Really impressive overall. An intimate space that feels romantic yet comfortable. My partner and I couldn't spend our anniversary night out so we randomly chose tonight after a long work day and decided on Mimi's table finally! In the future I would get a reservation but we lucked out and only had to wait a bit at the bar even though I think it upset the wait staff... so again, might want to have a reservation... the food WAS DELICIOUS! We had the Crispy Artichokes and the Infused Olive oil with Rosemary focaccia for starters, plenty of wine and beer (great selections), the salmon dish with added scallops and the braised short ribs, and ended with espressos and tiramisu. I think the staff warmed up to us without a reservation and the service and food was great. Not a daily occurrence for us but definitely recommend for a great dinner experience. read more

I've previously reviewed Mimi's table and it's a solid 5-star dining experience. This update is for their monthly wine dinners. Each month Mimi's offers wine dinners. These take place on Monday nights as the restaurant is normally closed on Mondays. They start at 6:00pm, are 4 course dinners complete with wine pairings and cost $80 per person (as of 3/9/2020). And they are fantastic and worth the price. We have been to 3 of them, and this review is for the "Tuscany and Northern Italian" dinner on March 9, 2020. It would take too long to post the menu, so please see the photo of the menu that accompanies this review. The first course might seem like a simple charcuterie plate, but the focaccia and the tomato jam put it over the top. The second course was tasty, except I thought the shrimp were a bit over poached. The third course, however, was a hinge run. It was a veal meatloaf, served sliced. It was amazing, as was the creamed spinach on the side. The point cake was also tasty, especially as it was baked in muffin tins so everyone got the crispier edges. Each course was accompanied by wine, and we loved two of them and the other two were just ok. Normally, the wines have all been amazing, but people like different things. If you do like a wine, you can order bottles at the dinner (at a great price) and pick them up on the up omg Friday. And note: the wine pours are quite generous, sometimes with a top off or two, so I'd strongly suggest using Uber or Lyft (like we do). The menu is usually so good and the dinners so much fun, with both the chef and wine distributor explaining everything and then circulating around the room, that we always book a reservation for the next dinner before we leave. read more

Based on all of the positive reviews, I was excited to try this place out. Unfortunately, either all of the positive reviews on here are fake or diners in Tallahassee have no idea what good food tastes like! Or what fine dining is all about. Presentation was good for the most part, but taste and quality was substandard and the level of customer service one would expect for the amount being charged per plate is non-existent. I have better service from national chains at a quarter of the price. Staff was welcoming and the interior is nice, but the food is just meh and you get the feeling that management just doesn't care if you enjoy your meal or not. We ordered the bread and fritto misto appetizers. The bread was good, the fritto misto tasted old and overcooked. Like it had been refried or something. Tiny pieces of calamari, some tough and chewy and others that were dry and rock hard. artichoke hearts were obviously canned and sauce was NOT spicy at all. I had the pork chop, which "looked" awesome. Sides were good, mashed potatoes and green beans. BBQ sauce was on point, and first bite tasted great, but it was stone cold. Server took it back to toss it back on the grill, but left the sides and just took the pork chop. 10 mins later, after I was done with sides, pork chop came back and was the temp it should have been, meaning nice and warm! Unfortunately I only had a couple of good bites as the rest of the chop was all fat! I kid you not, you can actually see that the middle of the chop is just fat! Chef conveniently cover the fat with the sauce so it wouldn't be obvious at first glance. Well server came to clear table and noticing most of the chop in pieces in my plate, apologized for this, but that was it. No supervisor ever came over to check in, no offer to fire up a new chop or comp anything or even "here's a dessert on the house" for the fact that you ate alone and are leaving hungry. This place is Smoke and Mirrors! A mediocre restaurant that wants you to believe it's a highly rated fine dining one so it can overcharge for it's food. Will definitely not be returning and do not recommend anyone waste their time or money here. There are much better places out there, hell Carrabba's is 1/3 the price and much better quality and service if something goes wrong! No, seriously...it really is! read more

Started the meal with a bottle of wine and the olive oil and calamari entree. For the meal my husband ordered the meat lasagna and I had the short ribs. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. The service was great and everything was clean and served hot. Where it fell a bit short for me was it being boxed to go. When we got home the short ribs were not boxed with the sauce that was served with it and the foccacia was not accompanied by the olive oil dipping sauce we had not finished. I am not sure why, when boxed to go, they did not have their accompanied slides but that was disappointing. read more

