I recently purchased a Volkswagen Beetle from Keith Cox sight unseen on-line! Keith responded immediately and answered all of my questions. The reason I am writing this review is that in all of my years of purchasing anything, this one will be remembered! Keith went the extra mile throughout the entire process. He Priority mailed me the title and manual to make sure I would receive it. I arranged to have the car shipped to California and shortly after the pick-up I got an email from Keith stating he did not see some of the small chips in the paint upon his initial inspection and would be mailing me money for touch-up. I stopped in here to have my tail light fixed, not having an appointment and not even sure they could do it on my Volvo. But they told me they could fix it for me, they immediately took my car back. Keith Cox is great! I took my previous Volkswagen Golf TDI to them for service over the 10 years of ownership, including a timing belt, fuel pump and sticky ignition switch. More recently however, Keith himself helped my girlfriend buy a well maintained single owner Jetta TDI from his used lot. When the plates arrived, they even washed the car again. I have never had an Auto Repair experience quite like this one. I would describe it but you would literally not believe some of the details. Keith quickly creates trust and his staff provide a Four Seasons service level except that they do it with with humility and good humor. Can't say enough: unique vehicle, few repair shops really understand it, no parts available and Sarah was searching Russian language websites (unprompted) to find options. They easily fixed small issues I was convinced would require a new transmission. They laid out multi-stage options for a potentially expensive repair quickly and easily. They communicate well and stay inside their quote. These guys have great reviews because they are the real deal. Bring your business there. You will not regret it. read more

Let me start by saying - finding a good mechanic is hard to find especially for a BMW ... moving to a new town after living in Seattle- I was always being over charged and taken advantage of.... This is like a unicorn here!! Keith the owner answers the phone on occasion and clearly cares about the service he provides and it shows. When I arrived at my appointment the guy at the counter held out his hand and said Welcome I'm Tyler! He gave me a run down of what they do and also offered a loaner car?? Huge bonus - When I came to pick it up - it was closing time and Keith was such a sweetheart and said - I'll have someone Monday call you and total you up - what you are letting me leave without paying yet??!!! Maybe I've been jaded from city life but that never happens - the mechanic came out (Austin) and was super informative and told me all he did. More time has pasted and my impression based on personal experiences and first hand knowledge of others who have had their vehicles serviced at Keith Cox indicated a yet declining experience rating. I would like to see Keith Cox succeed as a valuable resource for automotive services in our area and I have returned myself since the previous review for an opportunity at redemption. I feel this was a much more real-world opportunity to shine compared to responding and trying to make good on valid concerns that I have already posted. Unfortunately, my experience while it was not terrible, was not good. It turned out to be an unnecessary inconvenience for us. I could have gone to the local dealer for this service but specifically chose to give KC the opportunity. I provided detailed information regarding what the car needed yet had to speak to the technician twice to clarify. The request and process was not technically complicated and for an experienced technician should not have presented any challenge to understand the request. In addition, the person I coordinated the service with was not the person who processed the transaction when the service was complete. The problem there was that the vehicle was kept longer than committed and not all of the committed services were completed. When this was made evident to the person closing the sale at pickup of the vehicle, no offer to complete the services were made (which I would not have accepted as the agreed time had already passed) a $25 compensation card was offered. This made a not so great transaction even worse, my needs and Keith Cox's commitments were not met; a small KC voucher does nothing to address this. On to the next poor experience. A close friend of ours took their car, which I was very familiar with, to Keith Cox and against my advise essentially wrote a blank check by asking for them to do what the car needs. This opportunity was not missed by Keith Cox. The car is decent looking, fairly high mileage but well maintained, and in good running condition. ~$3000 of service was performed. This one may be somewhat subjective as they were asked to do what needs doing. My problem with this situation is that I looked at what was done and the rates, while I am not going to list the parts and rates for the services I felt a fair amount of this was taking advantage of an opportunity of a gal who didn't know the difference. Opinion... maybe. But as mentioned before, this is a trend that I have experienced myself and heard of from others in the community. Last example. Another close friend of ours takes their car into CK, they are told there is no oil pressure "we took a look and called the technical hotline; determined you need a new engine, would you like to proceed"? No technical detail was provided beyond "engine is toast, do you want a new one". Upon taking the car elsewhere for a second opinion the oil pressure sensor is found visibly damaged and not functioning properly. The sensor is replaced, oil and filter changed and a sample of oil is sent to Blackstone Oil Analysis laboratory with all these details. Speaking with Blackstone they were confident there was no internal engine damage, the oil sample was at 5,000 or more miles (meaning it was a good representative sample); the analysis indicated a very healthy engine. Blackstone said the sample represented "better than typical for this engine model and mileage". That same engine is still running fine. Here is my take on this, Keith Cox does not have experienced mechanics, or enough to cover all the jobs going through their shop. The inexperienced mechanic calls a "I don't know what I'm doing hotline" who diagnoses an engine failure site unseen, engine replacement is advised and offered at a cost higher than the value of the car... Unfortunately I have to stand behind my recommendation to look elsewhere. I suspect there is a disconnect in communication at the front desk, Keith is passionate but I don't know that the service writer shares this quality and a lack of technical expertise behind the doors which are resulting in unnecessary upcharges/services and lack of quality. I share my experiences, both good and bad. I frequently call stores and talk to managers to report exceptional service and leave feedback online to represent quality service, I am not an internet troll or basher. I suggest everyone take every review with a grain of salt. These are my honest experiences here over a significant timeline. I am not interested in debating whether or not my perspective is accurate nor am I trying to serve retribution, this is a record of my experiences and maybe it can be used constructively. read more

