Mimi 5 Bobee has improved a lot since my last review. They not have an online ordering system, which is nice because they'll text you when your order is ready for pick up. My office is 8 minutes away so it's convenient to pick up and avoid the lunchtime craziness. It can get pretty hectic here if you are walking in to order. There is usually always a line and wait can be a while. The food is always a hit, my go-to orders are either tomato beef (1/2 beef, 1/2 tendon) noodle soup or the Combo C with popcorn chicken. Combo C is nice because it comes with a free drink, either green tea or wintermelon tea. You can add the cold cut salad (+$1.50) to Combo C if you like and I do recommend! The cold cut salad is a kelp salad with marinated pig ears - sounds weird but trust me its so good! If you dine in, service is average and ambiance is loud, hectic. The space is small so you have wait staff running back and forth while you try to enjoy your meal. I prefer take-out so I can eat in peace. The parking lot here can get quite busy since it's shared with a pho restaurant and East West Bank. read more

Mimi serves great tomato beef noodle soup (best in the area in my opinion), and also has a wide array of creative drinks and appetizer dishes. I love the stinky tofu there as well. Their rice dishes are prepared authentically and are always savory and delicious. They also serve the Fu Chow fish balls which is a speciality food that not many people make. I saw recommendations about Mimi 5 Bobee from this Taiwanese Facebook group that talks about eating around in Southern CA and so my wife and I have this restaurant in mind for a while. Recently it just happened that we are making a trip from OC to Rowland Heights area so we decided to try this place even during Covid time so we had to eat in our car. We ordered the Lu Rou Fan and Porkchop over rice and they are awesome. The taste of the five spice is perfect in both dishes and it really reminds me of Taiwan. Located in Diamond Bar this small place is a local favorite with such a variety of menu items that you could probably eat here for lunch and dinner for a whole month to try each food item here! Lunch special 11:00-3:00 pm you can choose from different combos or you can just order from their regular menu. My favorite thing to get is pork chop rice. It's deep fried and my other favorite which is also deep fried is pop corn chicken. You can tell the lady if you would like it less spicy or add more spicy flavor to it. They have a daily drink special where you buy a large drink and get the same large drink for free. Just ordered a watermelon one which was for today's drink special and it taste so good! Has been customer for this place for many years. However, I encountered one of my worst customer service attitude from one of its employee this morning. I placed my walked in to-go order at 11:10am and waited for my order - two rice dishes and two noodle dishes. In a few mins I could see that another to-go order was ready and placed on the counter ready for pickup. And shortly afterwards the lady who ordered after me received her order and left. At 11:25am, I asked the male server requesting the status of my order...he told me that they were still cooking the beef for my noodle....at 11:32am, I asked another female server about my order and she simply brush me off by stating there are other order in front of me in a very rude manner. I did not appreciate this attitude and demand to cancel my noodle order. The boss came up to apologize but I insisted on canceling my order and asking for my refund. Totally disliked the garlic chicken. Nothing interesting to say about the sausage. I think the best part about the meal was the lightly sauteed cabbage served alongside the main meal...and catching up with my sisters probably made the experience better. The lunch combinations seem enticing at first glance, but they're actually a ripoff, which is surprising to say, considering most Chinese cafes are usually relatively inexpensive. We ordered the lunch combination "A," which only came with a few pieces of tofu, a green or black tea, and a small bowl of dry noodles with vinegar and nothing else! We also tried the lunch combination "C," which was basically just a small side of pork chops, plus a bowl of noodles in soup with a few bean sprouts. It also came with a green or black tea, as well as a side salad that was basically just a few pieces of dry shredded cabbage. Overall, the food is really disappointing here and the prices are unreasonable, considering how small the portion sizes are and how bland the food tastes. I would much rather drive a few extra miles to eat at any other Chinese cafe in Rowland Heights because I'm confident the food would be much more affordable, authentic, and probably taste a lot better than the food here. read more
