I'm not sure how this place has such high reviews. We called on a Monday night- half of the things we ordered off the menu, the gentleman on the phone said "we don't have it". Out of the items we could actually order (Palak paneer, chicken tikka), everything was sub par. The flavor was lacking, the chicken was over cooked, the paneer was rubbery- even the naan was thick and underdone. The only item that was remotely good was the onion chili kulcha. We stay at the Black Swan Inn a couple times a year and we like to eat at Mint. The food is really hit or miss. Some dishes are subpar and lacking in flavor and spice. Other dishes are very good. My favorite dish is a deep fried cauliflower in a spicy sauce with onions and peppers. You can find it in the vegetarian section of the menu. Unfortunately, the servers tend to be on the grumpy side. I'm grudgingly giving Mint four stars because of its convenience, reasonable prices and that cauliflower dish. read more

I wish they could be reliable on closing, just got turned away at 8:40 when Yelp said they'd be open until 9:30 and they said they were instead closing at 9. This gem would get five stars were it not for the terrible service. The food is amazing and the lakeside ambiance is beautiful. They serve Masala Dosa, one of few Indian restaurants in the region. It is a light, crispy, lentil crepe with potato filling. They also make one of the brightest cilantro chutney dips ever. The palak paneer is one of the best I've had and the naan is light and crisp with a lovely char. Expect mild spice with exceptional nuance and complexity of flavor. Sadly, we, along with several tables around us, were completely ignored by waitstaff. Bravo to the attentive bus staff for keeping us in water and helping us flag our server down and get the check or we might still be there. Be prepared for at least a two hour meal. We were there for almost 3 hours although we could have been more demanding to get out earlier. read more

This is a "gem", as another diner put it. Aside of the lovely lake view, you will find specialties that other Indian restaurants don't even have, from strawberry lassis to saffron-coconut naan to INCREDIBLE tamarind appetizers (either with eggplant or potato) to cardamon chicken. While we haven't traveled the 1.5 hours just to eat here, we have returned to the cute connected hotel for "reading and eating Indian food" weekends. Two weeks ago we had their curry for the first time, and when it was too hot for us, they redid it and took it off the bill! This is not your standard Indian restaurant. The food is *exceptionally* good -- fresh, innovative, made from scratch. There is nothing ordinary about the menu. This is an extremely good place to eat. Moreover, the atmosphere -- in the unlikely location of the Black Swan Inn -- is lovely: there are wooden tables, and a lakeside view. (This is not fancy dining -- but it is a very pleasant experience.) Why, then, the 4-star rating? Because they have great difficulty actually serving the food. We arrived at 7:45pm on a Saturday night (with reservation). Our appetizers arrived at 8:45pm. Our main dishes arrived at 10pm. And we were not alone: many other tables that sat down when we did had similarly long waits. The couple we went with (locals) said that this is not anomalous. So... if you are not in a rush, or if you are eating at a non-standard time, this is an excellent place to eat. read more

I am struck by the reviews. We've been coming to this restaurant (Mint is a new name for an established Indian restaurant colocated with Black Swan Inn) for several years. It used to be great. Then, it was good. Now, it is sub par. Add poor quality meats, the cheapest vegetables (potatoes and a single piece of cauliflower in Vegetable Korma) and every dish was under seasoned, to a dismissive owner who fails to keep track of orders and maintain any semblance of order in the dining room. What was once part of a great experience on our way to Tanglewood, should be skipped altogether. In addition to losing their liquor license, restaurant management fails on every level of a dining experience including seating guests, taking orders, serving food and climate control. When our party of five was seated (with reservations), it was 70 degrees. The fire alarm went off twice as tandoori dishes were taken to tables and by the time our meal was served, sweat dripped from our brow and the window AC said it was 83 degrees. If the food had been as good as it once was, I might have been willing to overlook the fiasco of fails, but I'd stop at McDs before eating here again. Mint lacks everything necessary to an enjoyable meal. read more

