Miriam exceeded my expectations! This cozy, no-frills Israeli restaurant has delicious food and drinks and is the perfect spot for dinner before a concert at Barclays Center. To drink, the Passion Spritz was absolutely delicious and refreshing, we also enjoyed the spirited Mocha, which gave us some caffeine to get through the night. To eat, I suggest getting some small plates to share to try it all: -Dip Plate: favorite item on here was the labneh. I wish they had a bigger variety of dips and the option to mix and match-would have loved if we could have gotten some hummus instead of tahini. -Falafel: delicious and I've never had a falafel served on pita chips before! -Roasted Squash: delicious! -Vegan Stuffed Pepper: I loved this and the hearty, slightly sweet tomato sauce it was cooked in. -Brussels Sprouts: these were my favorite item of the evening and were cooked/sauced perfectly. I liked how this place seemed relatively easy to get into despite being a nice day on a weekend (as anyone who lives in the neighborhood can attest, weekend brunch during prime hours without a reservation sometimes can be madness). The food is delicious, specifically their different versions of shakshuka. Pita comes out warm, fluffy, and soft. Probably some of the best falafel I've tasted of late as well. Fantastic experience - one of the best meals I've ever eaten. My brother-in-law said this is his favorite restaurant in all of New York. We could not stop raving about how good everything was as we were eating and as we walked home. Everything tasted extremely fresh and well prepared. Our party of 5 got there for the end of happy hour and everyone got drinks. The best was the Lil' Cuke - cucumber and mint puree with lillit apertif - we kept passing that around. The dipping plate had some amazing tzaziki with complex and refreshing flavors, babaganouj, tahini, and a mashed squash dish. We cleaned everything out with the zaatar bread and with other dishes throughout the meal. The falafel plate was also ridiculously fresh and delicious. My other favorites were the branzino and chicken shawarma. Others really liked the lamb shawarma and brussel sprouts. Not one thing we ordered was less than great. Presentation was on point. I misread! Whoops) I was a bit surprised by the portion sizes, not that I needed huge portions but these were definitely smaller than I expected. Even the size of the meatballs were very small. The hummus was definitely more of a rougher/chunkier/course texture. I think I was in the mood for something smoother so this didn't quite suit my palette at the time but was still very fresh and good. But just a heads up. The labneh combined with the pomegranate flavor was very yummy and refreshing. However, because the meatballs were on the smaller side, I found them quite tough and dry which bummed me out because I wish they had been able to soak up that yummy pomegranate flavor better. The pita was warm and yummy. Service was standard. I like the overall atmosphere of this restaurant and it would be a nice place to grab dinner with a friend. I'm usually not a fan of Middle Eastern brunch but Miriam's was different. I had the Jerusalem breakfast, The eggs were made perfectly and the Turkish Simmit tasted so good, especially when topped with butter, eggs and guacamole. My mom enjoyed her green shashuka with pita bread. And the guy they gave us extra pita without hesitation haha. Wait times can get a bit crazy for brunch. There was only three parties ahead of my party of three and it still took about 30 to 40 minutes. So if you plan on going, make sure you have patience. But I would say it's worth the wait. read more

There's always a long line here, but my friend and I came right when they opened and that's the sweet spot. Everything we had was delicious, and the service was great...except for an odd thing that happened. We started off with Anthony and then in the middle of the meal another server was helping us, and he never introduced himself or said what happened to Anthony. When we tried to make conversation/quip with the new waiter, he was unbothered and uninterested. Not impolite, but just fine. Either way, the croissant rocked, the bacon was delicious and extra crispy (as asked), and you should absolutely get the hot sauce. A nice touch with the croissant is that the scrambled eggs were more of an omelet so the eggs didn't fall off the sandwich when you took a bite. I ordered the red shakshuka which was amazing, but the real show-stopper was the pita and hummus. I don't know how they managed to do it, but their pita bread was so incredibly soft and fresh. I've never had pita bread so perfect. The hummus was also a delight. The texture and consistency was incredible, and it was bursting with flavor. I would not hesitate to just order pita and hummus as my entire meal. The red shakshuka was delicious as well! It was hearty and light, and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. I'm finally caught up with all my reviews from last year. So many to write dang. I can feel the carpal tunnel creeping up on me. Miriam looked like an interested place to eat. It's always crowded during brunch and has a line out the door. Dinner is calmer and no line out the door, but you still need a reservation. Or at least one is recommended. I came here with my husband, brother-in-law (BIL), and his friend from college, CC. My BIL had always wanted to try Miriam but was never able to go. He was ecstatic to have finally eaten here. We got there before 6pm as a walk-in. I was afraid we wouldn't be able to be seated, but luckily it wasn't too busy so we were able to sit down. If you go between 4-6pm it's happy hour. So when we sat down it was around 5:40pm. And I think they were short staffed because a waitress didn't get to us until 5:50pm. I was worried about not getting those happy hour priced drinks, but she came just in the knick of time. We started off the meal with the housemade zatar bread, which is pita bread topped with the zatar spices. It's always amazing not matter where. Except for CC, we all got the chicken shawarma for our main dishes. CC got the sea bass shawarma. He was in the mood for fish. The chicken shawarma was pretty decent. It was a large portion so I took half of it home. I was pretty surprised my BIL got the chicken shawarma, since he always gets salads in these types of places. But he didn't finish all of the chicken and he didn't want to take it home which was a bit irritating. There was good chicken leftover and he just threw it away. Do you realize how many starving people there are in this world? Anyways, I digress. The food was good, but I don't think it was worth the $27 it cost for the chicken shawarma. The salads were bland and the meat drenched in what tasted like barbecue sauce. The menu also wasn't very vegetarian-friendly (only one main and a couple of sides and salads). I've been to Miriam a number of times -- it's a rare good restaurant in the sea of mid tier locations that is North Slope. Their pancakes, shakshouka(both red & green), and various poached egg dishes are great. Their hummus, falafel, and schnitzel are very good too. Their lamb schwarma was slightly dry, their scrambled eggs very overdone, but everything else was good. Do wish they'd give more than one pita for an entire hummus order. Their cocktails are good as well - last visit we had the khalua mocha coffee and the Lil Cuke. The ambiance is minimal but plenty of nice plants indoors and reliable outdoor seating. Everything on the menu looked delicious! Service was great! No overbearing waiters or anyone forcing us to get up. The green shaksurka was really something. It came hot and full of flavor. I had never had Mediterranean food for breakfast before and this was really great. The two eggs cooked to perfection and the balance of spices was perfect. Both of them ordered at the table came with a side of Lebneh cheese which wasn't on the menu so that was a great bonus. The pita was fresh. My other friend ordered the herbed eggs. Since she couldn't have pita, they substituted with some cucumbers since I don't believe they have potatoes. She enjoyed her meal too.
