Honestly, this place is good for when you have a spontaneous appetite and not a planned one. That is, the food is good when you randomly crave for Asian food and not "oh, Asian food sounds good." In actuality, the food didn't taste bad at all. But not enough for me to eat here every weekend. I came here on a Saturday night around 7 PM and I could count all the cars in the lot. As a vegan and a foodie And someone who has traveled in Southeast Asian experienced real Thai food in Vietnamese food this is a horrendous imitation. The service was spectacularly bad, we ordered Edemame to start which came out 45 minutes later. How long does it take for you to steam soy beans? Then I told the waiter I'm a vegan and I asked him about the smoothie and I asked him to bring me it to me with less sugar and he ended up bringing me a mango smoothie with whipped cream on top. I'm a vegan I don't do dairy really doesn't that comprehend? Then I asked about the vegetable tempura and he told me that the tempura had egg. Traditionally tempura does not have egg. We waited 45 minutes for for the food to come and it was cold and my friend ordered kimchi rice which was dry rice with an overcooked egg and no apparent taste of kimchi whatsoever. Then on top of that they brought my food first and then 10 minutes later they brought her food and so we were just waiting and then after we had returned our starter saying was cold they bring the starter after bringing the mains in random order. I ordered the Chao chae noodles and it was basically fried.noodles with hoisin sauce. This place is bad. Then during our meal the guy brought buckets out and cleaning products and started busting the tables at 7:30 in the evening on a Saturday. What on Earth? They didn't even cancel the starter because they messed it up. This is a pretty epic failure of a restaurant and I feel like people are okay with mediocrity over here. I hadn't visited this place in 2 years because of a previously bad experience and honestly this is a sham of a thai Japanese restaurant. There's nothing authentic or really true. The environment is its only saving grace having a semi decent dining area but besides that avoid at all costs unless you just want to grab a smoothie and talk in a nice atmosphere otherwise if you want service and good food run away. read more

Stopped for lunch yesterday and ordered General Tsao's Chicken, what I consider a baseline test, and it was fantastic. The meal came with soup, rice and an egg roll with dipping sauce. I didn't need to add any Soy sauce. Not many people were there at the time so service was fast and the server was friendly and helpful. read more

Mimosa is one of those rare gems of an Asian eatery. In Springfield, you have your choices, but I will admit, I'd never considered Mimosa as an option when going out to get my sushi fix on. Tonight, after striking out twice, a friend suggested Mimosa, because he knew one of the Bartenders. First, the atmosphere is gorgeous, the bar area is divine, and the bartender, Kurt, was top notch. The selection, next, was refined and to the point. To drink, my guest and I had a Singapore Sling and a Classic Mimosa. Both were excellent and expertly done. To eat, he had the tuna tempura and I the Three Musketeers Roll, featuring avocado, yellow tail, sake tuna, and asparagus, with a mild spicy mayo sauce. Delicious! Decently priced all around and a Kurt was an expert on sake presentation... cherry Sake in an vial style pouring glass on ice. I will be coming back to Mimosa, and if you're like me and never considered it, hitting stumbling blocks with Osaka and Kiku, you should too.. P.S. Kurt, Ben says you're his dog! read more

We've eaten at Mimosa once and did carryout a few times, because it's close to our house. Tonight I tried the teriyaki chicken for the first time. The menu reads, "Grilled with home made teriyaki sauce and vegetables". What I got as "vegetables" was a few onions and two pieces of asparagus. I thought something must be wrong, so I called the restaurant to check. Sure enough, that's all you get as vegetables with the teriyaki. I'll probably be back just because it's close, convenient and fairly inexpensive. No more teriyaki, though! read more

Today I ordered the spider man sushi roll and the launch portion red curry... The curry was delicious. The sushi roll looked awesome but I did not read the description thoroughly enough. It had an ingredient that I am allergic to. The server was very kind and 2 others came by to clarify the issue. They brought out a new plate with California rolls that were safe for me. Mimosa is usually our family's go to place for dining out. The last few times we have noticed that the servers (while very freindly and attentive) haven't had much knowledge about but he menu. Our most recent visit my husband and daughter were sent the wrong food. when the correct item did come my husband's had a large hair in it. That was sent back and another was brought out after that was finished eating. when the manager delivered the bill he charged us for what we ordered and the items that we didn't order (or eat). when we explained it to him he came back with the full bill, no discount for the hair and wrong food and not apology or any measure of service recovery. For that reason we choose not to return. So while the food is good, customer beware that if you do encounter a problem chances are there will not be any service recovery measures taken. read more

