Food Review: Miss Carter's Place -- A Very Disappointing Experience I truly wanted to enjoy this restaurant, but my experience at Miss Carter's Place was extremely disappointing from beginning to end. My party arrived at 5:00 PM--my sister, husband, and I. We ordered water first. Only my sister and I received ours; the rest of the table never received their water, despite the waitress promising to bring it right out. That set the tone for the rest of the evening. Service Delays We placed our food order at 6:10 PM, more than an hour after arrival. It took another hour and ten minutes just to receive basic drinks. We ordered chicken wings as an appetizer, yet they took nearly an hour to arrive. When they finally reached the table, no utensils or napkins were provided. It left us wondering whether my husband was expected to eat with his hands and wipe them on his clothes. Food Quality & Incorrect Orders The entrées took over two hours to arrive. My husband's chicken cheesesteak was completely wrong. It came without onions, tomatoes, or cheese, had only a few pieces of lettuce, and included a strange sauce we never requested. It did not resemble a cheesesteak at all. Pricing Concerns Beware of the menu pricing. There were different prices listed depending on where you looked--online, printed menus, and what was actually charged. The inconsistency is misleading and feels unprofessional. Service Issues Noticed Throughout the Restaurant During our long wait, we noticed that other customers came in, sat down, waited, and eventually left because no one ever came to serve them. That alone speaks volumes about the lack of service. It's clear the staff is overwhelmed and heavily focused on carry-out orders, leaving dine-in customers forgotten. Even items like forks and napkins took far too long to reach the table. Staff & Management Response A member of our party eventually addressed the unacceptable service. When the manager came over, she was nonchalant and dismissive, acting as if our concerns were insignificant. The owner--who is also the only cook--came upstairs but offered no real apology. Instead, she simply said she was the only cook and mentioned she would send cornbread, which did nothing to resolve the situation. Meanwhile, the bartender was acting as the bartender, host, waiter, and busser all at once--far too many roles for one person to manage. Atmosphere & Facilities The restaurant is small, and the dining area filled with smoke from the downstairs cooking. We needed somewhere to eat before we attended a play. After the TikTok videos enticed my girls they chose this place. I'm very skeptical about soul food and tiktok suggestions. Mind you We drove an hour plus from Gaithersburg just to get in the restaurant and the young lady behind the bar said they weren't seating any guests because they had a party coming in at 6pm. We arrived at 510pm. After leaving we found a near by ethiopian restaurant which turned out to be great all around. After returning to our car and driving past the restaurant at 649pm it was still empty no party. We will not be returning. Hope you all have a better experience. read more

My boyfriend and I drove from Alexandria, VA to try this place out because we love to try new foods! Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend Miss Carters Place to anyone I cared about. We placed our order via Doordash pickup at 7:20PM for a jumbo lump crab cake w/ potato salad & mac & cheese along with the honey jerk wings with the same sides. About 3 minutes later an employee called us informing us that they're out of pasta salad which we appreciated especially since they asked what we'd like to replace it with! We decided to replace them with yams and collard greens. Our pickup time was 8:07PM and we arrived around 7:42PM. My boyfriend went inside at 8PM to inform them he was there. I was told the space was extremely small with no hostess or check-out stand along with no one being at the front to great you. He had to go to the bar which was full to speak to the employee behind the counter. We got our food at 8:56PM. The mac n cheese was extremely cheesy... but that's about it. The collard greens came straight from the can and the yellow rice bed for the crab cake tasted like absolutely nothing. As a Maryland girl I love me some crab and the crab cake was mostly bland with very light to little seasoning. Additionally, it's priced and advertised and a "jumbo lump" crab cake but It was nothing jumbo about it. The star of the show is the honey jerk wings for SURE! They were nice and crunchy with lots of meat, the sweetness of the honey comes first with the aftertaste of the jerk seasoning following behind. OMG! Didn't know what to expect at Miss Carter's Place. The family wanted to try a black -owned restaurant in Baltimore after grandson's basketball game. Miss Carter's Place was not our 1st choice as we had made a reservation at another resturant. However after several drive arounds trying to locate the restaurant and getting dropped calls on two different numbers, we changed gears. Ms.Carter's Place came up and we decided to go. The music was pumping when we entered. We were greeted by Amanda and immediately directed to a table. The space is small, quaint, yet inviting. We ordered appetizers and beverages. Absolutely no complaints thus far. But let me tell you about jerk chicken tacos...the Bomb.! Tender, just the right amount of heat and the crispy taco...delish! We ordered chicken wings with the Korean BBQ and Sweet Chili sauces. Let me tell you...I'm still licking my fingers typing this review. Now although I didn't have any of the lemonade beverages, the rest of the family said the drinks were very good and ordered seconds. We are now ready for our meals........I can't express how delicious the main dishes looked with their sides . I couldn't wait to dig into my smothered turkey wings, collards and candid yams. The food was great! We had the catfish dinner. I tried the one with lemon pepper which was my favorite over the plain. The mac and cheese was creamy and the broccoli had a lot of flavor. Definitely southern comfort food. I would get