There really is no shortage of coffee shops in Flatbush now, since many have opened over the last several years, especially along Nostrand and on Rogers. Miski caught my eye because of its aesthetics-- minimalist beige walls with a glass case of cute pastries, decorated with what looked to be delicate buttercream. I appreciated that they were several dollars cheaper than ones you'd find at bakeries in other parts of Brooklyn, so it signaled to me they were being mindful of the neighborhood they were in. While the likes of lemon poppy cake and biski/sweet potato cake sounded good, upon closer inspection, something about the pastries told me they would not taste good. Still, I took my chances with an order of an orange anise cake. The buttercream was a sugar overload, and I scraped it off the cake, hoping the cake would be less sweet. But it was just too cloying. I ended up throwing it out, which I know is wasteful but it was so bad. I ordered a matcha latte, and the barista even double checked with me that I wanted a hot drink. I was the only customer and I watched as they proceeded to immediately make an iced drink. I was confused as they handed it to me so I asked if the iced matcha latte was someone else's drink order, since they had just double checked with me that my order was indeed for a hot matcha. They apologized, asked if I was okay with this drink. I ended up taking it because I didn't want them to waste a perfectly good drink, but the exchange was a bit off putting and odd. This is unfortunately a very cute cafe with very untasty pastries and a weird vibe so I will not be returning.

Absolutely love this new little coffee shop. I've been waiting for an aesthetically pleasing coffee shop with a decent menu moved into town. They have a wonderful selections for food and drink. The entire staff is lovely and the ambience is incredible. This is definitely where I'll be getting my morning cup of coffee from now on.

Found this new gem of a coffee shop. Peruvian coffee and food. Had the ALFAJOR LATTE, nice light creamy flavor and the egg melt. Wasn't at the top of my list of sandwiches, they make the bread themselves, but it was a bit flaky and dry, egg was a bit overcooked for my liking and could have had a bit more sauce. Came with sweet potato chips, which were really good. They had a few tasty looking pastries I'd come back to try and if definitely try more of their beverages. Large space with plenty of seating and nice service.

We made a quick stop at Miski the other day while visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday and had to go back. Today I took pics for a proper review. Celeste and Norik are the proprietors of Miski, which is a wonderful coffeehouse and bakery with Peruvian roots. They are vert kind and helpful. Miski is the Quechua word for sweet/tasty and they couldnt have chosen a better name. The couple opened the restaurant in Prospect/Lefferts Garden/East Flatbush and it's a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. The coffee is Peruvian, but locally roasted. The baked goods are off-the-charts good. The decor they chose is modern Latin American and very cool. They have great music playing softly in the background. There are a number of tables and a really comfy bench, too. This new small business is an absolute winner!

The burger was fresh, juicy, and not greasy at all just really well made. The tater tots were crispy and delicious without feeling oily, which I really appreciated. The atmosphere was just as good as the food comfy, relaxed, and full of a really nice vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy your time. On top of that, the service was amazing. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot I'd go back to!

And I gotta say, the bartender is doing work. He's the only one working and the whole place is filled up and he manages it very well. They have food and drinks, mocktails included. I love it here. It's very cozy and homey. But just remember to be courteous, that this is a business so it's okay to do work here but if you're gonna be chilling for a while make sure you're getting some drinks every hour or tipping the 'tender. Also careful with some of the hot drinks they can be really.... hot. I burnt the roof of my tongue on my hot cider drink.

You think they are going to just hand you your dreams? I don't want a treat. I didn't earn a treat. A black coffee is like running on an empty stomach. It puts you in a different mindset. Survival mode. On the hunt. I gotta earn the food. Imagine what they would say about me if they saw me drinking a dirty chai latte in the morning. Imagine what I would say about myself. I didn't earn that. I need to stay close to God. All this to say I tend to stay far away from hyped up coffee shops but my big bro wanted to hit Rhythm Zero, and he is big bro for a reason, so I obliged. I entered into a small space that feels vast. High ceilings. Minimal furniture. Huge Renaissance-style art on the walls. An environment tailor made for you to lose sight of yourself and order their $8 Coco Americana. I won't lie. I thought about it. A moment of weakness. "It's just an americano that swaps out standard water for chilled coconut water..." No. I went to the bathroom and looked myself in the mirror. COWARD! Who do you want to be? I walked out. It's not giving community coffee shop, it's giving gtfo as quick as you can. The decor and vibe just felt so off. Giving coffee shop art studio museum but in the worst way possible? Went with a friend and we both immediately felt a bad energy. The person taking our order was just a little stand off ish. We just wanted to get our drinks and get out as quick as possible. We got the blackberry matcha and a latte. You're not going for the matcha, because the matcha flavor isn't really there ~ the blackberry was fine, super sweet though. Had 3 espresso shots in the latte yet it was still somehow so watered down and had an odd aftertaste. Big yikes overall, we could've dealt with the weird pretentious vibes if the coffee was actually good. Only upside is TakuSando is a block away. EDIT: For Bri Can totally understand if people have off days, maybe the baristas were having a bad day, it happens. Either way, the review reflects what we experienced. We had heard great things but unfortunately felt unwelcome from the moment we ordered, whether intentional or not ~ the energy felt cold to us and that changed the experience. & we just didn't love the drinks. You're def right, Rhythm Zero just isn't our cup of tea and that's totally fine. Hope yall continue to do your best and serve the fan base you have :) Love small businesses, don't love a weird Yelp guilt trip (which seems like a pattern for you across all 3 locations...)

It provides the perfect setting for Barzakh Cafe, a social club/gathering spot of sorts for the pan-Maghreb community across New York. We came for the couscous celebration on July 4th. The owner is Mauritanian, and the couscous reminded me of the ones I've eaten in the northern reaches of Senegal, with tender potatoes, carrots, and cabbage. I had been hoping for something closer to kosksi, but the dish was enjoyable nonetheless. We sat outside in the casually-laid out backyard while hearing songs blending French and Maghrebian Arabic emanating from inside. Barzakh also hosts events from outside the region, including qawwali nights and the like. It is a rare unique space in the neighborhood.
