I thought I was too young to have hearing loss. After saying things like "huh?", "pardon me?", or "can you repeat that?" several times within a conversation with my teenage kids and them saying "NEVER MIND!" I decided that I needed a hearing test.....and pronto! I needed my kids to continue talking with me, not shutting down due to frustration of my lack of hearing them! Looking for providers in my area, I went to a competitor, but wasn't happy with the service. Appointment time started over 45 minutes Iate and overall I didn't get the right "vibe" there. Continuing to look, I found Cook Hearing and Balance and it was conveniently located....about 2 miles from my house....and I'm SO glad I did!
The process: The hearing test is a quick process, 10 or 15 minutes and you're finished. After finding out I have moderate hearing loss the next question was, do I want to get hearing aids? At the time I was 40 years old, not 70! My perception of hearing aids was the older generation ones where you put them in your outer ear for the entire world to see. Boy was I ever wrong! Lori Cook patiently reviewed different styles with me and I decided on the behind the ear series.
Hearing aids: After deciding on what type of hearing aid to get my next decision was what kind. I went with the ReSound Verso. After programming them, I walked about the door very apprehensive wearing my new set of "aids". My newly improved hearing started immediately on the drive home. The radio blared at me and I had to turn it down almost 1/2 of what it was on the drive over! I heard things I hadn't been able to hear previously....the AC coming on in the house, the clock ticking (yes that drove me crazy!), and being able to hear the TV in a normal volume just to name a few things. These were great hearing aids and would have lasted me longer that the three years that I wore them, however my insurance would cover a new pair and ReSound came out with the LinX model earlier this year. Being a self-proclaimed "techie" I had to try these! Bluetooth enabled to work with Apple products, I was anxious to get them a try.
The ReSound LinX model of hearing aids have far exceeded my expectations! They are a wonderful product! Very easy to sync with my Apple products (iPhone and iPad is what I have). I use the Bluetooth functionality every day on both products. I can stream my phone calls into my hearing aids, which is very helpful while driving as well as when I'm on conference calls for work. I can stream music from both devices as well as watch Netflix on my iPad without disturbing others around me. I recently took a trip and was able to hear a movie quite well while traveling by airplane. The LinX model provides a more natural sound and not as "amplified" as the sounds I was hearing through the Versos. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad, just better with the LinX.
Service: Words that come to mind are EXCELLENT and SUPERIOR! Amy is very professional and will get you setup with your scheduling needs whether it be for your initial hearing appointment, your follow up appointments once you have your hearing aids, or your routine cleanings on your hearing aids. Lori will perform your hearing test, describe the various hearing products available to you if you need them, and really take time to answer all of your questions! I have been a patient here for approximately 4 years now. The customer service is the best you will ever get anywhere....hands down!
