This place is great, if you like noodles. It's what they do fantastically well, quickly, and cheaply. Just don't stray too deep into their menu of Chinese take-out standards, and you'll be happy, well-fed, and none too poorer. I love their stir-fried noodles, they're somehow perfectly toasted. Other selections like the egg drop soup or the ma-po tofu are good but somewhat bland and lackluster. The dim sum and apps are above average - crispy, zesty, savory, mwah! Been coming here since I was a kid, have had everything from razor clams to abalone to durian and it's always good. Best fried rice and noodle dishes in the city but my favorite at the moment is probably the Szechuan chicken and potato. Service is quick and very nice as well. Don't be surprised if some menu items come out a little differently every time you order them just trust that they'll be delicious either way. This is good for delivery when I've committed to not leaving the house. It's open on Sunday when most other Chinese delivery spots near me aren't open and Sundays sometimes happen to be the nights that I want takeout. So I settle for Ming's. Typically, I go for an egg roll and beef lo mein or seseme chicken (if I'm feeling basic). I also often go for Chinese takeout when I'm sick - for wonton soup - but Ming's is lack luster. The broth isn't very complex or flavorful, which is really the point of it since I'm ordering mostly the broth so that's a bummer. From the lo mein order I got 3 meals! It's a big portion, which makes it great for leftovers (I prefer to reheat it on the stove versus microwave). I really love Ming's! It's a small nook-in-the-hole Chinese restaurant right outside the South Wedge and has remained awesome for at least 10 years. I would say of all things, they really specialize in noodles and allow for what feels like a million different combinations with all of the different meats and noodle-types they offer. Seriously, there's like 20+ different noodle types and at least 10 different meats/seafood/poultry you can order with it. Then they just work their magic with whatever sauce you like and you'll be whisked away to a world of happy eating! I'm particularly fond of udon and the mai fun definitely! For appetizers, there's also a ton of winners - salt and pepper squid, salt and pepper tofu, pan fried pork dumplings - all really delicious! It feels like the same family has been running it these past 10 years because I always see the same chef and head-of-house whenever I go in and they are the sweetest people ever. Great noodle house in Rochester. Food has always been excellent. Try the szechwan wonton appetizer (it's in a peanut sauce). Prices are extremely reasonable (super cheap!) The interior decor leaves a lot to be desired. And the exterior of the restaurant needs a serious facelift (as does everything else along this stretch of Clinton). I give this place only 2 stars, here's why: -I was not impressed with the service- the lady asked us numerous times if we were ready to order a few minutes apart as if she was in a hurry to get us out. - I ordered the chicken phat Thai- I was not overly impressed with it. The chicken had some fatty parts to it which had me cautious every time I wanted a piece of chicken in the dish. The sauce did say it was on the sweeter side but I figured it would be true to more of a peanut taste which it was not, the sweetness was a bit overbearing and took over the rest of the flavors in the dish. - The service wasn't spectacular with having to ask for refills on water, not asking how the food was and just gave us the check without asking if we would like anything else. First of all, why is Mings called Mings II in yelp? Mings Is my favorite restaurant in Rochester. When I have a noodle craving, there is absolutely no better place to go in Rochester. Start with the salt and pepper squid or tofu, the gyoza are fantastic as well. All the special noodle soup dishes are amazing. Generally I just ask for the chef's choice. I was hesitant to write this review but here we go. The food here is good; sometimes. Sometimes it's over/undercooked; it really depends on what time of day you catch them. It lacks consistency but when it's good it's a solid meal that you can get for a reasonable price. I happen to like the dumplings but there was one occasion where they forgot the sauce, another occasion when the sauce tasted like balsamic vinegar etc. I tend to get chicken dishes which can vary in consistency depending on how busy the place is. If they are busy add 15/20 minutes to whatever time they tell you on the phone. Usually I end up waiting for my food regardless of the time I show up. There isn't ever any apology for my wait; I just sit there like an imbecile while they tell me that mine is up next. For those reasons I would be ok with 3 stars for this place. But that isn't enough to warrant a 1-Star review oh no. For that you need to make some other considerations. It's been mentioned in other reviews that the staff is rude. It goes beyond that. They're ungrateful; they don't want your business. Allow me to explain: I've been coming to this spot roughly twice a month for the last 2/3 years. Today the owner "Larry" informed me that