My cake order form also specifically states "White BC vintage design as in the pic," "Gold pearls accent," and "Gold BC writing." When they first brought the cake out, I was immediately disappointed because the cake was yellow instead of the white cake I ordered, and the gold writing was uneven and looked nothing like the inspiration photo. Unfortunately, I didn't take a photo of the first version. At that point, correcting the color would have required the cake to be completely redone. Because I was picking it up for my birthday celebration and didn't have time to wait for an entirely new cake, I told them I was willing to accept the yellow color, even though it was not what I originally ordered. I still wish I had received the white cake I paid for. What I did ask them to correct was the writing so that it looked more like the inspiration photo I provided. The second attempt at the writing somehow looked even worse and extremely rushed. The lettering was thin and uneven and did not resemble the cursive lettering in my reference photo. The metallic "gold" paint also appeared brown rather than the bright gold shown in the inspiration. What really turned this into such a terrible experience, however, was the way I was treated for simply expressing that I was unhappy with what I received. A blonde employee came out and spoke to me in a manner that I found incredibly rude, aggressive, and confrontational. She insisted that there are only two types of gold paint used in the industry, told me that the writing was gold and not brown, and said it only looked brown because there wasn't a candle shining on it. When I took a photo of the second attempt, she actually told me not to post that picture in my review because they were going to change it. That made absolutely no sense to me. If I had accepted the cake at that point, that was the cake they were prepared to let me walk out with. Why shouldn't I photograph what was presented to me? She even acknowledged that they had rushed the second attempt and understood that the "28" didn't look the best. By this point, I was so overwhelmed and upset by the interaction that I went to my car and cried. Picking up my birthday cake should have been an exciting experience. Instead, I was sitting in my car crying because of how I had just been treated while simply trying to get the cake I ordered. They redid the writing a third time, and thankfully, that version was significantly better and much closer to the inspiration photo. I accepted the cake and took it home. I appreciate that they ultimately corrected the writing, but it should not have taken three versions of the cake and such an unpleasant interaction to receive something resembling what I ordered. To make matters worse, there was also a discrepancy with the price. My cake order form shows an itemized total of $200, but my receipt shows that I was actually charged $230. I have documentation of both amounts. I understand that handmade cakes will not be exact replicas of inspiration photos, and mistakes can happen. Had the situation been handled kindly and professionally, I would have been much more understanding. I was already willing to compromise by accepting a yellow cake even though I specifically ordered white because I didn't have time for the entire cake to be remade. Instead, I dealt with a cake that was not the color I ordered, multiple attempts to correct the writing, an employee who was unnecessarily confrontational when I raised legitimate concerns, and a $30 discrepancy between the documented price and what I was charged. I've included the inspiration photo, the second attempt, the third/final attempt, my cake order form showing what I ordered and the $200 total, and my receipt showing the $230 charge so people can see everything for themselves. The final cake was improved, but the overall experience and customer service were unacceptable. I would not return.

