Don't ever go to this place for food, they service is the worst I have ever come across to, the waitress was rude the whole entire time, to not only every single person in our table but also the table next to us, I was shocked to see how they deal with customers there and if you ask to speak with the manager they will tell you to get up and leave. You can't share plates, it is mandatory that you spend a certain amount of money per person and the food you order and expect is not always what you are looking for. Miss favela has been on our list for a while, people have always raved about the live music and dancing here, we checked the schedule and saw that they have a live samba band on Saturdays at 2pm. We made a reservation online for 1:30 and when we got there we were greeted by the hostess and sat right away. Our server was very nice and made sure we had everything we needed with a pleasant smile and attitude. The menu is huge, there's everything from salads, appetizers to full entrees, the drink menu is huge as well, many different flavors of caipirinhas, beer, wine, etc. We ordered traditional, kiwi and mango caipirinhas, all were strong and tasty. As far as food, we started with the corn appetizer, which is similar to Mexican street corn, we thought they were the perfect appetizer, well seasoned but not salty, for entrees my fiancé has the chicken milenesa and I got the shredded beef sautéed with collard greens and rice and beans, all the food was good, we enjoyed everything, make sure you ask for the hot sauce but just know that it's no joke, it's really spicy but very flavorful, the band started playing just before 2:30, the music was really good, one thing to note is that even before the band went on the music was already very loud, so don't come here if you want a quiet experience, having been to Brazil when I entered the restaurant I did feel like I was back there, my fiancé can vouch for this place having an authentic feel, once the music started the place got packed but luckily for us we were already done, so we stayed for a little while but then left, the reason this place loses a star is because of the cash only thing in the year 2019! It's crazy that they don't accept cards, I did my research and did have plenty of cash on me but I was a little annoyed by that, overall it's a nice spot, I would come back to hear some other kinds of live music as well. read more

Being that this place has an average rating of 3 stars I wasn't expecting too much but honestly I had a great experience. I have passed by here many many times and have seen people outside in the warmer months drinking and dancing. I had already predetermined what I was going to oder by looking at the pictures so I decided to go with the Costela Miss Favela Com Polenta (braised short rib w/ yucca puree). Man was that dish good. The flavors were on point and very rich. We also had the Bife Acebolado (Pan-fried steak with onions served with rice, beans, farofa and fries). The steak was delicious, the rice & beans were good, everything was just fantastic. To add to that I don't remember the name but the cocktail that I had was wonderful as well. It was a fruity rum drink topped with champagne, amazing. That particular night they had a live band which was loud but nice. This place gets filled on weekends but let me tell you, it is NOT worth it. Go to a different place. You'll have better service, food, and price. We came to Miss Favela's on a Friday night and had reservations made from over a week prior and the table was not ready until 1.5 hours later. The host said because the restaurant gets filled, it was too difficult to find us a table. I think in cases like these, restaurant should not take reservations from the start. It's misleading. Let me talk about the price now. We were in a group of ten people and ordered 4 pitchers of margaritas. It wasn't that great but it filled 6-7 small cups per pitcher. We ordered two appetizers for the table - which is a reasonable amount - and about six of us ordered one entree and the rest of us just ordered a side. The total came out to be $700. That's $70/person. Tip was included but trust me, we did NOT eat $70 worth nor did we receive service that automatically was included in that. We found out that each pitcher was $55. How in the world did that happen - pitchers are usually between $20-$30 max but this was $55. It wasn't even that great. The food was not that good - the best thing that was a consensus to all of us was the corn ($9) and everything else was subpar. If I were to pay $70, I would have gone to a place with better service, better food and better experience. This was a pretty disappointing experience overall. read more

Soooo fun! I came with friends on a Saturday night. We didn't eat, just went to the bar and got a pitcher of Caipirinha. The bartender was very generous with the alcohol and the drinks were great. I always a fan of Miss Favela, but this time I was disappointed! A reservation was made for my bday. Unfortunately, my friends were late due to heavy traffic. The owner asked me to give up my table for other guests and he would arrange another table when my friends arrived, I COMPLIED. While my friends arrived one at a time, he approached me and said "DON'T LIE TO ME, WHEN ARE THEY COMING BECAUSE I NEED TO MOVE ON!". Within 5 min after he yelled at me, all my friends arrived. I told him "see I didn't lie to you!" He responded my cursing at me "They're f***** late!". My husband asked for a chair, he wanted my husband to beg him for a chair. My friend asked for a table so he could sit and eat comfortably, he told him "this is what you get!" Our drinks were poorly made, the bartenders didn't even stir the drinks. We tried to be cooperative and polite to the waiters (and owner), but some treated us poorly after the interaction with the owner, with the exception of 1 waiter that saved our night! For a party of 7 people, our bill was over $500, so we were good paying customers with the intentions of having a good time with good food and drinks. In the end, shots were served on the house, but that didn't help make up for the disappointment we went through. We ended up eating a few appetizers and going somewhere else where we were treated better. I came here from February to mid April and it was amazing!!!!! I took a break because I traveled and had family in town and started coming back again