I've gone here for nearly ten years, along with my husband and father but am so fed up with Stampers practices over the last few years around scheduling. I just spent weeks of back and forth messaging with their scheduling team over email, they collected my latest insurance, and inquired about what days I can come in. Two months of messages later of this back and forth they ask if I'll be buying glasses there, and when I say no THEN they say they don't have available slots until March 2027, 6 months later. Clearly they only want to see patients that will buy marked up glasses here and aren't prioritizing optometry care. Husband had similar separate experience. read more

Great clinical care, but customer service policies have shifted. I've been coming here for 13 years and have bought probably 15 pairs of glasses over more than a decade, so I have a lot of history with this business. (Recommended most of my friends too) The clinical side is still very strong. The eye doctor was incredibly nice, professional, and gave a thorough, quick exam. However, most of the staff is new now. While most of them are great, the technician who took the initial photos of my eyes could have done a better job slowing down and explaining what to expect, especially with the air-puff machine. My main disappointment is with the optical shop's new policies. I used to be able to order a different frame color to try on before committing to a purchase. Now, there is a strict deposit rule. While I understand that businesses get burned by people ordering frames and not buying them, it was shocking to feel like a 13-year loyal relationship didn't mean anything to the business. It's a bummer, and because of the policy shift, I'll likely be looking for a new optical shop for my next pair. read more

Two stars because the people here are nice enough but this place is definitely set up as a sales-focused operation. Unfortunately, I am realizing it after the fact, but the frames they sold me are some weird house brand (despite my insurance giving me a healthy allowance for frames and advertising for familiar eyewear brands all over the store). There was no mention of course during the selection process that it was a house brand that they were offering me. Now that I'm wearing them, they're pretty flimsy. There are so many optometrists in the city! Next year I'm going to look for one that doesn't remind me of the adage: "buyer beware." read more

I've been going to Dr. Stamper since I was little and now I'm in my 50s. We moved to the East Bay and can't find any place that has the variety of glassess that they do. My daughter found a pair of Tory Burch glasses that she insited that she had to have but unforunately it was with an out of network. I emailed them to see if they had them. The process was super easy. I e-mailed them the model number and prescription. I was able to place the order online and pay for them over the phone. Super happy with their service and extra excited that they part of my network. I think I have to make the drive next time and get my glasses from them again. read more

Insanely bad customer service and a completely avoidable problem. One star because zero stars not provided as an option. I had an extremely disappointing experience with Stamper Optometry, and the level of customer service I received from Ana, Isabella, and the office manager was unacceptable. Stamper provided me with three separate prescriptions. I filled one of them elsewhere, and as soon as I tried on the glasses, I experienced immediate discomfort and knew something was wrong. I called Stamper thinking this would be an easy fix. I simply wanted to make sure I had a complete and accurate prescription, including any measurements needed to order glasses properly. Instead of helping, Ana immediately blamed the business where I had the prescription filled. During that conversation, I learned that the prescription Stamper gave me was missing the PD measurement, which is obviously important if someone is trying to order glasses correctly. I asked if I could come in to have any missing measurements taken so I could avoid paying for another incorrect pair of glasses. That was it. I was not asking for a refund. I was not arguing about the glasses I had already purchased. I was asking for the information Stamper should have provided in the first place. Ana refused to focus on the actual issue and kept redirecting blame to the outside business. Then Isabella took over the call and did the exact same thing--more blame, no solution, and no willingness to schedule a quick follow-up to correct an incomplete prescription. What makes this even more ridiculous is that Stamper sells glasses, so they clearly have the equipment and ability to take the necessary measurements when it benefits them. But when I asked them to provide the missing information so I could use my prescription properly, suddenly that was a problem. The office manager was no better. She did not ask how she could help, did not listen, and did not attempt to resolve a very simple issue. I eventually told them I would come to the office in person because I thought maybe face-to-face communication would help. It didn't. They still refused. This was a simple customer service issue that could have been resolved in minutes. Instead, I dealt with three different staff members who were dismissive, unhelpful, and more interested in blaming someone else than fixing Stamper's own incomplete paperwork. After this experience, I looked more closely at Stamper's reviews and saw that there are 70+ negative reviews. After dealing with them myself, I understand why. I would never return to this business, and I would strongly caution anyone considering it. You are trusting them with your vision, your money, and your personal information. The staff here are very friendly but unfortunately I'm not sure you can trust that you're getting the best and most cost effective option. I came here a while ago to get my first ever contact lenses fitted and learned that I have abnormal astigmatism, which I was told absolutely had to be addressed with special custom lenses (through specialeyes; there's another review on here that mentions these as well). I took the folks here at their word that the custom lenses were necessary, even though they were twice the price of standard lenses and they never felt super comfortable. Over the course of a year I reordered these multiple times since they kept tearing as well -- so the cost really added up! Fast forward to now... I've moved and have a new optometrist. They weren't familiar with specialeyes and asked if I had tried some more standard lenses. I said no, my previous doctor insisted that there was no point because they would never work. The new optometrist suggested we give them a shot with some trial lenses, which they already had on hand. It turns out they actually are way more comfortable and I don't have as many issues with them rotating. They're also half the price, partially covered by my vision insurance, and now I have lenses I can change out every 2 weeks (instead of every 3 months). It's possible this was a simple mistake! But I can't help but feel that I might have saved a lot of money, and had a better experience with more comfortable contact lenses, if I had asked for a second opinion. read more

