I had an appointment with Anna. She wasn't interacting with my hair half of the time when I was there sitting, she was just chitchatting, asking me questions. She finally finished color touch-up on my hair then put me on hold for 30 minutes and she got another customer to cut his hair. Coloring my hair already took more than 20 minutes and she added extra 30 min wait time. I was trying to be patient but my scalp started to itch after that long time of waiting and I had to tell her about it. Luckily she finished her job with other customer on time and washed my hair. She used shampoo, which she supposed not to after hair coloring. Then she blow dried my hair. My hair already felt bad. Finally I was out after 2.5-3h sitting there. And she told me my check is $90! Before I book an appointment I asked them about their prices: The receptionist told me that color touch up + blow dry $40. I told this to Anna since she didn't mention anything, and figured her blow dry is extra $20. Luckily she gave me $20 discount for my trouble. Then I had to confirm all these info with the receptionist and she apologized for giving me the cheapest stylist price and ended up booking me with the most expensive one. I am unsatisfied with their hair service. My hair got frizzy and feels& looks terrible. read more

I spent an hour here only to get the choppiest haircut. I wanted it styled as it was before, just shorter. But all my layers were obliterated, taper was gone, hair was all blunt. I tried to have the stylist fix it many times but I gave up because I just didn't want to sit through it anymore and there was not even time to cut my boyfriend's hair too (which I was told they'd likely have time for). I love this place, so I had to raise their stars to 5. I recently went to a party and had two other guest come up to me and tell me they tried Mitchell James because of my review on Yelp. I have been coming here for almost three years + and never been happier with a salon and stylist. My stylist of choice is Cate McDonald, she is so talented and personable. As I have stated in previous review, I love a scissor cut, do not use those snap combs on a clipper on my hair. I want a precision cut and Cate delivers. I am a natural salt & pepper hair color so I do not need a colorist, but Michelle Abernathy who has the station next to Cate is a color artist. In fact the two work as a team, Michelle does the highlights or color and Cate creates the fantastic cut. James has been working on my hair for 20 years on & off. I ended the relationship today. James was very distracted while cutting & coloring. A few days later when I expressed my displeasure he told me to part it on the other side, then told me to wear it curly. Never accepting that he simply did a bad job that day. I posted the pics on FB (I live 800miles away) 5 days later and never stated the salon, or hairdresser. James was so mad, he identified himself, he called out all the comments & went so far as to call the boss of those who made innocent comments!!! He actually looked my friends up on Linked In & called their bosses to complain about their comments!!!. He also sent a private Facebook message to people in my contacts. I walked in to schedule an appointment and the place was not only filthy with hair every where but when I checked about an appointment, they were extremely rude. I walked out and never booked. The following week, my friend went there in spite of the warning I gave her and they completely ruined her hair. I personally had to redo her hair myself. I'm not sure I've had an experience like this at a salon in my life, and I've been to a few. My stylist moved to this salon, so of course I made an appointment. I have a 5 month old daughter, and had to coordinate with my mom so that she could come with me and watch her. We get to the salon, and the receptionist and a stylist are talking, and continue to chat for 10 full minutes before acknowledging us. I say I'm there to see *stylist*, and they go back to tell her. Someone comes up and says she's not there yet. Ok. So we wait. No one offers us a drink, or if we need anything while we wait, as would be expected in a salon that looks this high end. Nearly 40 minutes into my wait, I'm getting extremely frustrated, but I put a lot into planning to get out there, so we ask if *stylist* is on her way. The OWNER of the salon is there, and says, "Oh, *stylist* has strep throat, she's out sick today... are you waiting for her?" Um. What? I then ask why no one told me that when we arrived, or in the 40 minutes we sat there with a crying baby, or why I wasn't called when *stylist* called in sick. When he has no response, I say, tell *stylist* I'm sorry, but I won't be coming back. OWNER then proceeds to jump down my throat (while I'm holding my child), yelling at me in a manner not appropriate for any service professional, much less a business owner. Telling me how could I do that, she's sick, she doesn't deserve that. In order to keep my composure, I had to just close my mouth, pack up my child and my mom, and leave without a word. I was honestly speechless. My response should have been "It's not that she's sick, of course I understand that, it's YOUR customer service that will keep me from coming back. She lost a client because of YOU." What's really sad is that my stylist will lose not just me, but all the friends and family I've referred to her and her previous salon. Since moving here, friends have said her schedule is a mess, and she was previously fantastic. My mom and my friend who were with me had cut/color/massage appointments booked for next week, many hundreds of dollars' worth of business, and witnessed his disrespectful performance. Even the woman in the elevator as we left said she'd rethink coming back after that. Reconsider making an appointment here if you are a new client, and if you do, expect poor service and an unprofessional attitude in a very pretty package. I used to really enjoy having my hair done at Mitchell James. I switched salons because the stylist would push the products up at the front to the point that I felt uncomfortable. I already spent enough on the hair cut; I do not want to buy over-priced products from the salon. I kept having to make up excuses. When I graduated school and found a job, I decided to switch salons because I didn't want to continue to make up excuses as to why I wasn't buying the products. I liked the hair cuts, but the pushy sales-person angle that the salon takes is so not worth it. I was a potential client... "Was"...... I was scheduling my appointment and evidently I was speaking with the "owner" "James".... At first it seemed alright until I misunderstood him and asked him to repeat himself. I say; "I'm sorry?" or "Excuse me?" When I misapprehend someone .... I have terrible hearing... He then decides to reiterate it very slowly... like as if he was reading a book for the first time or more like I was slow... dude really??? So he puts me down in his appointment book. Then 15 minutes later I received a call from him, calling to apologize for the miscommunication we had earlier... I excepted until he tells me that he couldn't help himself because of how discourteous I was....Uhhhhhhh I wasn't discourteous....Never mess with people who mess with your hair. The goes with food! I was stunned and it seemed that my surprised phrase upset him, he starts calling me the "female dog word" repetitively. He cancels the appointment which I didn't mind since I scheduled a new app. at a different salon (which they told me James Mitchell had a few screws loose, that he treats everyone with zero admiration.) I feel sorry for his stylist and the clients that walk into that salon. I wanted to call the BBB and place a LOOONG story on Yelp so; I decide to go up there to see if he was the real owner. I wanted to see if he was the true owner or just a manager. (I was trying to get information. Plus, it was on the way to work.)(Yes, I kind of went out my way) He calls me later that night yelling at me for going up there and I couldn't even get a word in and explain myself! James does a great job cutting my hair so I can style my hair easily which I don't find true with other stylists. James is a great stylist who keeps current with the styles and trends. I made an appointment here for a body wave, which is permanent big loose curls, after about half way through the process my stylist confessed to me that she "had not done one of these in 10 years." At this point I was a little worried... Come to find out she was giving me a perm! Yes, a perm from the 80's. I bought a groupon here in December. During my visit, they kept trying to get me to upgrade and it was really awkward the whole time. I only wanted what I paid for. The girl cutting my hair kept talking about how broke she was and then demanded to know how much I was going to tip her. I also thought it was odd that a blow dry costs $20 more. Nothing better than walking out of a salon with dripping wet hair. Then I had a facial scheduled, they called to confirm it with me and the lady doing the facial called me the next day to tell me the appointment was extremely inconvenient. I called the place back and asked to speak to a manager about how rude she was to me on the phone and I just ended up talking to the receptionist. The manager didn't care to talk to me. Normal salons I have been to have tried to make me feel welcome after that, this one did not. I ended up demanding a refund from groupon and will NEVER go back here. This review is solely for the wax/esthetician. If you want a quick and dirty brazilian, then go here. I went one time, was walked into the room and paying the bill within 8 minutes. I felt weirdly violated in a way. The things that bothered me was that the esthetician was blowing on the wax, which felt unsanitary. Then after she was done, she just left the room. I was not offered a mirror to check out the job and she didn't tweeze any remnants she missed. So to pay 50$ for a less than 5 minute service felt like a complete rip off. read more

