Dr. Sanchez has been taking care of my son's and my eyeballs for years. She's so kind and gracious, always accessible, especially when we have eye infections or want to look cool on our next vacation. She's the best there is. read more

Thank you Dr. Ruby Sanchez! I called in a panic because I had broken my glasses, and my prescription was so old that I needed to update it before replacing them. She was able to fit me in same day, during a holiday week! I had an interest in contacts and she walked me through it each step of the way. I walked out able to see with a trial pair of contacts, which meant the world to me after struggling with an old prescription for so long. I appreciated her demeanor and positivity! No judgment for not getting my eyes checked for years, I'm glad I found such a great optometrist! read more

I have been going to Dr. Ruby Sanchez for a couple of years now. Appointments are easy to schedule, their staff is friendly and professional and everything is super speedy. Dr. Sanchez takes the time to go over what she sees, which I appreciate, and she carries a warm and welcoming personality, which is always nice during health appointments. All in all, I would recommend Mission Optometry for your vision needs. read more

Staff and doctor are really friendly! They found and explained my insurance very well. Dr Sanchez is a great optometrist, she was very thorough and explains everything well. I also got a very nice pair of raybands for a good price. I highly recommended this place to others ! :) read more

The doctor is really great, I highly recommend this place. I needed an appointment urgently because I had an infection in my eyes and the doctor thankfully squeezed me in. I also got my anual eye exam done and she explained everything to me very well. read more

FOUR EYES AND PROUD! (5 stars) 4 is greater than 2 Found this place on yelp. Dr Sanchez is great and she feels where I'm coming from. Their eyewear selection is great, lower-end to high-end. Check-in, get free lens cleaning. Quick turnaround. - eye exam resulted to very low prescription - Marc by Marc Jacobs (one of my favorite brands) frames that fit my face - progressive lens (because I'm fancy like that) - damage was only $195 out of pocket with the best VSP coverage plan.... Could have been $700/800 without coverage - everything ready in 3 days ;) Will I be back? Yup!! JABA APPROVED. Until the next review... read more

This place is great. I was able to come in for an exam the same day I wanted one and the staff was super nice. The initial assessment involved some high tech gear that I've never seen before, but the gentleman's demeanor and professionalism made it easy peasy! Dr. Sanchez was informative and professional. She got my prescription together and taught me a few things about the ol' peepers that I didn't know before. They have a decent selection of frames, were helpful, and not pushy at all. All in all, I really enjoyed my experience here and would recommend this office to any of my friends or family. read more

This is my first time ever leaving a one star review on yelp, but unfortunately this business is not honest and upfront with costs and charged me an extra $40 for my eye exam that they knew wasn't covered by my insurance... Oh, yeah and they didn't tell me about this cost until at the end of the appointment when they gave me my bill/reciept. The also don't give you your cost upfront, I thought I would be reimbursed through my VSP plan but they added extras that werent covered without telling me. I even called them to ask about this and they said it is part of the normal exam and I wouldve had to ask to not have it be part of my normal eye exam... HOW SHOULD I HAVE KNOWN. Im feeling very scammed and upset and would not recommend going here for the headache and dishonesty of the company. That being said Dr. Sanchez did correct my prescription and I can see well again, but based on my overall experience I would NOT reccomend going here unless you want to be charged hidden fees and feel taken advantage of. read more

I never leave bad reviews, but my husband and I are very frustrated by the experience he had at a recent appointment at mission optometry. They did a very rush job...apparently the whole appointent took 5 min and it was clearly not a thorough job because they really messed up my husband's prescription. He got a new pair of glasses based on the prescription provided and has been dizzy putting them on, which should have gone away after a couple of weeks. It did not. The prescription was significantly different than his old one, and he can actually see better with that old one. Extremely disappointing and frustrating to not be able to trust you'll get a quality prescription from an optometrist... We will now need to pay out of pocket to get my husband's eyes re-examined and new frames when we get a correct prescription.... read more

Used to come here just because it's the optometrist I grew up visiting. Recently changed optometrist and I prefer them a lot more. I always had trouble putting in contact lenses so I gave up on them after awhile. Tried again at my new optometrist and was able to put them on. The optometrist and staff here are nice but it felt like they were annoyed I couldn't keep my eye open. I remember the optometrist herself tried putting them in my eye but she gave up after a couple tries. This new optometrist gave me numbing drops before he inserted them so I could keep my eye open and I got to get a feel for them. Overall, this is an ok place but there's better places out there. read more

This place is a scam. I went in once a long time ago to get some lenses put into a some frames I bought elsewhere and they had me fill out a big long forum of my information before telling me they wouldn't put lenses in frames I didn't buy directly from them and they absolutely would not just take a prescription I got from a doctor. I had to pay for an exam through their optometrist. I said no and now I get a sales call from them every year. read more

