What a lovely gem discovered! Had a great dinner last week when I brought an out-of-town friend here. She was visiting from LA & we decided to stay local in Westchester instead of heading down to the city. I have had this place on my list to-try for a while, and a friend at work has been here twice & had good things to say about it. We grabbed a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. The bar tender was very sweet & made some recommendations. Decent wine selection & reasonably priced. Shortly after, we were seated at our table & after hearing the specials decided to start with the Grilled flat bread-apricot jam, speck, goat cheese (we got ours without the speck). Delicious! My friend got the Roasted organic chicken and while I usually never order chicken dishes while eating out, I tried a bit of hers and it was cooked to perfection & very flavorful. The skin was crisp and the chicken was moist, very well seasoned with herbs, absolutely yummy. I went for the Night's special pasta with tomatoes, mushrooms, pesto....also really yummy. We finished off our meal with some coffee & the Ricotta Cheesecake-fresh strawberries, raspberry sauce & whipped cream....mmm mmmmm good! The service was efficient & friendly. Had a birthday party there in their back room. The service was impeccable! The restaurant is very attractive with a sultry vibe decorated with old wine bottles, dark wood and amber lighting. Food is made in house, fresh. Drinks were very nice. My husband loved his steak. They were very accommodating throughout my meal as I am vegan, I believe it was the manager.. he brought out desert (3 different sorbet flavors) for me as my friends had cake and I couldn't eat it. I was very impressed from the beginning! Restaurant Parking wasn't too hard , I found a spot right in front. My boyfriend and I came here on vacation and wanted a cute little date spot and this was just perfect! We were greeted immediately and brought to our table and this is where it all begins !! We were seated next to the air conditioning which was fine I'm not much of a complainer but the man at the bar noticed right away that I was cold so he shut it. He also dimmed the lights for my boyfriend and I to make a super nice dim lit romantic dinner. Just as much as they pay attention to detail so did I and I was moved by that ! Our waiter (I forgot his name) was very friendly and very attentive and his customer service was way more than just five stars ! You can tell this is a top notch quality establishment. We started with our drinks which were made to perfection with such detail. I've been here a bunch of times. The food is consistently good. Service is fine. Good red wine list (they need more whites). All of that would be easily a 4 star review. What nails them is the portion size. It is consistently small, especially for the prices. Last night we ordered a ragu. The sauce was great, but there were so few noodles. I had even asked the waiter to tell the kitchen to add more pasta (to no avail). It was more like an appetizer portion than a main course. Pasta is cheap. They could have put in 50% more (without any more sauce even) and it would have been perfect. At $25 for a pasta dish, they could spare a few more noodles. I also ordered the black cod special. It's one of my favorite fishes and it was perfectly prepared. But it was tiny. For $34, I don't expect to go home hungry. read more

Came for a work lunch while doing Whole30. I was in luck because there was a salad on the menu I knew I had to get as soon as I saw it- shaved brussel sprouts and cauliflower! I had them hold the non-Whole30 compliant ingredients, added chicken, and got olive oil/vinegar on the side. I cleaned my plate, it was delicious. Great restaurant , we went there early on a Monday night so it wasn't so busy though towards the end it filled up . The service was good and the food came on time , towards the end the service slowed down and we had to wait a little for desert and bill but I guess it's ok . I had the creamy polenta and the skirt steak both really good , they also have half price house bottle wine only Monday's and we had the Sangiovese witch was really good as well . We love going to Mima for regular dinners or big group events. We go there a few times a every year. My friend threw a 40th birthday for his wife here and it was done well in the back room. The best dish is the orechetti and always try the wines they have featured. We have tried all the dishes multiple times and very consistent. In summary, Mima Vinoteca is a cozy space and the food is delicious but you'll pay for it. It was five adults and one child in our party on a Monday evening. Monday's, as a bonus, turned out to offer half price bottles of house wine. The first we got was not great, the second was really solid. Both bottles were $50 a piece so we paid $50 in total....not a bad deal. The cocktail my husband ordered was quite good. As for food.... Starters: Olives - good Marinated mushrooms - good Burrata - great Fried cauliflower - good Eggplant rollatini - great Entrees: Gnocchi with artichokes, mushrooms, and truffle oil - great, though very, very rich...probably the second best Rigatoni with a meat sauce - great Lasagna special (with veal) - great Ravioli with walnuts and cranberries - the best Dessert: Fried ricotta - good Cheesecake - meh Banana bread pudding - great The meal cost us $340 without tip. We had a lot of food, though no leftovers, and it was a really good meal. But that's pricey for what I'd consider basic Italian fare especially when we got $50 knocked off the bill because of the wine special. Would we go back? Yes. My wife and family, young adults 18 and 21, went for Valentine's dinner last night. We were aware that it was a prix fixe 3 course meal and we were also aware it was a bit pricey, but adding a 20% fixed tip was intolerable to me. The food was certainly good, not great. When we arrived i ordered a cocktail and so as not too drink on an empty stomach, i requested some bread from our server. She never brought it. When we asked the bus boy, the bread arrived in 20 seconds. Throughout the evening the service was pretty mediocre, certainly not worth a full 20% gratuity for amateurish service. The wine list was exorbitant with very few bottles under $50 and most $75 and above. It is not often i feel ripped off, but $420 for a meal in the suburbs is way over the top. We will go to X20 next time we want a great meal with professional servers. read more