Exquisite restaurant! The food is outstanding. I had the pork chop. It was smoked perfectly. High quality meat that melted in my mouth. The sauce (dare I call it gravy?) was super tasty. The greens and mashed potatoes were as good as my granny served - and that is the highest compliment that I can give. Casual atmosphere, but definitely upscale with linen tablecloths and napkins etc. Cozy room with a small bar. It was too hot to sit outside but they have a nice area that reminds me of those cafes on Rue Cler in Paris. The manager and server were friendly. Excellent experience. What a lovely meal experience from start to finish! We started with a nice amuse bouche with cantaloupe and cucumber. My date ordered the cheese board but asked for pork to be on it as well. We were told it was the one year anniversary of this restaurant so we were both served complimentary prosecco. The watermelon gazpacho was mildly flavorful with hints of basil and balsamic along with the watermelon. My portobello caprese on a bed of mascarpone polenta and his spinach lasagna were out of this world. We decided against dessert since we were full. We came in on a Thursday evening around 6 and were seated without a reservation. However, we would have waited if we had arrived at 7 or later, as it filled up quickly. Very nice ambiance, what you would expect for an updatable restaurant. Linen table cloths, low lighting, elegant yet simple decor. Our service was great, and so was the food. We had the shrimp risotto which was good but nothing to call home about. We also had the smoked quail. This was a show stopper. A complex and complementary combo of flavors. I really do not like writing negative reviews but this was not a pleasant experience. We visited on a Saturday evening on our way home from traveling and didn't know what to expect, but the reviews sounded promising. When we arrived we felt a little under dressed but not terribly. The hostess told us the only table available was outside so we said that would be okay, however she didn't give us an option to wait. When we walked out we saw a small table available, and throughout the night we noticed several empty tables inside. We had our 5 year old so thought maybe they just didn't want to put us in a small table, or maybe this restaurant doesn't welcome children. (No child menu) The longer we sat the more uncomfortable we felt. No one else was seated outside on the small patio during the whole evening and many tables came and went inside. It was 95 degrees out and we were very hot and were initially served warm water. We did not receive our food for over an hour. We ended up staying two hours (which is not a problem to wait for good quality food) but other patrons that arrived after us were being served before us. We ordered the special gazpacho, a Caesar salad, focaccia bread(we had to ask for this twice,) filet mignon and the braised short rib. The food was okay, the gazpacho had a great flavor but the filet mignon wasn't as tender as I'd expect. The braised short rib was a little dry in places but did have good flavor. Overall, I'm disappointed to say our experience will not allow us to return or recommend this place to anyone. I'm not sure if we were brushed off because of our attire or because we had a child but we've had much better quality meals and finer dining in less pretentious settings. read more

My husband and I love Mimis, and right now (covid-19) we have a real soft spot for local businesses. We went on a fancy date night to Mimis about a week ago and were thoroughly impressed. At this time, I'm pretty sure they are doing dine in by appointment only. (Please hold your judgement btw, we made this decision legally and safely) There were a few other couples at the restaurant, but they were spaced out extremely well, with some sitting outside. We were the only patrons inside the restaurant! The servers were kind and personable despite the masks they wore. Everything was clean, with fresh table cloths being supplied per patron. The food was absolutely incredible as usual, my husband had the short ribs and I had the fillet mignon, and we shared a bottle of rose and a cheese plate appetizer. For dessert we tried an apple tart and creme brulee, both equally delicious! Overall, I was really impressed by the cleanliness and safety of this restaurant. I was happy to support a local business, I care about the livelihood of wage workers like waiters etc, and we had a great time out of the house while maintaining safety precautions. Wow this place was lovely . The service was beyond spectacular. Me and a close friend of mines came here while we were visiting Tallahassee. We decided to stop here because she had a taste for lamb chops and I had a taste for steak ,But the steak for me was a bit chewy that's why I didn't give this place 5 stars . But other than that. The chef was amazing he came out and poured us a glass of wine on the house which was really nice. And the complimentary Salad was also delicious. Backtrack...We came here when they first opened, and was so disappointed that we haven't been back since. However, I decided to give it another try after reading some of the more recent Yelp reviews. So, I took my husband here tonight for his birthday dinner... I like the new reno, the lighting, the white tablecloths and the casual yet chic ambiance. The service was very good, and everything we had was superb. We had the Cheese Board, Potato Soup, Arugula/Spinach Salad, Crab Cakes, Scallops and Apple Tart. All very good. My husband, who always brags about my Crab Cakes, and usually never orders them in restaurants, sheepishly declared how good theirs were! Yes, they were very good (but mine is better...!). The Scallops though, were exquisite. They were tasty, with melt in your mouth goodness. Served on Cauliflower purée, I could have had another order or two of those. Even the salad was good, and salad is something I prefer making myself. The Apple Tart was excellent. Very French, very light and paired with Cinnamon Ice Cream for a Southern flavor. To be fair, we are vegetarians so I can't speak to the quality of the meat dishes, but the food we ordered was cafeteria quality. We started off with a $14 "cheeseboard" that came on a plate. There was very little attention paid to plating: maybe 1.5 oz of cheese served on a purple cabbage leaf, store bought jam, store bought lavash crackers, and candied walnuts. I had assumed the jam would have been a freshly made compote given the location and time of year, I certainly expected a little more cheese, and this hardly resembled other cheese boards I've been served in other restaurants. We also ordered the fried artichoke. This tasted as if the artichoke were frozen, rather than fresh. And they also tasted a bit fishy, which is perhaps due to them being fried in the same oil as seafood. Lastly, we had two salads. The salads were clearly bagged lettuce with, what tasted like, stale, low-quality croutons. Again, given the restaurants website and overall vibe, I would have expected fresh ingredients. We originally intended to order dessert, but decided against it based on the low-quality of the food. In addition to the lackluster food, the plates were chipped and our glasses were dirty. Three bright spots: 1. The amuse bouche of watermelon, strawberry, red onion, feta, and basil was delicious 2. The wine selection is quite nice. 3. Our server was perfect. She didn't hover and let us have some time between our dishes. Overall, if you are looking for a truly upscale dining experience (and it might be fair to assume you'd have one based on the menu prices and description of the chef), this may not meet your expectations. And, it will likely feel overpriced based on quality. read more