Avoid this place if possible. I am a 19 year old student with medi-cal who cannot afford glasses. Luckily, through my insurance I am covered for (one of each) an eye exam, lenses, and frames. I chose this place from the list that my insurance sent me because of it's high ratings. However, after my free eye test ( and having had paid an extra $40 for a retina exam), I was told that my medi-cal program only covered glasses for children, or anyone under 18. Foolishly, I believed what they had told me and chose frames and paid out of pocket. I went home and called my insurance and they were surprised at the fact that Mission Optometry said my program didn't cover free frames because it is covered for everyone under 21. I went back to Mission Optometry and ta-da they do have frames to offer me that are covered by insurance, unfortunately the 5 pairs they showed me were the oldest and ugliest glasses I have ever seen. If I was shown those glasses in the first place I would've said "I'll just take my prescription and see what other optometries offer". Anyways, they don't do refunds so I did not get my money back and my medi-cal authorization code was used by them so I wasn't able to get another pair of fully covered glasses from a much nicer and friendlier place just 2 buildings down, Bella Vista Eye Clinic. If you plan on coming here at all I suggest you don't, especially if you're on a medi-cal program, go to Bella Vista Eye Clinic instead where they have a nicer selection of frames to choose from. -- I'll insert an image of the type of glasses they (Mission Optical) showed me the second time I came in. --UPDATE-- In response to Dr. Sanchez: I believe you were present when I was told that my medi-cal program "only covers free frames for those who are under 18 years old". Seeing as Mission Optometry only works with VSP vision care, you'd think that the people that work there would know and understand their policies. When I went to Bella Vista, they showed me my medi-cal free frame options, which Mission Optometry did not do. In addition, no one "explained" to me that there was a no refund policy, I was just told to sign the receipt, if I had known there was a no refund policy I wouldn't have gone back an hour later to try to cancel my order obviously. It has been over a week and I still have not received any form of apology for Mission Optometry's lack of knowledge of their own policies, because this wasn't a misunderstanding. I received a call from Dr. Sanchez informing me that she would speak to the person who sold me the glasses and call me back to see what could be done, but I never received a call back. read more

Dr. Sanchez is great -- came here for 6 years before I moved away! Attentive, friendly, thorough, and no hassles practice.

Ruby is an exceptional optometrist. I was greeted and registered with care and quickly seen by her. Her assistant (I believe his name was Jose) completed my registration and wrapped up the first part of my eye exam with me. He was efficient and moved me quickly over to the next part of my exam with Ruby. We discussed previous eye prescriptions and settled on a new one that helped alleviate some of the new issues I was running into with my previous prescription. She took time to educate me on how people with my eye condition see, and how our eyes work. (I am near-sighted.) I will definitely be coming in again! read more

Dr. Sanchez is extremely helpful and super friendly. She really cares about her patients and is very informative. She even gave me a free sample of allergy eye drops to try out. I didn't believe that my allergies affected my eyes but the eye drops totally helped! She was right. Anyways, if you don't have vision insurance coverage stop by Payless Optical down the street first. They'll refer you to Dr. Sanchez and give you a card with a discounted price for your eye exam. Yay! read more

I saw the woman opthalmologist here, whose name I unfortunately can't remember, but she was great. I had to get a regular vision checkup and a pupil dilation, and I was treated well both times. The exam room was a bit cramped with too much equipment, though, and I had to sit slightly sideways in the chair, which made it interesting to sit face-forward toward the equipment. That's why only four stars. Every time I've needed to make or reschedule an appointment, I've been able to get one the same week. They take Medicare with a reasonable co-pay. read more

Dr. Sanchez is a really nice doctor who actually listened to my concerns and requests. I'm really high maintenance with my eyes because I have dry eyes yet still insist on wearing contacts. I told her all my needs and asked her a bunch of questions about various contact brands that she was very knowledgeable about. An area I think Mission Optometry can improve on is the quality of service at the front desk. There's obviously a lot of miscommunication between the receptionists and Dr. Sanchez, which translate to disorganization. Another thing is that I wish Dr. Sanchez took a more active role in telling me information rather than only speaking when I ask the questions. Also you can arrange appointments on Zocdoc, which gives them the 4th star. It's too convenient to be able to book appointments online. I wish more doctors would do that! read more

I did my annual eye exam here and had a great experience. Dr. Sanchez thoroughly explained what she saw and was looking for and had a fancy machine that let me skip the eye dilation part. Highly recommended read more

Not sure why there are bad reviews for this place... I think some people just don't have respect for a quiet and efficient business. I chose this place because it is run by women of color and is in my neighborhood. I don't regret it! Dr. Sanchez was thorough and answered all my questions, and fitted me with exactly what I needed, no upsale pressure. Both of her front desk assistants were great, helpful in choosing new frames, good at keeping in touch with me leading up to the appointment. Now that I'm a resident of the Mission, this is the only place I will visit for eye care. My thanks to all the staff members. read more

Went here to get a prescription for a pair of EnChroma glasses (which they do not carry) and asked specifically for an eye exam to order a pair of glasses online. Despite this knowledge they did not take my PD (you need this to order glasses) and informed me on the phone later that they ONLY measure PD if you are purchasing glasses through them. Essentially they did an incomplete exam, took my money, and are holding my prescription hostage to come in for another visit. Don't waste your time here. Reasonably priced exam. Dr. Sanchez is thoughtful and informative. Great local business. Keep the Mission real.