he didn't like my dog on the derelict property across the street from him. (Which he apparently owns). FYI I walk past that eyesore everyday, and rarely are we on his property (however I will concede that we do use the sidewalk adjacent) but he was insistent . This was after I purchased my lunch and he had taken my money. Convenient he didn't have much to say before taking my money. Only after did he work up the confidence to tell me in no uncertain terms that he didn't like my dog near his eyesore. It's par for the course in this place; he's rude and the lady at the counter is a shrew. Additionally the price seems to fluctuate depending on who is ringing you up. If it's the guy it's 2$ for a small container of white rice, the lady is a 1.25. I guess I pay an up charge for the privilege of him serving me the rice. To boot they've failed numerous health inspections. I've put up with their uncouth and sullen attitudes for far to long. They don't post their hours anywhere and are closed periodically with no warning at all. The inside of the restaurant was probably nice and quaint at one point but it now looks like the kind of place that would fail a health inspection; it isn't difficult to see. I feel bad for the people who sit down for a meal in there; it's not an environment that's welcoming or warm. It reminds me of a busy street where people are yelling at one another. It's never not busy or stressful in there. When I read the inspection notes they mentioned as recently as August that they had three critical violations; in the areas of food storage. That means that the food you eat; could be tainted by other food. Stop. Pause; and re read that last sentence because it's important. In summary; the food is inconsistent; but good when they aren't busy. The staff is rude, it's egregious. The restaurant is dirty. And they've failed two health inspections in three months with multiple critical violations. (As recently as August 17). read more

The pad thai is not very good because let's face it- China and Thailand are two very different countries. Shame on me for ordering it. Everything is usually $7 a person and the portions are huge. So what's not to love? Well, the cook who was continually wiping his runny nose on his hand and continuing to cook/touch food (sans gloves- I'm talking raw dog). Ming's can also be considered as a neighborhood restaurant for me, and I came upon it completely by coincidence while working on a summer home renovation project. After having ordered take-out on three separate occasions, the only positive attribute of Ming's that I can think of is that it stays open until pretty late during the week. Ming's is just a hole in the wall seating at max 12-15 but the small size makes for quality food. My friends and I love Ming's. We often eat there before we go to the Cinema Theater. Pros: Ming's offers a fair number of vegan options; the female co-owner (who is also the waitress) is very nice; and the place has a friendly & homey vibe to it. My favorite dishes include ma la tofu, tofu with ginger & scallions, sesame tofu, eggplant in garlic sauce, and kung pao tofu (some of these aren't listed on the printed menu, but they'll make 'em for you, if you ask). Cons: Their quality-control is lacking. Most of the time the food is excellent, but sometimes it's not so good. They often seem to have trouble getting the salt content right. On-the-street parking can be tough. When you're dining at Ming's, it's easy to watch the cooks in action -- they cook right behind the counter. They're very quick, and they never measure anything. The problem is that sometimes they put in too much salt (or not enough), or not enough garlic, or whatever. So the dishes are hit-or-miss. Also, if you ask for something to be prepared mild, sometimes it's so mild that it hardly has any flavor, and sometimes it's just as hot (spicy) as the regular version of the dish. Attempted to order here via grubhub. The original time of order was 45-60 minutes which was reasonable. The order was placed by 1915. I got a text which informed me that the order would be delivered between 2020 and 2030. By 2020 I didn't receive a follow up text which is abnormal. 2030 and its still not here. 2040 and I call to have an employee tell me they had just spoken of my address and that its on its way. 2110 and STILL no food. I call again only to hear that, somehow, the order from grubhub didn't appear until then, despite the fact that the employee I spoke to at 2040 stated she had gotten it. They asked if I'd like to wait or cancel the order. Waiting would take another 20 minutes. Sweet deal guys. I know it's a snowy night but that's ridiculous. Get your act together. read more

