I discovered Mina's's tailor studio because my husband's office is next-door. She is reasonably priced, does a great job, and very straight forward about what she can, and cannot do. Over the last 13 years, I have taken many pieces of clothing to be tailored. Of course a lot just needed hemming and/or taken in, but also more sophisticated jobs like darts, moved sleeves, (taken up at the shoulder) and revamping the style. Mina's Tailor Studio is the best alteration place to go in the whole Bay Area! They do both guy and girl's clothing: girls- they do jeans, short dress, long dress, fabric accessories, bolero etc. For guys - they do suits and pants. My husband did his wedding pants there. Originally it was loose and too long, Mina's Tailor Studio made is perfectly fit to his hip and to his legs. The best part I love Mina's Tailor Studio is they are detail and they do excellent job on sewing. Their skills are actually way better than many places I went that charges me triple prices on the same item I needed to fix! The first time I went was for my engagement tulle skirts - they've got my skirt done in short among of time (3 days), with the exact length I wanted. The worker was so nice and she even taught me how to use to extra tulles they took off from my skirt to create a flower to attach on the skirt. The second time I went was for my wedding Bolero - they did an excellent job again by detaching the silk band and replaced with the laces I purchase from fabric store. After the alteration, the bolero fits like a nice glove on my waist and it looks very natural. The third time I went and the job they did for me was just made me so happy that I decided to write them an awesome review! A place who did my wedding dress and my veil did a horrible job and tried charging me hundreds of dollars even they did a poor job of it! I brought the broken looking veil (originally was brand new and the Milpitas wedding tailoring place made the tulles tear apart with poor alteration attaching the tulles on the metal wire comb. I was super worried a week before my wedding! Also because they did a horrible job, the metal wire comb looked like a long peach of white block when it attaching on to my hair. Mina's Tailor Studio fixed it for me and it looks absolutely new and lovely! It was just so good to have a place you can trust when you're bringing in your lovely items and looking for a good repair. P.S. This place accepts CASH only. It's the only down side but with the affordable money they charge and the skills they have -- it's great and I am definitely going back. I am a Asian, the same ethnicity as Mina. Each time I have gone for a hemming service, I've only ever gotten snide remarks about how "my dress is too much" or "this is too short." Yet, she is always bending over backwards for her White clientele. Besides her unsolicited remarks, she overcharges for basic thing. She basically doubled her price for hemming my dresses and skirts after COVID-19. Anyway, I highly prefer Mei Fei. read more

I needed to get my wedding dress hemmed a week before my wedding. The nice people at J.Crew gave me a list of five tailors they work with in SF. I called the first two places on their list- one didn't pick up the phone, and the other said they couldn't do it in time. At that point I was starting to feel a little bit panicked. Then I called Mina's. She was a little bit hesitant at first to do it, but I think she took pity on me, and agreed to have it ready by the following Thursday if I brought it in that morning. I rushed over to Union St. with my dress. There is a small sign for Mina's by the front door to the building, so go slow or you'll miss it, and place is up a series of stairs and at the very back. Mina marked the outline of where the hem needed to be shortened, and noted that the hem of the dress was a little over a half inch longer in the back than in the front (apparently typical of J.Crew dresses to have uneven hems). She said she would be ably to correct it no problem. The dress was ready first thing Thursday morning. The hem length was perfect. I checked the work just out of curiosity, and it looked professionally done. I'm so happy to have found a good tailor. I can't wait to start taking other clothing there. read more

The work: on point... my suit fits me better according to plan and pins, and the quality is professional. Customer service (maybe this applies to the younger lady who assists there): 1. i was running late to pick up my suit coming from San Rafael after work. they said they'd wait the 1/2 hour after closing time for me. then, when i got there i didnt realize they only take cash (maybe the only negative side but whatever) so i had to run to the bank. i told her earlier that my car was parked in a no parking zone so im limited on time... fast forward to me going to the ATM... as i was running back to their shop, the lady was standing outside next to my car to make sure my car wouldnt get ticketed or towed. high five to you for going the extra distance to accommodate me! read more

Mina has expertly altered many items: bridesmaid dresses, jeans, coats, pants. You can quickly change into the item, she'll stick a bunch of pins on it, and you can see exactly how it will look. I usually bundle a few items and I'm not in a rush to get them back. She's kept track of everything and charges a very fair price. Be sure to tip her! In the event of an "emergency", she's done same-day alterations for an extra charge: she altered a dress in a couple of hours, so it could be worn that night. If you can't find a metered spot, there's a (somewhat tight!) parking lot near Osha that's very convenient. read more

I just got back three pairs of corduroys that I took to Mina's. All three pairs were too long so I needed to have them altered at the bottom. The ladies in the shop did a perfect job! The hems at the bottom looks like the originals - you know how sometimes when you take them to a sloppy shop, they do a sloppy hem that is in a completely different color thread from the pants and looks extremely bootleg? Not at all the case at this shop! My pants were done in exactly a week, and the price was very reasonable for three pairs of pants. I definitely recommend this shop for basic work and plan to go back again and again! read more

I have gone to 4 other tailor places in the city, and I think I am finally done searching for one. I was looking for professional tailored work that is also reasonably priced. I've gone to a couple others in the Marina area that are extremely over-priced and not worth it because it was poorly done. I've had jeans, skirts, (Sky) blouses, and coats altered here and I am very satisfied. They have good prices for hemming pants/jeans, and do a good job with that, and other simple tasks. However, she did a really bad job on a designer top that needed a more complex alteration. Great for simple alterations, not good for expensive or complex alterations. I still come here to get all my jeans hemmed. Merry is really sweet and nice, but she also has a skinnier, younger assistant, who can be quite abrasive. While I was there, another customer came in, and the assistant completely ignored her. When the customer tried to get her attention, the assistant said that she didn't speak English! (she was speaking English with me). read more

Gotta love Merry. Heard about this little gem from my sister and thought I would give it a try. Merry is soooo sweet and helpful. She takes her time to make sure she gets the perfect measurement and she definitely charges a fair price. I was wearing an outer wear jacket that I will need hemmed in the future, and Merry was kind enough to put clothes pins in it so that I can wear it until I can send it in to her. I found Mina's on yelp and had high hopes. WHile she is a very nice lady and did a good job on my jeans, she completely ruined a brand new $500 dress. Yes, I got it half off and all, but it's now ruined. I had it altered, came back twice to make corrections and have finally given up completely. I even paid $38 dollars to have her ruin the dress for me. I am very dissapointed. After all was done, she finally said the fabric was very difficult to work with. Thanks! read more

Excellent service. Highly skilled. I live in the Eastbay and driving all the way to the city is worth it! Not too expensive and if you need a garment rushed, she will be more than happy to accomodate you. There is a parking lot right next door. Merry (owner) is very friendly but will not hesitate to tell you if the truth about how something looks. I went to Merry for multiple pair of jeans and dress pants. She also took in many of my jackets. I recently lost weight, therefore all my jackets looked like oversized raincoats. Merry fixed it all! Not very impressed. Really poor experience. Took a bridesmaid dress and needed it hemmed and a strap adjusted. It took them three tries to work on the hem and even after the third time it wasn't right but I just took it because I was running out of time. And on top of that it cost $80. Go somewhere else! read more
