While I love that this restaurant and ice cream place is on the water, the prices are severely overpriced for the food and ice cream. They serve Perry's ice cream which is good and all, but the prices for what you get are ridiculous. The food section is also overpriced, a chicken sandwich and fries will run you about $17, that's just cray. While this is a fun place to chill by the river or come to when it's the beginning of summer, just beware of the prices. It is a staple of Tonawanda summer's, so I do come here, and enjoy it. There is plenty of outdoor seating as some indoor seating, the rooftop seating is the best, so sit up there if you can! read more

Great location on the water. Food is consistently great, although expensive. That's my only con. Employees are always kind and their system to order and receive your food is very efficient. The BBQ chicken sandwich is my go to, I crave it all year long. They also have really good loaded dry options! Went here because old man river no longer sold beef on welk. It was a favorite sandwich eaten when spouse lived in Tonawanda it has angus beef on kimmblewelk roll. So disappointing-- The sandwich was terrible, so much that I didn't eat it. Meat was tough, dry, over cooked, grey color like it was old. Disgusting!!! Hot dog mediocre salty tasting, onion rings typical you get about 7 for $3.99. Would not recommend this place, not friendly, not clean. The only reason to visit this place is the scenery which is the lake across the street. There are better places to eat within places of the river for better food. There's nothing like the sweet potato fries and soft serve that you get here. My dad and I have been coming here for years and it's one of my favorite summer traditions. No matter how stuffed you are from a good meal from here, there's ALWAYS room for a freshly made waffle cone and the magic that comes from their soft serve machines. I came here with some friends and their kids on Saturday. Our plan was lunch, a long walk by the river, and ice cream. I looked up the menu prior to our arrival and was pleased to see a veggie burger listed. This place is cute, always a line, and a nice rooftop seating area. Sadly, the food was disgusting and overpriced. While ordering I asked the cashier about the veggie burger, under the assumption that he would have some clue what was in it, if it was made in-house or came frozen, etc. He was nice but had no idea so I took a gamble and at $5.99 for just the burger (does not include fries!!) I was incredibly disappointed by how bland it was. It tasted like plain rubber. There was some sort of tasteless white cheese melted on it, and I added lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. I ate it because I was starving but will never order it again and do not recommend to anyone. The fries were $3.59, and slightly under-cooked and not salted. They were edible but would not order again. I don't drink pop so bought a $2.50 bottle of water. It was an expensive, disappointing meal. The best part was our seat on the roof, overlooking the street and river. The chocolate vanilla twist custard cone I got later was fine, nothing to write home about. Bottom-line? Go for a cone, the view from upstairs, and the people watching. If you're a vegetarian/vegan just avoid it all together. read more

I think the concept of Mississippi Mudds is actually quite funny. Tons of people go to wait 25 minutes in line and be overcharged for their food, just to order things that can all be made from the comfort of your own home for way cheaper. But alas, I love Mississippi mudds and I will never stop going. Going to Mississippi Mudds is just something you do during the summertime. Its fun to sit on the roof and enjoy your food while overlooking the water. Conveniently to walk down just a few stairs after to grab some ice cream! They have burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, French fries, corn on the cob, chicken fingers etc. (like I said, all things that can be made from home but its better to come here for them!) Their marinated chicken sandwich is delicious. It tastes like a chiavettas marinade of sorts, and I love how thin the piece of chicken is. Their burgers are tasty too. However, don't even waste your time or money by getting just a regular burger, you have to get the mighty mudd. It is a much thicker and jucier patty. Mississippi Mudds is a major landmark in my childhood memories. Right by the river, the restaurant is only open for the warmer part of the year. I've actually been to MM twice this year, which is more than usual given the fact that I no longer live nearby. I was happy to find that the menu is just as I remembered it. Nothing is better than a hot dog, side of fries, and a loganberry on a hot Sunday afternoon. After finishing my meal, I always grab an ice cream (portions are huge!) and wander around by the river on the bike trail. I finally got to share this essential summer experience with my fiancee last weekend when we found ourselves hungry and in the area. He wasn't blown away by the food, but definitely appreciated the overall experience. read more

So disappointed. This restaurant has a fabulous location, but the food is awful & the place is deteriorating as well as filthy. We stopped for a grilled chicken salad. $7.99 for lettuce and cucumber with "grilled" chicken cut up, heated up in an aluminum bag on the side.. The "lite" raspberry dressing was syrupy w/TEN (10) grams of sugar. Terrible. We sat on the ground floor outside. The chairs are rusting and tables wobbly. The screens to the covered patio are filthy, as are the floors. The men's bathroom was out of towels and the women's bathroom was filthy. The floor looks as tho it's hasn't been scrubbed in months. The manager should be fired. And the owner needs to either remodel, get some good food in there OR sell it to someone who will value the location. read more

