I called him because my Lennox machine wasn't blowing cold air. Over the phone, he let me know that Lennox has an issue with evaporator coils and I likely have a leak. I have him come to my house less than 24 hours later and he takes a look at the unit. The unit went into protection mode due to a power surge. John told me over the phone that we would be looking at a major repair because I failed to mention the power surge, so he didn't know. But he looked at the unit and explained to me that a power surge will turn ACs into fan systems, and that all I have to do next time is wait an hour and turn the unit back on. No upsell, just 99 dollars for his time and expertise. I was prepare to spend thousands. At that point, I felt very comfortable with John's ethics. It's a good thing to have. I asked him to do a service on the machines (clean, etc, yearly maintenance) and he told me he was happy to. However, his priority was to get customers with no working AC up and running. I'm okay with that. It's a sign of good principles. Also, he told me he's proud of his install work. I know my machines will break again, and when they do I hope he'll be around to help.

Found short at t-stat, repaired. T-stat old, christmas lights sound, and wire bent in wall to mount properly." An Emerson 1F78-144 thermostat was installed. June 3, 2024: Had Temperature Pro Katy-Cypress perform a system evaluation. July 5, 2024: AC experienced issues. Excel Air LLC replaced a dual run capacitor. July 11, 2024: AC stopped working again. Contacted Texas Air Care A/C & Heating. Paid an additional $228.95. Invoice states "Found small short in low volt wire under Cougs - Have spot on wire stripped back wire & re-connected. Con Vactor seems ok - monitor," and a fuse was replaced. December 27, 2024: The same HVAC issue recurred. Excel Air LLC was called. They replaced the Emerson 1F78-144 thermostat that Texas Air Care A/C & Heating had installed on June 2nd. The HVAC system has functioned since this thermostat replacement by Excel Air LLC.

Mike (owner?) answered and said he would send out Stephan that afternoon at 2:00 p.m.. I left to take a return to the USPS on Red Oak but couldn't get away in time for the appointment. Stephan called as I was leaving the Post Office and he agreed to wait until I got home. Stephan quickly diagnosed the problem (failed capacitor) and had a replacement in hand. He explained the cost, which was more than fair. Stephan quickly installed the replacement and tested to insure it was working properly. They then informed us that they were unable to clear the line and claimed the entire AC system would need to be replaced at a cost of $20,000. This estimate did not include the ductwork or the copper piping inside the walls, which they said they were unable to access. My husband and I discussed the situation and felt that $20,000 was an excessive amount for replacing a single unit in a two-story home. When we decided not to move forward and said we wanted to get a second opinion, they lowered the price to $14,000. We couldn't help but feel that the pricing and recommendations may have been influenced by the assumption that we could afford to pay more. While we cannot speak to their intentions, that was certainly how the situation felt to us, particularly given the significant price reduction from $20,000 to $14,000 once we declined the work and said we wanted to seek another estimate. We decided to hold off, and we are extremely grateful that we did. Another HVAC company came out, properly assessed the system, and was able to clear the line. They told us that our existing unit has approximately another 8-10 years of life remaining, and they did not charge us anything for the service. Unfortunately, we were still left paying $600 to Mr. Reliable for a condenser that ultimately did not need to be replaced. This experience was extremely disappointing and left us feeling that we were being overcharged rather than given an honest assessment of what our system actually needed. We were enrolled in American Comfort Experts' annual maintenance subscription. When we noticed a…read morepersistent "dirty sock" smell in our home, we were told additional duct services were needed. This cost us an additional $870. However, during the duct cleaning service visit, the technician informed us that coil cleaning was not part of this additional service because it was supposed to be covered under our existing yearly maintenance plan. It became evident that the coil cleaning was never performed during any of the previous maintenance services. The duct cleaning technician called the technician who had previously performed our annual maintenance to visit our home and ask him about this. In front of my husband, the technician who performed our yearly maintenance acknowledged that the coils had never been cleaned during prior maintenance services because they were difficult for him to get to. You would think this would be mentioned to us instead of pretending to perform coil cleaning for several years. Because the coils weren't being cleaned, there was a dirty sock smell, which we thought would be resolved if the ducts were cleaned. Finding out that this smell would have been resolved if the coils were properly cleaned​ is frustrating because we would have never paid the $870 for the ducts to be cleaned if this were the case. We attempted to resolve this matter directly with the owner of American Comfort Experts, but they refused to give us any money back, despite not receiving services that we paid for (coil cleaning). Absolutely unfair and unprofessional. ****ADDENDUM: The company keeps replying to my reviews stating that they did clean the coils during the duct cleaning. This is a true statement. The yearly maintenance plan that I have paid for several years includes coil cleaning. I found out years later that the coils had NEVER been cleaned during the yearly maintenance... When we complained to the company that the coils had never been cleaned before, that is when they cleaned the coils. So we have been paying for a service for years that we were not receiving. They did not give us any money back and they continue to comment on reviews without addressing the actual complaint.
