Ever since the diner on Emmons Ave, El Greco, closed down, I am upset. Their location, view and cheesecakes were good but now only in memories. So we were looking for an alternate diner so here we are at Mirage. We ordered a portion of buffalo wings, 3 beers, 3 DLX burgers. Our server was a nice lady, I would give 4-5 stars to service from the beginning to the end but the food lessens the overall rating. Wings were on the table within 3-4 minutes after ordering, they seemed like soaked in a barbecue sauce or ketchup rather than buffalo, my brother tried one and he mentioned them as being one of the worst wings he has ever tried so i did not even bother. You can skip the wings. We had better expectations of burgers. The size and french fries on the side looked okay and tasted okay. 2 stars to burgers. Beers are cold enough, parking lot is a plus, servers are working hard. I was so full to try desserts so I will go back again for fries, beers and desserts but not for burgers or wings. read more

Nice, clean and good food. I love it that I still get to go to a typical diner! It even has those mini juke boxes in each booth I love it

I usually come here to have dinner with my family the food is good but the service has gotten worse over the years. When we got seated the waiter (John) came by looking at my family and I nasty, talking with an attitude. He took the drink orders rushing us to tell him when we weren't even taking long. When we asked just one simple question from the menu asking what it came with (the Seafood Au Gratin) he said with an attitude "Umm umm it come with seafood" and we asked again yea we know but what kind and he replied in a even worse attitude then before " I already told you it comes with seafood". So off the bat he was very disrespectful and gave a lot of attitude. When our food arrived he just came and threw the food on the table and walked away and never once did he stop by to check up on us and see how the food is, as a good waiter should do. Only the bus boy would stop by check up and refill our waters, clean up plates etc. Once we finished our dinner he comes to our table cleaning it with a rag while we were still there sitting there he started throwing the pepper and salt from across the table without even asking if we wanted anything else, which we did because our meals came with dessert which we wanted to sit and eat there but with this nasty man's actions we choose to have it for take out. He brought us the check and for a party of 4 he added the gratitude thinking we weren't going to leave him any, (I'm guessing he's used to not getting any with his horrible service) but he came out loosing because regardless we were going to leave a tip and even more than what he requested (18%) because we know that all waiters live off tips which makes me wonder how he survives!!! And the mostly ironic thing is he served us not knowing the people sitting at the table are professional waiters with 20+ years of experience in this field. Would I recommend this place to someone? Absolutely but just ask to be seated with a different waiter !!! read more

Been coming here for years and was caught off guard when the waiter said that the replacement of lettuce and tomato over the french fries with your omelette.......Get this.....If you want it diced or chopped is an extra charge of $1, otherwise you have the option of it being served as is like you would give it to a rabbit. Unreal that they would have the audacity. Yikes !!! read more

I rode my bike soberly out to the Mirage Diner a few weeks ago. It's just a couple of blocks off the Ocean Parkway bike path. The guy was going to seat me in the side room addition--which did have nice windows on Kings Highway--but it was empty of people! I said, "If I want to sit in a room all by myself, I'll stay at home. Can I sit at the counter?" He said, "You want sit at the counter?" Like I'd asked for a chair next to the dumpster. But the counter, at a diner, is where the action is. Two eggs, home fries, toast, coffee, and juice for $5.17, with tax. That's hard to beat. Not enough home fries, but there never is. More employees than customers, but it's still early on a Saturday. The closer it got toward noon the more people came in. It's a big place. Everyone knows each other. Some faint music comes up from somewhere. I look over and see two waiters with vests and ties swaying slightly behind an etched glass partition. The music rises a little and the song is unmistakable. Are they doing a Karaoke Mariachi version of "Hotel California"--alternating verses in Spanish and Hebrew? No--it's just the low level sound system. They're just at the touch screen registers, adding up checks. Above them, a wide screen TV monitor plays infomercials for weed wackers. read more

Bland food, lackluster service, dingy bathrooms, and big signs campaigning for a subpar politician. Blah. SKIPPING.

went here after my mom's funeral. the service was great. The staff put out pitchers of water and onion rolls (which tasted delicious) we had refills on our sodas too. The food is great. Large portions. I will be back to try the hamburger and frie and chicken noodle soup next time I go. read more

We had a breakfast at this place at 9 AM in the middle of the week. It was quiet and empty ,service was very fast ,food was ordinary and nothing nothing special ,portions are big . This place was nicely decorated for winter holidays. If you like traditional American food this is the place to go. It is not cheap. They have a parking-big plus. read more

