Upon a suggestion from my friend, she and I went to Milton's today for lunch. The outside doesn't give this restaurant justice! What a quaint and cozy surprise lies inside! The fish water pitchers on the tables are very unique, along with mason jars for drinking. There is a varied menu of food to choose from. I decided upon the Jerk Chicken salad. The salad was fabulous, but unfortunately didn't live up to the "jerk" part of it! I had the dressing on the side ( yup, trying to lose a couple of pounds). When I asked the waitress if I could try the champagne vinaigrette dressing, she asked if there was something wrong with the dressing that I had. I told her I thought it might taste better with a vinaigrette. Instead of bringing me the dressing I asked for, she suggested that I try my friend's vinagrette. I said it was good, so she never brought me mine. We asked for bread, which took awhile. I can understand this as a server myself, but I always believe in letting the guest know what is going on so they don't think that I forgot about them. My friend also had a salad ( Milton's salad), which looked incredible as well! My friend conned me into sharing dessert--- a banana pie/ cake thing that was huge and decadent! I would definately give Milton's another try. There are some things that need to be tweaked in both food and service. I hope that next time I go back I can give it a 5 star, because it has great potential ! read more

BEST tomato basil soup anywhere! I've tried tomato basil soup at many restaurants and Miltons is superior. The carrot cake is so dense and the frosting is thick. So good! read more

Milton's is consistently amazing! Have been here too many times to count and haven't been disappointed yet. Had dinner last night and still thinking about the amazing mussels! We got there when it was quite busy so had to wait a bit but didn't mind at all. Got a table with Joe as our server but we ended up moving to a quieter table in the corner and he was not in our section. Waiter who replaced him was not as friendly as Joe but the food made up for it. My mussels were incredible, came in a creamy tomato sauce that I couldn't get enough of. Boyfriend had ribs, said they were a little dry but still good, still finished his meal. Also got a side of Mac and cheese which is always good! read more

One of the absolute best places I've eaten at in Minnesota, and I don't say that lightly. My honey and I stopped in for a quick lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is welcoming and unique. The food OMG was AMAZING. I had the Jerk chicken with Coconut rice and peas. For desert we had rum cake. What a great addition to the neighborhood! Microbrew on tap, tasty burgers, reasonable prices, nice style in decor. Only downside....it's on the small side. Demand for tables is creating a wait. Rumor is that the city council would not let them expand the initial design, fearing parking issues. If that's true, it's unfortunate. This place is local to the NW 'burbs, but has a Calhoun/Uptown vibe, and a tasty menu that's value priced. I'll be back again...and again...and again. And there's FULTON on tap...YEA!!! read more

This place was excellent! Menu small enough to not feel overwhelming, and with reasonable prices, too. We tried the clam chowder, which tasted like it was made in-house. Next was a nice house salad with goat cheese and poppy-seed dressing. Then I had the jerk chicken and my husband got the ribeye sandwich. The meat on the sandwich was cooked nicely but I think there could have been more of it. Maybe a less expensive cut could have helped the dish stay within the $11 price point without feeling skimpy. The fries that came with it were not extraordinary but were crispy and well seasoned, though we were a little disappointed that they were not freshly made like everything else we were eating seemed to be. The jerk chicken was delightful. The seasoning on it was strong enough to merit the name but restrained, and an extra cup of it was on the side in case you wanted it extra spicy. It came with the kale, and I chose mac and cheese for my other side, which was very nice. I don't like kale generally, but this kale was starting to change my mind. We had the bananas foster for dessert, and the caramel sauce was delightful. The wine and beer selections were big enough to feel like you had a lot of options without being too overwhelming, and a lot of craft and local beers were included in the list. The only thing I did not really like was the stool I was sitting on. When we gave our name to the host we were told there was a shorter wait for a high top, and we were all about the shorter wait, not expecting the high top to be a backless stool at a counter in the corner of the dining room. There was no foot rail so it was hard to figure out what to do with your feet and the seat of the stool was not very comfortable. It just made me not want to sit there for very long. Maybe if they reworked it so there was a corner booth/ banquette there it would still be a valuable use of their real estate without feeling so uncomfortable. Although I know they probably wouldn't be in a hurry to redecorate their already-beautiful restaurant when it's still so new. So I guess now I know to just wait for a regular table. Which I will, because I will definitely be back. read more

