Mediocre tailoring unfortunately. So many seams have come undone overtime. When they messed up the hemming of my pants they blamed it on me and seemed disgruntled with fixing it, which I didn't appreciate. Pricing isn't even that competitive to warrant that kind of work or behavior. read more

I have had two unfortunate experiences with Reid's Tailoring. First, they charged me to hem two pairs of pants but only completed one pair, even though I paid for both. They denied the mistake when I brought the pants back to show them their oversight. I decided to give them a second chance, but this time they were extremely rude and seemed unsure about how to keep the original hem on a pair of jeans. They spoke in Chinese so I couldn't understand them, and I only learned what they were discussing through a translation app which was derogatory and not something I can even repeat in this space. read more

I usually come here for all my alterations but let down by their reliability. Took 30 minutes out of my work day and they were closed at 5:30pm despite their hours saying they close at 6pm. Their phone line was disconnected when I tried to contact them. read more

Did not feel welcome here. Brought in two dresses and asked for both to be taken in - one was a fairly simple task but I knew the other dress would be a lot of work. The entire fitting of the difficult dress took a while, so I sympathize with that. The uncomfortable and unwelcoming part was that the older lady kept expressing her distaste of the task ahead of her. Then when charging me she corrected the younger lady to add on more to what was already written on the invoice. I would've rather been asked to go somewhere else than experience the discomfort. They didn't even call to say that my dresses were ready. read more

I was invited to a "back tie optional" wedding and found the perfect gown. The challenge: not only was the dress was too long, but it was also asymmetrical with a high slit and a wide ruffle. The wonderful ladies at Reid carefully measured everything and did a FANTASTIC job! It was the perfect length and I got tons of compliments at the wedding. Very skilled with flawless craftsmanship and friendly/helpful customer service. I took in a very delicate sequined dress to be hemmed and brought in and they did an impeccable job and turned it around in a week. I also took in a really nice velvet blazer to have the sleeves hemmed and they turned that around in two days, even during the holidays! I can't believe I'm writing this review - I used to take a lot of clothes here and have told people to go here. However, I've never received worse altered clothing OR service/professionalism. I took a dress by for a wedding to get the shoulders taken in. When I picked it up, the straps were better, but there was a brand new problem - the interior lining was showing around the neckline. After putting her hand awkwardly very far up my dress to try to pull down the lining to show me that was the problem, I took the dress off and hung it up. That's when I noticed you could VISIBLY see there was an issue with the lining. She proceeded to explain to me that they didn't do it. How is that possible? It was not an issue when I dropped it off (or I would have had her fix it then). She kindly offered to fix it...........and charge me for it!!! It only got worse from there with the service. It ended with her and the older woman YELLING at me. I wanted my money back because of the service and the poor quality. They said no, that they had already done the work (and in the meantime, created another issue). Finally, the older woman stood up yelling and threw the money at me. It was epic: I repeatedly asked her to stop raising her voice at me, the younger woman had to put her arm up to block the older woman from coming toward me, etc etc. I was shocked. I left the money and hope they feel guilty for taking the $60. I now have to find another tailor in the destination I'm going to for the wedding to fix it and then pay more. Reid's Tailoring SAVED my wedding day! An alternative seamstress in the marina didn't do my wedding dress alternations well at all, it was way too tight causing the dress to squeeze 'back fat' and 'armpit fat' in very unflattering ways. I tried to work with the seamstress through several appointments to fix it, but she always insisted that it was the dress and not capable of fixing. REID TAILORING to the rescue! 3 days prior to the wedding I finally brought the dresses to them, and they instantly saw the problem and how to fix it. They were super nice and understanding, and was able to do the alternation for pick up next day! I tried it on the next day, and it was perfect - fixed all the problems. I wish I brought the dress to them in the first place. I recently found out they changed owners and the new ladies have a lot of experience for wedding dresses. And it was like 1/4th the price of what the other seamstress was charging! Reid's Tailoring was honestly a God sent angel on my wedding week. They are such a pleasure and willing to help! This place is a mixed bag, but it is one of the few places where I can park and get errands done, and I have not necessarily found a better alternative. The people here do quality work, but they can have a seriously negative attitude about what you're asking them to do even if it is a typical tailoring task! I get the sense they do not enjoy being tailors, but they will begrudgingly go along with it if you pressure them to do so. Very weird. I miss Ed (who used to run the place years ago). He at least was friendly and seemed to really be interested in the art of tailoring. I don't need "service with a smile" and I recognize that their work is challenging, but these women seem joyless and they make me feel bad to be asking them the "favor" of tailoring my clothes in exchange for a lot of money. That said, I have had a heck of a time finding someone who has a convenient location and tailoring skills, so I will keep going here unless some of you yelpers can recommend a better place. read more