Unfortunately, this ranks as the worst diner breakfast I've ever had. Rude, judgmental staff (host and waitstaff, busser was diligent and polite). The food itself was both over and undercooked, with raw eggs Benedict and burnt to an inedible crisp bacon. Coffee was also bland and undrinkable. Do not recommend -- take your business elsewhere where you'll be treated with respect. read more

Hungry for breakfast with no time to leave the office and wanting to try out a new place, I ordered a tomato, mushroom, spinach omelette with coffee. It was delivered pretty quick but I was a bit disappointed with the omelette. It simply had no flavor -- they likely forgot salt, pepper, and the ingredients were just flavorless. read more

Mirage Diner - Diners Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Old-school diners are dying breed in Brooklyn and I think for what it is, Mirage excels. There's parking. They give free pickles and some kind of salad (I've had it range from cole slaw to chickpeas to macaroni salad) and if you get a dinner they're bringing out the bread basket too. The portions are huge and if you order a dinner you get both soup and salad included, which is a lot. Is it fine dining? No. But I've always found the food fresh and never poorly prepared (e.g., if you get the chicken is it just chicken that's got some seasoning and cooked? Yes. But is it overcooked or raw or something? Never). They do everything pretty well from Italian, to Mexican, to Greek. Overall, I like them. I hope they don't go the way of so many other diners. read more

Classic diner, great mazza soup. Eggs Benedict done right. Good service , LOVE the super parking part. Huge advantage, good desserts! Great Sunday morning breakfast!!! read more

My first time at this diner even though I always see crowds of people eating here. Sunday afternoon during a heavy snow storm the place was packed and I wondered if people were that bored on a cold Sunday afternoon to spend their lunch here. Food---better than expected based on numerous poor reviews. Ordered a Greek meat dish that a friend suggested to try. Was disappointed--the meat was extremely fatty and chewy, the tortilla mediocre, and grilled vegetables unappetizing at best, and the dairy sauce nothing special deserving a dish named after it. The huge side of greasy fries was ok, but I had better. The portions are huge though, so you will definitely not leave starving. I was digesting my dish the whole day, skipping dinner. They wrap the plentiful leftovers to go. Service was meh, our modest order was delivered after 20-30 minutes of waiting. Overall, our lunch was better than I expected, but I suggest to order something conventional and less fatty like a wrap, my friend has a good looking chicken wrap that looked much healthier and appetizing than my dish, or come for the good dessert. read more

I love this diner. Great food and service. I like their dinner specials and frozen yogurt.

Over priced bullshit. Even if you're a big baller and can spend the prices they have for the portions they give they won't even get your order right. They charge 50$ and smash together my two orders. Who wants food like that? Ridiculous. Never returning. If you're going to charge that much at least have the decency to get the order right. Horrible service and food! read more

nothing spectacular here but then again it is difficult to find a great diner these days. It is a great place to grab lunch if you are looking for a lot of different menu options. Breakfast all day is the hallmark of a diner and it is no different here. The omelette was serviceable and the homefries just what you would expect. The positive is that it has parking and it is spacious so you have room to do work at the booth if needed. I would come back. read more

First, I ordered Pastrami on a Hero instead I got a roll. The Pastrami was ice cold. Second, I monitor all phone calls, if I do not recognize the number it is temporarily blocked, until I unblock it. Third, the delivery driver was rude because he temporarily could not get through. I tipped him $5.00 and that was more he deserved, he left my food in front of my apartment even though, I was standing there. He then told me to get my phone fixed and stormed off. His behavior was not acceptable. If Mirage Diner wants my business, they need to hire a new driver to make deliveries. This is the first time I had a delivery problem of this nature read more

I've been frequenting this diner for close to the last 10 years with my family. It's my go-to Diner, with Spiros (on Avenue U) as a very close second. The biggest reason why I go to Mirage more often is they're closer to home, and most of their food is pretty decent. They seem just a smidgen too expensive, but with very little competition in the area there's not many alternatives. Their food is good and I don't think I've ever really had a complaint on food, taste or portion size. Their customer service in store has been great. Any bad waiter we never see them last long so it seems management is on top of it. Most waiters are friendly, come often enough to check on you and there's never really a wait time to sit. My issues with this restaurant are in their deliveries. They ALWAYS manage to forget something. I'd say 1-5 times they'll forget to bring something. They've forgetting whole meals, drinks, and sauces (tzatziki for my gyro... That was a sad gyro). This has been a constant for years and while we enjoy their food it's really annoying and can sour a whole meal for something if you forget the food. How hard is it to check? Double-check? Other than delivery issues and a tiny bit too pricey for what they offer its still decent food. Family friendly environment. Friendly staff. Not a 4 star place but a solid 3-3.5 read more

