Modern equipment, kind and patient staff, lots of follow up care, and true interest in your well-being. Anyone can sell you a hearing aid, not everyone can make you feel as if the world has opened up to you again. Now for the long boring story: Hearing loss runs in my family, and while I knew I had hearing issues (thanks, Genetics) I also knew I could ignore it. Which worked until I could no longer pretend that everyone in the world mumbled, and on that day I dragged myself, defeated, to the most highly rated audiologist on Yelp. Yes, it's how I make all of my decisions when venturing into the unknown: closest best shop for taxidermy - Yelp it; closest best Indian restaurant with a drive through - Yelp it; audiologist - Yelp it. I'm totally kidding about the taxidermy shop. Soriya and her team walked me through every part of the process, explaining how the test worked, why the test worked, and how I had been able to navigate through the world with moderate hearing loss by using context and lip reading (is she a knife girl or a nice girl?); which also explained why I was so tired at the end of a long day of students and lectures - my brain was simply working too hard to fill in the sound gaps. They advised a two-phase process to wearing the hearing aids, so that my brain would adjust and I would not be overwhelmed. They showed me charts and diagrams, comparing my hearing to norm, and explained everything from how sound travels to the physiology of sound - which helped me understand what we were doing. We weren't "just getting a hearing aid," we were re-wiring my brain to accept long lost electrical impulses. I followed their instructions, and one day after putting the hearing aids in, I was surprised to discover that sounds were deeper, richer, broader than I had ever thought possible. Had it not been for Soriya's guidance and approach to adjusting the hearing aids, I would have shut them in a drawer and said "thanks, insurance" and pulled them out whenever I wanted sympathy or a good parking space. I'm totally kidding about the parking space.

He was so helpful getting me into my first pair of truly usable hearing devices. He helped me get my first set and they were miraculous. I let 4 years go by without even a check-up. I feared I was gonna get told that my present aids are outdated and I need to spend 7k to replace them. But no, it went much more positively than that. I melted under the kindness and care of new staff at Victory Hearing and Balance. They told me that my aids were still state of the art except for non rechargeable batteries, I found out I can replace parts for reasonable fees and also there is an app that can locate lost devices! The care and attention my adult, disabled daughter received, I believe, saved us from a hospital stay. We made the initial appointment for what we suspected was an ear infection with her primary care doctor at ARC Far West, but because the infection was so severe, she sent us to be seen at the ENT office next door. The convenience of having a specialist next door, was amazing! We were able to walk next door and be seen immediately. I can't tell you how much I appreciated the next level of care at the same site, on the same day. We saw Brian D. Watabe, PA-C. Probably the single most competent clinician we have seen in the last five years. He was incredibly knowledgeable, efficient, thorough, and careful. My daughter was in extreme pain. He handled her like precious glass. I was particularly impressed with how comfortable he was with a person who uses a wheelchair and has cognitive disabilities. He never hesitated to maneuver her chair, adjust her head, or communicate with respect. I can't remember a time when we had an experience like this and we've seen A LOT of doctors.
