Very good (not great) in what seems like a sea of mediocrity in this cuisine in the area. One of the best I've found so far (15yrs).

Average Chinese food. Nothing outrageous but I do really like they're cold noodles. I'd rather have Lu's kitchen on 88..

We come every Christmas Day and then a couple times throughout the year (for the past 12 years or so). Every time we enter, they greet us with a hello, seat us at the same table each time, and they even remember our past orders--we practically don't even need to tell them what we want. This amazes me considering we only come a few times each year. The food is always delicious, and I love that they still serve vegetable dumplings here since I'm hard-pressed to find them anywhere else.

I had hoped Dim Sum Restaurant would be better than what the average rating on yelp had graded it, but upon arrival into the parking lot, i saw two cars parked. I jokingly said 1 was the chef and the other was the host... Unfortunately I was right. Not a single soul was frequenting the establishment for lunch time, another red flag in my head. The dreary interior I am used to. I'll visit a hole in the wall and eat the food no questions asked. However when the tables are sticky, the menus leave a nasty dirty grease film on your fingers, that should be another tell tale sign to run. The prices were insane. each dim sum dish started at around $4.95 each. Even the most expensive Dim sum eateries, they run around $2.95 to $4.50 for a large dim sum dish. We ordered the classics Sui Mai, Har Kow, Black bean spare ribs, some fried dumplings, and I got a chicken corn egg drop soup. The food was terrible. Har Kow was probably from the multipack I can buy at the local chinese supermarket, the big 20 package that you get from the freezer. The Siu Mai came 3 per order.. not 4... Black bean spare ribs were 100% frozen, and you could see the congealed cooked blood in the sauce and on the spare ribs. Egg drop soup had an ungodly amount of yellow food coloring in it. The only saving grace was the Fried Dumplings. while small in size, they were tasty and edible. All in all, even if you're desperate for chinese dim sum. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST.

Website: 9/10 It has the motif of the bamboo plants in the background, giving the website a taste of East Asian aesthetics without overwhelming the eyes. It is easy to navigate and brings you to a menu with a large selection of dishes organized into specific categories. They even have a chili pepper icon beside the spicy ones. However, none of the menu items have images showing what they are. Brand: 6/10 The interior gave Garden Taste an underwhelming environment. The sign outside looked faded, while the menu items above the counter had various degrees of outage. I will say that the counter had Lego sets functioning as holders for basic utilities, made by the staff's daughter. There was also I presume a play area in one of the corners of the establishment. So, I can see how the establishment has accommodations for children. As a Chinese restaurant, it does fit the aesthetics of showcasing Chinese New Year in a variety of party favors and signs. Ambiance: 7/10 For a small, Chinese restaurant, it definitely had enough space for a handful of tables. It does have the potential to get noisy during the near-noon rush. The tables also have marks, though nothing too dirty. The condiments and plastic utensils are always in abundance. Service: 10/10 The staff patiently asked me specific questions about the meal, whether I wanted white rice or fried rice, of if I wanted chopped sticks or a fork. She also helped me pronounce the name of my order, the Moo Goo Gai Pan, when I drew a blank. Wait Time: 10/10 Our meals came in time without delay or interruptions. Food: 10/10 I ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan with white rice. It steamed throughout the time I ate, yet did not cause a major problem with every bite. The plastic container practically captured the heat and steamed the entire dish. The meal presented itself in a tightly compacted container. None of the ingredients needlessly poured out. The earthy smell of Moo Goo Gai Pan perfectly represented the standard of East Asian cuisine. I never had Moo Goo Gai Pan, but I can say that this dish made a good first impression on me. The sauce particularly the hearty taste that made the soft, leathery chicken and vegetables easy to eat, with the mushrooms helping to bring much of that earthy taste. The rice complemented the dish to provide sturdiness. The abundance of vegetables helps make the dish very filling. The aftertaste stayed with me in a positive way. There are plenty of menu items organized differently on the menu pamphlet so as to ensure that you are not confused about what to get. Worth The Money?: 7/10 I can definitely say that Garden Taste is not that difference from any Chinese restaurant in terms of the bare-minimum aesthetics while also having a large selection of menu items. With those being said, I can see potential in this establishment evolving with time. While the ambiance did not work in its favor, the food definitely outweighed any serious grievances I may have. I would suggest that Garden Taste make itself more distinguishable as a Chinese restaurant. Chinese culture is not monolithic, since a lot of Chinese restaurants are specifically Cantonese-based, including this one. Americans generally know very little about China, or even the difference between Han Chinese and Cantonese cuisine. I do not know if the possibility exists to emphasize those differences in the menu. Furthermore, if the establishment were to continue to use the kid-friendly aesthetics as exhibited in the interior, then perhaps they could reflect the brand as a whole in the form of bubbly letters and bright colors. I would not say this as a serious recommendation, rather as a way of making Garden Taste Chinese Restaurant stand out as a unique Chinese restaurant. Finally, I would suggest that each of the menu items on the website have an image accompanying the name so people know what to get. Rating: 4/5 Stars I had a pleasant experience with Garden Taste and I got to try a new dish without too much trouble. Recommend To...