Tried Milton's tonight for the first time. The food was great. The staff was fine. Two problems. We made a reservation for 5:30, the only reservation that they had, and had to wait until 6:00 to be seated. And the music was too loud. I like background, not foreground, music. I shouldn't have to raise my voice to be heard by the other three people at my table. read more

Went here for the first time on valentines day. It was about 10:30 at night and they were supposed to be closing their kitchen but kept it open for us, but could only serve fried foods which we were okay with. Really good service and friendly people. "Macklemore" was our server, not his real name by the way but very nice guy. Very knowledgable about the menu. We got the Milton's wings and some fried pickles, both of which came with jalapeño ranch which had a nice kick. Will defiantly be back here to try their regular entrees or breakfast. read more

One of the best restaurants in the Twin Cities! The food is amazing, I have enjoyed everything - breakfast, lunch and dinner. We've been coming here since they first opened. There were some issues during their soft open as far as really long wait times and an inconsistent menu. I'm so half resident give up!! They've really come into their own. Service is now speedy and friendly. Food is consistent and delicious! (Their kale is to die for!!). So glad a place like this has opened near us! read more

5/23/2015....Been eating there for sometime, one of our favorite places....most of time everything is spot on....tonight Fran ( owner ) not around....1 of our party of 4 has hearing aid....music was to loud for a dinner atmosphere and he had problem with back ground music...Jerk chicken was dry,over cooked....back ribs same.....plank salmon perfect, shrimp and grits perfect.....some confusion with the staff about what was on the menu and what was not....we will definitely go back again ...I think Fran needs to keep closer eye on this wonderful place so close to home.... read more

This place is a hidden little gem. A cousin of ours told us about it and we were dying to try it out for a couple of months based on looking at the on-line menu. I can say the place didn't disappoint. We have now been to the place twice in the last month, taking relatives with us on the second visit the day before July 4th. We've tried the jerk chicken and Caribbean beans & rice, the full order of wings, kale salad, mac and cheese and chopped jerk chicken salad. For drinks, we've tried vodka cranberry, the sangria red and white which both are a great casual summer drink. Great place and I'm sure we'll be back! read more

My wife and I stumbled onto this place while unable to decide what to eat while out running errands. We were more than pleasantly surprised. We've now been a half dozen times or more and the food has always been great and the service even better. Get the kale, even if you don't think it'll go with your dish... Had breakfast there for my wife's birthday. Service was poor, food was o.k., mimosa's were very expensive. Then the waitress asked us if we would like of carrot cake for the special event. We said "sure" not knowing it was going to cost us $5!!! Bait and switch if you ask me. Waitress was grumpy and didn't seem to want to be there. We ate at Milton's for the first time last night. It was fantastic from start to finish. Our server was great, very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable in helping us decide what to have. We started with the French Onion Soup, dark, rich flavorful broth with silky soft onions and smothered in melted cheese. The starter salad was pretty basic (mixed greens, cucumber, tomato and a dollop of smooth goat cheese) until you topped it with their homemade Green Goddess dressing that was so creamy, garlicky and herbaceous I wanted to lick my plate. We had a Steak and Crab leg special for our entrees. Everything was cooked very simply (salt and pepper, lemon) but perfectly. It tasted like a summer day at a Cape Cod backyard grill out. The crab legs were huge and the meat succulent. The steak had a perfect slightly salty sear on the outside and was juicy and done to my exact request. This plate was such a great example of simple preparation done right. Great job Milton's! We will be back. read more

WOW! I have been waiting almost 8 years for a restaurant to open that I could actually eat at in Crystal. Food is a A+++!!! Keep it up!