Used to be a decent diner. Not so much anymore. As soon as you come in, the manager shoves his fingers in your face and tells you to go. The wait staff isn't welcoming nor friendly. The food gets worse each time. My friend ordered a plate of nachos that came complete with frozen fries scattered in and chunks of barely melted cheese. Her French onion soup came with a side of plastic in it. My Greek omelette came out cold and undercooked. Long story short, find a different diner to go to. read more

We had a waitress who barely spoke or understood English. I had to reiterate a request such as whether the chicken in a particular dish was boneless where she had to go ask. When asked about the specials she just pointed to the menu, although I was puzzled by what was on the board by the door. She couldn't answer the question, although I learned on my own it was the menu special from the day before that wasn't erased. The food was average - come on, its diner food what would one expect? I must say they do feed you well and for that, I give them an extra star! Before dinner, a basket of breadsticks and bread was brought out, along with bowls of chickpea, cole slaw, and sour and half sour pickles. I thought these were very tasty. My dinner came with soup, side, and potato. Don't order the Lobster Bisque! It's 1) NOT lobster - I hate fish so I knew right away; and 2) it looks like it glows peachy colors in the dark. I switched it for chicken soup, which they did without question. It was real chicken stock- my fault I forgot don't like chicken that is too chicken tasting. The meals we had were the Beef Gulosh. My girlfriend had it with noodles and I had it without. It comes in a reddish brown sauce. I am used to brown, but I thought the tomatoes gave it a better taste. My GF prefers brown sauce. You can't pay the wait staff, maybe there is a security issue there. You have to pay at the counter. We were seated right away but let me tell you at around 7:00 PM, on a Sunday that placed gets packed with seniors. Very large space but still it can fill up at its peak times. Parking lot - if you have a new car or don't want to get dinks or scratches on it don't park in the lot when it's busy. It seems half the drivers who park their cars in there don't know the meaning of between the lines. When I came out there were three cars over the lines crooked, and one laid out diagonally in front of the base of steps blocking the path. Either those drivers need new glasses or the city needs to stop issuing drivers' licenses out of cracker jack boxes. The other danger is the lot is small so you better know how to K turn inside a small space. and let me tell you some of those drivers I was watching trying to turn around and I wish I took a video because I just can't describe what I witnessed. Average prices are about $18+ with seafood being in the high 20's closer to $30. So it's pretty expensive .. most likely to pay for the pre-dinner. We were so full we skipped dessert and each left with a takeout tray. Not a bad deal if you're hungry, don't have anyone to impress and if you go during their less busy times. read more

I choose this place for a big family dinner and was embarrassed at the end cause of this disgusting food. Food to avoid: Mirage Pene pasta, mushroom soup , clam Chowder, turkey meatloaf, orzo from the lamb shank dish. It was a disaster, everything sour or no taste. Good : buffalo wings, prime rib steak, sea food kebab. Rest of the food like burger , hot dog, fries it wasn't terrible but I wouldn't order it again. Just stay open for breakfast only, eggs are easy to cook . read more

Food at the Mirage is very good. I frequent it with both my friends and my mom. The service is very friendly. It is one of the few truly American diners is left in this area. The reason for five stars is that that it is what it says a diner. It's not gourmet or a place for a romantic date. The menu is extensive. I have never gotten anything that I have not liked. I have frequented The Mirage for the past 40 years and have not been disappointed on any of my visits. The specials offered daily are huge plates. Usually I have enough left over for another meal at home. If you are looking for a excellent Dinner the Mirage is a great place to go. Make sure you were hungry because you will be full when you leave. read more

