Red Top roadside hotdog stand.... on the water in Hamburg New York.
Ginger S.

The Scarlet Vetter says.....are you hankering for a dog charbroiled to perfection and a black raspberry milkshake? Look no further than this roadside stand overlooking the water in Hamburg. Great dogs, fast service! They are in their 80th season serving up some great Frankfurters. While there is no indoor seating to speak of, they do have an outdoor covered environment with picnic tables for inclement weather days. I ordered a kraut and cheese dog and a dog with all the fixins. The kraut and cheese dog was absolutely delicious, as was the other dog, and you get to choose what you want to put on top of your dog from a fixins self serve bar. What I really liked about the kraut was that it was grilled, rather than just simply microwaved or warmed up. The shake was also a good size and very flavorful. I also ordered a small side of onion rings, and they were quite good as well. What this place lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in flavorful food and cheerful, friendly staff.

There's nothing to say besides 10/5 stars for Red Top. Your hotdog will be cooked to perfection, your milkshake blended to excellence and your fries fried and covered with cheese. What else can you ask for?

Stopped at Red Top hot dog stand for the 1st time. Drove by it for years and years but never stopped so today was the day to check out the place! It was like turning back in time ! Place looks like it never changed even the signs looked like the original ones. Very small place you go in one door order your food pay move down they give you your food you put on your condiments and leave at the other door so simple The place was packed. They have plenty of places to eat outside we went across the street by the water to eat ours. The dogs were great the fries looked like ripple potato chips my daughter loved them and surprisingly I liked them too they have alot on their menu from Hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and even a cube steak sandwich. There was 4 guys working behind the counter like a well oiled machine . I going to stop again this summer on my way to the lake! And the prices aren't bad either

Condiment setup - loved that they had garlic and thicker hot sauce available

Nostalgic factor here... only cash, limited menu, old time register, only outdoor seating. But they do what they do best! Love the cottage fries - a fry in a potato chip shape. Condiment station had the classics, plus thicker hot sauce and garlic, loved that. I say, stop here for a dog and fries, and then head to Amsdell Ice cream. A classic summer meal.

I stopped here almost a week ago. I had a cherry milkshake, a cheeseburger and an order of onion rings. Both were great. My companion had fresh cut fries and a cheeseburger. This place is small and is cash only. You can sit outside like we did, on concrete slabs, or in your car. The service was good too. I'm glad we stopped here. It was a good time.

Stopped here on our way out of Buffalo and headed to Derby. Roadside shack with seating under tents and a pavilion. Staff was ultra friendly and I really appreciated them. Hot dog was ok - got it with chili. Cottage fries are fry version of potato chips with ruffles. They were the best part. My malt shake had no malt powder in it. Overall good. Would recommend .

Love little, cute places like this - and there is a vintage or neon sign - the food could be gross and I would still contemplate stopping. Seemed like a family run establishment and HEY THEY WERE OPEN FOR LUNCH ON A SUNDAY as advertised online. They do this little thing to the hotdog where its spiraled open then grilled. I like that. i also like cheese on my hotdog, they also do that. They also have every hotdog topping ready for you and labeled. I like that. I probably shouldve gotten another hotdog but hey we stopped a few hours later for some pizza as our entree. Their fries are like better than Chick Fil A and they do that sort of style.

Such a cute little spot to stop during the summer! They are open most days 11-8. Check their Facebook page or sign out front to be sure. During the spring they were open Thursday - Sunday 11-3 which was perfect! The hotdogs, hamburgers and onion rings were cooked perfectly. You watch them get grilled right inside. Quick, easy, cheap and delicious. We got 2 cheeseburgers, 2 hot dogs and an onion ring for $22. Cash only. Picnic tables outside were nice and clean. Such a treat and can't wait to be back again this summer!

Must stop to enjoy!

Classic American stadium style hotdog. Their dogs are signature charcoal grilled and boy can you taste the difference! Perfect size, perfect bite! A true American pastime snack! Great service and nice seating outside to enjoy in the sun!

Hotdogs and hamburger with some fries.

