...I grew up on 36th...so on my day off I was excited to finally try this restaurant. I sat at the bar and told them it was my first visit. I was greeted warmly and given all of the menus to look at for future dining. I ordered the ribeye sandwich. My first question to myself was... I wasn't asked how I wanted my steak done...when it arrived with the fries I noticed the fries were common thin fries and my steak was thin and well done. It did have good flavor. But, I was peeling back the bun to have more steak. I was taken aback a bit by the server that was mine at the bar...she kept yelling over me to a table behind me teasing with them...saying she was sorry, but they were regulars. ? I'm sooo glad I found out about Milton's! I'm so tired of the un-original cookie cutter franchises with bad to mediocre food. I've been 3 times in less than a month, and enjoyed each visit. I would have to travel to Memphis to find ribs as good, and to Jamaica to find jerk chicken as good. I love everything about the place, and wouldn't change a thing. My only worry, is too many people finding out about this hidden gem, thus making it harder to get into. My goal is to eventually get around to sampling everything on the menu. It was Saturday morning and my wife and I decided to try Milton's for breakfast. While we were occasional evening customers we had just noticed that breakfast was being served. Well, we were blown away with overall quality and value of the meals. Where else can you get 2 eggs, 3 strips of bacon, hash browns, toast with a lovely fruit dish for under six bucks. The service was exceptional as well, just right and not overbearing. And, there is that extra special touch you get at Milton's. The warn cozy friendly ambiance is like no other breakfast setting in the area. The interior design and decor is a delight and reeks of character. We have been eating breakfast out about twice a month since we moved to the state 25 years ago and we find Milton's to have no equal thus far in the TC area. read more

What makes this place unique is the atomphere and ambiance - hardwood tables and a gurgle pot at each one. Everything on the menu is very fresh - everything tastes good - most of the stuff is not THE best version ever, but still very good (ie the ribs). I can't believe I haven't visited this gem before last weekend- it's absolutely delicious! I enjoyed the jerk chicken tremendously; a nice level of heat and great smokiness. My mother had ribs and French onion soup to start, both were excellent. I will definitely be back to try more dishes, many of the daily specials look great! The food is always amazing......after having drinks, dinner, breakfast many times the food has never disappointed. The atmosphere is casual so if they are busy and you're in a hurry stay calm because the nice, personal service they give to everyone is worth it. I live in the neighborhood and drive by every day on my way to and from work. I'll start by saying everything I've ordered has been great. That being said, I've never felt welcome when I've come in to get take out. The last time I called I waited about 10 minutes on the phone to place an order and then hung up and called back. When I got home, part of the order was missing and it was too much work to deal with it. I stopped again today because of the Dining Out for AIDS Day and again, didn't feel welcome with my business. I walked in and my order was sitting by the register and I was told that someone else would help me, which took a few minutes and this was not long after 5. read more

A neat little spot in the middle of a strip mall - great decor, seating is a little tight, service was okay and food was decent.

I tried to make a reservation but they will only take them for parties of six. The three of us watched people being seated in bigger and smaller groups for an hour until we finally gave up and left. Either you take reservations or you don't. I will give them 2 stars for the aroma of food since that is as close as we got. read more

Very pleasant experience. Staff was warm & professional. We took advantage of beautiful weather & sat outside. Menu is small but more then adequate. Everything we had exceeded our expectations. Friendly atmosphere from staff to other guests. The 4 of us shared a wonderful caprese salad & the mac & cheese,French onion soup, & Tomato basil soup. Followed with Salmon on a plank,perfectly cooked with a lovely honey & mustard glaze, Ribs seasoned well, and jerk chicken with additional jerk sauce on the side. All where served with fresh corn on the cob with an amazing herb creme cheese which was a nice touch . Also enjoyed apple salads, more mac & chess, A couple of bottles of Hess Select Cab followed by coffee, rum cake & Bananas Foster. Every item was excellent! All that fine food & Service including the 2 bottles of wine was less then $180! They also have plenty of on site parking and a bar. They were busy, especially for a Thursday night. Our evening finished nicely with a visit from Fran, the owner/chef who explained almost all employees where either family or fiends of the family. She said she has put together the menu from dishes she served at home. Only regrets were not having room for the nachos with ribs which other dinners were enjoying and raving about & the nightly special, shrimp & grits. While the 4 of us live on the St Paul side of the cities, we will be back often. This is a true "Neighborhood Gem" worth a trip to get to! read more

A really great option for us on the north side of town. The menu was limited, but the choices provided enough variety that everyone from my 12 yo son to my 65 yo mother found something they loved. A vast beer list and affordable wine list also made for good choices! The only kink was in the service. Very friendly, but clearly still working out timing issues. The decor makes you forget that you are in a strip mall. I'm convinced that the next time I go back I could rate it 5 stars. A wonderful addition to the neighborhood. read more

I love small neighborhood restaurants!!! This Is a gem In Crystal . Great selection of craft beers and wine. Sat at the bar and had a glass of red wine(I love a good wine glass and cloth napkins) had the salmon that was grilled on a plank, kale,and the mac& cheese. It was great!!! And then topped it off w/ Banana Foster that had home made caramel... service is very attentive and friendly..can't wait to sit outside this summer and try everything on the menu!!! read more