I really wanted to like this place so I tried it twice.....but it needs an updated menu a little more of this a little less of that. A new cook to infuse some flavors into the food which I found very bland both times. Maybe that's for the elderly graphics dietary needs. The chicken fingers were horrible breaded and also flavorless. My waiter was by the desserts on his phone so once I got my food I never saw him again until I was done and I had to ask another waiter to find him for my check. The lamb was a bit overcooked in a bland sauce over orzo. Yeah, you can keep those leftovers. The next time I decided to order something simple that you can't mess up. A steak, yeah, I didn't finish that either. What can I say, I was very disappointed with everything food, service.....and I really wanted to like this diner, it brought back nostalgia with the appetizers on the table, pickles, garbanzo salad etc....with Brooklyn diners disappearing I hope they make a few changes, and that set sides by day of the week is crazy, remove that and just post daily, switch it up it's so limited. C'mon your sooo close to glory. I'm rooting for you! read more

I'm going to write this review with the face that this is a DINER in mind. I wish everyone would heed to this same rule. It's fatty food - it tastes like it's all been steeped in butter for several days, and then boiled, baked or fried in oil. But diners are not health food establishments - they never have been. The food is cheap, and you come here when you're drunk, you want a cooked meal quickly, you need to save some money but still want to go out to eat, or if you're a fogie with a million years on your hands and just want a cup of coffee and an egg. The service here is great, I generally like all of the servers. They deserve good tips, not the measly 10% I always hear people say they think servers at diners shoul get (diner staff don't get paid more or less than "real" restaurants, and therefore shouldn't receive only 10% instead of 15 or 20 because the food is cheaper). They're friendly, and even when they're busy, they try to take some time to check up on you. The food is touch and go ... you get some really good burgers, eggs, souvlaki and other dishes, and then there are some that are just ... blech. And you can almost feel your arteries expanding as you digest the stuff. But, again, it's a diner ... you get what you pay for. The bottom line is that I generally choose this place over El Greco, even though we don't live as close. My husband loves that they deliver pretty far out (which I think is weird - ordering diner food for delivery? Really?), so that's a plus. I would recommend it above all the other diners in the area, for sure. read more

TLDR- good food, good price, and good service. STAY AWAY from their valet parking. Pros: Great service - they always do their best to accommodate and they are quick to come when assistance is needed. The staff was always kind and entertained my 2 year old daughter. Great price - the pricing is very fair for decent tasting food. It's a diner and I'm not expecting gourmet quality food, but I'm definitely satisfied with the portions and taste for the price paid Cons: Valet Parking: HORRIBLE... The Valet is not a very good driver. Granted the parking lot isn't big either, but when I was walking into the restaurant, the Valet almost hit me and my daughter while backing up. I was not near him, and I blame a complete lack of awareness on the Valet's part. I had to yell and run out of the way. This one Valet cost the 5 star rating. read more

If you're looking for diner food, diner quality and diner service...this is the diner for you. Absolutely nothing special about it but it gets the job done. The spanikopita is phenomenal though. I am a lifelong Brooklyn resident and a huge fan of diners. Until a few years ago, I ate religiously at Seaport Diner. When they closed I was forced to find another diner. I had been to Mirage but not frequently. Well, that has changed. I have now been a loyal customer at Mirage Diner for years. The menu has a great variety of foods including the usual diner fare plus items like gyros and paninis. The eggs benedict is one of my favorite dishes from Mirage. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very warm. Best part - they deliver to me in Sheepshead Bay and the food is never cold. Definitely choose them over El Greaso. read more

An excellent diner with freshly prepared food served by caring staff. I've never had a meal here that I didn't enjoy! During our last visit I ordered a tomato and onion omelet, which was light, fluffy and not at all greasy as well as flavorful. My fiance had scrambled eggs which were well prepared and our friend ordered a bacon and egg sandwich on rye bread which he enjoyed very much. I also ordered a decaf iced coffee, which was very good and our other friend enjoyed a delicious cappucino. All in all, a very pleasant experience. We come here often and have salad platters and burgers and the Mexican food was surprisingly good. A great addition to the neighborhood!! This diner generally allows for quick seating and no wait time. The interior is clean but loud due to the clanking of plates and silverware. It is impossible to have a conversation inside. The staff is moderately attentive but not friendly or welcoming whatsoever. They are also often clumsy and uncoordinated; during our stay, the waiters collided several times in front of our table. We asked for a cup of coffee to be refilled and the waiter spilled the coffee... Twice. He did not offer his apologies either time and only cleaned up his mess the second time. The portions we received were large and as expensive as some chain establishments, but of low quality. The eggs tasted watery and fake, the pancakes tasted of pancake mix, the cabbage in the Cole slaw was hard, and the cheeseburger was nothing special. You might find something similar in McDonalds. The bathrooms are relatively clean, but they have replaced hand soap with cheap dish soap. Overall, the mediocre quality of the food, the inattentive staff, the unreasonably high prices, and to top it off, the dish soap, left us feeling dissatisfied and we do not plan to return. read more