I initially gave 3 stars because it was like pulling teeth to get an itemized receipt from them. They did finally provide after my initial review. I'm not sure why this is such an issue as an itemized receipt should accompany every purchase. Anyway. My review of the shop itself. I really like this place. I am comfortable with the doctor. I believe I worked with him 3 years ago and like the information he shares and comparing my last exam to this one. I will continue to keep coming back- and asking for an itemized receipt! Haha Last time I had my glasses made with them I brought my own frames and I was really happy with how long the lenses lasted. I had gotten a pair from Warby Parker prior and you would think they had been dragged by a car there were so many scratches within 2 years. So I'm back at Stamper and bought frames from them which I should be getting soon and I do know I will be happy with them. read more

My primary care doctor, first, referred me to an opthamologist, a vision medical doctor; for specifics of my eye health, not provided by optometrists. I, then, researched half a dozen optometrists from different sources, listed on my VSP insurance coverage. Per my zip code, nearby optometrists were listed from the results. With attention to additional coverage for those listed as VSP Premier Edge. Stamper Optometrists was on the list. I researched Stampers on Yelp and other sources from my websearch. Overall reviews were outstanding. And I can confirm that from my first appointment experience, this week. The optometrist and staff were all so professional, friendly, helpful, patient, and more. Stamper Optometry carries a large selection of eyeglass frames. Their websites lists them all. Some at their office, others they can order. I selected 7 or 8 brands and their frame styles. I websearched each brand. With filters, I tailored my search for my selective attributes. So I could compare the styles. Some were even listed on Amazon, as well as, chain optometry businesses. The optometrist provided me with other options, at their office, too. With my optometrist, he detailed my VSP coverage areas and applicable discounts. He made some recommedations, for the lens features. I did upgrades that I felt would better benefit me, in the long run. The total cost, with the coverage, was very fair. Almost half of what I previously paid at an optometry chain. Stamper Optometry's location is less than a mile from me. It was a nice, healthy walk. For those who drive, there's the Mission-Bartlett garage public parking. Just around the corner from 21st Street. So potential patient customers, from other areas, can conventiently go to Stamper Optometry. I give Stamper Optometry a well-deserved, high-5, rating! read more

I love this place!! From setting the appointment, to pre-appt communication, and all the way thru purchasing my glasses (and leaving happy I did something healthy for my eyesight)! The receptionist greeted me immediately. She was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Pre-appointment tests were quick and comfortable. Dr Golden was the BEST! It was my first appt with him but he made me feel comfortable right away. He took time to talk about important elements, conducted the tests, and explained the results clearly and thoroughly (really great!). Next was purchasing my new glasses. I have bern coming to Dr. David's office for over ten years for my optometric needs and brought my family. I veered from the path, saw an office in Palo Alto and the results were so disappointing that VSP refunded me for new glasses after coming back. I recently saw a great Optometrist on the Peninsula (much easier parking) and the refraction was way off. (Obvious even to me). Not to speak of the messy store in San Carlos. So save yourself some hassle and time and get an appointment- if you can get one. read more