We arrived at the Black swan and it was late and were hungry so we decided give Mint a try. Mind you, I normally hate Indian food because everything is full of cumin, pre-prepared and fried. I decided to be open minded as it had been 7 years since I have tried it. We had the chicken Shahi Murg Adraki, shrimp chemeen mango curry and Ragara appetizer. The sauce on the chicken and shrimp dishes were so delicious and fresh. We had to stop ourselves from eating too much and getting sick. The garlic naan was so fresh, you could tell the garlic was chopped that day. All the food is made to order and the owner was flexible about not putting tomato in the shrimp curry. Poorly maintained and bad quality food. The service was worst. We walked in at 2pm and there was no one on the floor. After waiting for 10 mins a man walked from outside stating he can do only take out. I told him we are driving from another state so he told us to sit down and hurry up with the order. We ordered a Chicken tikka masala with rice, 2 masala dosas and 1 uttapam. The Chicken tikka masala was stale and the rice was as if just reheated in the microwave. The masala dosa was undercooked and the third order they forgot to cook. After waiting for like 30 minutes I asked them about the uttapam and the other lady on the flor said oh the chef has left... seriously!!!! Without giving our complete order the chef left!!!! Very bad customer service. I still have them $5 as a tip for dining in. But I would never go back and would never recommend anyone to go back. read more

I've never had such an insanely bad experience with people who work at a restaurant. I am a cook at a restaurant and I understand the industry just fine. I called and ordered a pretty large amount of food (5-6 people's worth) and the food is pretty expensive. On the phone I asked how much it would be, she said "I don't know" and then I asked if I could pay over the phone with a credit card and she literally said "no you will pay when you get here". Ok whatever. I asked how long it would be and she hung up on me. I called back to add extra rice, which she never did. My friend gets there to pay for it. The lady who took my order butchered my name so badly (I spelled it on the phone...) that they couldn't figure out which bill was mine. When they did they STARTED to cook it.. 45 minutes later he got the food. And while he was there HE LISTENED TO SOMEONE ELSE PAY FOR THEIR ORDER ON THE PHONE.(like I requested to do) this was the worst customer service I've ever experienced. The food was very good. Excruciatingly SLOW but friendly service. Reservations are needed if you would like a lake view window seat. We brought our boys ages 7 and 10 who are fairly adventurous eaters. They serve everyone a small appetizer of crackers with mint sauce and chutney. We also had the Chicken Tikka, Chicken Korma, Biriyani, and Bagari Shrimp and we liked everything. Portions were reasonably big but not huge. My boys kept asking to go back for lunch the next day. I got take out. This is the only reason it's not 5 stars. I would say that the flavors were spot on for most of the dishes we got. The paneer tikka tasted a little more like an Italian tomato sauce than it should have? But I mean it was still really good. My only complaint is for the size of the portion and the cost of the meal, I felt like I was spending too much. Most meals do not come with a side of rice. At almost $20 per entree, it feels like too much no matter how good the curry is. Additionally, $4 for one piece of naan was not great. $16 for four pieces was downright bleh. We spent close to $115 for 3 people that didn't include any cocktails or drinks. This was 3 entrees, 3 naan, a side of rice, and one starter. I look forward to going into the restaurant and trying more items. I think the overall experience will be better and the cost might be a little more palatable. read more

Very good Indian food, lovely lakeside view. This isn't an area with much Indian food. In the past, perhaps deferring to local palates, the food here was too bland. There have been some recent improvements. They now have a full bar, which is welcome, and they can adjust the food from spicy to mild. Mint does a good job with all its dishes, and nothing really disappoints. It's a bit expensive, but all the restaurants in this area are, and it's not too unreasonable. I recommend the onion kulcha, kerala fish curry and rosemary nan. read more

Showed up late at night and they sat us anyway. Food was incredible and fast. There were only two staff--one who acted as host, waiter, bartender and cashier and one who seemed to do ALL of the cooking. Not sure how they pull it off but so glad we stopped. We didn't receive one of the items we ordered and were charged for it anyway, but they worked so hard that we didn't even mind. Bad customer service! One of our friends suggested this place. We loved the food the first time we went so we decided to go again. This time we were a party of four. We made a reservation for 8pm for the same evening and they accepted our reservation. We reached at 7.50pm and saw that people who came after us were just walking in. So we went and checked with the grumpy manager and he said they were booked and we should wait. This happened a few more times and then we lost it at 8.40. They had 6 vacant tables and the manager boasted about the restaurant being pre-booked. Restaurant closes at 930 and it was 840 with vacant tables, what are the chances of the guests coming in just before the restaurant closes?! Plus they are mad at us coz we expected decent service.