it again. The greens were okay. The had more flavors not listed on their website, so I would recommend calling to see what flavors are before placing your order. The service could be better. Crab cakes were good, not too much filler but also not that much lump. Yams were good but super sweet. Broccoli was good not too buttery or salty. Rice was okay, a bit dry. Crab cake and shrimp wrap was good but there weren't a lot of lettuce and tomatoes and it had a lot of sauce. Please do not eat at this restaurant. There was only two other tables in the restaurant when I came in, and I waited an hour for my food. The young lady that was serving was ghetto. Place was dark, with no lights on the table. I had to read the menu with my phone. Sanitation was poor. The music they had all kept skipping because of a Bluetooth connection. After seeing the social media post I made the trip from the DMV to B'More to check it out for myself. Went on a Wednesday evening no problem getting a table as most patrons who came into the restaurant were picking up take out orders. Nice casual dining ambiance with more of a lounge/cigar bar sort of feel. With R&B music emanating from the speakers couldn't help but to feel as though this is definitely a cool vibe happy hour spot on Friday nights. Ordered the old bay flavored catfish nuggets/fries and jerk chicken tacos for appetizers. Let me tell y'all something... them nuggets came out crispy, hot and flavorful! The jerk tacos were bursting with flavor had me licking my fingers. We ordered the crab cake with sides of collards and mac & cheese. CRAB CAKE was on point!! I was watching YouTube and Darius Cooks video of when he visited this place popped up. I'm greedy, and not far from the restaurant so i said let's go lol It was dead as hell in there on a Saturday at like 3pm. There were two ladies at the bar and the bartender. My first thought was this ain't a good sign lol. It's also very dark inside. Chopped fish wrap- it was good asf. My son didn't want to order it, so I told him he can have half just to try it ....I lied lol. This is a must try imo Broccoli- i wasn't expecting much bc Darius was like blah. But i enjoyed it, well seasoned Collards- Idk what they originally tasted like bc I added vinegar off the top. So idk if they were originally good or good bc of my vinegar. Fried catfish. I appreciate the prices were small. Sometimes catfish piece's are huge and slimy. Idk if there's were bc i popped them in the air fryer before even trying them. I like what i like lol. They were also well seasoned. What i didn't like what it came with two pieces of bread that were wet. Probably from the heat. I prefer my bread wrapped separately, no one likes soggy bread Mac and cheese- now this needs work. It was dry. Not horrible but out of everything i tired this was the only miss. Ok, this is my second time eating here and I like food. For this order I've only had some sips of the Watermelon Lemonade and 1 piece of the white bread that was under my fish... I'm going to be COMPLETELY honest and to the point. I found this place on TikTok, and of course on social media it looks very appealing. Sad to say I was CATFISHED. I visited this place around 4 pm, very small intimate place. The inside was completely dark and dim, with the sun out I didn't like that. Could barely see the menus. Sides are 9$ When The bartender pours regular lemonade in a cup and pours blue dollar tree syrup in it. The Mac and cheese was $9 and GOD AWFUL. Tasted like frozen stouffers maccoroni in liquid cheese sauce. No seasoning at all. No bake. The yellow rice tasted like minute rice in a microwave, NO FLAVOR. The chicken Alfredo was so underwhelming. And flavorless. None of the food seemed fresh off a stove or grill. Everything seemed warmed up. Nothing at our table came out at the same time. We had to eat at separate times. Because the place became crowded, there's only 1 waiter. Took forever to get the food, forever to get a check. Only thing that was decent were the wings. (Nobody can mess up wings). The vibe was not there the music was on and off, it was uncomfortable sitting to eat with a bunch of people standing around in a small setting waiting on to go orders. I patronized this business and paid via cash app. A couple of months later, I made an honest mistake and sent the owner $40. I reached out on IG immediately to let her know the mistake. She would not send it back and I can't respect that character flaw. I will never patronize anything that is attached to this woman's name. My husband and I dined in during our short trip from NYC and the food was really good. The food was GREAT portions. The ambiance was cute. I had lamb chops which came with rice, and my sides were mac and cheese and broccoli. Hubby had lump stuffed salmon (which is crabmeat +salmon) with rice, mac and cheese and the potato salad. Besides the long wait for take out it's very aesthetic, the place is gorgeous. The food is OK not top-tier but it's doable.

If you have 45 minutes to wait to get your food, then this is the place for you. There were 3 other couples in the restaurant when we arrived, 2 of the couples already had their food and were eating. The 3rd couple had already orders and was waiting patiently. We were told 15-20 minutes for tacos and fries...I thought that was a bit excessive, but ok. After 30 minutes of waiting the 3rd couple finally got their food. They also had time to eat all of their food and leave before we even received ours. My husband went to the counter to ask about our order and was told it should be out shortly and that he would go check on it. Needless to say, there was no sense of urgency in him going to check on our order, nor anyone else that was working. After another 15 minutes we finally got our food. The tacos were not tacos at all....more like quesadillas. They were decent, nothing to brag about. The fries were definitely being kept warm. They were not fresh by any means. The ambiance was very plain and the music, however, was very upbeat, was way too loud. Difficult to hold a conversation with others at the table. Not a place we will ever visit again. read more
