Stay at the hotel.. first thing the Grill is closed sundays even though it says it's open. It's just for drinks, which are trash. Area wasn't very clean and staff was clueless. Plan to go someplace else. read more

When you find your karaoke spot, nothing compares to it. Though I love pushing myself and going to other places to make myself uncomfortable. Yeah, it is a little weird. Karaoke is not for a professional singers. It's for people who have the balls to go up on stage In front of bunch of strangers and take their time to shine. Some of them Sing good. Some of them don't. I always respect any person that put them self out there like that. I appreciate guts ! We all have that song that's ready locked and loaded in the car . That's usually your song. Today at the Embassy suites in the Brickstones restaurant& bar We had an amazing time singing karaoke and eating flatbread. Margarita, pizza and mushrooms with goat cheese. Ok here is an update, my girl G-Train is no longer here because she has moved to Texas, but don't let that change your mind on stopping in because she has passed the assignment over to her KJ brother Bear Music and he is no joke. Music up to date honestly you don't need a kareoke book just tell him what you want to either sing or rap and he will find it for you. This is a safe laid back place to bring your friends and family. Come with an empty stomach because their new menu is fire. Tonight I ordered the ribs and jalapeño straberry Margarita. Alongside Buffalo wings for a friend. Everything was very good, the crowd was lit and chill at the same time. Prices for food range from 9bucks and up. Brib bites were 13dollars and I was full on the 3rd one. My review is based solely on the price and customer service 13.00 for 5 wings, which are no even big is outrageous in price. I'm from NY and we don't even pay prices close to this. I ordered m food and even before that I ad a check presented to me. I looked around and another male ordered and got his check a female ordered and no check right away. I went here one day after a staff meeting and it was right when they opened so there weren't many people inside. In general it is a nice space with lots of private areas to talk to whomever you are with as well as a tucked away bar area. Gorgeous and wooden. My complaint really, is that it took us a long time to get our food and the waitress wasn't the best about getting us refills on our drinks. I had the steak sandwich, which was pretty good, as well as the fries. Overall, it wasn't out of this world and the service really turned me off. I'd be willing to try it again to see if the service was any different. read more

I really enjoyed the place. The atmosphere in the Embassy Suites was better before being purchased by the Hilton group. The restaurant was better also. However, I was still pleased as when I made reservations, I told them it was a wedding anniversary and that we got engaged at the restaurant (another name). If you like frozen pizza and frozen burgers then you'll like this place(my kids ordered)I ordered the tri tip and chicken and it's was over cooked and dry..the dinner salad was the only thing that was respectable..it seems to be popular for the 530-730 freebies soda, veggies, chips, dip and cheese.. definitely want to utilize all the restaurants around this hotel that are close by and avoid a $90 bill that wasn't worth $20.. service was a lot of effort but inexperienced at a $250 a night hotel.."pay for what you get" is all I ask..is it to much now days?vs a profit?? The food here is mediocre at best, and strangely sweet, even the wings are sweet. Stay away from the bbq chicken pizza, it's gross. On the plus side they do televise the Dodger games. Drinks are good. read more

I was excited to come to this place as I live nearby and never really eat in Downey let me explain... I work (and play :) on the west side.. So when I wanted to get a cocktail and unwind at this cool spot I have not visited in two years I was ready. The renovation is gorgeous and the hotel's concierge services was mediocre at best. Not very welcoming, regardless, if I was not a guest there. Anyway, the first bartender was great and explained happy hour- his name was Danny, great attitude. The bartender who actually took my order, Brandon (also great attitude) did not know what a Negroni was exactly. I was shocked, as all bartenders should know this classic cocktail. I knew it was Gin, Sweet Vermouth and something else-I googled and found out it was Campari, 3 parts each. That was not the problem. I didn't mind helping with the recipe. The problem for me was that I get really excited to know what's on the menu for both food and drink.. I feel like people that frequent this establishment are limited to college-style cocktails like Midori Sours, AMFs etc and of course you have Old Fashions and Manhattans for the older folks etc.. I like options, but when I ask a bartender for a cocktail menu and he tells me they are "fruity" drinks; that is a real turn off to anyone. What a way to down sell your menu.. Where you should promote mixed cocktails. This place obviously isn't a posh Hollywood bar where you can order a #Mixology type of cocktail. But too bad the bartender didn't care to promote the mixed drinks, regardless if I am a man and think that drinks are too "fruity". I'm a beer and Whiskey Smash kinda guy, but I like all types of cocktails, except for Long Islands, Adios, and the hard blends.. The real upsetting part was when a pair of older ladies sat to my left.. I was hoping to talk to Brandon but these ladies overshadowed me. I get that he was excited to share his awesome Asian vacation experiences, that's cool. The problem was that it took away form the rest of his guests and the attention he gave to them (me). Plus, not to mention, the lady directly to my left was chatty and not the type of woman I'd talk to. Especially, after she bumped her stool with mine and did not say a word. I said excuse me in a nice tone. I really didn't like her, and to put up with her chat with Brandon really annoyed me. Maybe her word choice, idk?.. I was just upset that my water was not filled as fast as I finished it.. Don't get me wrong, the experience was adequate. But I expected more from a Hilton restaurant. For as great as the renovation made this place The Embassy Suites, the bar could have been better. I was hoping that the bar offered a liquor menu to see the selections, it did not. I did notice some great Vodkas but wanted to see about Scotch and Tequila... I think knowledge and confidence with any type of server goes a long way.. To promote more items is to provide choices to ALL patrons. As a foodie, and lover of spirits and wine, I can only expect so much from this demographic east of the 110 freeway. Downey is fun, gentrified and up-and-coming, Hollywood can get blasé after a while. So I expect great staff like Danny and Brandon to cater not only to people in the area but as if it were Los Angeles as a whole.. And pay attention to your clientele and not spend too much time talking about your honeymoon.. The Taco Tuesday special was savory and so were the chicken Empanadas.. So was my Negroni, it was perfect in fact. The matter here was that the bar fell a little short with knowledge and attention--that's all. Alas, there's a 1000 of other places to visit .
