This smallish restaurant is nestled in a large shopping center with plenty of parking on a private lot. I arrived at noon when they opened and were still setting up for the day. There was a bench available to sit and wait until the staff was prepared to take orders. It took maybe 10 minutes for them to be ready. The ambience is nice, clean and modern. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered take out. Fish, green beans and rice. My order was prepared in about 15 minutes and remained hot during my commute back to my office. Ever was really good. The fish was fresh, seasoned well and it was tasty. I've had carryout from here twice and never have eaten inside Their service is slow. I called in an order, told the wait would be 20 minutes, and did not receive the food until over an hour later. The first time I ordered here the sides on the fish platter were so salty that I couldn't eat them. Salt was the only thing I could taste. The salt from the sides could've been used more in the fish. The fish was ok. I enjoyed the chicken & waffles the first time I ordered so I decided to give them another try. The chicken & waffles were also good the second time. I really enjoy their waffles. You don't even need syrup for them. I also order a turkey wing platter on my second visit. The sides were not salty this time but weren't just ok. This was an unplanned visit. Hubby wanted something to eat and we saw this in an older plaza. The menu has great variety. The venue is small with about 8 tables, a bar and waiting area. I appreciated the lunch specials which include a meat, 2 sides and a roll for under $20. We opted for the single catfish meal with yams and garlic mash potatoes. The food was great. The yams were not too sweet, the potatoes didn't taste like boxed potatoes and the fish was fried to perfection. The owner was personable and let us know they were setting up for a private event. The restaurant is small. They really need a liquor license. The food is good, the vibe is laid back. Waiting for dinner with wine or a cocktail would be a great help. It's a little pricey. Last Saturday my brother's and I threw our mom a surprise birthday party and it was great. Planning was pretty smooth once we got a handle on what was included and what we would be responsible for. During the event, the staff was amazing. The room was set up nicely with black, gold and white but we wanted to do shades of blue since that is my mom's favorite color. When my friends arrived to add the blue touches to the room, the staff was both friendly and helpful. I even found out that we could've dropped our silver charger plates off the day before so that could place them for us before we arrived. Early in the event, the manager asked when my mom was expected to arrive. She arrived 6 minutes after the time that I told her and the food was piping hot and ready to be served. They did a great job of preserving the food, keeping it hot throughout the event so that even late arrivals had hot food to eat. Any issue or concern we had the hostess had a solution for it. I planned to use my own playlist but of course my phone wouldn't cooperate but the playlist that she already had was perfect for the event. My mom was extremely happy and so was all of the guests. I've heard so much about this place and I follow them on Instagram so I decided to try them out! Ummm...DELICIOUS!! I had a taste for fried fish and I'm so glad I chose to try it from here. The fish was hot and seasoned and crispy. You don't need to add nothing to it if you don't want to. No ketchup or hot sauce and you will still be satisfied! Either way, because I love hot sauce, it was so good! The sweet potatoes were perfectly sweetened and I didn't get chunks of sweet potato that was just bland. Y'all know what I'm talking about if you try yams/sweet potatoes from different places. But I can do without the garnish getting into my sweet potatoes. The Mac and cheese did not disappoint either! It was not too runny or stiff, seasoned well, and cheesed down. It was a little oily but overall very good. I enjoyed my meal very much. I will absolutely be back. Customer service was really good. The food was delicious. Our greens and sweet tatoes weren't hot but we told the waiter and he addressed the issue. If I could have given a zero, I would have. I purchased two dinners on February 27, 2025 . One dinner consisted of chicken wings, macaroni, cheese, and string beans. The dinner was chicken wings, candied sweet potato and cabbage. Neither dinner was edible and were thrown in the trash. The cabbage and string beans were so salty it was like eating salt directly from a salt shaker. The candied sweet potatoes were barely OK. They were very dry and not a lot of flavor. The chicken was cooked so hard that you break the skin off like candy and underneath that skin you see black meat which was on the chicken. Let's start with the owner-his personality is so big and very welcomed that you feel the love as soon as you walked in the door. The establishment smelled so delicious I was confused on just what to order...LOL! I had two meals the Rasta Pasta and the Jerk Chicken meal. The Rasta Pasta was seasoned and in my opinion melted in my mouth. It was accompanied by the garlic mashed potatoes and buttered cabbage. Raves: 1. This is some bomb bomb soul food they are pushing out over at the black owned and operated reserve restaurant. They make the best fall off the bone smothered turkey wings around. The honey old bay crab stuffed salmon entree is worth every bit of its $30 price point. If you don't feel like frying fish at home but find yourself craving some, this is your spot for fried flounder or whiting! The macaroni and cheese and candied yams and buttered cabbage are all so good and the jerk chicken is really good too. Let the reserve restaurant knock out your Sunday dinner when you don't feel like making the delicious soul food spread they have. 2. They're BYOB, too? Don't mind if I do!!! Bring your own bar! Mix your own libations & pour your own mimosas from your own bottle(s). 