We last lived near Ming's II over three years ago, and there are several Chinese restaurants closer to us now, but we still go out of our way to get Ming's. The noodles are great, but honestly we just like the standards - beef w/ broccoli, chicken chow mein, etc., and they do them far better than anyone in town. The place is very small, so don't expect to show up with a party of more than six and have anywhere to sit. Love hole in the wall joints and I was impressed with Ming's the first time I had went and the service was fine but food was delicious and mouth watering. So I defiantly expected the second time to be to par. I was extremely disappointed. The food was alright not that exciting. I had the miso soup, dumplings, and the vegetable rice, general tso chicken with rice. The food decent but didn't taste as well as the first time. My biggest issue though and the reason for such a low rating in the review was the service. The lady who took our order took her sweet time (mind you we were the only people there) and spoke in a very rude and dismissive tone. I understand a general culture difference but at least smile at your customers and they can sense if you try to make the comfortable but I felt uncomfortable and unwelcome completely. While we waited for our food she went off to another table sat down and started eating lunch with other people there and never checked up on us until the food was ready. I would have really appreciated if they could have just asked us one more time before they started if we needed anything, just some kind of courtesy would have been nice. Super meh. I ordered the kung pao shrimp dinner special and my husband ordered the shrimp in lobster sauce dinner special. Mine was really spicy, but didn't have a lot of flavor, so it wasn't enjoyable. Oh, but it had a lot of veggies (something the menu doesn't show). My husband's was odd, it seemed to have an egg-like sauce, but runny egg (idk if that's how it's supposed to be), and just peas. Maybe we ordered the wrong things? Idk, but we were disappointed. They serve 3 types of chicken wings!! The menu is extensive so make sure you know the difference between your noodles. You can ask to see the noodles to confirm. For example chow mein noodles in California are lo mein noodles here in New York. Chow mein here is something completely different. During my last visit, I ordered a lunch special and an order of chicken wings. 1. They make beef and broccoli in a red sauce. Not brown. That was weird. 2. Was charged .75 extra for the chicken wings. When I asked her why she said I was wrong. When I showed her the difference in price in the menu, she said the menu was wrong, to which I responded, "What???! Okay lady. Change the menu." Ming's on South Clinton (NOT to be confused with NEW MING on Monroe) is our go-to place for American-Chinese food. The service is fast. Kelly, the owner is quite friendly. I used to love this place, but if my experience today and the majority of recent reviews posted here are anything to go by, this place is sliding downhill. I ordered a pork Singapore mei fun noodle, and it was at best mediocre. They were stingy with the meat and Chinese vegetables, but they sure put in a LOT of zuccini and summer squash, which are a) NOT Chinese, and b) extremely cheap this time of year. I also ordered a side of tom yum soup, and once again, it was about half cheap squash, with very few traditional vegetables. What a gyp! I mean, I'm all for using fresh, local vegetables, and I might even try this combination at home, but not for paying customers who are looking for something at least a little exotic. Filling your dishes with the cheapest crap you just bought at the public market is NOT the way to get repeat customers. I spent $10 for lunch, and felt I only got $5 worth of food! This might be the way to run a school cafeteria, but not a for-profit restaurant. And, while we're talking about the place, would it kill them to at least TRY cleaning the place up a bit? The floor was beyond dirty, it was FILTHY! It obviously hadn't been even swept (much less actually mopped) in days! The place is a pigsty! Sorry, I take that back-I've seen pigstys that were cleaner than this place! Well, this place used to be good for a quick, cheap meal, but it's no longer cheap, clean, or very good it seems. Okay so I never write these reviews but last night was so disgusting. I ordered ramen and was craving fries (I know weird combo don't judge) When I was eating the fries I noticed a black HAIR in them (I'm blonde). So of course grossed out I switch to my ramen and started eating that instead to find ANOTHER BLACK HAIR in that too... honestly I have never been so grossed out. I used to love getting food from here but after last night I don't recommend this place to anyone. And what a waste of an entire dinner because not only could I not eat either I thought I was going to throw up finding them, especially in my soup. Honestly would give -10 stars if I could. Singapore noodle with shrimp is the bomb. That's my go to food. My fiance loves their sesame beef. My son can put away one of their miso soup bowls, and they are huge... he LOVES them. Mings is a gem that is underrated. They have some of the best noodle dishes I have ever tasted. All their noodle dishes are good, and they have an amazing selection for their noodles as well. The appetizers are really good, i usually get the salt and pepper squid, and they never dissapoints. Also, their bubble tea is surprisingly good, not amazing but pretty good for Rochester standards, and for the price (3$) you really can't complain. The only reason thats preventing me from giving this place 5 stars is the inconsistency of the food.