I LOVE my stylist, Aimee, whom I followed here from another salon (where we worked together -- me as a massage therapist). I also worked with Jd and he makes beautiful "movie star" hair. The receptionists are extremely efficient and knowledgeable on the phone and with setting up appointments, which is greatly appreciated. I've been used to more intimate salons, I guess, because Mitchell James is huge and open and noisy. It doesn't affect my personal service, but it makes the whole place seem kind of chaotic. read more

I love this place! Sladjana is by far the best aesthetician there is. I had a Brazilian Wax with her today and I was in and out within 15 minutes. I have had waxes at a number of salons and I always expect it to take a little longer than I want and about an hour or so. Not only was it quick but it was effective and not very painful at all! Sure it isn't a pleasant feeling but nothing unbearable. Her waxes are also the most reasonable at $50. I would recommend her to anyone! read more

Wow. Went in for a relatively simple haircut. My stylist was relatively friendly, but the owner was rude. At first I thought he was trying to be funny with his comments to me and others (he wasn't). I even looked at my stylist who then shrugged and rolled her eyes. Before My cut was finished I saw the owner lay into one of the other employees. I think the employee started to cry . Later, I mentioned what happened to a group of friends. Many of them confirmed that such behavior was not unusual for the owner dude. The owner is rude and unprofessional to his staff. I have seen the owner lash out and yell at and talk down to his receptionists, managers, and even his assistants. I saw abusive texts to former staff members after they quit because of his attitude towards everyone. I myself, used to work here and upon my decision to finally walk away after dealing with multiple temper tantrums, being called a liar, and a thief with nothing but a clean record to my name, I received a text telling me I "look trashy" and he should've known better. I didn't even leave on bad terms. I had to change my number to finally get peace. I simply wanted to walk away from all the anxiety, negativity, and hostility that salon caused us all. The stylists Zac, Mary, and Michelle are all great and worth going to along with esthetician Sladjana and Erin, I will continue supporting them but I personally won't support a business owner that treats his staff like garbage. read more
