    Deluxe Veggie Sandwich
    Ricardo M.

On my birthday my wife and I drove up north to spend some time and meet with our son in Rio Rancho. It was early afternoon on September 15 a rainy day but I wanted to come here for my birthday. This place is so representative of Madrid, the old mining town, and it is the most popular place that offers live music several nights a week. Both my wife and son ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and I ordered the Deluxe Veggie Sandwich. I ordered their House Margarita and my son ordered their Prickly Pear Margarita. Their House Margarita for $8 is a great deal and it tasted very good. The server was pleasant but she forgot to bring us the chips and salsa as an appetizer. After we eat our sandwiches my wife asked the server for a slice of carrot cake to share with a candle to celebrate my birthday. The server brought the cake without the candle, apologizing that they didn't have any. Really? The men's restroom is small and there was no soap. I told the server but it was never replenished. That is my pet peeve in a restaurant, when you mention to the staff that the restroom needs attention and it doesn't get corrected or any issue for that matter. The details is what makes the difference and that is why I didn't give them a higher rating.

I will say this was our first stop going to Santa Fe and it was wonderful! The staff was welcoming, the ambiance is fun and we had great live music. My Dad enjoyed his brisket taco platter and husband enjoyed his shaft brisket melt. The waiter recommended the fish and chips for me and I loved it! We all had a great time here. We walked around the restaurant and they have a cantina section where you can enjoy drinks outside and it had a train out there! I thought that so cool. You will not be disappointed.

Angus Burger with cheese and bacon! The Mad Chile Burger was a close second to this one.

After walking around town and window shopping, we were hungry and thirsty. The mineshaft was a great option. Service by Debbie was excellent and fun and the food & beverages were quite good. Burgers were the mainstay but there are some surprises...good surprises. Appetizer Crawfish Boudin Balls were excellent. The entrees, (9oz Prime Rib, Angus Bacon Cheeseburger and the Green Chile Mac-n-Cheese were all excellent...meat was cooked to requested temps, and the appetizer and MacNCheese were smoking hot! The remoulade sauce for the Boudin Balls was rich and spicy; the Green Chile Mac was spicy, and creamy and crispy, with the add on bacon adding the right touch. The Mineshaft had live music in the adjoining space and great cocktails on weekends, too. Give this place a try. Definitely!

Well, I've got to run to keep from hidin', And I'm bound to keep on ridin'. And I've got one more silver dollar, But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no, Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider... We celebrated the weekend w. a fun ride up Turquoise Trail to the mountain town of Madrid.. We walked this village enjoying their shops & homage to the Film "Wild Hogs" filmed there. Though our "Fat Boy" bike has transferred to a younger rider, we're still livin brighter.. We settled in at the upstairs open patio of the.. "Mine Shaft Tavern".. We slowly scarfed down a large plate of Chile Fries (home cut potatoes crispy fired w. "Christmas" red/green chile w. cheese). Quite scrumptious. Washed down w. a tall glass of "Long Island Ice Tea" by the Lass. And a glass of "Pilsner Beer" by the Lad. A local band played for what seemed like just us, hitting jazz notes appreciated by these vintage Folk..:) This Mine Shaft Tavern has great eats and tunes for everyone. Madrid is a nice getaway scenic ride. And I don't own the clothes I'm wearing, And the road goes on forever, And I've got one more silver dollar, But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider. Best, Avram Frmrbiker Jr.

Went with a group for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Highly recommend the encaustic art museum beforehand if heading from Santa fe. Food was delicious. Service was good. Atmosphere was decent. Not sure if we sat in the original bar space as it is a large complex. I had the asada tacos as they were a special. They also had several oyster themed specials which is a little weird in April on New Mexico but whatevas.

We stopped here while passing through Madrid on Labor Day weekend, and the whole town was buzzing! The tavern itself wasn't too busy that we couldn't find a seat. We weren't expecting too much once we sat down, but we were pleasantly surprised at how good everything was! The food exceeded expectations for sure! I got the BLT, which also had avocado on it and it was amazing. So were the fries! The food was amazing and we had wonderful service from Alex!