Keith, the owner called me and we went through my service records. It appears that my fan belt was not replaced. It probably should have been but I could have insisted on it so I definitely can't hold it against them for not wanting to replace things that looked fine at the time. We took our BMW in for a routine oil change. Our mechanic discovered that there was a crack in the bottom seam of our radiator and it had been slowly leaking. (No leaks on our garage floor at home.) I took the car home and was able to make an appointment for the next day to have the radiator replaced. The next morning when I brought the car in I asked to see the proof. Our mechanic eagerly put the car on the lift and removed the plastic shield underneath to show us. I thought that was great that he was more than willing to show us what was wrong and did not get upset. Keith Cox Autobahn is earning my trust more and more. I went in because my rear brakes were worn down. When I went in I let the gentlemen know this was the issue so diagnosis would be low and they could get to the issue quickly. Came back the next day and the diagnosis alone was over $150 and to fix them would cost $935. As a broke college student, I couldn't afford the brakes. I bought the parts which only costed $100 and I drove home and fixed it with my father in two days. After doing the work firsthand and seeing the process, I think it is completely unacceptable to inflate prices so heavily. There is absolutely no need to charge so much for labor when I could do it myself and not even have all of the tools that make the job more convenient. I would still work on those stubborn brakes in the rain and mud again to not give you a dime. Really disappointed in your ethics. People need brakes to drive safely for themself and the general public. Seriously disgusted read more

I love Keith, and his Autobahn. I have been getting my cars serviced by him since I came to Bellingham in 2006 and he has done me nothing but right. Keith is upfront and honest about his cars and his pricing. When I wonder how he makes a buck, I realize its because people like me keep coming back. In 2008 I bought a used Jetta from him. Because of previous experiences elsewhere I had planned to buy from the nearest CarMax in Stockton CA. Keith had a CarMax car at a CarMax price! Still loving that car. In 2010 I had a dead battery that I was jumping in my garage then with hospital security, where I work, I was so busy I couldn't get to a garage during business hours. Keith had his people come out and replace the battery while I was working! No extra charge and got a good price on a battery. When I thanked him, his response was "that's just what we do". I'll vouch for that. Most recently he has helped me with my Mazda CX9. First in the buying process by having the car, which was in Renton, checked out by a friend. Now on an ongoing basis with the routine maintenance, since there is no Bellingham dealer. You can take what Keith+Co say to the bank. I have brought both my 1998 Mercedes and my 2001 Ford Focus to Keith Cox Autobahn and could not be happier. When I finally brought my Focus in, it had a laundry list of problems. Dan talked to me about all the repairs and told me which ones were critical and which ones could wait. My father is a mechanic in Wisconsin. So I called him with the information and the quoted price. My father completely agreed with what they were saying and the pricing. I was able to get my car up and running again in no time. They even washed and vacuumed it for me. I have been so happy driving my car since it was repaired that I almost had my kids make them a thank you card. We have brought both out vehicles to other service centers in the area. Both seemed to take a long time doing the diagnostics. And the first repair did not always solve the problem. Or we had issues after wards with the repairs that were done. At Keith Cox Autobahn, we received prompt diagnostics and never had any problems with any of the repairs. I hope my cars do not need repairs anytime soon, but if they do I will always bring my vehicles back to this shop! read more

Our daughter goes to college in Bellingham so it is a challenge helping her get certain things done from long distance. She found Keith Cox Autobahn originally as the Mercedes shop in town. She's been taking her car there for over a year now. I had the opportunity to work with them the past two months. First off going in there to chat with them was a great experience. The office is clean and everyone was smiling and welcoming. They didn't make you feel dumb for any questions you asked. We scheduled an oil change and asked them to look at the 'check engine' light situation. Turns out the car needed a new catalytic converter. It took several appointments to get the car fully repaired as we chose to have significant maintenance done at the same time and there were some speed bumps along the way, but overall I was very pleased with their service and commitment to getting the job done right. They even had my daughter's car towed to Bellingham (2 hours away) after she became concerned to drive it while in a mid-repair state over the holiday break. They lost money doing this job for us, but they did not lose my business. We will continue to go to Keith Cox Autobahn and know we can trust our daughter will have a dependable car after they are done with any work on it. Thanks Keith and Dan! read more