Mirage Diner - Diners Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

A Brooklyn Institution in a lot of ways. I'm a happy regular. Usually i get a spinach & feta cheese omelette or a salmon or red snapper dinner. You can't go really go wrong.....One key is, to know or befriend your waitstaff, tell em what you're inthe mood for, and ask em what's a great choice that day....If you are a newcomer it never hurts to start out friendly. Of course, so should the waitperson. The Mirage has a great cast of characters... Reading a couple of reviews, I'm a little surprised... And I'm here to tell ya, that while no place, and no one is perfect, the management and the staff at The Mirage want you to enjoy your meal and the atmosphere. Billy, his partner, and their maitre'd s, are lifelong restauranteurs, and there's lots of reasons there are hundreds, excuse me, probably over a thousand or maybe thousands of regular diners at the Mirage. Many people go back 30 even close to 40 years with Billy, even to the old Caraville Diner....The Mirage does provide hospitality...Brooklyn style, but still hospitality :-) Today we had a gathering of 15 or 16 old friends for brunch. Rochelle was our waitress. She was great. Spoke clearly, forthright, almost like a professional speaker, and was nice. Not one order got screwed up, she knew who got what, & she got every special request correct. The busboy began a little slow at refilling the coffee, so i tawked to him, schmeared him with a few bucks, told him i needed to see him refill our cawfee at least every ten minutes or he'd have to pay me back double that. The kid smiled, and showed up every 5 minutes with fresh coffee. And that's fair. Everyone there does work hard- no two ways about. I don't know every waiter or waitress by name, but, Manny, Big John, Joanne, Rochelle, Jose, they're great. All polite and thorough, don't know what to do for you. And they'll kibbitz with you.. In a vanishing Brooklyn, The Mirage is an oasis. read more

For a diner, I didn't expect that much. The menu had a good selection of cheeses and veggies for the omelettes. Got feta and spinach. It was flavorful but a tad dry. At the time of this review I am the Duke. So my 2 star should speak volumes. The food is average at best and terrible sometimes. But for my purposes it is suitable. I mean how hard is it to make eggs. The service is what pisses me off. The host is inept. If there is any crowd at all he looses all base with reality. One person get told 10 mins another gets told no wait. The next person to talk in may be told it's 1985? Who knows with this guy. If he manages to catch on to you being irritated with the wait he will tell you to wait more. Miserable waitstaff only helps the ambience. I've suffered my last bad service experience. We wanted to experience an old style Brooklyn diner. Soup, salad, appetizer, choice of a thousand entrées, desert coffee, bread bowl, pickles, chick peas, coleslaw etc. They have it for $18.95 person - bargain, I hear you say. Think again. Soup - wife had clam chowder - "the red kind" declared the waiter. It was brown like chocolate milk. Bread Basket was OK. Not plentiful, but a decent selection of flat bread, bread sticks, a yellow (potato?) bread and a roll. Salads were good, basic, a few different types of lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. Dressings were standard and served on the side. Coleslaw, average NYC coleslaw. Main courses - over cooked, flavorless monstrosities. Wife had the Athena platter - Mousakka, spinach pie and an artichoke heart. Mousakka and spinach pie looked and tasted like they were frozen for weeks then microwaved. Artichoke heart was good. Daughter had Penne ala Vodka. Completely over cooked mush. Sauce was pretty decent, but needed some seasoning. I had the stuffed Cornish hen with fruit sauce and fruit stuffing. Completely overcooked, dried out and the meat completely unseasoned. It was served as two halves with the "fruit "stuffing underneath on a couple of slices of toast. Stuffing was composed of raisins, rice, and some sort of unidentifiable brown starch and it was cold. Fruit "sauce" was a single grilled canned pineapple ring. Baked potato was not fully cooked - with the upper portion overcooked and the bottom under. A real surprise where the sting beans served in a tomato onion sauce. Very tasty, but definitely over stewed. Men's room smelled like a stable and the urinals were covered in dead fruit flies. Where have all the great Brooklyn diners gone? read more
