We've been going to Mimi's in Downey for years but lately the service has been getting worse .You can wait to be seated for a long time and no hostess comes out unless you start looking for whoever can take your name and wait again and nobody checks the list .The waitresses are always new and inexperienced and the food quality is going down. Two stars because normally I enjoy this place a lot but not today. Today I waited three hours in line for Thanksgiving 'Side Feast' that I had pre ordered to make this years Thanksgiving more 'convenient'. If I had known this terrible wait was what I really ordered, I would have just cooked everything myself. I noticed that another reviewer has posted a similar review for today and I bet we were there simultaneously as that line moved at a snails pace. I just have to wonder why they even ask you to select a time window for pick up if you are going to wait three hours for your food anyway. I was scheduled to pick up between 10:45-11:00 am arrived on time, and I didn't get the food until past 2:00!! On top of that, when I got home I had no salad and no stuffing which was part of my family's order but I did have two trays of green beans oh and some balsamic vinegar to use on our nonexistent salad. So I arrive three hours late to our family gathering with food that we still had to heat up before we could even eat it, and we didn't even get everything we ordered, but they still managed to charge me the full price for sure. Management was in complete disarray. I understand some of it was not his fault but the handling of the customers could have been much better nevertheless. One young woman waited three hours for her order and she only ordered two sides! Completely ridiculous!! read more

I attended a two day training near this Mimi's & decided to give it a shot. The first day I only went for a muffin; the host/greeter (unbeknownst to me), was actually the manager, Rocky, he was extremely courteous. The blueberry muffin was SO delicious and large in size that I decided to try a full breakfast the next day that came with a muffin (flavor of your choice). The day I dined in for breakfast, my server was Leticia. She said her favorite item was the Santa Fe omelette. Ironically, that's what I came in for. The omelette with the homemade guacamole was the best omelette I'd ever had considering I'm not a fan of eggs. The muffin, like yesterday, was warm and delectable. If ever you're in Downey, I recommend trying this cafe. The service is fast, prices are reasonable and the staff is nice. 5 stars for Mimi's! read more

I absolutely was disappointed in the service here. I got there about 8am or just before with my dad. Barely anyone there. They said sit wherever. I ordered pancakes well done, eggs, bacon and potatoes. Took forever. People who came 10 minutes after us got their food. One had a fancy eggs Benedict. My server nowhere to be found. One server who brought her customers food was hustling. I asked her for my server. Then suddenly she appears outta nowhere with our food. I immediately touch it and ITS NOT HOT. Not even the potatoes. Now I'm not happy. I ask her why this took forever and other people who came after me got theirs. She proceeds to say "oh it's cuz you wanted well done pancakes". I'm like WHAT? "Please do not insult my intelligence and try to blame me. I am no idiot. I'm done. I don't want anything " she insists she get a manager which I didnt want one. I wanna leave. So I reluctantly accept. Now the manager takes forever. I told my dad let's go. I offered to pay for our coffee she said don't have to. I said "I already had to wait forever for food and now I have to wait on your manager?" One thing I hate is bad service. Even worse being blamed for it. read more

Today I decided to give Mimi's Cafe a try, since I've never been before and I'm glad I did. I walked in around 12 and was seated quickly and my friendly server Eva attended to me right away, which was great since I was short on time. Came for breakfast everything was good except some of my french toast slices were under cooked n some slices cooked perfect. Also the scrambled eggs were bland n over cooked. Mimosas were amazing. Came to Mimi's for breakfast on Sunday morning. I haven't been here in a while so I was surprised when there was no wait time. Everything started out fine until the waiter came to our table. He took our order and then disappeared. We had to flag down another waiter to get a refill on our drinks. The waiter then brought our food and disappeared again. Again we had to flag down another waiter to get a set of utensils and condiments. I asked for sourdough toast and they brought me what tasted like regular white bread. I told the waiter and instead of offering to replace it, he told me that it's sourdough and that sourdough tastes just like white bread. He was clearly irritated with me. He then disappeared again and I had to ask another waiter for our check. That's when I realized why the wait wasn't so long. I used to love breakfast at Mimi's, but now I'd rather go to McDonalds. read more

