I've been to this place several times and just love it. Sometimes a little salty for my taste, but the meat is always great and the sides change around so you always have a surprise waiting for you. I walked in with my wife expecting, admittedly, nothing good, from a chain restaurant. But after a sampler platter, I changed my mind for sure! I am an amateur pitmaster myself and have a reputation for some excellent bbq. My favorite bbq was A Fine Swine, until they closed due to the pandemic. At that point I pretty much gave up on bbq, as Springfield has only one bbq worth mentioning. But today I changed my mind and found the fare at Mission to be at a B on my list, as I am chincy with my grade of A. Only two bbq guys have my A. So while B may not sound like much, it puts Mission at some of the highest levels of bbq in the region. One would have to travel to Texas to find places comparable. [Memphis is good, too, but not to my standards]. So, glad to have you here in Springfield. I will recommend you to as many as I can. Individual ratings: Spare ribs -- straight-up A; Brisquit -- straight-up A; Cole slaw -- C [tweak it a bit with sugar and vinegar and it will be A] Cheesy potatoes -- straight-up A+ [best I have had!] Pulled pork -- C [a little on the dry side, but with a bit of tweaking, it would be an A]; Best sauce: Tupelo Honey Heat, but this is a matter of taste. read more

A MAZ ING !!! We got Togo from here tonight. We got brisket sliced turkey and pulled chicken. All were delicious. Moist full of smoked flavor. The cole slaw was underwhelming however kind of needed bc everything else was deliciously rich. The baked beans were amazing as were the cheesey seasonal potatoes. The chopped brisket sandwich is piled HIGH with brisket. The bun is fresh and stands up to the cue... doesn't get soggy and runny. The mac n cheese was tremendous. So, we have a young son who cannot yet be vaccinated against COVID-19, which means we are still being cautious about eating indoors and often call in orders or order online and pick up food for at-home dining during peak hours. We did this last night at Mission BBQ. We had never eaten here before, and I was having a bit of trouble with the online ordering options, so I called in and talked with Cody. Every restaurant or business in general should have Cody working for them. This kiddo was amazing. Pleasant, helpful, insightful about the food and offerings. He recommended sauces based on what I had liked in the past, and even added an extra sauce for me to try that I didn't order (this ended up being my favorite). He took his time with helping me place a large order for my family and really made the experience easy and enjoyable. The food was wonderful as well, still hot and tasty (& we had a 20 minute drive home). Nothing was missing or sub-standard. I can't wait to go back and try some more of the delicious sauces and sides. Blecchh!! I didn't know i was walking into an environment of patriotism and the ignorant southerners. The whole place is heavily decorated with pro-veteran decor mixed with lots of cute southern slang about the BBQ. I had the pulled pork sandwich. Went in to order food for a meeting I was having in a few days and the manager and the staff said oh just come in the day before to get what you need so we did that. I bought 6 huge pans of meat 2 of mac and cheese and 1 of baked beans. I told them we would be in to get it at 10:30am the following day for a meeting that was starting at 11 on the other side of town and that was perfect they said. I sent my mother in to pick it up and the manager was a complete asshole and it was not ready until 11 he is lucky that she did not get his name or I would file a complaint with the company! The food is very good, probably the best brisket I've ever had. It is HEAVILY veteran and military based so if those things bother you, I would avoid. The staff greeted us immediately when we walked in and the young man working the register was very nice and walked us through the menu since we were first timers. The older woman who I'm unsure was the manager or owner was also very sweet and attentive. We went for lunch about 11 sharp. Another reviewer mentioned they felt uncomfortable because they are a gay dem, and I'm not invalidating their experience, but so am I/my partner(I'm female) and my experience wasn't anything like theirs. But we're also ex-military so we were familiar with the environment which could be shocking if you are not since as I mentioned before, the decor and theme is very heavy military, to the point it kind of feels like a VFW lol but if you don't care about that, it's some amazing BBQ and big serving sizes. read more

Date of visit 4/3/21 at about 5 pm. Self service must be the new standard in the restaurant industry now. I must say I'm not a fan. Had to stand in line for about 10 minutes before we reached counter to order. After order waited about another 10 minutes before food was ready. Mission appears to do great carry out business as there were always about 6-8 customers at the end of counter or standing in front of the self-service drinks. Those of us dining in then had to wade through the crowd to get our food. Wife had the 5 bone spare ribs, baked beans and cheesy potatoes. She liked everything the only problem being the ribs were only luke warm. I had the 5 bone St Louis ribs, beans and coleslaw.
