I have always taken my car to Subaru dealership for service and this time decided to go outside the dealership to have my front end assessed. Bruce Cox had good reviews so I brought my car in. I was told I had to replace my front passenger side axel, tie rods and front and rear differentials, transmission fluid service and a little more. I was called and notified of what was to be done, provided an estimate for the work and told my car was already on the lift and they could start now. Since bad weather was forecasted and I basically work out of my car I needed my car back asap and was worried about not fixing it and having to deal with driving in ice and snow. I approved them to do the work. I got my car back in two days and paid a fortune. my first concern was that the "diagnostic fee" wasnt applied to the overall work costs, It was in addition to. Not my normal experience but what could I do? they refused to discount the Dx fee. I paid and drove home. The following day of driving my car, the front end was vibrating so much and I had evidence of an oil leak on my driveway. So I took it back in. They told me nothing was wrong, showed me a video of the underside of my car and said there was no evidence of an oil leak. So I picked my car back up and within a few days the noise that brought me in the first place was back. In the meantime I contacted Subaru dealer had them assess what was going on and they reported the driver side axel was bad and needed replaced highlighting that the rear differentials were over filled and leaking, my transmission fluid still looked dirty despite the service I had done at Bruce Cox and the cost for fixing the driver side axel and tie rods at Subaru was 1/2 the cost!!!!! and the Dx fee was applied to the overall cost of the work done. I feel that I was financially taken advantage by Bruce Cox and despite the work they did having a "warranty" I don't trust taking back. Super unfortunate for my wallet and lost faith in them. Their "Subaru Head Gasket Special" sounded reasonable starting cost at about 1500$ for a '13 Outback with oil in the radiator. When it came down to it though, they really did not want to do the work. The two options then became either a 7000$ rebuilt engine or a 12000$ new one. What's special about that? Paid the diagnostic charge which was perfectly fair and went elsewhere. I brought my 2006 Subaru Legacy GT wagon in for a 100,000 mile service. They reliably & quickly addressed all the issues that I had, offered a loaner, which I did not need. The only issue I had was the alignment was a bit pricey. After the alignment, the car pulled a little. I went back & explained this. They acknowledged it as well & recommended that I have the tires balanced. I did & that solved the problem. The car runs like the day I got it. Very Good work read more

First let me say that I have a general mistrust of car dealers in general. Quite a few years ago we started looking to downsize from our mini van. We looked at many places, and had not even considered a Volvo. After stopping in, meeting James, and test driving a 2002 V70 we made deal, including trading in the mini van, that was very fair. I started to like James. We bought an extended warranty at the time, and felt it prudent to have Bruce Cox do the service as well. A couple years later I started looking for a more comfortable car to replace the Chevy Cavalier I was using to commute to Seattle. Again, after some looking around we ended up talking to James and making a fair deal on a 2002 S60. We had Bruce Cox do the service on that as well. A few years later, the S60 was totaled in a T Bone accident in which no one was injured. I decided I wanted another S60,and this time went to see James first, and he happened to have a 2005 S60 T5 on the lot that was exactly what I was looking for. Once again, made a fair deal, and had them start doing the service. That car to date I have put on over 140,000 miles and it is still going strong with a total of 205,000 miles on it. After the last repair, Bruce himself even called with a followup to make sure the work was done to my satisfaction. The 02 V70 was totaled in another accident, again with no injuries, after we put close to 150,000 miles on it. The only reason we didn't go to James for a replacement was because we replaced with a pickup. And since then we have replaced that pickup, and have had several poor experiences with car dealers in the process. I continue to have most of my service and all of my repairs done there because in over 300,000 miles put on the cars I have had serviced there, I have not had a bad experience. I'm thinking the next car will be another Volvo, and will most likely buy again from Bruce Cox Imports, because they are the ONLY car dealer I really feel I can trust. UPDATE 10/23/18 Since last review I now have 230,000 on the 05 S60 and still having Bruce cox do the service and repairs. Ended up buying a ford Escape from another dealer rather than a Volvo,but will be having Bruce Cox do the service on that vehicle. read more

