Went all the way there for an interview, their door showed they were gone for an hour, despite my appointment, left a note and then called later. Their secretary said they were "in the garage of the building" when I was there and she did not care. I told her that it was unprofessional behavior, and that I was a professional. She hung up on me. Judging from all these many negative reviews, they don't care. I strongly suggest that when you agree to a job interview, research the company reviews before going out there, obviously Margaret Hutchinson is exceptionally stupid and feels this is good for business, vote with your wallet and not visit there for any reason. read more

I called in about a job listing with Austin Hearing Services. I spoke directly with Margaret, and was honestly very unsure from the get-go about what the actual job entailed. The pay had a very wide gap from lowest to highest possible pay, the hours were listed as part time and temporary, but there was no break-down of when or how long the actual shifts would take place. After speaking with Margaret for about 5 minutes I was able to deduce that this was not a good fit for me (it was a phone sales job masquerading as a Social Media Marketing Specialist position), but having some experience in Marketing and Public Relations (I have been a Graphic Designer since 2017, and currently offer Marketing services through my own small business) I felt the need to offer her some advice, in order to aid her in finding the right fit for the job. I simply let her know that she may benefit from changing the job title from "Social Media Specialist" to "Temporary Phone Sales," in order to avoid more waste-of-her-time conversations like the one she was currently having with me. To which she became suddenly very insecure, and began accusing me of calling her deceptive, and saying it didn't seem like a very good fit. I calmly informed her that I had already realized that myself, but was trying to help her out in the long run. I began to try and explain from a Marketing/Sociological stand-point, why this would be beneficial to her in the long run, but she very rudely spoke over me, saying "Thank you so much for your time, you have a great day!" And then hung up on me in the middle of talking to her. These people are extremely unprofessional and are not looking to grow and progress. They want a bunch of yes-men with no minds of their own to work a job for them that they don't actually have a description for yet. 10 minutes on the phone with this woman and I'm still unsure what the actual job, hours, or pay would have looked like. I did tell her that I couldn't do less than 15, and she said that was out of their range of possibility. The job was listed for $10-$33 an hour, and she was telling me at first that as a designer I seemed like a great fit, but then turned around and said they couldn't even pay me half of the max pay-rate. Long story short I'm extremely dissatisfied with my interaction with Margaret from Austin Hearing Services. If this is how she conducts her business in house, I can only imagine what it's like as one of her clients. read more

The negative reviews are ridiculous, most likely posted to harm her business and drive patients from the practice. I am an extremely pleased patient and the real five star reviews prove that I am not the only one. If I could give ZERO stars I would. Absolutely disgusted with the way they spoke to me on the phone. Having suffered with tinnitus my entire life, I've decided it's time to maybe figure out what treatment is best for me. I know nothing about treatments or how to even properly take care of tinnitus so I called to ask just like I have done with other hearing doctors. The woman goes "don't you think it's kind of hard to treat somebody over the phone? DON'T USE AUSTIN HEARING SERVICES! Margret Hutchison has made me wait for her EVERY appointment at least 30-40 minutes, yesterday ONE HOUR AND 15 MINUTES. Then told me she was in a hurry as her next appointment had already waited 45 and I was rude for staying so long. She also basically called my a liar when I told her I waited more than an hour to see her. She could not adjust my hearing aids and would have to send me to a specialist which I thought she was. Larry, her assistant did his best to help me but even he became frustrated with Margaret. She is rude and should not be running her own business. read more

I bought my new Phonak Marvel hearings aids at this practice and have been so impressed with Dr. Hutchison's knowledge of hearing loss and new technology. Her support staff (Larry and Lisa) are equally capable and pleasant. The office beeps me apprised of firmware updates and new capabilities. I have honestly never had this level of support from any provider before. It's very refreshing. They are the best!! read more

Incompetent This woman has not a clue on how to program a hearing aid beyond the "cookbook" formula, and has to ask the vendor a million questions, but she loves to tell you how she has a PhD every time you visit. They made sure everything was in place and ordered within the appropriate time.They were so wonderful! I have needed to use hearing aids for 12 years now. I have used both local audiologists as well as online services. In an industry plagued with slimy con artists, these are absolutely the worst, both Margaret Hutchinson's office and the parent company Hear.com. I responded to an ad for free hearing test and trial of hearing aids(which is free only if you end up buying the product). I was interested in the Bluetooth feature. When using the trial aids, I noticed that the Bluetooth feature kept cutting out. The hearing component was comparable to the $1500 pair that I had purchased online (this pair cost thousands). After some trial and error and many trips back to the audiologist, it was discovered that the software was corrupted. If I purchased a pair, the problem would be corrected. I did and it wasn't. They blamed the iPhone, but apple did an in depth trouble shooting of my phone and concluded definitively that the phone was not to blame. I tried another pair and same problem. I could get the Bluetooth working, only to have it quit an hour or so later. Another issue was rechargeable battery life. I was told that it was 18 hours. Rarely would I get even 12 hours. I was told, Haha, some of our users only get 4 hours of battery life. I asked to return the aids for a refund. I was told that as long as they could get them working in the office, I could not return them even if they would quit an hour later. About the battery life, just carry the charger with you everywhere you go and when they die, just put them in the charger for 45 minutes. I finally told them that I no longer wished to keep them and was sent a copy of the contract with, Haha, your return period has expired. Dozens of phone calls to the corporate office and I have yet to get a return call. On hold to customer support for over an hour before being cut off. I feel as though I have be lied to and cheated. Do not use this company unless you want the same. By the way if you look on their site, be aware that it does not accept anything but five star reviews. read more

