My husband and I had date night at Mio Moro this weekend. Loved the decor and overall atmosphere. Service was great! Food was also delicious. We had the bruschetta, carbonara, and one of the specials. The special was HUGE and we had plenty of leftovers to bring home. My husband enjoyed his glass of wine and cocktail. I ordered curbside. After we got there waiting I called and they said I'd have to come in to get it because they were busy. Then I get home with my food to find the bruschetta assembled so the bread was nasty and soggy. The olive oil they have has an awful bitter taste to it. The carbonara was awful. Hardly any sauce, huge super fatty pieces of meat. And the portion was quite small for the price. I get putting the egg yolk on top for display when serving in the restaurant but when it's to go it really needs to be mixed in when everything is hot. I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars for a couple reasons. Although it is really beautiful inside and service was good, my food was so boring! I got the fettuccine lemone. It was so bland I didn't even eat it. I added shrimp and those were good, but it's only 4 shrimp served with the tale on, so not mixed in or added flavor. So I ate the shrimp, and like 1 bite of the pasta. Also the meal is served with olives and chunks of Parmesan cheese; kinda weird. I'd much rather have bread or anything else. Maybe had I ordered something else I'd be giving a different review, but that being said the menu is limited. Anyway, given the prices and lack of selections I probably wouldn't return. read more

My husband and I went here on a lunch date in the middle of the week since it is always so busy on the weekends. This is hands down my favorite restaurant in the St. Charles area, and we go on weekly dates so we have been to a lot! Michelle was our server and she was so friendly, gave great recommendations, and gave exceptional service. We never felt rushed or pressured at all. From the bread (heavenly!) to our main courses (chicken sandwich and vodka pasta); it was amazing. We had the best tiramisu I have ever eaten for desert, and brought home cannoli for later, which was also the best I've had. This place is phenomenal if you want real Italian cuisine. What an absolutely gorgeous restaurant. Newly renovated - we were at the first opening after renovation. WOW! I can't begin to explain the level of care the management team and staff took into getting this place up. Their opening night was flawless, packed house and their staff didn't miss a beat. I've eaten at Michelin restaurants in Europe that had service not as good as this. Our appetizers were beyond perfection. Fresh sliced prosciutto and fresh made mozzarella pulled table side served with olive oil and fresh garden tomatoes. Better than Italy!! For dinner we had pasta with seafood and the sea bass. Both were exceptionally well prepared, the calamari was perfect! Not easy to get calamari tender in a sauce, and this chef pulled that off perfectly. The sea bass was fresh and perfectly seasoned and lightly browned, the taste was perfection. For desert we had the table side made Tiramisu. The absolute best tiramisu we have ever had, and after spending 6 weeks touring Italy and Sicily we never had better! You do not want to miss out on this place! read more

Came here with 4 other friends. My friend and I both got the agnolotti tartufi. The portion was very small and my friend got way more truffle sauce than I did. The service was not good. We all ran out of water, told the waitress and she never brought us water. We finally got more water when we waved a bus boy down. I really wanted a salad but they were all 15$ + and the waitress said the kitchen couldn't split the order. PLEASE add a side salad at a reasonable price 8-10$ seems fair, but I'm not paying for a salad that costs almost as much as my meal and doesn't include protein. I know the pasta is hand made so that's why it is expensive, but maybe a few options with regular pasta for people who would like to support the business and not spend 30$ on a plate. Also, for the table olives and cheese were provided. We asked for bread which was brought to us which was nice, but we only got one piece each. I would have liked to have another piece with my dinner. Maybe nixing the cheese and olives for some fresh bread would be another alternative for cutting costs? I know it's hard for everyone right now but I won't be back until some menu changes take place. read more