Recently purchased a used Volvo C30 from Bruce Cox imports, and had a completely pleasing experience. James was most helpful in holding the car for us to test drive on a Saturday (we were coming up from Seattle). It was about the most low-pressure sales pitch ever. He just handed us the keys and said go drive it around. They also held the car for a small deposit for a few days while we got our act together. I plan to take the C30 back up there for service because I had such a good impression of their business, even though it's a fair drive up there. One of the main techs sold me his car as a "specialists maintained" Volkswagen. This car was a PILE! Several things he claimed to have "fixed or maintained" broke down within the first couple weeks of owning it. Not even a couple months later and several thousand dollars in the hole, the engine blew. He refuses to reply to messages or calls and the office made it very difficult to make any appointments with it so I chose other garages that were unpleasantly surprised with the work done on the car at Bruce Cox. read more

If your looking for a service mechanic in Bellingham for your Volvo. I highly recommend looking somewhere else. I suggest King Volvo even though King Volvo pricing is going to be the same. There is also Rainbow Volvo worth trying. Ever since the new management took over the service center I would have to say that its all about the bottom-line and profit! Charging 178.00 for a 65.00 sensor. I just cannot trust this place has your best interest at heart and is acting as a Volvo service center vs a good ole hometown service center that does not look to gouge you in every way shape and form. Funny yes, they will wash your car but as the reminder note in the loaner, which was a crappy run down ford "make sure you fill up on gas as it cost us 4,000 a year to top of the gas if you dont put gas in it." I drove up to this shop from Seattle to look at a Volvo wagon they listed on Craigs List. The car didn't work out for me but I had a good experience dealing with Bruce and his staff. He was straightforward about the car, its pluses and minuses, the issues common to the model and so on. If the occasion arose again to look at a used foreign car and they had one on the lot, I wouldn't hesitate to deal with them. read more

I've been going there for four years for maintenance on my beater '97 outback. They do the job well, explaining anything major without any pressure, and at a fair price. Loaners are sweet (even if driving that PT Cruiser makes me feel like I'm driving a Hot Wheels car) and it's great that they wash the car if they have time. read more

I just had my second service done here on my 2004 S60R and they're a great shop. Everyone is really knowledgeable about my car even though the R is a bit rare. Both repairs were quick and both times it turned out to be a way smaller problem then I thought initially so my thanks to them for taking the time to find the actual smaller problem even though I was ready to shell out a lot of dough. read more

This place had the most impressive service I've ever had with an oil change. They arranged an early drop off and a loaner car so I could make it to a meeting. They checked my tires and then repaired a nail in one that I didn't even know was there. Lastly they ran my car through the wash. All included for the price of an oil change that was cheaper than what I've paid in awhile! read more

First of all, I don't know anything about cars because I'm just not that interested. My Subaru dealer informed me that I would need to have my head gaskets replaced soon and provided a quote range that, although I trust them and they've done all my work, I thought was high. For kicks I went to Bruce Cox for a quote and they were more reasonable (and provided a loaner car). More importantly, Geraldo came across as very straightforward and honest. He really seemed interested in customer service and making me happy. I was planning on also going to Harmony for a quote but, after reading all of the reviews, decided to go with my gut and had Bruce Cox do the work. It's only been a couple of weeks but I've been very happy with their work. Also, I greatly appreciated that Bruce followed up with a call to ensure I was satisfied with the work. I bought a car here. I will just say that it was not a Volvo, Subaru, or Lexus. They do have other cars that were trade ins from time to time. The car was fine, the price was fine, BUT THEY SOLD MY INFORMATION!!! Stay far away from this business. Took my Volvo there for a "software reprogramming". Parts department quoted a reasonable rate so I went ahead with the work. Went to pick up the car the cost had more than doubled with no notice prior to work being performed. Service manager was very rude from the beginning and insisted the doubling was my fault because I did not have all my work done there. If he had simply apolized or attempted to explain it would have been fine but he said I was to blame. Spoke with another service department worker and asked to have the car demonstrated to insure that the original problem was fixed before shelling out my hard earned money. He flatly refused. Spoke to another worker who agreed to demonstrate that the problem was fixed. (windows would not roll down.) Not only was the original problem not fixed, but the service they had performed and charged me for introduced a new problem. (the sunroof was no longer operable.) This was in the midst of a record setting heat wave in our area. So they charged me more than double what they said they would, and made the car more unbearable during a heat wave. I asked to speak to Bruce Cox, the owner. He was quite rude and condescending. He would do nothing for me, other that offer to show me the receipt for his 12,000$ car programming machine. Not sure how that was supposed to help. In short, one of the most unpleasant business experiences of my life. Avoid Bruce Cox Imports at all costs. read more