in May and its been awful every time! All of the sudden everyone is new and the service SUCKS!!!!! The beer is always HOT and it takes forever and the servers are now American and don't speak portuguese. Went here in the early afternoon on a Wednesday. It was totally empty and I have no idea why. I dined outside on a beautiful day and got the Vegetariano. I cannot praise this dish enough. It was incredibly flavorful and had wonderful variety between the egg, the fried banana and the roasted vegetables. Every bite of this dish was an absolute treat. I loved it. If I lived here, I would absolutely be a regular here. The cook was very attentive and checked on us a couple times (admittedly this may not necessarily happen if it were more busy, but it was still very nice). I highly recommend this place. The place has specials but unfortunately I wasn't there at the right time to enjoy it. The hosts and waiters are very kind. The seating was a little small and close which was a little unusual since I can hear everything my neighbors were taking about. It was a little annoying but since there was live music it grabbed my attention more. Also, since this is small space prepare for very loud music. It's not a place to come for intimate conversation. Came here on a Sunday with brunch reservations on a Sunday for 1:30pm. The restaurant was mostly empty, and the tables were already prepared for our party of 10. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very fun and unique! It's a small, cash-only, Brazilian restaurant with unique traditional dishes, Americanized dishes, and even some vegetarian options! I ordered the vegetariano, and similar to other reviews, it's basically a combination of side dishes. The entire dish could've used more seasoning, but the portion was overall generous. This dish includes grilled veggies, rice and beans, a fried egg, collard green, and a fried banana. I wish they put 2 eggs in the dish to make it more filling. I also tried the corn with Parmesan cheese- DELICIOUS! Definitely would come back and get these again. Disappointed that the restaurant didn't have any bread available. One of the waiter sat our party on a table because we have a reservation until a waitress came to the table and told me "leave I need this table" so I called the waiter and he told her that we have a reservation. We ordered and our dinner was served. The duration of our dinner the said waitress has been coming over and keep telling us that we have to hurry because she needs the table and when I tried to talk to the manager he came to our table gave us our check and told us to leave. I am a fan of moqueca and i will say, theirs is legit. extremely tasty & i highly recommend it. The dinosaur looking short-rib is EXCELLENT. I am a fan of fatty bits (it also adds flavour to the sauce) and the beef was shredding/cutting soft w the yucca pure, it was VERY TASTY. the pitchers of caipirinhas crack me up and they are good. strong (for me). sweet for me. i like it sweet. The appetizer mix w mini beef empanada (YES), a lamb type kefta (YES), mini empanada cheese (YES), a fried ball of shredded reddish chicken (YES), the fried cheese ball that felt like a fried mochi was ok...but everything else was fantastic. I didn't try other main dishes, but judging by their food I would easily come back and try other dishes EARLIER. I get it people like to party & they party hard...the only down side was that the space if tight and can get loud and bumpy. My mistake to come a little late (8:30p), I'll show up at 4p for an early bird dinner. I feel like a senior citizen afterall. This establishment has been here for YEARS. I have never seen a restaurant where they sneak in a 30% gratuity onto the bill for a party of 3 just in case the (often inebriated) customers won't notice and pay up. I've lived and traveled extensively all over Brazil and have been mugged by street hoodlums many times, but never lost as much money as I would have in Miss Favela had I not examined their bill with the IPhone's flashlight app to check their math. The loud and often lousy "live music" is good for tourists. In warm weather you can try sitting outside if you want to be able to hear someone across the table, but beware that the live music "fee" is also applied on to outside tables. This place is a total shit show. Through and through. I went two times to give it a shot because I really enjoyed the decor and on a summer afternoon, the breeze blowing through the open doors was so appealing. I don't really know where to start. I guess I'll just begin with the crowd. Squawking females with blown out hair and greasy beefy boys , I swear I thought I was in the meatpacking district on a friday night waiting to get into Lotus. Next to me at the bar, was one of these couples who for a good 45 minutes were sucking SO MUCH TONGUE in my face I nearly barfed, but I didn't because I didn't get a chance to eat there. First we ordered some Caparinhas, and within the first taste something was terribly off. I dont' expect fine liquor to be used in the drink since it's most lime and sugar, but everyone sort of spit up their drinks in their napkins and realized the lazy bartender hadn't squeezed or muddled ANY of the limes, so we all spent a few minutes fishing out all the lime pieces and hand squeezing them ourselves. HIGHLY annoying.... The noise of the crowd was so loud and the waiter kept saying another 20 minutes (we were there 90 minutes waiting) finally we left and went to Marlow and Sons Stupidly I went back to try it again on a less crowded evening. Equally as cheesy crowd, the limes were again not crushed, and this time I had the food. Bland, unseasoned dreck. I found a hair in my food. While I've never been to Brazil if someone says I don't "get it" and it's "super authentic" than I don't want to try to "real stuff" but I sure have had wondeful brazilian dining experiences in the past. The food is GOD awful.. The cook is not a trained chef, She's a Brazilian home cook type. Still unable to cook for a restaurant.The staff is amazing but the owners hire and fire faster than you can get accustomed to. The caipirinas are super strong which forces you to eat the horrible food. The owner, an old french guy with the long wavy hair is always drunk and makes a pass at anything with a heartbeat. His wife stands at the bar and intimidates the Bartenders, waitresses and bussers.
