    Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan
    Sucheta C.

Recently visited Tandoori Chef II If you're on the prowl for the scrumptious Indian flavors, in Maplewood New Jersey..and willing to take the heat and roll with the punches, it could be a food destination to remember. Serving up classic Indian dishes like butter chicken , Keema Samosa, Goat Biryani. They hones in on Indian cuisine and executes it deliciously. We tried Keema samosa Vegetarian snack platter ( Samosa , Paneer pakora, Onion Bhajji ) Chicken Tikka Butter Chicken Chilli garlic naan Dal makhani Goat Biryani served with raita For those visiting Maplewood New Jersey , this restaurant is a fantastic option for straightforward Indian food that feeds the soul.

By far the best Indian restaurant in the area. The food is super flavorful and the service is excellent! People are friendly and very accommodating. A must try is chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. You should also try the house made samosas for sure. Definitely try the dine in. Tip- try chilli chicken in indo chinese style. Really tasty.

I won a give away for this restaurant and was so happy to use my gift certificate to try this food. I called in my order of the fish saag. When I arrived there was no parking so I parked illegally for a second. I ran into a cute restaurant and gave the nice man my name. My food was ready and I left. When I got home I dug in and the meal was very good and had a little spice to it. I enjoyed all of it. All in all I had a good experience and appreciate it all.

The food here is so flavorful and delicious, the location is so warm and cozy, and the people are so kind. They are great with catering to your dietary needs if you are vegan, gluten free, or have certain allergies. Absolutely perfect service. My new go to restaurant for sure. 10 out of 10, highly recommend!

Went here with a few friends, place was pretty quiet inside (probably due to the crazy virus stuff), but they must have had 10 take-outs while we were there. Setting: -Welcoming inside -Nice area in the rear for a large party to have a more private experience Food: -Paneer Pakora: Perfectly fried and man do they give you more than your monies worth! -Coconut & Nut Naan: Wow! THE best naan that I've ever had! I would come back just for this! Definitely going to be a staple every time that I come back -Keema Samosa: Very nicely cooked and seasoned, but they didn't impress me the way the other apps did -Samosa Chaat: Amazing! Very bold and delicious flavors that hit on very note. -Mango Curry: Very sweet and little to no heat. Good for those who like sweet dishes -Ginger Tikka: Very good flavor but a little dry for my liking -Vindaloo: The star of our dinner. Absolutely delicious with a good amount of heat (they will give you a little more if you request it as I did) Finished very last bite. Service: -Staff was super attentive and answered very question we had I will definitely be going back!

Tandoori Chef was a nice little spot in the downtown Maplewood area. The restaurant itself is a bit small, maybe around 4-5 booths. We ordered the keema samosa and the kale papdi chaate for appetizers. Both were really good. The samosas we're not really dressed in anyway, just three samosas on a plate, but they were good nonetheless. I really liked the kale papdi chaate which was a kale crisp dish. It had many flavors packed in one. Our main courses were the mango curry with lamb and the Rogan Josh with goat. Both were very good. Pair that with your go to Indian bread and I'd say it's a darn good meal. Definitely worth a stop.

Butter chicken and saag paneer over rice

Kudos to the Tandoori Chef for delicious food and an efficient & safe takeout procedure! I usually purchase a few orders of curries, then portion/freeze into individual servings so that I always have Indian food available for a quick, easy and filling meal. Here in the picture is Tandoori Chef's excellent butter chicken and saag (spinach) paneer. [Note: the glass container is my own, but the restaurant does package the curries and rice separately in reusable plastic containers.] Both curries are flavorful and savory, and not greasy at all (i.e., you don't see an oil slick on top of their curries, unlike many other Indian takeout restaurants especially after reheating). I purchase Indian-style bread (paratha or naan) at the frozen section of the local Asian grocery store and heat up to serve alongside the curries. I haven't had much luck reheating breads from local restaurants (it always seem chewy and soggy by the time it gets home), so I prefer to heat my own. Overall, highly recommend Tandoori Chef's food; it is super comforting on a cold day.

Flavor bomb burrata was amazing - on top of a naan, tomatoes and green garlic chimichurri with a fresh burrata and what was like a very sweet spicy honey on top - delicious. Sadly they were out of the truffle chicken masala. We opted for the butter chicken - also delicious and rich. Palak paneer - always nice to see the spinach version. Very good. Both were great with the garlic and butter naans... sopped up with the naan or rice, delicious. The 'Rarha' Lamb Chops were ok, overcooked until the bone crumbled so a bit hard to pick up, cutting it was a bit tough, and the mustard-tumeric potatoes were very good but heavy. BYOB. Menu completely online and somewhat hard to see -- bring a big phone. Street or muni lot parking. Servers were pleasant but often busy cleaning up - a bit of dropping things all night - customers knocked over their lights, dishes fell, glasses broke - I felt like it was a Jewish wedding with all the wares falling on the floor mid-way through dinner. Portions are solid and they also gave to-go bags for the leftover naan and boxes for the leftover dishes.