There's no place like Mima's. It's the classy-but-laid-back neighborhood pasta joint I wish was in my neighborhood. Every pasta dish I've ever been served has been exceptional. Every single one. House-made pasta, cooked just past the edge of al dente to that perfect chewy-but-tender point. The entrees have been similarly perfect... but I tend to save room for the pasta as much as possible. Highlights: - Pappardelle with Wild Boar Ragu. Order it, trust me, don't look back. - Orecchiette with farm fresh egg, black pepper, onion, smoked bacon, parmigiano reggiano: I could eat many, many bowls of this rich, warm goodness. A fantastic flavor profile. - Bombolini: An irresistable dessert. Little fried doughnut balls with halfway-gooey centers, and a side of caramel dipping sauce. So, so good. The menu changes, but the service doesn't. My servers have been consistently terrific; charming, friendly, informative and attentive. An anecdote to illustrate this: I was discussing with the table my love of Oreos. Our waiter (Gus) overheard, and joined in the conversation as a fellow Oreo lover. Our meal went on, and when it came time for dessert, I got a small plate with a single Oreo, and a small glass of milk. I was amazed they had these in the restaurant... but they hadn't. Gus had *run down the street and bought a pack*, just to give me the one. That, my friends, is service. Cannot recommend Mima's highly enough. If you live nearby... consider me jealous. read more

I ate at Mima for my 25th birthday dinner. It was amazing. One of the best Italian restaurants I've been too in a long time! The same owners run Zuppa in Yonkers which is also very good. The eight of us started with an assortment of cheeses and salumi. The entrees included: braised short ribs, artichoke and sheep's milk ravioli, filet mignon, fig and port wine glazed pork tenderloin and rigatoni bolonese. Because I was the birthday girl I insisted I had to try everyone's dish. One dish was better than the next!! We continued with an assortment of desserts which were also fabulous! Came here on Sat for a surprise 60th Birthday Party in the late afternoon and I have to say the food was DELICIOUS and service was top notch. From the Cured Meats, and Cheese platters to the Pasta, Fish, and Short Ribs everything was delicious and cooked to perfection... Yum! Yum! We sat in the back room that was bright and sunny, not dark and gloomy as I remember it in the past. Honestly if I ever host a party for over 20 people I will think about getting a sales quote from this place first. Lamb ragout with homemade mint pasta. Sue. Purr. Gud. We were looking for a relaxing but special late Saturday dinner a couple of weeks ago, and we found it at Mima. Without a reservation, we were happy to take the lesser bad of the two bad Mima tables right near the front door (BTW if you have the foresight and you're a 2-top, you might try to request the awesome window table at the front of the building, it looked fun). The server was very patient with us as we pored over the menu, although, in the meantime, she never thought to bring us bread, which, several minutes after we placed our order, we had to request from a busboy (6 commas--sorry). He acted like it was ridiculous that we didn't have bread, which we appreciated. (Our bread experience sounds like another posted here.) Overall the service was good. The food was also good. The lamb ragout with homemade mint pasta might sound crazy but it was awesome and unique and I would love to have a bowl of it once a week. The pork shank was huge and tender, with boldly garlicky rabe and boldly black-peppery mashed potatoes. The fresh berries with mascarpone cream were tasty, although we didn't get quite the mascarpone flavor we wanted. The wine was also good. They sell 6 oz glasses for $9-12, which is kind of awesome because its basically a glass of wine plus another half-glass, which they serve you in a little carafe. Pretty sweet if a glass isn't enough but a bottle is too much for the table. For some reason we really like all of the little touches at Mima--glassware, candleholder, etc., and especially the little olive oil server. read more

