Whenever my partner and I first get to Santa Fe (driving from Denver), we love to stay a night at The Sage (look for my review) and have a drink, dine at, or both at the Social Kitchen & Bar restaurant (part of the Sage). Social Kitchen has a great staff, and they were running their Monday Special: $5 margaritas! Thank you, Amos, for letting us know. We also enjoyed the chicken tacos--great flavor. The food was good, the margaritas for only $5 were good, and the service/staff was excellent: Katrina--she has been at Social Kitchen for at least 5/6 years--she has excellent all-around customer service. James is a friendly bartender. Amos at the front desk was also friendly and helpful. Stopped in for a drink and dessert... The place was jammed packed - hard to find an empty table. The bartender was the only one waiting on tables and the patrons at the bar. It was a very busy bar - a few seats at the bar itself and a few tables... Multiple TVs showing the NBA playoff game of the night. Overall nice vibe to the establishment. Someone dropped us off menus, but it was the bartender that actually took our order - two house margaritas on the rocks, which was the special of the day. He was very apologetic for the wait, as it took him a while to take our order and deliver our drinks. We were disappointed that they were out of ice cream, so two of the three dessert options, really were not available. What a shame. The margaritas themselves were a disappointment, but what do you expect for a five dollar special Overly syrupy, not too much alcohol and super tart. A group of 4 came to participate in the Thursday night trivia game. The host from Geeks Who Drink was friendly and entertaining. Beer/drink selection was typical and the vibe was as expected for a casual hotel bar. Service was initially okay, but as the event carried on and the place filled up, it tanked. The two servers (a male and female) seemed to be at odds with each other and working against one another instead of together. At one point the male became obviously annoyed and slammed a door to the patio open and stormed out, leaving the female server to close several tabs and with a line at the bar. When he returned he again seemed to do more harm than good because he couldn't keep tabs or tickets straight. This place has a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Different events each night too. Food and drink (they have a full bar) are great! I came here for trivia night and was very disappointed. First we called weeks in advanced to ask if they could accommodate a party of 20 for trivia night. The good news, they could. The night of trivia they only has one bartender who was also waitressing. No one else. People from the kitchen was bring out the food. This meant long waits for service and drinks. Going up to the bar to get refills. I ordered the hatch eggs and there was absolutely no chilie in the eggs. If you are going to host a trivia night to bring more people in for business, you might want to staff that night accordingly so people will want to come back. read more

Social Kitchen is a very nice place unless you want to sit on the patio. It is located a few feet from Cerrillos and boy is the traffic noisy. Not good and quite a disappointment. My friend and I stayed at the hotel, and since they gave us complimentary drink tickets, we decided to try the food out. Disappointingly, the food was very dry and you could tell it was just toasted in the oven. We tried to get the attention to our server to get some salsa but by the time we got it, we were already halfway done with our food. The amount of salsa she gave us was very small as well, and was more like a taste. After almost finishing the entire plate, there was hair in my food. I knew it wasn't my own or my friends because it was shorter and really mixed in the plate. After letting our server know, she went ahead and took the food off the bill. However, she charged us for the salsa when she never even mentioned there was an extra cost to that small amount they gave us. Not only that, but it's not on their menu either. It's as if because they accidentally had hair in our food, they still wanted to make some type of money. If you come here, I do not recommend ordering any food, and just stick to drinks. read more

The food and drinks were fine, it was the service that was sub par. When we got there, it was 1/2 full of customers already served. We sat down, and it took several minutes for a server to come by to check on us. Not a huge deal, but the bartender and the server were just talking with people at the bar, and saw us walk in. When we ordered, the server brought our drinks, and then our food, when we ordered one more drink. She didn't check back until we waved her down for the check, and by then, we were the only table with customers besides the bar. I counted 5 tables that needed to be bused, and they didn't care, only about talking with people at the bar. Music and staff are always so great although when you don't have enough staff to accommodate the guests it becomes hard to sit a enjoy.