Throughout the years I've been to Mississippi Mudds quite a few times. It's a quick but quality fast food joint. Hot dogs, ice cream appeal to me but I mostly go for the summertime atmosphere and the view. It is a convenient place to grab a bite to eat especially if you will be doing anything (walking, biking, hanging out, etc.) across the street at Niawanda Park. If not, it's still a cool place to chill if you want to experience the Buffalo summertime vibes. The menu selection and prices are good, fair and comparable. Parking can be tricky if you visit at a busy time but if you're willing to walk it's not impossible. I actually think parking down the road, and enjoying the anticipation adds to the experience. Recently I swung by for some ice cream after a kayaking adventure down the road. I got my standard: chocolate/vanilla twist on a cone. I've been getting the same thing for years, all over, and the cone here did not disappoint. The custard was thick and creamy, not icy or watery as it is sometimes at other places. I could also distinguish between chocolate and vanilla - sometimes they both taste the same. The price for the cone was average. There was no wait at 8:30pm on a Tuesday night. The best part of the trip was turning around walking across the street stealing an empty bench and watching the sunset over Grand Island. If you've never been, check it out. It's fun. It's summer. I, Mudd I can't say enough about Mississippi Mudds! When I ask them to burn my hot dog, they do! And the sweat potatoe fries are scumptious. Its true, tho, that when the line is long, people stand in the road. They dont even have to, but they do. What's up with that? It seems cleaner then Old Man Rivers, so if your bringing snooty relatives from out of town and they might turn up their noses at the squat, whale-decorated OMR, than leave them at home. PROS: Food! I love this place. Their food is pretty fantastic across the board. That said, my order is always the same: cheeseburger and sweet potato fries with honey and butter. Really, delish! I go here for the sweet fries. However, the burgers are good. They are put on the grill when you order and counter staff follow-up with what toppings you'd like. They have a roof deck that offers a wonderful view of the river on a sunny day. Or you can take your food across the street to a picnic bench in the park. Vegan options i have tried are awesome. I have tried the California Burger, and their vegan custard that they now offer. They also offer the Beyond Burger and Field Roast Italian Sausage which I have not tried yet. A bunch of vegan options, more than most places. Everything is on their website. Vegan food is prepped in areas where non-vegan food is prepped according to a sign under their menu inside the location. read more

I went here a few weeks ago and totally forgot about it - thats how the whole experience was... forgettable. I love the look and the charm of the institution, but I stood there and watched employees just stand there and do nothing except joke around. I'm a true fan and believer of Teds so I may be bias here. I love the area which keeps me interested in Mississippi Mudds. Yes; it is the dead of winter as I write this review, but spring and summer will be here one day. The breezes off the river will be enjoyable and refreshing, not bone-chilling as they are today. Mississippi Mudds has the same basic food as Old Man River just down the street, and like OMR, you pay a higher price for hot dogs and the like because of the view. Where Mississippi Mudds excels is in the ice cream. You can find a variety of Perry's Ice Cream flavors and something sure to be out of the ordinary. Wow! What a view! And, the hot dogs, burgers, sweet potato fries, and ice cream are pretty darn good too. The hot dogs are cooked over a charcoal grill for that delicious charbroiled flavor... and can be topped with (fantastic) hot sauce, mustard, ketchup, relish, onions, and/or pickles. The sweet potato fries are so yummy that they don't even need the butter and honey plopped over the top. I always get mine plain to save my calories for an ice cream dessert (yeah... like I REALLY worry about such things). The ice cream counter out front scoops the standard Perry's flavors, plus has "itty-bits" (a different brand of "dippin' dots"), lemon ice, and some pretty fantastic frozen custard. I always get a small chocolate/vanilla twist and it's pretty generous in size. The store-made waffle cones are great. my son's favorite is the Mudd Shake... not a coffee-chocolate as one might imagine, but rather a peanutbutter-chocolate. One bit of warning though.... if you get a sundae, the whipped topping is the nasty non-dairy kind. Totally ruins a good thing! read more

Went to Mississippi Mud's a few days ago. My Mom wanted a hot dog and I was craving sweet potato fries. The hot dogs were standard issue - not as charcoal tasting as Ted's, but fine. The sweet potato fries, however, were bleeehhhh. Mushy, underdone and not crispy. Not sure how they pulled that off. I asked for a new serving, and they cheerfully cooked up another mushy, limp batch only slightly better than the first. It occurred to me I had an experience like that last year too. I love Niawanda Park and often walk there, so MM is convenient summer food, but they need to get their sweet potato fries under control. read more
