I went for the Sunday open mic and realized, pretty quickly, that this is a different version of the city entirely. The room is full of people who have been here a long time. Not passing through, not collecting an experience--living here. You can feel it. Cowboys, Native and Hispanic locals, older regulars who don't so much "come in" as continue to just being there, younger musicians trying things out without much concern for polish. Some people look comfortable, others look like they're working it out day by day. It's not tidy, but it's very real. There's a man who's been dancing since before I got there. Big guy. Not performing, not drunk, just... moving. Same small circle, same step, for what feels like hours. People join him, leave him. He doesn't change what he's doing. Santa Fe often gets flattened into a kind of aesthetic, around the plaza, galleries on Canyon Road, all of it carefully maintained and easy to read. Tiny's sits somewhere else entirely - in a David Lynch part of SaF. It's a place where the people who make up the actual fabric of the SaF are still visible, even if they're increasingly pushed to the edges outside of Tiny's. There's a slight offbeat quality to the place. The lighting runs warm, conversations overlap, the music drifts between rough and surprisingly good. It never quite settles into performance. It just unfolds. The open mic follows that same rhythm. People get up, play what they've got, and sit back down. No big reveal, no polish. Just presence. I the food is like Tomistas or La Choza (but open Sunday/Monday), the drinks are cheap, and the bar staff keeps things moving without fuss. Tiny's won't be everyone's version of Santa Fe. But if you're interested in the people who actually live here--the ones who've stayed, worked, have aged in this place--it's one of the few places where you can still see them gathered together. And that worth noticing.

Great, small, lively blues band playing, no wait to sit, and a very local, friendly vibe. Our party of five ordered a range of meals, rellenos, enchiladas, combinations, posole, tacos, and a few beers. Food was very reasonable in price, made to order, and rivaled just about anything at the trendier, upscale joints near the Plaza or elsewhere. Not a fancy joint, trying to one-up every New Mexico decorative cliche, so don't go for your Insta-life setting. When The Shed, The Pantry, La Choza, or others bust your chops, try Tiny's, and its long history in Santa Fe over the last 60 years. Or go to Tiny's to start.

The food was delicious, but I decided on Coyote Cafe because of the dessert menu, and the burnt honey cake absolutely lived up to and surpassed my expectations! You can really taste banana leaf, the shaved halva adds a lovely sweetness, and it just melted in my mouth. The service was impeccable. They called me by name the entire time and even though I look quite young for my age, they treated me with respect. Their timing throughout the meal was perfect too, very attentive, but not stiflingly so. I exceedingly enjoyed my meal here, and I'll definitely be back to enjoy all the other dishes I want to try here.

The vibe was eclectic, the view was nothing special, but we were definitely in a happening spot. We did not sample any food during our visit, but we did sample a margarita and a cold beer. Service was poor. It took a long time to place our drink order and an even longer time to get the Alice margarita and a bottled beer do not know what the hangup was but 10 to 15 minutes to get those drinks seems a little bit excessive. The margarita was nothing special, although you don't expect anything special from a house margarita, most of the time... They had a margarita filled with special and unique margaritas that looked interesting to say the least - overall it's on the list of places you must see... But I don't know why it has made the list. I was just disappointed.