Very nice dining experience... the Ambiance is high-end ..posh yet relaxed. I appreciate the attention to detail and service by our waiter. Every piece of silverware was being shined as we sat, Would be an amazing date night. Fur our appetizer we shared the Beets which was my favorite bite of the evening. It has goat cheese arugula and pistachios and balsamic. AMAZING..sweet, tangy, tender. I loved Agnolotti Tartufi which is a truffle 3 cheese creamy pasta. It was very rich and flavorful, I only wish it had a tad less saltiness (mind you I LOVE Salt). We also wish there was bread for the table. My daughter had the Creste De Gallo Alla vodka which is pasta w/sausage .. it was a very large portion size. For dessert we got the Tiramisu which is served table side. It's a delightful deconstructed tiramisu and was decadent and the coffee liqueur was exquisite with the whipped cream and shower of cocoa powder... lovely meal and a deserved 4.5 stars not 4!! read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. I made a reservation 12 days in advance for my birthday since friends are flying into town. They called me the DAY before my reservation to tell me they are cancelling it. Note- my party was for 11 people, there are not many places you can get a new reservation for 11 the day before. Got a gift card from their website for my parents for Christmas. It was for $100. Today they went to dinner and the staff said it had a balance of $55.06. What a scam. Nobody used the gift card. I bought it on Christmas Eve and it was in his dresser drawer until today. I provided photos of the receipt for my mom to show them and they still would not honor the $100 balance. They said corporate would be able to help but that they were not open. . I was very disappointed that my parents were embarrassed by this situation. The right thing to do would have been to honor the balance. UPDATE: Francesca's corporate investigated the incident and found that half of the gift card balance was used at Fat Rosie's in Frankfort, IL (nowhere near Batavia where my parents live)...Assuming that this was just an entry error because there were a lot of 0s in the middle of the gift card's number. I am very pleased with the way corporate was able to handle this tricky situation. read more

We don't live in the area but came with friends who do. We got there early enough that we were the only ones in the restaurant. There were 6 of us. Not sure what was going on with the hostess, but it took her forever to gather menus for us. The food was just okay. They serve about a quarter of a french loaf of bread cut in tiny 1/8 thick slices. If they're are doing this thinking people are going to just take one tiny slice, they are sadly mistaken. I question whether they have an actual trained chef back there or someone who thinks they're a chef. We had the fried calamari which was crispy but overcooked/chewy and under seasoned. No salt at all. The meatballs were okay but equally under seasoned. Marinara was bland too. Menu is limited and a bit boring. My husband and I had the roasted beet appetizers. We couldn't believe the presentation. Literally, a whole beet cut into 3 parts and put on the plate with some sauce and candied walnuts. Most places at least cut them into bite size pieces. White fish was decent but over cooked. Bolognese was okay but there wasn't enough sauce and lacked any real amount of meat. The pasta was also a bit gummy. Service was weird. The bus boy kept hovering and constantly asked if he could take plates away ... to the point that it was annoying. Our food also seemed to take a long time to come out. Stopped in to get carry out for lunch. Parking was easy to behind restaurant there was a garage. Overall appearance of restaurant was more modern upscale. Staff was attentive. Ordered a few sushi roles nothing fancy and a selection of fish. Bill was on the high side for carryout lunch. I like to check out the sushi bar when I go for sushi but the bar was in kitchen area. If the sushi prep area is clean and organized I have a better feeling for the restaurant. Fish was ok nothing stood out and again I got pretty basic roles(spicy tuna, veggie role, California...) Just came back from dinner at Mio Modo (the new Francesca's) for the first time: must say quite disappointed! Francesca's menu was so good and food was always fresh. The new menu is just not as good, food was just mediocre. Very loud music, you could barely carry on a conversation without talking extremely loud. The dish I had the pasta sauce had overpowering nutmeg flavor (I'm not a fan of nutmeg in my Italian food) All in all, the entire family (6) agreed we will not be back. the hostesses ruined my moms birthday I called and made a reservation early in the day we were running 10 mins late so I called AGAIN as a heads up to the restaurant To which they responded and said "no problem!" we got there and they said our reservation DIDNT EXIST I explained I called twice for our reservation and spoke to someone on the phone neither one of the hostesses acknowledged that we had a reservation or that I called twice ...they sat us by the door so that everyone coming into the restaurant was breathing on our food, when basically the entire restaurant was empty. My mom just had hip surgery and has trouble walking and they sat us at the high tops and we asked to move and they denied us. Visited this newly renovated location. Unfortunately we have good news and bad news. Good news - the service and food was excellent. Chicken liver pate was superb but expensive for the size of the portion. The grilled octopus was chewy but very tasty. However, we were disappointed in some things. They no longer serve their excellent bread and olive oil unless you request and pay extra for it, instead you are given a small dish of olives and a few pieces of solid cheese. Although the new decor is nice, the noise level was awful and unacceptable for a dining atmosphere. We had great difficulty having a conversation between only two of us. If there were four of us, it would have been impossible. This is something that Mio Modo needs to fix. If the noise level isn't addressed, we will be going far less frequently. N.G. read more