3.They offer a station with self serve ice water, iced tea, lemonade, and I think I saw some kind of punch with plastic cups you also retrieve yourself to pour your own drinks if you've brought in bottles. Calling in to get an afternoon reservation is easy and quick to do at this quaint little spot located in the corner of a strip mall. They even have a grass wall back drop right outside for you to take pictures with and the location is able to be booked in advance for private events, which would be best ideal for an intimate birthday affair. Rants: 1. I realize you can't typically make things like turkey wings, macaroni & cheese, collard greens, jerk chicken etc fresh to order and theirs is served from buffet style pans likely previously made in the morning or night before which is fine... BUT.... It needs to reach diners hot, and did not. All of the aforementioned items arrived to our table room temperature or cold and when sent back, had the server's thumb and fingers in the food being taken to the kitchen to be reheated which was largely disappointing. 2. The chairs, table tops, floors, and plastic menus were all extremely sticky which sometimes occurs in locations that frequently deep fry food items, but whatever the case may be, the surfaces need to be thoroughly cleaned and degreased regularly. I could hear each step I took with the grease on my shoes lifting from the floors and the arms of the chairs being so sticky was very off putting which could have been being addressed by the staff that had no customers when my party arrived. Instead of standing around, the employees could have been thoroughly wiping and scrubbing the surfaces menus, furniture, and floors down. 3. Gnats and flies accompanying sticky surfaces, greasy furniture, and greasy floors make it hard to enjoy the nice lounge style furniture, cute photo back drop, and delicious cuisine the reserve has to offer. Having to wave away & constantly be swatting at flies to enjoy a meal is disturbing and makes me inclined to say this place would be best suited strictly for carryout once they better address the rants above. Thought I'd try this place since the ratings appeared to be good. Ordered the Turkey wings, Mac n cheese, greens and a side of yams. While the food was hot it was just "palatable". Let's start with the Turkey wings that was not accompanied with any gravy nor rice which I was told came with it, the seasoning was there however, it was clumped on top and not rubbed in therefore leaving a very strong cumin taste. I enjoyed the greens and mac n cheese although the noodles were over cooked therefore making it mushy. The yams were just disappointing with a strong scent and taste of nutmeg that captures you as soon as you open the container. First let me say I'm always supporting BOB!! Ok got that out to the way. We booked a table for 3 for brunch super excited for a birthday celebration until I got there. First the restaurant is a converted store front which they did not do a great job with converted the room. The tables were made out of cardboard and the chairs were basically lawn chairs. The plates were plastic and there was a steam table where you are to get up from the cardboard table and get food plopped on your plate like you in the cafeteria. We immediately discussed with the owner that we weren't happy with the atmosphere and he suggested that we utilize the lounge space. The lounge space had paper covering the windows, there was a window in between the store front restaurant and the lounge area to where they would then proceed to serve the food and drinks through the window which me as a guest had to stand at the window and pass the plastic plates of food to everyone at the fold up table the owner presented that we can eat off without a tablecloth and I had to ask him to clean the table. So basically we had to set up the table we were eating off of. Now let's talk about the food. The food looked nothing like what they presented on the website ( false advertising at its finest) the fried chicken was extremely salty, Mac and cheese no flavors and the noodles were overcooked, cabbage over cooked no flavor, collard green undercooked no flavor, chicken and waffles the syrup couldn't even combat the salty chicken, the French toast smelled amazing however no flavor not even cinnamon flavor., the fried whiting fish was fired well however it was too salty as well. The food was so bad that we tried everything in the menu and not one dish was edible. Very very disappointed for $65 per person cost doesn't matter to me as long as the atmosphere, the service and the food is on target I will pay whatever it is. Never again will I even attempt to spend my money with The Reserve. The restaurant could be great however they have a lot of work to do to get there. read more
