I'm 31 years old, and have noticed slight hearing degradation in one ear. Being a picky audiophile has made it hard to accept the fleeting vestiges of my auditory youthfulness. However, as a realist and objectivist, I decided that the best way for me to come to peace with the very real possibility of hearing loss as I age was to see an audiologist to get an appropriate graph of my hearing as it stands now, and to see what I can possibly do to make the most of my hearing. Let me say that my experience with Estes from the moment I made the call to set the appointment, to the moment I walked out the door, was probably the most pleasant "doctor" appointment I've ever had, ever. My audiologist, Kelli, who performed my audiometry and tympanometry tests, was extremely professional, gentle, and practical. I was quite impressed with the quality of advice she offered, and her objective approach at evaluating my hearing. Kelli was also very assuring, noting that hearing loss is no death sentence, as intimidating as it may be to a picky audiophile like myself. Running a charity that surprises veterans with their dream hunting adventures puts me around guns/shooting all the time and let me tell you, I'm a huge fan of Estes Audiology and the custom digital shooting plugs. With their shooting plugs, I can easily hold a conversation informing the guys and gals about the details of the weapon we present to them while on the range, but what's really cool is that I can also hear what's going on around me. I'm able to have a conversation without risk of hearing damage from the other weapons going off around us and still teach a new shooter, or learn from a more experienced one, right at the firing line. The other added benefit out in the field is the sound magnification. This lets me hear animals walking through the woods before I'm ever able to see them which gives us the advantage, an advantage that sometimes is the edge we need to have a successful trip! I have a high frequency hearing loss courtesy of the United States Marine Corps. As a result I cannot hear constants which affects my ability to comprehend speech. I had tried hearing aids before but they raised all of the ambient sound which did not help. It just made everything louder causing the low frequencies to overpower the high frequencies. I can't thank and recommend Estes enough!! I suffer from Menieres disease, which affects my left ear. I have not had good luck or help from previous ENT or their audiologists! The moment I stepped through the door, I was promptly taken care of and treated! I was fitted with the phonak v-70 and with the great care, knowledge and help I have received, I feel like a whole person again!! We used to drive all the way to New Braunfels just to see them, but were thrilled when the new office opened here. I had a awful experience at an ENT clinic in Austin where they had told me I, "Probably had autism and dirty ears." And I went in there to get hearing aids after years of tubes and ear infections. Literally the same day I was seen, got a hearing exam, and didn't even have a co-pay after telling Kellie I had payed 90$ for the first doctor. About 3 days later I was in hearing aids! My life has honestly been changed. I no longer ask people to "talk in my good ear", I can hear music, and talk on the phone.