I paid close to $100 to get a dress tailored there, only to discover they never shortened it (figured that out when I was tripping over it during the event). I won't be going back here. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this tailor with so many other good ones in the area. I just had a suit top tailored and somehow the shoulders turned out all bunched up. The sleeves were shortened properly but who can't do that? It also cost me $120 to tailor a single suit jacket. Absolute rip-off. They get 2 stars because the service was relatively attentive and they 'finished' the job quickly but my suit jacket is ruined and can hopefully be fixed elsewhere. read more

Things to be aware of when you go to Reid's: 1. Edward has more work than he can handle. He'll do his best to accommodate you, but it's not always possible. If that's the case, don't be one of those a-holes who threaten him with bad Yelp reviews because you can't get same-day service. Yes, this has happened to him. 2. Edward is not a bargain Chinatown tailor. He's the kind of guy you can trust with your most priceless, cherished clothing items. When you see the quality of his work, you'll see it was worth every penny. 3. Edward goes on vacation for about a month once a year, generally in the fall. In the past it's been in October. I was feeling creative so I purchased a camouflage army jacket from a thrift store to sew patches, studs and spikes on. The first time I took some jeans in to Reid's, the proprietor explained to me that most people need their right pant leg hemmed to a different length than their left. If you hem both pant legs to the same length, when you put them on, one leg will hang longer than the other. He further pointed to the pants I was wearing, which I had hemmed myself, and lo and behold one leg was a good half inch longer than the other. Needless to say, I was aghast. He went on to explain that this was likely because my right ass cheek was larger than my left. I had to agree that yes, this was probably the case. Since this little lightbulb moment I have dutifully brought all my pants in to Reid's to be hemmed to the most exact specifications. I've never brought in anything more complicated, but who knew you could hem pants with such professionalism and attention to detail? I recently moved across the city and am finding it hard to justify the trip over to the Marina when there is a pretty good tailor two blocks away. However, the new tailor only pins up one leg to measure, and I don't have the heart to tell him about my ass cheek situation. read more

Reid totally tailored my pants for my wedding suit. The result was a perfect fit. It took a while to get it done, but that's because he's in high demand and does it all himself (it appears). He's super nice and very helpful and listens to your requests. I'd say his prices are a tiny bit high but overall you get what you pay for. Reid's Tailoring is great! Took two suits in there, was immediately helped. Edward knows his stuff, and was really helpful with tips and input. Plus they definitely understand modern tailoring. I was able to get a GQ style look without going over the top (82% GQ). And on top of that, they were able to push one of the suits through early so I could be ready for an interview! I had two jackets completely altered, taken in on at the waist, sleeves altered to show 1/2" of sleeve. And they were able to give my pants a slimmer appearance at the calf and shoe. Reid's Tailoring is amazing!! YaLi did two alterations for me: a skirt that was a tricky material (the North Face jacket type of material) that was way too big in the waist and and a trench coat that was 2 sizes too big. The skirt fit perfectly and lost none of its shape in the process. For the coat, YaLi opened the arm holes of the coat, shortened the back, took in the waist and made it look like nothing was altered. She even shortened the inner lining to match - honestly I couldn't see any difference before and after except that the coat fit me like a glove!! Upon trying on my very slim-fitting pants which left little to the imagination, I assumed it would take a magician to fix the problem with such short notice. Not only did Reid's deliver on their promise to finish all orders with enough time to make any final adjustments before the wedding day, but they also did an incredible job. I have had several pairs of jeans altered here- the waist is ALWAYS too huge on me if I can find jeans that flatter my leg/booty area...so Mr. Reid-man...whatever his name is...he takes a lot of pride in his work. Not only will he be able to match ANY trendy designer's thread (yes, he even re-stitched my True Religion's with 2 colors of thread!), he will have to try them on before you pay to make sure they're right-- and if they're not- he goes back in to fix 'em again. I have a special place in my heart for Edward. He's one of those people who perform quality work time and time again, and charge fairly for it. I've been going here for years now with everything from clothing alterations to drapery adjustments. Every time, even when I stump Edward with something a little obscure, he rises to the occasion. Sometimes I'll buy something that may need a few tweaks and take it to him to see if he can adjust it to me. He's always honest about whether it's worth it to alter or just return. I have a lot of respect for business owners who are more quality-minded than profit- minded. Edward is like that. One note: He sometimes takes a little longer than you'd like, but it's worth being patient. It's because he's so good that he stays busy and takes his time to do quality work. read more

Reid's are absolutely awesome. Ed(?) took my Diesel jeans to be adjusted at the waist and was concerned that the thread in that area was multicolored (ok, they are nice jeans, which was why I was here in the first place). He made no promises. He actually unpicked that thread, and re-used it when he put the waist back together again. I've never heard of such care to detail before in a modest adjustment like this. When I picked up the item he was marveling at how he had never seen such a silk thread before, and then there were some stories about China thrown in too. A very nice chap, and superlative work. I have to be honest I don't use tailors a lot, but I think Reid's is in the top 0.1%. Some of the reviews have mentioned him being expensive, but I don't actually agree. The jean adjustment cost me $30, on a $200 pair of trousers; better to fix, than to try and sell. read more