So I came here with a friend the other day and I'll definitely be back. First off, I came on a wonderful night where it was half price bottles. They had a good selection of wines. The sommelier helped guide us and pick out the perfect bottle of wine. Plus I love how they left it in the back, I'm guessing in a cooler or fridge and even when I was coming close to having an empty glass here they were again refilling my glass. The service here was awesome, really nice workers. Very helpful with my vegetarian friend on letting her know that they can accommodate most pastas and make it veg and also let us know that they also do half orders of pasta as well. We were sat in the bar section, not in the back room. And one thing I don't like is how the tables are really close to each other. Once I sat down they put a family right next to us with 2 boys and their parents which I hated. No offense to them but I do like to talk about things that shouldn't be heard by little boys reaching puberty. They might grow up sooner. And another thing is that their bathroom lock was a bit strange. I mean not for me but the lady before might have turned the lock the other way and realized when I opened the door that it wasn't locked and started screaming so loud the whole bar heard her. I just ran right out apologized and then started to laugh. The workers there were funny as hell and asked me if I saw anything as a joke. I just answered back no she screamed before I was able to. Food was good. The burrata was very creamy and delicious although the tomatoes I ate were a little too ripe for my liking. The bresaola I will skip next time, it was a bit too stank for my liking. But I had some delicious cheeses and was so full for my half order of ravioli but I didn't want to seem like a wuss and can't finish 4 raviolis. I had the homemade sweet corn ravioli which was gritty but delicious lol. The bill shocked me I couldn't believe it was only $86. And that has been one of the cheaper nicer meals I had in a while. When this place opened, I stopped feeling like I needed to go to Manhattan for a consistently great meal. We come here a lot. We generally get the salads and if with my kids, an array of cured meats. Proscuitto and spicy sausage are favorites. Although sometimes I get the beets. We typically stick to the pastas, which are named after the shape and you have to look at the description. I love them all. Shrimp bottarga is different and great. The carbonara (they don't call it that) is a huge fave with the kids. And they always have a special or two, which I try. Dessert: the bombolini are so good, my kids use the word "bombolini" as a euphemism for something beyond unbelievable. Namesake: I love all the southern Italian wines of the day. You don't find them too many other places, and they are always interesting. Only problem is my wife and I argue over who will be designated driver. Have been before and am always very very happy with the meals, but just went there for my birthday the other night and it was something special !!! One of the specials that night was Veal Osso Bucco which any Italian will tell you is one of the best things known to this world when done correctly. I was with a party of three and we all ended up getting it!!! It is now almost 7days later and I still think about that and my group still talks about how amazing this meal was. The meat was soo juicy and literally fell off the bone, this showed that the cook really put an extreme effort into this and was working on this meat all day. I don't know what else to say except that it was one of the best meals I have ever had. The homemade desserts really were a nice end to the meal as well. Third times not a charm. Liked the place tasting several appetizers and the chicken scarpariello and returned. On return the burger was blah (a previous time we noticed how nice the burger looked) and the chicken scarpariello not good at all. My friend doesn't like to complain and only mentioned that there seemed to be alot of potatoes in the dish and asked me to taste the chicken. The chicken was in big clumps and dry as a bone and there was no sausage or peppers at all. The fries with the burger were thick or very thin and the thick ones undercooked. I supposed we should've said something right there but neglected to do so. Don't understand the change in service as well. The table by the window was frustrated and had to get up and complain about the service. What could've caused the let down? I wonder. Cute Italian restaurant with tasty food. The service was very good--I was there on a Tuesday so it wasn't very crowded, but our waiter was excellent. He knew the menu very well and gave thoughtful recommendations. Good wine selection both by the glass and the bottle. My friend and I shared the shaved Brussel sprout salad, the meatballs, and the entree special they had which was red snapper. All were excellent, my favorite being the meatballs. This is my first ever internet review........I am going to try to stick with the FSA (Food, Service, Atmosphere) This is the 2nd time I have been to Mima Vinoteca, and I plan on going back again. Food: Appetizer: The 3 choices off meat & cheese board is a good size for 2 people. Try the Speck - deliciously tender, a saltier, smokier prosciutto. The porchetta was like a biting into juicier thin slices of ham, and the fontina cheese was mild & creamy. Entrees: My wife had cavatelli with brussel sprouts & pancetta - very good. I had the orecchiette with bacon, parsley & raw egg on top - this is a winner of a dish - a must have. I believe all their pasta is house made; all with great texture. It is going to be tough to move to the entrees here, considering how good their pastas are. Dessert: My wife had the tiramisu, and I had the strawberry cheesecake. Both very good. Service: Very helpful waitstaff that answered our questions about the menu. They did not hover, and did not rush us, which is equally important. Glasses of wine came out very quickly, as did the food, with just enough spacing in between courses. Atmosphere: Not a big restaurant, but very homey. I think reservations are a must, particularly on weekends. Recommend asking for the back room for more privacy than the front of the house, where it can get a bit crowded when people start to arrive. read more
