Indian cuisine is among our favorites, and our first visit to Tandoori Chef 2 did not disappoint. In fact, it blew us away. Their Korma Chicken might just be the best I've ever had, and having dined at 3 Indian restaurants that have earned Michelin stars (two in NYC, one in London), that's saying something. It not just creamy, it has just the right kick of spicy to elevate it above others I've had. My wife ordered Baingan Bharta, which she raved was extremely fresh with just the right mix of spices. Atmosphere is very nice, service is prompt and friendly. Not many tables, so I guess we were lucky to get right in. We live about 40 minutes east, close to Manhattan, but we're already talking about returning again soon... It's that good! read more

Ordered to-go. The chicken tikka was regrettably dry with some random shredded cabbage over it, and the kadhai paneer was mild and somewhat tasteless, a lot onions and some pepper. Overall had better spiced and more juicy chicken and paneer. read more

This restaurant does not take reservations, so when my friend and I walked in on a Saturday night, we had to wait about ten minutes, which wasn't too bad. We ordered the vegetable samosas, the chicken biryani, and the garlic naan. Everything was so delicious (and had a good amount of heat), and our server was attentive, as well. The only thing I would change is the texture of the chicken-- it tasted a little dry. But overall, great food, and I would come here again. read more

Sad to hear Joe I believe is returning to Mumbai after January 26, 2025. Had many pleasant evenings here. He was the main guy. They only have four large booths but always seated me when I arrived alone. And they would have tonight of January 10 but they were full. A customer for over a decade, I asked if the new whoever he was could call my cell when a spot opened up. Three times I asked him to repeat what he said and on the last attempt, I think he told me to come back in an hour. Yes. That's what he did with a blank expression. I got the message. There aren't reservations here. Clearly he figured he could get a larger party in and I could just walk around in the subzero temperatures with my solo wallet until it was late. Ah well. By far the best Indian restaurant in the area. The food is super flavorful and the service is excellent! People are friendly and very accommodating. A must try is chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. You should also try the house made samosas for sure. Definitely try the dine in. Tip- try chilli chicken in indo chinese style. I won a give away for this restaurant and was so happy to use my gift certificate to try this food. I called in my order of the fish saag. When I arrived there was no parking so I parked illegally for a second. I ran into a cute restaurant and gave the nice man my name. My food was ready and I left. When I got home I dug in and the meal was very good and had a little spice to it. I enjoyed all of it. All in all I had a good experience and appreciate it all. read more

THE best naan that I've ever had! I would come back just for this! Tandoori Chef was a nice little spot in the downtown Maplewood area. The restaurant itself is a bit small, maybe around 4-5 booths. We ordered the keema samosa and the kale papdi chaate for appetizers. Both were really good. The samosas we're not really dressed in anyway, just three samosas on a plate, but they were good nonetheless. I really liked the kale papdi chaate which was a kale crisp dish. It had many flavors packed in one. Our main courses were the mango curry with lamb and the Rogan Josh with goat. Both were very good. Pair that with your go to Indian bread and I'd say it's a darn good meal. Definitely worth a stop. read more

Kudos to the Tandoori Chef for delicious food and an efficient & safe takeout procedure! I usually purchase a few orders of curries, then portion/freeze into individual servings so that I always have Indian food available for a quick, easy and filling meal. Here in the picture is Tandoori Chef's excellent butter chicken and saag (spinach) paneer. [Note: the glass container is my own, but the restaurant does package the curries and rice separately in reusable plastic containers.] Both curries are flavorful and savory, and not greasy at all (i.e., you don't see an oil slick on top of their curries, unlike many other Indian takeout restaurants especially after reheating). I purchase Indian-style bread (paratha or naan) at the frozen section of the local Asian grocery store and heat up to serve alongside the curries. I haven't had much luck reheating breads from local restaurants (it always seem chewy and soggy by the time it gets home), so I prefer to heat my own. Overall, highly recommend Tandoori Chef's food; it is super comforting on a cold day. read more

I normally don't rip into businesses but I had such a terrible experience last night and the owner was so unapologetic that I just don't care.... Overpriced - it was $136 for 1 appetizer, 3 main courses, naan and rice. That's crazy for food as unimaginative as the restaurant's name. Terrible service / cold food - delivery guy left the food outside in freezing temps and didn't ring the doorbell. Missing food - they left out a main course. We waited an hour for the food and my wife ended up with bread and cheese for dinner. Mediocre food - the chicken tikka we did receive was dry, the daal bland. Unsanitary - they don't seal the food bag but give it to drivers from a service. Rude - Didn't even apologize. Literally blamed me for the food sitting outside, then blamed the delivery service HE chose, then didn't even apologize for the missing dish. He asked me to come in today to get my order. WTF??? It used to be my go to place but the wonderful gentleman who used to run it apparently handed it over to some numbskull who will destroy it in no time. read more

Still our regular go-to Indian place even after they moved location down the street. The food quality is still predictably good although the portions and amount of meat in curries have reduced a bit over time. With recent inflation that probably explains it as well as the slight price increases. As for the quality of the food it's always very good. The food is great and service is friendly. Unfortunately, we don't go in often just because of the glaring lights. It even looks uncomfortable from the street. This place was a nice find! There was only one table when we got there, which actually made me a bit nervous seeing as how it was dinnertime on a Friday night. However, it seems as though the restaurant gets a lot of takeout orders - there were a lot of people coming in and out during the time we were there. The food was great! My boyfriend, friend, and I each got an appetizer and entree and shared everything. For appetizers we got: samosa chat (golden-brown turnovers topped with chickpeas, yogurt, and onions served with tamarind and coriander chutney), paneer pakora (Golden-brown fritters of homemade cheese layered with fresh mint chutney), and keema samosa (crispy golden turnovers stuffed with minced lamb). The samosa chat was incredible! I've had it before at another restaurant, but this version had some crunchy type of thing on top that gave it a really nice texture! The paneer pakora was really well spiced, the serving size was big - even with three of us we couldn't finish it. The keema samosa was delicious and hearty - it comes in a serving of three. The two of them also got the peshawari naan to share - white bread stuffed with coconut, raisins, and nuts. I'm telling you, they didn't stop talking about it the entire night! They said it was their favorite thing they ordered and they would go back to the restaurant specifically for that. For dinner we got: Ginger Chicken Tikka, Vindaloo, and Mango Curry. A side of rice came alongside, and it was cooked to perfection. The Ginger Chicken Tikka left just a little to be desired. It didn't taste too much of ginger, but I mixed it with some of the sauces from other dishes. The Mango Curry was good, especially if you like sweet. For me, it was a little bit too much sweet with nothing to offset it - but my friend who ordered it really enjoyed it. The Vindaloo was probably my favorite. My boyfriend ordered it and specifically asked for it to be a bit spicier than normal - which is nice that they allow a little bit of tweaking! If you check in through Yelp you also get an offer for a free Mango Lassi, which was like a yogurt smoothie. All in all, it was really good! My favorite was the appetizers. I came here last weekend with a few family members and by far this was the best Indian Food I've had in a while! I swear to you I've never had butter chicken as tender in my life! The service was amazing with the staff being very patient and responsive when it came to us asking about how the dishes we ordered were prepared and even gave us very good recommendations. The location is kinda small but, nonetheless very inviting and cozy which is perfect for a date or, outing with friends or family.
