One of the locals recommended this place to us for drinks, and we enjoyed it so much! The décor was so cute, and it was so cozy inside. They have three different fireplaces and a lot of areas to hang out. There didn't seem to be any table service when we were there on a Saturday night. My boyfriend went up to the bar to get us drinks, and he mentioned the bartender didn't seem to be that experienced, having to check the book frequently to know what went in each drink. She just poured all the ice from the shaker into the glass for my margarita mocktail, for example. They have a very fun drink list, and I enjoyed the mocktails, but they didn't blow me away. We would definitely come back for the vibes and we'd love to stay at the hotel next time. They also have a lot of cute and fun items in their little gift shop that's next to the front desk. La Reina is the epitome of coziness, especially when stopping by on a cold winter night. Multiple fireplaces (one by the bar and others in the main room/seating area) add the perfect touch. It is a very nice hotel and I would have given 5 stars but for the fact that employees are parking in the spots in front of the units for which guests are paying and the guests are forced to look for parking far away from where they are staying. Major inconvenience and totally unpleasant. That is why the low score. read more

Heather and Anya are both amazing bartenders. The ambiance can't be beat. Open later than almost anywhere else in Santa Fe. Santa Fe has a distinct night life & there is no lack of events and dance parties. Mostly this place has packed in the weekend. Bar tenders are friendly. Well drink is $ 15 that reasonable compare to Brklyn or LA. Even this is the American South, they won't easily you to welcome in. Hey you know what, you show your swaggering, everyone gonna down to have fun. I have stayed at El Rey Court for a couple days and found out this gem. Strangely enough, a lot of bars/ lives music and events are in the hotels. Don't be shy to go in. A little lack of diversity. I was brought up by the white culture that I would like to see more spice thing up. Date night would be great. Casual atmosphere and convenient location for guests of El Rey hotel. I tried one of their mocktails and quite enjoyed the flavor and presentation. Kudos for having a selection of interesting non-alcoholic beverages to begin with. They also offer a few bar snacks on the menu. read more

I had read about this bar (and accompanying renovated hotel) a lot before our trip to NM, and so it was a pleasant surprise to learn that it was located just 8 minutes down the road from our Airbnb! As others have noted, the interior is GORGEOUS, sophisticated and inspired by the legendary designer and architect Alexander Girard (who lived and worked in Santa Fe for a large part of his career). The bar area itself is relatively small and a bit cramped with people either sitting at the bar or waiting to order. We lined up behind the couple in front of us and perused the menu. We were excited to see that some cocktails included French aperitifs that are hard to find at most bars, such as Salers and Bonal. We ended up each getting the Bonal and Bourbon cocktail, which was unique and nuanced. It should be noted that the majority of the drinks on the menu include mezcal, which we don't particularly like. But for mezcal lovers out there, you'll be delighted! The lighting and music were both romantic and complementary to the overall aesthetic of the place. *This all happened pre-COVID...* Super stylish bar in a super stylish hotel. Decor is on point. This is where you go to Instagram and sip, all at the same time. But it's also a hotel bar, so you can sit and chat with the bartender and get the lowdown on all things Santa Fe/NM. Unfortunately, the bar area was full (that's the best seat in any bar, IMO, so no shocker there) so we stood near the bar area for a bit before the bartender noticed us, took our order, and made us the drinks fairly quickly (house margarita for the wife, topo chico topped with tequila + lime for me...can't remember the name of it). We grabbed a small table and enjoyed what was a nightcap after another great day in Santa Fe. Drinks were both solid. I think we probably would've stayed for another round if a spot at the bar opened up, but instead we headed back to our room to catch some zzz's before the next day's adventure. read more

We were referred here when I told someone I liked Mezcal. We went into the hotel bar and found couch seating since the bar was full. We did order at the bar and bartender was really friendly. We had 2 of their specialty cocktails, one Bourbon and one Mezcal. We talked Mezcal and she told me to come back and she would set up a small tasting. We waited until we could get a seat at the bar and then ordered our second round with the Mezcal tasting. So much fun! It is well worth the trip to visit it! Not a welcoming place to all. Non-Inclusive, pretentious, moneyed, hipster, granola stereotypes abound. Ultra-hip to a fault...in case that's exactly what you are looking for. And by the way bartenders, you are very slow for being so proud of yourselves. The mixed drinks look, and are no doubt awesome, but get better at multitasking; sling the beers on one hand to persons who want to get back to their friends...and continue crafting the mixed drinks on the other hand for the persons who are ok with the wait. It's really not that hard, I promise. Could be a really great place, but the ultra cool ambiance is just off putting to persons outside the hipster bubble. Of course, I suppose that's exactly what you want...a place for "your" type of people to be able to social media post with other people exactly like them in background. Nice hotel bar - seating, decor, etc. Nice bar tender. Drinks? -blah. We were in town for a couple of days and I researched the Santa Fe Margarita Trail and this place popped up and happened to be open on a Monday. Most places are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays in this state. The Margarita was weak. The La Reina was pure alcohol. Go check it out for yourself. I wouldn't go again if back in town visiting. read more

Friday night done right. Walking by the El Rey, I would not expect it to have a bar such vibrant and diverse with options. Just a 5 minute walk from my hotel (The King's Court Inn) I stopped in for a drink, hoping to find some good conversation. As I entered I was immediately taken back by the cleanliness of the lobby/bar area, as well as the beauty of the patrons. Seemingly, there had been an art sale going on and as it dispersed, they all filed into the bar for some drinks. I sat at the little bar (it only seats a few, but they have a lounge area as well as 2 patios) and orderd the Batan Bourbon. The bartender explained, "It's an effective marriage between an old fashioned and a manhattan." YES! It was great, and well worth the $12 pricetag. I was also taken aback by the kindness of the patrons. Each one that passed addressed me, and their vibrant conversations were so thought provoking and lively. Additionally, the bartenders interjected often too, creating a really great familiar feeling among everyone. I had been speaking to a woman at the bar about my work, and one of the bartenders stated that she was an LMSW as well. The gentleman bartender asked about my work quite a lot, as he made my second drink. I ran into another guy named Cassidy from Dallas (only once ever has this happened) and I cannot say enough for the wonderful vibe of this place. The bartender ended up buying my second drink, and for that kindness, I am so thankful. He said, "We need more people doing the good work, like you." I rarely hear that, and in that particular moment, it meant the whole world. The staff here were genuinely kind people, quite unaffected by the weight of life, and really cared for people, it seems. Overall, this created an experience I will never forget, and even managed to give me a bit more hope, as we stumble through the pitfalls of living in this iteration of American life. read more

Another reviewer writes that the bartender "greeted everyone she knew with joy and excitement, but when it was our turn to order, she was downright rude. She asked those she knew for their drink orders, even though we had waited in line." Well said, true. She takes the cool kids' orders first and is super-rude to the rest. I realize it is a hip, new movement right now -- but don't denigrate the movement by selling wines you claim are "natural wines," but are, indeed, not.
