I'm a 74-year-old physician and musician who has been wearing the latest high-end Kirkland hearing aids for several months, for ordinary high-end loss. THE SERVICE: Austin Arboretum Costco Hearing Aid Center was good for testing and fitting, but not what one would get from an audiologist. Costco's staff are NOT audiologists (who usually have doctorate degrees) but technicians with training and a different license. Mine were pleasant and competent but not allowed, for example, to examine ears or even remove wax to faciitate testing. They did a good job. One can get free follow-up and warranty service at any Costco (a great asset IF you're in a city with a Costco). THE KIRKLAND PRODUCT: Price & Value: Great. Warranty and Free Follow-Up: Outstanding. Voice Clarity: As good or better than my previous $4500 pair (BUT see below for music problems). iPhone Bluetooth: New to me and sometimes iffy in the car & a bit distorted, but far bettter than nothing. Music and High sounds: Significant distortion at high pitches, making some listening and (especially) monitoring my own music (guitar) very frustrating. Sounds like a radio with a loose speaker cone at high pitches. (To test your current hearing aids, whistle loudly as high as you can. If it's distorted, you'll know what I mean.) The distortion goes away if I lower the volume substantially, but that has its own problems and shouldn't be necessary. BATTERY LIFE: Mediocre (with Costco batteries so far). I get 4-5 days per set rather than the usual 7, a bit worse on the right for some reason. Maybe it's the batteries; maybe the aids, and maybe the extra Bluetooth use with my iPhone. EasyLine Remote iPhone App: three stars at best. read more