I was on a drive to see the views of Lake Erie and noticed Red Top was open for lunch, and what a coincidence, I was in need of said meal. This outdoor eating establishment had the proper social distancing placards on the floor and everyone was respecting those guidelines. The one super weird and strange thing that Red Top has going for them is even during these times, this establishment is cash only. Now, being cash only in 2020 is stupid to begin with since most people carry cards and you are eliminating a good amount of business, but most establishments have evolved during this pandemic to take cards for safety reasons. The food itself was pretty standard for basic hot dogs and hamburgers (one of each is exactly what I ordered). The food here tastes made at home on the grill and if that's what you are looking for, this is the perfect place for you. Overall, even though we had to limit what we ordered due to the cash only rule, the hotdog and hamburger were both enjoyable and it was a small sense of comfort being out and about for a few minutes. This is definitely the type of place that's nice to stop at during the summer.

Growing up in the cradle of sausage making with the likes of Malecki's, Szelagowski, Wardynski, Sahlen and Frey's, I'm hooked on New York Hot Dogs and The Red Top does it best. Though Ciff has been gone for years and there's no one to benignly insult customers, it's still a lasting institution. A loyal patron since 1966, I always fit in a visit on the shores of Lake Erie when I'm in town. The dill relish, pickled onions and house-made hot sauce dress the char-grilled dogs perfectly. Add chip fries and the Canadian influence malt vinegar and a perfect sunny breezy summer day is further enhanced. Chew, savor and rinse with a root beer milkshake and welcome to hog heaven.

Be careful pulling in, it's steep and you can bottom out easily!! This is one of 4 Western New York locations, and like the others, it delivers the same reliable experience every time. The Texas hots themselves are delicious - snappy Sahlen's dogs, soft rolls, and that signature meat sauce that hits all the right notes. Wish there was a little more meat in the sauce, but when you live out of state, you really can't complain because this is hometown comfort food you've spent your entire life eating. It's comfort food through and through, and you can tell they've been doing this a long time. The staff is friendly and chatty, the kind of place where you get quick service and a bit of banter without any pretense. Inside, it's a no-frills setup: hot dogs, burgers, and breakfast are the stars of the show, and that's exactly what you're here for. The dining area and bathroom were clean, which goes a long way for a spot that sees a lot of traffic, especially being this close to the stadium. Overall, this is the kind of place you can't really go wrong with. If you want classic Western New York Texas hots done right, served fast, and done the same way every time, this is a very consistent spot. Dad was happy too :)

Besides a toddler in a car seat watching a children's show on one of the TV's. I guess better to show up to work and bring your kid rather than not showing up. The child was quiet, but we really didn't want to listen to a children's show while we ate dinner. The waitress came over shortly after we sat down, brought us chips and salsa & took our drink order. The chips looked homemade and we're good. The salsa reminded us more of a tomato sauce than a salsa; zero spice or much flavor other than tomato. When it came to ordering food I got the birria ramen and wanted a tamale but they were out; my boyfriend ordered a steak quesadilla. I also ordered the Jamaica hibiscus beverage. My ramen was pretty good; lots of meat, which was wonderful! I feel the broth could have had little more flavor. The Jamaica was tasty. My boyfriend enjoyed his quesadilla, but it came out on a paper liner and the cheese resulted it being pretty stuck to the paper. I can't say that we would visit again. On our visit, I saw on Tuesday nights they do have all you can eat birria ramen & tacos for a fixed price (see pics).

Well we had a certificate to use , and it's because of these endless ads from Facebook. The table chips and salsa were dark almost as if over cooked a bit and the salsa was very very mild. We also got the queso and chips. Same chips but the queso was fantastic. Birra ramen came in a quart container, had fantastic flavor and was loaded with chunks of meat that just melted in the mouth. My birra quesadillas were good, fair amount of meat and cheese, a bit bland but the bowl of dipping birra helped redeem it a bit. The chicken wrap was huge, and was basically the same thing as the quesadilla with got just minus the bowl again a very similar flavor as my dish, just presented different Kids nuggets and fries, a solid handful of nuggets and mountain of fries. The little yelper was not impressed, I tried one and agreed ( but let's be honest, nobody is here for nuggets). The mango smoothie was the star of the show. Ice cold and quite refreshing. Also, the younger guy who was bussing tables and running food was incredibly friendly and helpful. After experiencing Mexico City I can definitely say that we don't plan on returning based on cleanliness (idk how they have a 100 score) and "420" odor. The food was good but not good enough to offset the condition of the place.