Horrible management - when my wife takes a bite & says something's wrong & I take a bite and say something wrong & I bring it to your attention don't take the dish to the kitchen, come back 5 min later & tell me "everyone in the kitchen says it's fine". Always good. Most recent visit I had Lo Mein and rice for a quick lunch. So tasty. The sushi is great too and you can't beat the weekday sushi lunch special (3 rolls for $10-11). Highly recommend the BSC roll, OMG roll, 911 Roll, and also the simple rolls like the Philly and spicy tuna. read more

Food was good.....service was horrendous. Up charge for brown rice and received white. Not a big deal until the owner argued with me about the charge and would not refund the money. This is my second time dining at mimosa and I decided to give it another shot after a not so good first one. The management was extremely unprofessional when I told them that I didn't like what I ordered. I ordered the California tempura and Vivi told me that she would have to check with the manager which I understood since I'm a server myself. She came and told me that since I tasted it and it was my decision I still needed to pay for it. I asked for the manager and he said that the chef said that since I ate ONE I had to have the rest which I didn't know when decisions came from the chef and not the manager. Like other reviewers, I'm glad to report the food was good. Service was a disaster. We went on a Sunday afternoon. We were never given a sushi menu, and I assumed perhaps their sushi chef was not there. A friend in the restaurant at the same time got a sushi menu and ordered sushi, however. Maybe we didn't look like sushi eaters? We ordered with no problem; our server was friendly. 15 minutes later, we heard him say to the table a few rows down, "are you guys okay for a minute? I'm going to go catch a smoke." Huh. Things seemed to go downhill rapidly. My daughter's mango salad, advertised on the menu as mango, avocado and tomatoes, did not arrive. When it did, 20 minutes after the rest of our food, it was a plate of greens (quite fresh) with about ten tiny cubes of mango on top -- no tomatoes, no avocado. This was too bad because it was meant to be her entree. I got the wrong entree but did not complain because a) it was good, and b) I dreaded the wait involved in fixing it. By this time, I could see the waiter was in deep doo-doo. Manager was now stepping in to refill drinks. Table that had been told waiter needed a quick smoke was unhappy that one of their entrees had not arrived. Waiter eventually appeared to tell them that kitchen was refusing to make the entree without ingredients that diner had said she could not have. Very unhappy people. Manager's attempt to mollify failed. Waiter re-appeared at their table and I heard him explaining that the kitchen was really screwing up today. By now, our waiter had become grim and uncommunicative. Drinks were refilled and returned to table grudgingly -- a "thank you" inspired a brief and almost inaudible "yep." He looked like he couldn't wait for the shift to be over. Having said all this, the food, however different from the menu or what we ordered, was pretty good. We wanted to try the new Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese Asian Fusion restaurant, Mimosa, since it was featured in our local magazine, "SO - Springfield's Own." I ordered the Shrimp Tempura bento box and was sorely disappointed. The salad had a bland mayo dressing and not the usual ginger dressing found in restaurants that served Japanese cuisine. Now for the Shrimp Tempura, there were exactly two pieces on a bed of battered onions, broccoli and sweet potato. Remember, I ordered Shrimp Tempura and NOT Mixed Tempura? The sauce served with it was Sweet Chili Sauce. I asked for tempura sauce but I was told by our server that was their sauce for the Tempura. The four pieces of California Rolls were acceptable and so was the Miso soup. If there will be a next time, I will opt for the Thai or Vietnamese food. Maybe I will luck out! read more

Great sushi! A little pricey and you don't get as many pieces in a roll as other sushi locations in Springfield, but it's good. I've had the orange chicken and general tso, and it was good as we'll. if you are looking for something a little different, give mimosa a try. read more

