I love Red Top. On a gloomy day it has still had people clamoring for their food. The hotdog was fantastic. I had a chili dog. It was nicely charcol grilled-wonderful. Totally different from Ted's. I think I like this better. At just over $5, this is a terrific place to bring your dog. It's very dog friendly. No bathrooms. Takes credit cards. No indoor seating. Overall, Red Top is a nice old timey place to be by the lake. I highly recommend this joint. read more

Great dogs, fast service! They are in their 80th season serving up some great Frankfurters. While there is no indoor seating to speak of, they do have an outdoor covered environment with picnic tables for inclement weather days. I ordered a kraut and cheese dog and a dog with all the fixins. The kraut and cheese dog was absolutely delicious, as was the other dog, and you get to choose what you want to put on top of your dog from a fixins self serve bar. What I really liked about the kraut was that it was grilled, rather than just simply microwaved or warmed up. The shake was also a good size and very flavorful. This is great place to hit if you are doing a " hot dog " trail. Cottage fries are like a yummy homemade potato chip.

Red Top is my absolute favorite hot dog stand and happens to be extremely close to my house. I stop here often for lunch. The workers are all great and the food is very consistent. They even take credit cards now! I do wish they would upgrade the condiment bar to squeeze bottles or ketchup and mustard though because applying it to a hotdog with a spoon is not ideal and they attract flies. Prices are decent and there is plenty of outdoor seating and parking. read more

Stopped at Red Top hot dog stand for the 1st time. Drove by it for years and years but never stopped so today was the day to check out the place! It was like turning back in time ! Place looks like it never changed even the signs looked like the original ones. Very small place you go in one door order your food pay move down they give you your food you put on your condiments and leave at the other door so simple The place was packed. They have plenty of places to eat outside we went across the street by the water to eat ours. The dogs were great the fries looked like ripple potato chips my daughter loved them and surprisingly I liked them too they have alot on their menu from Hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and even a cube steak sandwich. There was 4 guys working behind the counter like a well oiled machine . I going to stop again this summer on my way to the lake! And the prices aren't bad either read more