I stopped by Mimi's yesterday evening, a Wednesday, to pick up a dinner "to go" to share with my husband, as we had a Zoom meeting to attend soon, had only a short time to eat, and wouldn't have time to eat an entire meal. In fact, I was afraid that I'd be late in getting home. It was about 5:40 pm. I had ordered the rib eye steak dinner, medium rare, with potatoes au gratin and garlic spinach. As I pulled in, I noticed that mine was the only car in their lot. I then wondered if this Mimi's was closed and that perhaps I'd inadvertently called a different Mimi's. When I walked in, the restaurant was empty but obviously open. I waited a minute. When no one arrived, I decided to leave. However, a young man with an apron came up to me from the hall area and asked if he could help me. I told him why I was there. He returned a minute later with a see-thru bag containing my order. I gave him my credit card and asked him where the bread was. He said, "What bread? I'm new here." I told him that the meals always come with an assorted bread tray. He looked at me dumbfounded. I then told him, "Never mind," as the clock was ticking and I needed to leave. Once home, my husband and I both found the meat to be tough and chewy. The flavor, though, was excellent; however, that did not make up for the fact that the rib eye steak was not up to standards. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I surmise that the reason that I was the only customer is because others have encountered the same types of issues. I'll close by saying that I had driven by the restaurant the prior weekend, and it was quite busy. So perhaps the "B" team works weekdays and the "A" team on the weekend. This is the fifth year we have had Mimi's for Thanksgiving, but the first at the Downey location. We experienced the Thousand Oaks Mimi's three times (one takeout Thanksgiving meal and twice to eat in on the holiday) and once in Whittier for the same event. They were great and I recommended them to everyone. However the Downey store was horrible. If we ever experience something this bad again, I would rather SKIP Thanksgiving! From the rude host who was not polite when I called and made the reservation to the service and lack of providing the correct menu, it was the worst! 1. Host was rude and when I asked for a late afternoon time, he responded with be more specific. When I said 3pm, he said there were none. I offered three more times to no avail. When I finally said "WHAT IS OPEN?" he replied, 4:45pm. He said," You are the last at that time!" Why did he have to say that? I took it. I called back to be sure he wrote it down, because I didn't trust him. 2. Once seated (only a party of 4) we ordered 3 soft drinks, a mimosa, and two waters. We received the drinks after ASKING for them with the first course. 3. Ordered 3 house salads, and one soup. She did not ask about dressing on them. We presumed it was going to be in an assortment offered. She brought them with vinagrette which was not what they wanted. We asked the neighboring waiter for our drinks and salads with ranch. 4. No bread (as listed on the menu)was brought with the salads or soups. 5. Meal was served. We asked for an extra plate to put the sides that people did not want so share with others. Plate was asked for twice, NEVER brought. 6. Cranberry sauce not provided. 7. Meals were very short on gravy. We asked for more and only received TWO very small containers of it with TWO, not four, containers of cranberry. 8. Asked for our bread. Were told they ran out and it was in the oven. We eventually (end of meal) were given 3 bread sticks not the bread offered on the menu. 9. Asked for 3 of the 4 pumpkin pies to be packed up after hearing the waitress tell someone that they had to go but more. I was positive it was not the same quality of Mimi's desserts and I was right. The pumpkin pie was horrible. It was bland and the crust was dry. 10. The one slice was served with no whip cream. When asked, the server said, they were out. She managed to come back with a can of ready whip from the grocery store and put some on the pie. 11. I had ordered one additional dinner for take out (leftovers) and it came with no bread or cranberries. 12. One of the soft drinks was not refilled. 13. The server did not charge for the three soft drinks because of how late they were served. This was the worst holiday meal I have ever had. I can NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Something is wrong with this once busy, friendly, restaurant. The entire large side was closed...only a few diners in the place, all in the small section of booths. We requested a booth, and there were tons available....the girl had to ask the Mgr...after a long wait she said NO...you will have to either take a table over there or wait for a booth. There were no servers for the big side...although that side is even closer to the kitchen, no big deal to go there. I asked to speak to the Mgr...was told he was upstairs, and I could wait if I wanted to....he wasn't answering the phone now.....THIS IS WHY IT IS SO EMPTY AT 6;45 PM!!! They really do not want the business in this community....they can send all the free buy one deals they want, I'll never go back there, it is insulting to have maybe 10 customers in the place and not try to accommodate the 11...HaHa what a joke they are. Went for breakfast this past weekend. Even though it was crowded there was room at the bar so we sat there and we waited on by Paula. Everything was great! It was our first time here and she suggested the pancakes.... they were so delicious! My husband had the salmon eggs benedict and well I thought the hollandaise sauce was just ok. I've had better. We both ordered the orange juice and it was perfect. The service we got was great as well. Paula checked on us and she was good. Overall, we will definitely go back. The added bonus we had a coupon!!!!!! read more