I gave 4/5 coz there is nothing in Springfield that would even get a 3/5 but since the place had the least ammount of flies and rice was not undercooked I gave it 4 stars. Service was ok. Price and quality of food 3/5. Presentation and ambience 4/5. Id say its a clean looking place... Miso soup was too salty and cold (our meal included miso and salad - waiter totally forgot to bring soup and a salad). Everything else just didnt have that asian/thai/vietnamese/japanese touch to it. Its trully an American restaurant with asian dishes. I dont think the waiter had the skills nor knowledge serving sushi or any asian food, but he was very very polite. We ordered for delivery and 2 out of our 4 items were wrong. We ordered the vegetable goyzas and got pork. We have not eaten meat for over 5 years, so it was hugely upsetting to take a bite of one of them and get meat. We also order the General Tso's dish with tofu and it came with chicken. I ordered edamame, like I always do when I eat sushi, and it had so much salt on it I couldn't eat them. The waitress had the manager come to table. I told him the problem and instead of giving me more edamame he offered to wash them off under the sink with water. Considering how inexpensive edamame is I was blown away by this. I told him I did not want the edamame and it was not a big deal but he insisted upon washing them. He brought them back to table and I had to tell him 3 more times to take them away. He just smiled at me like he didn't understand what I was saying. After I finally got upset he offered to take off of my bill. I will say that the waitress was really sweet and the food is okay. However, the management is terrible and can't speak English so if you eat here I hope you don't need a manager for anything. read more

This is a family run joint serving a multitude of Asian fusion food. Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese I wouldn't say it's authentic but it's better then fast food. They also have a food and proud bar right in the middle of the restaurant. The food isn't necessary outstanding but it's passable. read more

I really like the papaya salad - it was different than some I have had with the addition of basil - makes a world of difference! The ambiance is fine and the service is typically pretty good. I ordered a couple sushi rolls to split with some clients - all of which tasted good but were drowning in sauce....the pineapple dish with beef was great and my client enjoyed the pad se eu that she ordered. Came here since Happy Sushi has been closed with no sign of reopening and I was craving some sushi that wasn't from the grocery store. Good stuff! Between a friend and I we had two philly rolls, the crazy roll, and the three musketeers roll. Our favorite was definitely the three musketeers roll -- delicious fish, great texture contrast, and creamy avocado wrapped around the roll. The philly rolls were also fantastic. I had a couple pieces of yellowtail nigiri which were very pleasantly briny. Service was startlingly fast -- we were in and out in less than an hour! This might be because it was off-hours, but there were still a decent number of people in the restaurant. Our server was nice and accomodating -- and quick to bring the checks, too. I'm going to have to thank my boss for recommending it -- based on the name I never would have thought they served sushi. read more

Overall i was not that impressed. We had a wonderful waiter, but thats about all that was great. I love Asian food, but there was very little flavor, and where there was flavor it wasnt quite right. I tried my brother in laws dish and all either of us tasted was ketchup. Will probably not be going back. read more

Came here on Sunday May 20th for lunch. Food was disgusting. Ordered Drunken noodles, it was very salty and the meat and veggies tasted stale and old. My aunt ordered Bun thit nuong (grilled pork noodle). The pork was not grilled and has a stink odor to it. It must be that the pork has been some days old. They just sautéed it with onions. Oh to top that, my aunt had a bad stomach ache and had the runs. The rest of the day she was feeling sick. So this mimosa place is the worst place ever! So watch out people! They're Not even REAL Vietnamese food. The way this place cooks is for the whites.. Bc they don't know what REAL Vietnamese food taste like. This place is crap! read more

Update - After making my post, Mimosa contacted us to rectify the dual charges - very nice! We enjoy the food and eat here about once a month; however, the speed and quality of service staff require some work. My wife and two small children enjoyed a late night dinner that ended up costing us twice the bill. No, this is not a joke or misprint. Ten minutes after handing the server a $50 gift certificate (an Anniversary gift), I went to the register to locate my change. The staff of three informed me that they were unable to find the gift certificate in their computer and it would be a few minutes. Five to ten minutes later, I returned to the register and learned that the 27-day old gift certificate had a zero balance according to their computer. Mind you, the server never returned to the table throughout this ordeal. I informed the manager that we would not return to Mimosa and paid with cash. My family can assure you this was our first and last visit to Mimosa. read more