My wife and were so excited to try out this new spot based on the recommendation of a friend and because it is within walking distance of our house. I didn't have very high expectations since I'm quite demanding about how food is prepared, service standards, cleanliness etc and since most new restaurants typically only figure out 1 of the 3. We had a wait of about 45 minutes but the restaurant is small and clearly popular, so we were just fine with that. A couple that arrived before we did were quite upset by the wait and left moving us up in line...their loss. The entire place is quite cozy and diners seem to hang out for quite a long time. I can't blame them but I hope the owners can increase capacity to accommodate more diners. The menu is quite simple and reads like typical pub food; Ribs, Burgers, Jerk Chicken, Ribs and sandwiches. What puts it over the top is the quality of ingredients and excellent preparation. Entrees come with a side salad that uses quality greens and is served with your choice of scratch made dressings. Wilted Kale is served with the entree and is savory and flavorful without dominating the plate. This is now my favorite way to eat kale. I had the ribs which are prepared with a dry rub and are very tasty. I'm a big guy and the half rack was plenty. They were a bit cool but I prefer that to ribs that have been dried out by a heat lamp. I paired the ribs with an apple salad (I never order such things but thought I would branch out). It was light with herbs and chunks of swiss cheese. Delicious! The service was outstanding. Although they were busy, the staff was attentive, taking beer and wine orders while we waited. They also served samples of an off menu appetizer and another of chicken wings. Our waitress (Mary) was attentive and friendly. She clearly loves her job and the people she works with and is very proud of the establishment. She was a superstar! The beer selection is solid with a well chosen lineup of microbrews on tap and plenty of bottled choices. Beer and wine prices are outstanding for the area. Some possible issues down the road include the fact that there is only 1 unisex bathroom and if they add capacity, that could be troublesome. Outdoor dining would be fantastic but the street in front of the restaurant (Douglas Drive) is very busy and steps will need to be taken to ensure diner safety. This is my new favorite restaurant in the area. Staff is wonderful, the food is excellent, the decor is so warm and inviting and prices are ridiculously low. Loved it! read more

This family owned cafe is a great little neighborhood restaurant. The food was good, reasonably priced and they have a great beer list. I had the plank salmon and it was delicious. It was fresh, perfectly cooked and topped with a nice sauce. It came with a side of kale, a garden salad, and choice of side for $11.95. I don't know of another place in the city where you can get salmon that good for that price. My only complaint on the food was that my mac 'n' cheese side was lukewarm, but still tasty. My husband had the steak sandwich and fries. The steak was well-done which made the meat a little tough, but the sauce that they topped it with had good flavor. We finished off with the banana's foster and it was delicious. The caramel they topped it with was abundantly amazing! The staff is extremely friendly and you can tell they take great pride in the food. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, although they could probably get a few more tables in there if they laid it out differently. But, they have food samples and serve drinks while you wait for a table which is nice. The only other complaint is that there is only one restroom so expect a line. Overall, this is a wonderful establishment and we will definitely go back. read more

We went to Milton's two weeks ago and I'm just dying to go back! We tripped across it during a bike ride and returned that night for dinner with friends. The atmosphere is great - love the dark distressed woodwork and sofa in the waiting area. The bar itself is beautiful. They don't serve hard liquor, but our friends had Bloody Mary's that were made with Sake and they were AMAZING. We started with fried pickles and chicken wings - both were pretty standard but good. The burger was delicious. I had the Portabella sandwich, which was good. The Greek Goddess dressing was delicious and I saved mine to use on other foods. Our friends had the planked salmon (kale is superb) and the jerk chicken (lots of chicken!) which both had great flavor. The table next to us had the special, which was grits and jerk shrimp and they loved it. I've read mixed reviews on the mac n' cheese, and being a self-proclaimed expert, I thought it was creamy and I'll be ordering it myself next time! Our server was Neysa and she WAS THE BEST SERVER EVER. Loved this place and will be back often! read more