We stopped by Four Monkeys on a busy Friday night, and the place was packed, always a promising sign. Even with the crowd, parking wasn't an issue at all; Lot 3 is right nearby and there's plenty of street parking, which made getting in and out painless. Inside, the restaurant is on the smaller side, but they've managed to fit in a surprising number of tables without making it feel cramped. The lighting is dim and moody in a way that works well for the space, and the subtle monkey-themed decor is genuinely charming- playful but tasteful. Menus are all via QR code, and even the cutlery feels upgraded and fancy, adding a nice touch. Service was a highlight. The staff is friendly, helpful, and refreshingly honest as they guided us through the menu, prevented us from over-ordering, and offered thoughtful recommendations. For water, they give you options: tap, sparkling, or still. What we ordered: * Pili Mirch Paneer Tikka (appetizer) * Bandar Butter Chicken * Homestyle Bhuna Chicken * Garlic Naan (pro tip: the naans are huge, one is easily enough for two people) The paneer app was really solid, think paneer tikka with a definite kick, paired with some tasty dipping sauce, chutney, and even grilled pineapple. A fun combo and definitely one of the stronger dishes. The mains, though, both the butter chicken and homestyle bhuna chicken, leaned very much on the milder side. The sauces were more liquidy than expected, and they felt geared toward diners who prefer Indian food without the heat. With slightly less gravy and a bit more spice, both dishes could've been standouts. The garlic naan was fine, though more firm than the soft, melt-in-your-mouth style I usually prefer. Overall, I'd say Four Monkeys is a good try and a nice addition to Summit, but probably not my go-to Indian spot for the food alone. That said, the ambiance is great, the staff is wonderful, and it's worth a visit, especially if you're into milder Indian flavors or want a cozy, lively night out.

Sonny takes cares of every single guest from seating, to small chats, to recommending what's good. My family had a great time here. This restaurant has BYOB. Hours later, Sonny had dug out my private cell # and texted and left vm's repeatedly for two days. Badgered, I removed the review. Since, I've seen only a few negative reviews on here for Sonny's. Strangely those few negative reviews were followed by Sonny's posted Yelp notes where Sonny did almost certainly what he did to me below: pretended in his post he tried to "make good" but actually did no such thing. Below see my experience. He posted he refunded me the outlandish $78 for a single person's dinner. Never did. Now getting Better Business Bureau involved. Let me show you how he operates. Cut to 4/11/26. Figured I'd give him a second chance after the February debacle. My 2nd Yelp review after 4/11/26 was actually incredibly positive albeit dancing around disturbing details. I did not describe what I saw that left me disturbed. The review didn't ask for a refund at all. He never called or text afterwards as he claimed he did in his posted note and I had not asked. Regardless, for some reason he posted this: SUNIL B. - "Business Owner" I was trying to extend the courtesy of apologizing you (sic). That's why I texted and called. A full refund has been sent to you. I don't need to invade anyone's privacy. Never asked for refund of his outrageous single person charge of $65.78 on 4/11. He neither called nor texted re 4/11 review. All fabricated. But where the Better Business Bureau is going to get involved is here: on 4/16 - five days after I ate there, after he posted he refunded me, Sonny charged an unauthorized HIGHER charge on my card for $77.78. That's no refund - that's fraud. Figured I wouldn't catch it. Unauthorized overcharges without notice to consumers violate the Consumer Fraud Act. Serious fines. Last and most importantly: the issue I was too civil in my 4/11 review to reveal was this: he repeatedly screamed at his staff. I saw it. I heard it. I put up with it. I saw his staff intimidated. All the patrons cringed. I despise abuse. We all do. Apparently all Sundil's pretend gracious host act is a farce. And I'm certain his screaming wasn't a one off. Abusive bullying behavior is rarely an isolated outburst. And you could see it in his staff: unsmiling, nervous, gun-shy. For that reason alone I'll never return. As for the fraudulent overcharge? Don't worry, dear reader. He's either going to repay me or others will force him to. And if you still improvidently decide to go here, do yourself a favor: check your card for weeks after. Avoid this place. This review is what Yelp is for: unmasking these kinds of abhorrent business practices.

Parking is always a challenge when heading to any restaurant in downtown, but since it was a weekday, we found a spot easily. The entrance and ambience are fabulous -- with Buddha statues placed at the entry and throughout the restaurant, and beautiful hanging red/lavender tree leaves adding a lot of charm Coming to food, as we were party of 7, we ordered * Kale Pakora * Bhindi Churi Muri: crispy, veryt thin slices of ladyfinger- good 4/5 * Lasooni gobhi *Tandoori Medley: mixed platter. Honestly, not sure why they'd include large chicken pieces here; felt like something borrowed from a buffet platter. The only items I liked were the mutton seekh kebab and prawns. *Gobhi Manchurian: too much sauce - 3/5 * Jhinga Masala: tomato-based gravy with prawns, nothing extraordinary, 3/5 * Bhuna Gost : nope, could not find the gravy... 2.5/5 * Lamb Biryani: average and disappointing, 2.5/5 * Eggplant Bharta * Gobhi Paratha, Tandoori Roti, Garlic Naan, Laccha Paratha * Jaljeera, Lassi, Lime soda To be honest, food was pretty average. Bharta and Bhuna Gosht definitely could've been better. It felt very hit or miss--none of the dishes really stood out Also, Portion was way less then what other restaurant serves!
