May I also suggest providing more than one bar of mini soap bars. It's such a minuscule cost item but would obviate having to repeatedly move the precious one bar from sink to shower. We found the valet staff particularly helpful especially when navigating awkward arrivals and parking needs of our personal guests. Sean was a prince. He supervised an otherwise complicated set of logistics with competence and gentlemanly grace. Another shout out to the manager ( sou?) of the breakfast dining. We watched him rigorously oversee staff and guests while occasionally stepping in when helpful. His leadership is likely responsible for the professionalism of said staff. This is in direct contrast to the staff of the Willard across the street where we took the first breakfast of our stay. This review is written on the piggy back of staying in a wonderful location in Asheville. On paper we had a similar experience; greeted warmly by the valet, then again by the concierge. We also have the similar warm plush robes waiting in the room with a welcome note (it's our anniversary). Both locations also boast the roof top bar. In Asheville I sat and drank prosecco and watched the moon rise and then respectively the sun rise over the city. This is where the Hotel Washington takes the turn and as the reader I suggest you ask "what is the experience I am looking for?" The hotel Washington has a beautiful bar with great team members but it is very difficult to see the monuments. There are artificial flowers and pretty lights to give you a spot for lovely photos (of the artificial flowers) and probably look lovely if you're a content creator on social media. But the bar that overlooks the Washington monument has pink lights that reflect off the windows preventing you from actually looking at the monument. In the morning I walked to get a coffee and returned hoping to sit upstairs and watch the sunrise over the city. Nope! "For security purposes" the roof is locked until 4pm. The 4 stars instead of 5 is there is a very heavy perfume in the hotel lobby. It is very heavy and does not seem to have a purpose other than to "not smell of people or outside". This hotel is lovely! The room is comfortable and offers the lavish elegance of a luxury hotel. But the feel this hotel seems to be aiming for is more of a night club and spot for content creators rather than a beautiful building overlooking the amazing history of our country. His name is Sam and he was so patient with us and took so many photos for us. We really had the best conversation with him. He gave us the history of the hotel as well as recommendations for other places around the city Whenever we needed anything he was right there and beyond accommodating. We will definitely be back and will make a point to ask for him next time. It's pretty rare now to get a server who is hard at work but also will stop and take the time to answer your questions and make genuine conversation.

I've been here for dinner and drinks at Estuary so I was familiar but I am grateful to have stayed here this week. The bed was comfy, not sure it's better than my fave hotel but it did the job. The closet space was excellent, the restroom was nice, no tub in the bathroom but very modern and chic shower. For $800 a night I loved all the extra touches they do like putting water and slippers on the side of the bed. We were able to partake in the food but with Del Friscos, Estuary and all the good eats around we passed on the perk all week. Overall, this hotel is nice. Would definitely stay again. He's bougie so yes he'll be back with me in tow.

I had heard that there are several cherry blossom-themed afternoon teas all over DC that may have better food options, but this was the only one with decor this grand. My main concern was with our seating. I had called ahead of time to ask if they could accommodate my group to have a close seating location close to the cherry blossom tree due to our special occasion. The staff assured me during two separate calls that they would be able to accommodate our request, but upon getting seated, we were seated in the far corner by the bar. It is true that there is a fair view of the cherry blossom tree everywhere in the lobby, but I was disappointed at our far vantage point given the fact that I had called to confirm a close spot to the cherry blossom tree twice in advance. This is because I wanted to originally schedule the premium experience (premium seating, champagne, and fine china), but it was not available to groups larger than 4 and we were a group of 6. The service was otherwise perfectly fine and the portions of food were generous and tasty. We were all definitely full after finishing our savory bites. Our collective favorites were the chicken cherryaki and crab beignet bites, but we all appreciated the diverse offerings. We also had a friend with a peanut allergy dining with us, and they accommodated her easily by separating her pastries onto a separate tiered tray. The views and setting are exactly what you would expect from such an iconic DC property, and getting to experience a space that is typically reserved for private events made the evening feel particularly special. The drinks were also excellent. Sweet, but not overly sweet. But what really stood out was the staff. I do not say this lightly. The service was outstanding. I genuinely wish I had caught everyone's names because anyone working between roughly 4:30 and 7:30 that evening in the lobby, Off the Record, or Top of the Hay deserves recognition and a raise! Every person I interacted with was incredibly attentive without ever being overbearing. What impressed me most was that the staff remembered my schedule for the evening and made sure I left Off the Record at exactly the right time so I could be the first person to step into Top of the Hay when it opened. That level of attention to detail is rare. Beautiful space, great drinks, and truly exceptional hospitality. Furthermore, for a five-star hotel, lacking a proper hot tub and standalone shower is unacceptable. The towels provided are cheap, rough, and feel entirely out of place at this price point. The bathroom ventilation is so old and loud, that I can't even believe it's there. No fridge in the room, only a mini bar that will charge you if you move around mini bar items to place your own drinks. The view of the White House was severely misadvertised. To actually see it, you are required to pay an extra $700 on top of an already steep $600-per-night room rate. The acoustic insulation is non-existent. If anyone is staying in the room above you, forget about sleeping--every single footstep and movement carries straight through. The front desk staff was entirely dismissive. After promising to switch our room to resolve our issues, they dragged us through three separate attempts, wasted hours of our time with non-responsive answers, and then finally demanded we pay even more money to fix their mistake. After we went through, not even a complimentary breakfast or really anything. Shocked that this place is more expensive than Four Seasons, St. Regents, and the kind. This is barely a three star hotel (except location of course). Stay away.

When we mentioned that we wanted it colder, they immediately brought up a small refrigerator for us and even offered a microwave! The location is fantastic--just a block or so from the White House and McPherson Square Metro station, and close to all the monuments.