Sounds like a fun place to go. Hopefully they will adjust their hours so more people can experience what they have for dinner. Open from 11am to 7pm does not give a lot of people who work a chance to try it out during the week. Too bad as there are not a lot of restaurant options in this area. Closing at 7pm rules out a lot of families or couples who work during the day. Look forward to trying it out on the weekend however. read more

I'm writing this review to give kudos to the manager, Charlene, who today offered my friend and I an extraordinary act of kindness. My friend had the flu and was stuck at home drinking canned chicken soup. I decided to call Milton's (I'm in New York) for delivery of their famous Matzo Ball soup. There were two problems: 1. Milton's doesn't do delivery and 2. There was a blizzard. Did that stop Charlene? No! To do 2 strangers a kindness, she offered to take the soup to my friend's house in the blizzard! My friend was so happy to receive this wholesome, made-from-scratch soup. She described it as: "real chicken broth with rich, deep flavor and whenever I am sick, I now know where to go." She was able to share it with her daughter, who is also sick. I haven't tasted the food myself, but I am confident that with the amount of care Charlene is willing to put into customer service, she is putting great efforts into making delicious food. I am looking forward to my next visit to Minnesota when i can eat at Milton's. read more

After reading the great reviews I was really excited to check this place out. I ordered the Rib Scrambler and I literally got 2 small bites of ribs in the entire dish and it was made with green peppers instead of jalapeños (as the menu said) and I'm not even sure it had cheese in it. ‍ Personally, I love green peppers - and the big bites of mushrooms were delicious - so I still enjoyed my food, but was also disappointed that it wasn't what I ordered. Service was just ok, it was clear to see that your catering business takes up a lot of their time - but I heard multiple excuses from a couple different workers about the wait and service that it's "the catering's" fault for the mistakes/wait. You shouldn't have to sacrifice service (or make excuses) for your in-store customers! My waiter/bartender (I sat at the bar) was very friendly, but since he was busy with catering orders I had to wave him down to grab both my order and my tab. Overall, your menu looks delicious and makes me want to come back (and honestly, I probably will) but I was also taken aback by your "watch for bones" and "no splitting" and "no refills" (too many rules/negativity) comments on the menu. A very nice birthday celebration for my husband. Just happened to find it on Yelp and so glad we did. Tucked away in a small strip mall, it would be easy to miss driving by. Fortunately they now have patio seating with fun turquoise umbrellas. Very cozy, moderately small space well designed. We sat at the bar and watched the place fill up with all age groups, including children, who had a play area to keep them busy. An interesting menu, with southern themed choices. Birthday boy had shrimp & grits, which was delicious. The grits were cheesy and elegant; also offered as a side dish. The happy hour menu offered good drink prices and appetizers; we split the pulled pork BBQ sandwich with purple cole slaw - very tasty. I had Milton's caprese salad, which was very refreshing. It featured pickled green tomatoes - ridiculously tasty. Additional spring greens and drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. We ended the meal with bananas Foster! A wonderful place to grab a bite to eat. The food is Amazing and the staff are awesome. I had the Jamaican Jerk Chicken with coconut rice and peas. I've also had their rum cake, and banana cream pie. All of their food is homemade and taste good, I cannot say enough good things about this place. The portions are good and the price is great. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. A friend recommended this place and the first time I went it was quite good. But my recent visit was quite disappointing. The quality of food had gone down hill. It was not as tasty as it had been. Also, the tables were so close I felt like I was almost sitting on top my the parties on either side of my table. Not a bad thing in most place where you can talk to your neighbors. But in Minnesota people don't talk to strangers. And the fact that people are very uptight (Fargo style) makes being so close very uncomfortable. read more

Went for dinner at Milton's on the recommendation of a friend. It's a small place in a mundane looking strip mall. However, inside, it is extremely homey and welcoming, as is the staff. The food was excellent. My wife and I shared a very large Cobb salad upon our waiter's recommendation - delicious. Also, following Christian's suggestion, I had the French onion soup. It was sweet and, certainly, as good as I've had anywhere. A friend had the jerk chicken with kale, both very tasty as well. We will go back, both for dinner and breakfast, which they serve as well. Although the menus for both dinner and breakfast are relatively small, there are a lot of very interesting items to chose from. This place is a find! read more

Upon a suggestion from my friend, she and I went to Milton's today for lunch. The outside doesn't give this restaurant justice! What a quaint and cozy surprise lies inside! The fish water pitchers on the tables are very unique, along with mason jars for drinking. There is a varied menu of food to choose from. I decided upon the Jerk Chicken salad. The salad was fabulous, but unfortunately didn't live up to the "jerk" part of it! I had the dressing on the side ( yup, trying to lose a couple of pounds). When I asked the waitress if I could try the champagne vinaigrette dressing, she asked if there was something wrong with the dressing that I had. I told her I thought it might taste better with a vinaigrette. Instead of bringing me the dressing I asked for, she suggested that I try my friend's vinagrette. I said it was good, so she never brought me mine. We asked for bread, which took awhile. I can understand this as a server myself, but I always believe in letting the guest know what is going on so they don't think that I forgot about them. My friend also had a salad ( Milton's salad), which looked incredible as well! My friend conned me into sharing dessert--- a banana pie/ cake thing that was huge and decadent! I would definately give Milton's another try. There are some things that need to be tweaked in both food and service. I hope that next time I go back I can give it a 5 star, because it has great potential ! read more