My audiologist was Margaret Hutchison. First session: Wanted to try the new generation of hearing aids. Set up the appointment. Took an afternoon off work and showed up. Her first reaction was that my hearing was "really bad." Looking over my audiogram, she said with a wince "I'm surprised you can manage as well as you do." Bedside manner? Not so much. I was then informed that there were none of the aids I wanted to try on premises, so I would have to come back again next week. This made me wonder why she had me take an afternoon off work for nothing. The second session was no better. I again took off work. I again showed up on time. I again did not get to try any new aids. This time, it was because Margaret insisted that I had too much earwax, and must spend a week dissolving it with doses of hydrogen peroxide before I would be allowed to try any aids. I pointed out that (a) I would have no way of knowing, after that week, if any wax was even gone, since I can't look in my own ear (b) I would thus likely come back only to be told the same thing again -- spend another week, do more dissolving (c) My experience with such solutions has been that it leaks past my eardrum into the middle ear, where it sits indefinitely and makes my hearing far worse for weeks. Margaret seemed to interpret all of that as an attempt to challenge her credentials. So I walked out. Not right away -- she then tried to argue with me that I should continue working with her indefinitely, continuing to make more appointments and taking off more time from work. I finally got her to admit that there was likely no solution suitable for my needs, and that we were both wasting our time. The difference was simply that she stood to make many thousands of dollars, whereas I only stood to spend it. I did try the peroxide solution (Murine) anyway, by the way. Just as before, it leaked past my right eardrum, into the middle ear. This time, though, it also proceeded from there to the inner ear, where it ** permanently destroyed most of my hearing in that ear. ** I have audiograms that can demonstrate this effect. Last update: After posting this review, I got a call from Margaret, in which she never identified herself, saying only "I hope you are not going to continue posting things online that are not real and didn't happen to you." Unfortunately for her anonymity, my phone service tracks incoming numbers. There is also now a review for her from "Peggy H" that gives Margaret five stars and exists solely to contradict THIS review. Let me point out that Peggy is a variant on Margaret. I suggest anyone considering using Murine, or Margaret Hutchison, profit from my experience and instead avoid them completely. read more

Went to see Austin Hearing Service to have impressions made for custom in ear monitors. Being completely new to the process I wasn't quite sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by how helpful and knowledgeable Dr. Hutchinson was when it came to In ear monitors for musicians. The whole process takes about 30 minutes, most of which is going over the process with you in detail and making sure the molds are done correctly. I would highly recommend any of musician brethren looking to transition to custom molded in ear monitors to use Austin Hearing Services. read more

Margaret (Dr Hutchison) is a knowledge bucket in Audiology. I have a condition which went 'uncaught' for decades and I'm a percussionist and Technical Writer (M.A.T.) and had a difficult tile tuning tympani (mallet instrument versus pitch pipe. Also difficult to catch folks in conversation but individually, not so much a problem. During my master program I read and researched/referenced the readings and sat always at the front of the class and got to know my professors well to help fill a gap. What I will tell you about Margaret is when she put the hearing aids on me (two), I cried. I have 'Cookie Bite Syndrome' which your hearing space negates voice area and anything in midrange. There are still moments where I may not catch a word; but the world is such a living organism to me know that I don't even want to take off my hearing aids to sleep (have tinnitus too) because they too, accommodate my hearing disparity with a white noise. So amazing!!! She also has a hired musician on staff who can offer input to help with that important aspect. And her flexibility with my new job is superb. And she is someone who seeks to help and enjoys her patients. Very warm and kind interaction... I can't compliment her, her style, her education (UTD/PhD), her patient care enough. Dr. Hutchinson is a highly trained and competent audiologist. She has given me a very thorough audiological examination on several occasions. She has always been pleasant and helpful and has gone out of her way to make sure I was happy with my hearing aids. I recently got new Sonic Innovation hearing aids and I love them. They are much better, in my opinion, than the Phonax's aids that were 5 years old. A Newer technology I was told. I would have rated the practice with 5 stars but have had some difficulty with scheduling appts. call backs and some small administrative snafus. read more

By far the most incompetent audiologist I have ever been to, and I've been to several over the course of the last 20 years. M. Hutchinson is unable to handle anything but the most textbook type of hearing loss. We had to start from scratch at every frustrating visit because she seemed to forget everything we tried. Dr. Hutchinson has been a true "miracle worker" for my father, who has profound hearing loss and also dementia. He had hearing aids but really didn't seem to help him that much. He was so "checked out" and disconnected from everyone and everything that we assumed that he was deteriorating mainly from the dementia. We took him to Dr. Hutchinson, who was able to do an EXTREMELY thorough exam and audiology testing for him and fitted him with new hearing aids. They were expensive, like ALL good hearing aids are, but the results were nothing short of MIRACULOUS! My dad can hear now as well as I can... It is as though we re-wound his life back 3 years! He is telling stories, watching movies (still use close captioning to help out), visiting with others (instead of just staring off). My mom now has a partner and friend back to talk and share things with. (a forgetful friend ..but a real live happy man and not the sad shell that his terrible deafness had left him) We just didn't realize how much of his diminished state was due to hearing loss. Seeing his audiogram was shocking - we realized that he was missing everything that went on around him! Yes his short term memory is still poor, but he is smiling and laughing and enjoying the grandchildren and telling stories and teasing them... and being teased! All because of Dr. Hutchinson's thorough evaluation and selection of the hearing devices that would work best for him. 5 stars is NOT ENOUGH to thank her for her attentiveness and thoroughness with my father's care. She explains everything, you don't feel rushed, her follow up is great and the hearing aids did not only what we hoped they would ... but a 100 x more than we even imagined! read more
