Probably the best matcha in vicinity to Berkeley campus. Sakura is great, hojicha is great, orange blossom is great, the classic matcha latte is great. You can't go wrong! They also serve up a few pastries but I've never seen the display case fully stocked when I've been. It always seems like they're running low. The interior is minimalist and modern, with lots of floor seating. Draws a ton of students. Plus the space is incredibly narrow, so expect to shimmy past people on the way to getting your drink. But I've always had really pleasant experiences with the folks behind the bar, they're all very kind and prompt and seem like they genuinely enjoy working at Mind and with one another. read more

The workers were super nice and kept offering help to order with them instead of the kiosk even though they were still busy which I feel like a lot of places don't do anymore. It is very narrow and a bit stuffy but there were still many people in there studying. The drink I ordered, hojicha latte was very good. I loved the drink honestly. My friend said her coffee wasn't very good, but to each their own. I still would come back for the hojicha because I am not a coffee drinker myself. Such a wonderful coffee shop focusing on a mission to rewrite mental health narrative. Just hearing about their mission + all the IG posting hyping their shop, I decided to visit on a Saturday afternoon. When you first walk in, the space is long with cute layouts of cushions for patrons to sit down and enjoy their drinks. Towards the back, there are two kiosks you can place your order for minimal contact and then an option to choose either credit card or cash payment with further instructions. Of course you can still ask the workers there who would be more than happy to help. Menu selection was extensive and I got quite overwhelmed due to decision paralysis until I came across "Let Your Barista Choose" choice. Aside from answering a few questions to be sure you don't end up with ingredients you can't consume (e.g. milk), it was going to be a surprise. Basing on my answers, the barista whipped up an iced soy dirty matcha cappuccino! You can definitely tell quality ingredients were used along with the barista's consideration to make this drink for me to say wow. And since I haven't really had a great mental health month, this experience brought me some happy tears, and to know this could be a safe place to calm the brain and enjoy great coffee. The interior is well-decorated with a bunch of cute seating options including little stone/pebble-shaped cushions and low tables so you can sit closer to the floor. I love the way it's decorated as well, with an impressive paper lighting fixture spanning the entire ceiling and several plants to complement the neutral colors of the interior. I was telling the owner how hard it was to find good cream top in the east bay, but was pleasantly surprised that the consistency + taste of it was spot on. Not too sweet either. As for the cold brew itself, I liked how it tasted but will agree with the other reviewers and say that it was kind of 'light'. Could be worth steeping it for a little bit longer and using more beans for that more acidic taste that cold brews are known for. Super chill new coffee spot in Berkeley! The ambiance is very minimalistic calm- great if you need somewhere to study or work for a bit. There is a standing table, some cushioned floor seats, and a few regular seated areas so keep that in mind if you have a preference. There are 2 kiosks you can order from and then they will call out your name. The drinks here are not very sweet so just know that you will probably need adjustment if you like sugar. I ordered the Tiramisu crema with cold brew and it didn't really taste much like tiramisu. Otherwise, the coffee itself was pretty smooth. Friendly service. They have an emphasis on mental health and offer things like signs to welcome people to your table, or cards you can buy that have encouraging messages. Nice little stop if you're in the area. The cafe is very small, and it seems to trap a lot of smell and heat. When I walked in all I could smell was horrible BO, so much so that I couldn't stay inside to drink my matcha but rather had to sit outside. The Matcha Coffee here is one of the Best I ever had in the bay area. The owner used genuine high grade Matcha that is way better than the cheap generic stuff I see in other cafe. I had a two layers Matcha Coffee. The Matcha layer is not sweet, while the bottom layer is sweeten milk. With a straw, you can drink between the two layer for the perfect sweetness that you like. The cafe was designed by a professional interior designer and architect, and it's inspiration is palpable. You feel like you're studying in a mini art museum, and you just feel so welcomed whenever you enter, by both the staff and the environment. The drinks themselves are hand made to order and fairly priced, and the staff always checks up on you to see if the order is to your exact liking. While normally I prefer cafes that are "removed" and offer little interaction after ordering, Mind is a refreshing reversal of my preferences. The only thing is that the place is quite small, so do be mindful if you're coming with a group of more than two, as seating may be hard to find during peak hours. Out of all the cafes that I have tried in Berkeley, this is- without contest- my favorite. read more

In the years that my partner and I have visited Berkeley coffee shops, we've been fortunate enough to see the variety that represents the Berkeley coffee scene. Today, I can wholeheartedly say that we've found our favorite spot. TLDR: Sweet drink lovers and traditional coffee drinkers- GET. HERE. ASAP. Upon entering, you're greeted with a very lax, yet inviting environment. The vibe is laid back, with a long hallway that guides you to the heart of the cafe, the baristas counter. Along your walk to the center of the cafe, you are greeted along the right-side wall with art from a variety of artists depicting different cultural backgrounds. As you make it to the barista counter, you're acknowledged by the friendly staff who immediately welcome you into their space. This invitation reaffirms you that this space is now yours as well. Moving to the right, there is an order screen with the menu and pictures of items displayed on the touch screen. The staff make themselves available to everyone if they have any questions or inquiries. Once you order your drinks, a short wait follows where you're able to absorb more details scattered throughout the shop. Whether the shelf across the left side of the bar that houses their teas for sale, to the beautiful light design on the ceiling and on the right side wall facing the front entrance, each detail has been carefully considered. After that short wait, your drink order is called out and the moment you've been waiting for has arrived: DRINK TIME! We ordered the cortado(me) and the iced mocha with cold foam(my partner). The espresso was a beautifully pulled Ethiopia Guji that was lightly roasted, with excellent fruit notes and nicely textured milk to make a creamy cortado. The mocha was velvety chocolate, with the perfect level of sweetness and a cold foam on top that was no less than perfection. It was the equivalent of drinking a perfectly crafted chocolate mousse, with the right amount of sweetness. Overall: this place is a 10/10 with a staff that focuses on making sure every detail of your experience is the absolute best it can be. The drink quality is unlike anything we've ever had in Berkeley and highly recommend this place to not only try, but to get to know the staff! We will DEFINITELY be returning! read more

Themed cafes are always a hit, and I really appreciate that this place focuses on mental health--something super important to have right next to a university campus!
