. The lamb was particularly good, as was the chicken. All of the meat was tender and the portions were generous. I was surprised by some of the prior reviews that commented on the small portions. My husband had the Imli Ki Champe (lamb chops), and we shared an order of the yellow lentils which were creamy and delicious. We also had an order of the rosemary naan. They had other interesting choices as well such as basil, which I would like to try on my next visit. My husband also had a mango lassi, which was one of the better ones he ever had. Service was pretty good. They were very attentive to my food allergies, which is particularly challenging with Indian food but they dutifully ensured that we were able to have an event free evening. My only complaint is that after 20 minutes, we had to ask for our beverages again. Perhaps they thought we wanted them with our meal? Otherwise, service was attentive and we really enjoyed the food. No accompanying sauces. Second gripe: vindaloo chicken looked watery but the sauce was its typical pungent-acidic red color. Not sure why potatoes were added to the curry - other than to boost profit. "Lamb" Biriani was no such thing - rather tough pieces of goat or mutton. Flavor of the rice was good. I feel inclined to review this place since I'm here basically every other week. This is definitely my favorite Indian restaurant in Jersey, and I've been to quite a few. The vindaloo is the curry to get if you crave actual spice, and is the one I most often get - Favorite medium spiced curry is the jalfrezi, which comes with a ton of veggies - Favorite mild curry is the moilee. A perfect contrast to the vindaloo and pairs wonderfully with seafood - Tandoori catch of the day: A whole steamed fish, usually red snapper, that is served with a great spicy sauce and a ton of vegetables. When it comes out everything is still extremely hot and steaming. Just awesome - The lunch special is not buffet style, but I actually like it more because of that. Still a huge portion of food (rice, naan, choice of curry w/ choice of protein, two side veggies, and rice pudding) and at a great price of $10 - The food here is more expensive than your typical Indian restaurant: expect to pay around $30 per person on food alone. But it's oh so worth it. - Service is generally awesome, unless they're extremely busy. I ordered lunch. 12.00 for lunch is a bit much, but I was in the neighborhood and craving Indian, so I ordered the takeout box lunch. I ordered chicken tikka masala, and it said it would come with a vegetable, rice, naan and dessert. OK, sounds like a good deal but the plate was mostly rice. There were two large chicken chunks in the sauce and that was it. The vegetable, whatever it is, is inedible and tastes of onions. What struck me first was that everything was extremely salty, in an "I am craving water" way. I am used to Indian food standing on the merit of its spices, not an msg rush. I think there are better options in the area. I gave this place a go but I'm really not impressed. We are avid curry eaters (usually Caribbean-Trinidadian), but when he got word from someone (a self-proclaimed foodie) on his university's Alumni Club to come to Brick Lane Curry for lunch we were there the first chance we got! Everything was SO delicious! Samosas were pretty big, we split each between two people and the chutneys they came with them were perfect. The lamb saag was flavorful with decent chunks of lamb in it. The naan was really tasty, especially a fan of the garlic naan. Chicken biryani was a quality rice dish with the perfect amount of nuts/raisins/meat/spices distributed through it and came with a delicious yogurt sauce. The lamb chops were also incredibly tasty, but quite expensive for only 4 pieces. I really liked the sauce that came with it and kept having that with my naan. Price and service was decent. Got quality Indian food at a reasonable price and enough food for some leftovers. Definitely recommended if you want a curry and naan fix. read more
