I felt the need to sign up on Yelp just to write this review. Last year I attended an educational…read moreseminar for the Sun City Hearing Loss group, and had the fortune to hear Dr. Peterson speak. Now, being in Sun City, we get a lot of hearing aid dealers that come in and try to get us to buy this or that, but this was not one of those talks. In this particular seminar Dr. Peterson explained in depth how our ears work, how hearing aids really work and what tinnitus is. At the time it was evident that we weren't listening to your average hearing specialist. She came back some months later to talk about hearing loss and how that affects Alzheimer's and Dementia, and since that time members of her staff have come to talk about balance disorders and other things. She is one of the most intelligent individuals I have ever had the great fortune to meet. I know that going to Great Hills ENT and the Hearing & Balance Center of Austin is a bit of a drive from Sun City, but I can not stress how much it is worth it. I am pretty sure my wife and I would drive from Houston if we had to to visit this clinic. The staff is friendly, and remembers your name. The providers are thorough and never once make you feel like you are a number. On my initial visit I had questions about my existing hearing aids and if they needed to be replaced. She was honest about my loss and the state of my aids, and at the end of the day fixed what I currently had instead of trying to get me to get new hearing aids (like three of the clinics in Georgetown). It is a small private practice, so know that sometimes its hard to get someone on the phone, but they will call you back. The doctors here practice medicine the way it should be done!!

After a brief exam, Dr. Young was able to investigate my problem and come to a solution to help me.  I left feeling confident I would be feeling better soon. Now that time has passed, I can say I do! I came to ENT Specialists of Austin for what should have been a standard clinical evaluation. During the exam, Dr. Youssef grabbed my tongue with gauze and yanked it so violently to the side that the tissue tore and started bleeding right there in the exam chair. The pain was immediate and excruciating. For several days afterward, my tongue and throat were swollen, and I couldn't swallow without sharp pain or eat solid food. What made the visit completely surreal was the lack of proper medical equipment. Instead of using a sterile ENT scope or a dedicated clinical camera, Dr. Youssef literally grabbed my personal cell phone, turned on the flashlight, and held my unsterilized phone right in front of my open, bleeding mouth to take pictures. Aggressive physical handling, painful recovery, and zero regard for sterile technique. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for ENT care and avoiding Dr. Youssef.

Also difficult to catch folks in conversation but individually, not so much a problem. During my master program I read and researched/referenced the readings and sat always at the front of the class and got to know my professors well to help fill a gap. What I will tell you about Margaret is when she put the hearing aids on me (two), I cried. I have 'Cookie Bite Syndrome' which your hearing space negates voice area and anything in midrange. There are still moments where I may not catch a word; but the world is such a living organism to me know that I don't even want to take off my hearing aids to sleep (have tinnitus too) because they too, accommodate my hearing disparity with a white noise. So amazing!!! She also has a hired musician on staff who can offer input to help with that important aspect. And her flexibility with my new job is superb. And she is someone who seeks to help and enjoys her patients. Very warm and kind interaction... I can't compliment her, her style, her education (UTD/PhD), her patient care enough. If you are worried about your hearing, go see her. Good luck! Jen

This means that one or both of the hearing aids emit loud, squealing sounds about a fifth of the time, unbeknown to her. Today - wearing her mask - mom saw her audiologist, Nancy Innis, and new molds have been ordered. Boy howdy, what a relief. Now then, getting the right molds for my brilliant, funny, joy-to-be-around 89 year old mother is tricky. Expensive and renown experts in various cities had failed and determined that there was nothing more they could do. Mom suffers from severe hearing loss and all of us were desperate three years ago. We were shouting at her while moving our lips and waving our arms in exaggerated ways and half the time she no longer understood what we were trying to tell her. She isn't receptive to sign language. Heartbreaking and stressful to say the least. Then we discovered Nancy Innis - Tejas Hearing Aid Center's audiologist - and she gave my once stone-deaf mother her hearing back. We've been having many, many happy conversations without shouting ever since Nancy came into her life. Thank you for giving me my mama back, Nancy.