Love little, cute places like this - and there is a vintage or neon sign - the food could be gross and I would still contemplate stopping. Seemed like a family run establishment and HEY THEY WERE OPEN FOR LUNCH ON A SUNDAY as advertised online. They do this little thing to the hotdog where its spiraled open then grilled. I like that. i also like cheese on my hotdog, they also do that. They also have every hotdog topping ready for you and labeled. I like that. Such a cute little spot to stop during the summer! They are open most days 11-8. Check their Facebook page or sign out front to be sure. During the spring they were open Thursday - Sunday 11-3 which was perfect! The hotdogs, hamburgers and onion rings were cooked perfectly. You watch them get grilled right inside. Quick, easy, cheap and delicious. We got 2 cheeseburgers, 2 hot dogs and an onion ring for $22. Cash only. Picnic tables outside were nice and clean. I was on a drive to see the views of Lake Erie and noticed Red Top was open for lunch, and what a coincidence, I was in need of said meal. This outdoor eating establishment had the proper social distancing placards on the floor and everyone was respecting those guidelines. The one super weird and strange thing that Red Top has going for them is even during these times, this establishment is cash only. Now, being cash only in 2020 is stupid to begin with since most people carry cards and you are eliminating a good amount of business, but most establishments have evolved during this pandemic to take cards for safety reasons. The food itself was pretty standard for basic hot dogs and hamburgers (one of each is exactly what I ordered). The food here tastes made at home on the grill and if that's what you are looking for, this is the perfect place for you. Overall, even though we had to limit what we ordered due to the cash only rule, the hotdog and hamburger were both enjoyable and it was a small sense of comfort being out and about for a few minutes. The water was especially green late this morning when we stopped for an early lunch. We were headed to 18 Mile Creek for some fishing & decided to get a bite to eat first. We passed the Tim Horton's, realized it might be the only place we could grab a bite, and turned around to go back. Almost to their parking lot, we spotted this awesome little stand across the street from Tim's, and since I'm not really a fan of Tim's lunches, I pulled into this place instead. There's plenty of parking. Plenty of covered outdoor seating. We chose a spot in the sun since it was still kind of chilly in the shade. Now let's talk about the food. That's the reason we all go to these places, right? The menu is very straightforward. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and a couple of surprises. But the real treasure as far as I'm concerned are the fries. They are the perfect combination between French fries and potato chips. As I sit here writing this review in the parking lot of the fishing access for 18 Mile Creek, I'm already trying to plan a way to convince my husband we need to stop on the way home for more fries. The cheeseburgers we ordered were perfectly cooked. I can't imagine they'd mess up any of the food on the menu. Finally, I'd be remiss if I failed to mention the great customer service. Yes, they are cash only. During COVID things were a little harder than normal since all of the condiments were in packets. There is only outdoor seating so that was great. I think my absolute favorite thing (that I've been getting since I was a kid) are the "potato chip" fries-- just fries, but cut into chip shape. I don't know why, but I absolutely love getting an order and dousing them with ketchip, vinegar, and salt. Burgers and dogs are good (order more than you think; they are pretty small--- in fact, everything is small... that "large" coke you are ordering is the equivalent to a "small" pretty much everywhere else). I am from Pennsylvania. I have family in western NY. Any time I'm near this area I stop. And I pig out. It's my only must-stop place. The dogs: Local hot dogs cooked on a char-broiler over charcoal. They are punctured and sizzled to perfection by the cooks. They also toast the bun on the same grill which adds to the grilled deliciousness. There is a condiment bar that includes ketchup (Heinz), Weber's mustard (western NY staple), sweet relish, dill relish, minced onion, and hot sauce. Other things like chili and cheese available on request. The fries: Fresh cut cottage fries. Very reminiscent of a ruffles potato chip, but a little thicker. Recommend salt and vinegar with them! The shake: If you come here for a dog and fries... You MUST get a shake. They have a plethora of flavors... Don't be fooled. Get a classic malt. Vanilla is the best, chocolate a close second. I've been here several times and this was the worst. I expect fries to be hot and snappy and crispy and these were their special ripple ones and they were soggy and unevenly cooked and the serving of ketchup was minuscule. Was it because it was a rainy day? Because it was 3pm in the afternoon? Because it was a Tuesday? Are they resting on their laurels? Red Top is one of my favorite places in Western New York to get a hot dog. I wouldn't say they have the best food, but for nostalgia purposes and the fact that even after seventy years of business they're still going strong, I'd recommend them. I don't believe they sell foot-long hot dogs, but a couple of regular dogs are just as good. I don't really taste the charcoal base for the hot dogs. Ted's has a distinct charbroiled taste, which I think makes them a tad better than Red Top. I love the fries here, though. The chip quality of the fries makes sense because Red Top has retained its old-fashioned vibe. It's one room-- an entrance, walk-through, order, and exit out another door. The cash register they use has to be from the fifties. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a hot dog and you're in the area. Good place to stop for hot dogs with kids! The food is good and reasonably priced. They don't take credit cards so that is a pain. I am probably the only one who doesn't like their style of french fries, they're flat like potato chips but they're not crunchy. So they're just greasy, floppy potato circles. They should either make them thicker, a la waffle fries, or just give folks potato chips. Overall not a bad place to stop and grab a quick bite. read more

My wife and I ended up there, was exactly what we were looking for. It was the end of the summer, so we stopped, parked, went in and ordered. Hotdogs were good, but fries were greasy and soggy, just horrible. After we sat down, we took a few of those disgusting fries and fed them to the many birds congregating around us. Just one or two......then suddenly, a young voice from inside hollered "don't feed the birds" scolding us.......embarrassing us in front of all the other patrons. This could have been handled 100 different ways, none of which included embarrassing us....maybe post a sign saying not to feed birds, or simply coming out and quietly asking us to stop out of earshot of other guests would have been more appropriate.....We will never go there again !!! read more

Outrageous service! On July 1st I had family in from out of town- first stop for a 'real' hot dog was Red Top - we go there often. Well, I mistakenly put hot sauce on one hot dog instead of ketchup...clearly my mistake but I am sure not the first to do this. When I apologized for my mistake I was told to " wipe off" the hot sauce ?!!! Keeping my calm I asked if I could have another hot dog..I was told YES but I would be charged. I'm sorry but that is just such BAD business. I will never go there again.. This place may have been around a long time but the crew they had working that day may change that. read more