Dr. Sanchez is really the best eye doctor I've been to. She takes her time, explains everything to you, answers all questions in an extremely intelligent and also straightforward way, and makes the whole eye exam experience comfortable and easy. I moved away from the city but still come back to see her whenever I'm visiting and due for a new checkup. The best! read more

Avoid this place. Rude service. Condescending provider. Frames selection is super limited, so you won't want to buy them from there anyway and they won't be nice to you once they learn you're not planning to buy frames from them. read more

This is a wonderful place! Hands down the BEST service I have ever received at an Optometrists office (and I've been wearing glasses since 7 years old!) Mary is a gem! She spent a lot of time working to get my insurance to cover my glasses when they were being very difficult. I have a very narrow face and have a lot of trouble finding glasses that don't swallow my face. They have a great selection and I was able to find a super pair that make me look much more intelligent than I actually am. I will go here for all my glasses and eye appointments from now on. No reason to go anywhere else when you've found the best! read more

I've been coming to this place for several years now and Dr. Sanchez is incredibly professional and thorough. She is not the sort of doctor who cuts corners. I am a terminally ill person with numerous health issues including Glaucoma. I have Medicare and MediCal. I am on Soc.Sec. / fixed income. I was told I needed $40.00 for the exam that I brought with me. I needed a contact lens exam that was not covered. Because of my low income I qualify for assistance with medical bills. I asked if they could bill me for the exam ( I have to have an actual bill to get the assistance) - Dr. Sanchez would have been paid directly -not wait for payment from me. I was REFUSED billing even after explaining my circumstances. I found the experience humiliating and callous. Dr. Sanchez heard my conversation with the receptionist - she never Looked at me Once, and she Never Greeted or Spoke to me. Dr. Ruby Sanchez gets 5 stars because she is an extremely caring, professional, skilled optometrist. The staff is very accommodating, speaking both Spanish and English, they take credit cards and are very good with scheduling. I saw a strong selection of designer frames for men and women which was also good. The office is a bit small and intimate, I hear they plan to expand. I've been to many Optometrist offices throughout the Bay and LA areas and must say this is the absolute BEST experience I have ever had! Dr Sanchez is a rock star! 5 Stars! As for the exam, she was meticulous in her approach, expertly walking my through and explaining the various procedures, all while going out of her way to make sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process. With such an awesome assortment of frames it was easy to select a pair, with her help, that were reasonable, stylish and comfortable. In just a few days I had my new pair of glasses, and she absolutely nailed my prescription! All in all, you can tell Dr. Sanchez really cares about her patients and the work she does, as she treats everyone with the utmost kindness, respect, and professionalism. I was here to see Dr. Sanchez who was very kind to me and explained everything perfectly. She answered all of my questions and made my overall experience in her office great. I especially love how knowledgeable her staff is. Elda was wonderful at explaining exactly how my insurance coverage works, and I got the feeling that the staff here were looking to get me the best deal they could; not to milk me for all my money. Another thing I noticed and loved about this office was that the staff are all bilingual and will take the time to explain things to Spanish speakers in their language if they need it. Aside from the customer service, this place has a wide selection of frames from European brands I'd never even heard of! I love how quirky some of their frames are, and how they have something for every budget. read more

This place was recommended by one of my closest friends ! She said it was a good place. Well let me tell you something, I went for a usual appointment I was expecting to last at least 30/45 minutes. But it only lasted 10mins !! What type of appointment was that. I'm use to having an eye exam where they're not rushed. They usually take pictures of the inside of your eye well they did that but doctors usually let you see the picture and explains to you hows it going. Especially for a first timer in your office. After I was done with the 10 minutes appointment I wanted to order contacts, I went ahead and ordered she gave me a month of tryouts. They use a brand that I've never heard of so I they were uncomfortable so I called them and the receptionist was unable to help me because she couldn't answer a simple question. I went back to get a tryouts of the dailies because according to dr. Ruby I had extra dry eyes. She gave me to try for two days. A few days passed and I was not happy with the brand she had given me. I called to ask a question about their return policy and the receptionist couldn't answer that simple questions. I just needed a yes or no answer but she couldn't give me that. Their customer service is horrible and the price range for their basic and pathetic service is ridiculously high. So before you go and waste time here do your research and look for a better place !! read more