When promoting ChatGPT to generate a possible itinerary visiting Santa Fe, this place was recommended. It was a great stop, especially as the restaurant is connected to a an artist community. Hatch chile basket was a good start to the meal, lightly battered with ranch dressing. The mad chile burger is there staple and glad I went for it. Traditional burger with a hatch chile jam along with another tempura hatch chili. It really was a tasty burger with the quality of the meat coming through. Service was quick and attentive! It's in an old mining building, so that alone adds to the ambiance of dining room. Parking is difficult- be patient-we ended paying up the street.

Fantastic food but slow service. Don't be in a hurry if you want to eat here. You need to have a laid back, go with the flow attitude.

Good food, live music in evenings, rustic Western vibe. Well stocked bar and nice service staff. We go about once a week.

I ordered number 2 to pair with my (incredible) FRENCH ONION SOUP If you have that on your menu I have to try it but this was truly exceptional ! Following that I had the New York Strip. Medium rare. GREAT but I did ask for a side of Green Chile. And Garlic Aioli for the potatoes Nicely cooked but I added some salt and chile to make it pop my taste buds. YES. I would order it again the same way The Pork Chop looked great as well Desert was also very good. Truffles and Port wine ...I love Port wine (Spicy chocolate truffles with lovely RED CHILE in them) I think I'd give these guys 6 stars of if I could because Armando was so cool toward me !

A nice atmosphere and an enjoyable enough evening, but overall the food and wine felt more average than memorable.

Despite its cuteness however, it doesn't look like it's been visited by many based on the number of photos uploaded as of April 18, 2026. It might be its location as it's tucked in a quieter area from the center of Taos (it's still very much walkable from it though.) Well, I shall (thus) contribute to it. Great selection of whites and reds. Unfortunately however, none of the reds I got to sample didn't strikingly impress me and yet the Rioja was the best one out of the 7 displayed upfront. I hence went with a glass of it. Despite the beautiful weather on a Saturday at around 5:25pm, nobody was there. The live band for the night had just gotten to it where they were doing a little rehearsal. There was a good hour to the start of the show. The food menu also had a good selection of small bites from charcuterie board to hummus plate to meatballs to dumplings to flatbread etc. And the prices of them were mostly $10 to $15 (except the boards.) I had stopped at a different wine bar earlier where I had gotten me a few food for me to eat at the hotel so I didn't get anything at this place. Maybe next time. It's a great place for girls' night out, a date night or a solo dining as well. As I have mentioned already, live music every night. You can sit close to the band or a bit away from it near the entrance. Wherever you sit you'll be surrounded by the great ambiance. I enjoyed it tremendously.

We were told by the bar staff to give them a moment to seat us, so we waited outside on the front porch. This liminal space of time provided us the opportunity to observe the evening hour turn to dusk, and notice light changing into shadow across the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Eventually, we were told a table by the window opened up -- which was most serendipitous for us. Despite what seemed to be a staffing issue, the bartender graciously saved the day with his genuine hospitality/attention, and even brought our drinks to the table. Our food appeared remarkably fast, and disappeared from our plates just as quickly. I highly recommend the butternut squash soup and pistachio gelato (so delicious). The only true down-point for me was the lighting inside, as it was far too bright for my liking (ambiance goes a long way). With regard to collective experience and 100% worthy of mentioning, Elevated Pour ended our evening in Angel Fire on a most memorable note -- the night sky became lit up with stars visible to the naked eye... pure magic.

Whereas the other place was generous enough to let me taste more than a handful of their reds this place only gave me one of them (which I didn't care for.) I didn't want to be an entitled customer so I (out of politeness) refrained from asking me for a few more samples. I hence opted out on ordering a full glass for something I might not enjoy as all I could get were the descriptions of several other reds he said. I sure was hungry though so I ordered the mixed green salad and the rotating dessert (some sponge spice cake with date in it.)