UPDATE: People, if you want to try this place, knock yourselves out. But whatever you do, don't leave a negative review on Yelp! I had just posted my two-star review (below) when the owner came out and asked me, loudly and sharply, why I was trying to kill his business. He told me to leave and never come back unless I edited my review to three stars. WTF?? The conversation escalated as he ranted about how hard he works, "for [me] to come in and leave a bad review, just over milk." I told him I had worked for an immigrant-family-owned cafe, and I knew EXACTLY how hard he worked. I also told him that they (my previous employers) would Never have talked to a customer as he just had. Holy mackerel, if this is the way they treat someone for a bad review (of which not a Single Word was an untruth or an exaggeration), it's no wonder the place is empty on a day when any Starbucks is overflowing from open to close. I will never be back here. Ever. Below is my original review: Wow. After reading such great reviews I was prepared to love this place. I was looking for a coffee joint, not too busy, where I could hang out and knit and/or sketch. I should have turned on my heel as soon as I saw that the place was EMPTY at 10:15 on a Sunday morning. I hope it's just that Sunday if not their best day, traffic-wise, so they have their third-string working the counter. A dull-witted high school kid looked and acted as if she could not have cared less whether I stayed or left. I ordered a jalapeño kolache and a cup of coffee. When I asked for half and half in my coffee, she looked at me like I was telling her about my recent trip to Mars. "Oh, we don't have *that.*" I asked incredulously, "you don't have cream for the coffee?" Her response: "just what's over there," waving her hand in the general direction of my right shoulder. I was, um, dismayed to see that the only whitener they had was Coffee-Mate pods. Is this a bakery or a police station?? There was worse to come. I opened up two of the pods, dumped them into the battery acid they call coffee, only to find that it was French Vanilla-flavored Coffee-Mate. UGHHHH. She was fairly gracious but unapologetic as she poured me a fresh cup of coffee. For a "bakery," their pastry case is disappointing. Three flavors of croissants, a few cake pops and eclairs, and two lonely kolaches in the bottom of the case, of which I ordered the jalapeño version. She didn't ask me if I wanted any condiments with it, so I figured mustard packets were on the same counter as the sugar and whitener and I just hadn't noticed. Nope. I asked her if they had mustard and she said yes, then disappeared into the kitchen for a few seconds then came out with a little plastic cup, opened up their sandwich-fixin's case, only to find that the mustard was empty. By the time I got my mustard the kolache had had time to cool off and the grease rise to prominence on the skin of the sausage. Flavor was great, grease not so much. As I have been writing this, a couple small groups of people have come in, which is heartening. The girl behind the counter was very chatty with the first group (who were also here for the first time); she gave them menus (wait, you have menus?? Not just "the stuff in the pastry case," as I had been told), told them about the place, that it had been here a year and a half, and it was owned by her parents, who were from Belgium. A few minutes after I finished my kolache, the owner came out and asked about my experience eating there. He seemed a nice man, but I had to be honest... only way to improve is to know what's wrong, right? I gave him the Cliff Notes version of the above experience, and he seemed genuinely concerned, especially about the coffee mate, saying they would work on having actual milk or cream for the coffee. I ended by telling him that I would give it another try. He later came over to ask if I needed internet access, which I did, but instead of giving me the password for patrons, he took my laptop to type in the password, which didn't actually work. *sigh* read more

I was extremely disappointed with my experience today at Millstone Bakery. I visited the bakery with the intention of placing a custom cake order for pickup on January 1, 2025. I had already called ahead to inquire about their process and was prepared with a clear description and a picture of the cake I wanted. Upon arrival, the cashier who assisted me was pleasant and courteous, but unfortunately, the management team's response was less than professional. After I explained my request, the cashier kindly went to the back to ask management to speak with me regarding the custom cake order. However, I was told that the team was too busy preparing for Christmas orders and that they couldn't spare a few minutes to discuss my needs in person. Instead, I was advised to send an email with my request. At that moment, I decided to leave the bakery. If a business can't take 3 to 5 minutes to engage with a customer and process a simple cake order, especially when that customer has already made the effort to call ahead and is ready to commit to a purchase, then I have no interest in supporting them. I firmly believe that customer service and attentiveness should be a priority, regardless of the time of year. Unfortunately, Millstone Bakery's management failed to demonstrate this, and as a result, I will not be returning. read more

I recently ordered a cake from Millstone Bakery and I couldn't be happier with the entire experience! From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. There was a particular lady who went above and beyond to make sure my cake was perfect. I brought in a picture of the design I wanted, and the cake turned out exactly like the picture! It was beautifully crafted and looked absolutely stunning. But the best part was definitely the taste. The cake was incredibly fresh and flavorful - it truly exceeded my expectations. We ended up getting the coconut and the strawberry lemonade cakes. The strawberry lemonade We would rate 4 out of 10. The flavoring was good. The lemon needed a little more sourness. The overwhelming sweetness was the main factor for the rating. It tastes like fruit loops with extra sugar. We would not buy this flavor again. The coconut We would rate 9.5 out of 10. The only issue was again the sweetness. It could have gone down by like 25% and been perfect. Would buy again for sure. Overall if we're in the area again we would try other flavors.

I could hardly taste the lemon or the strawberry. It was like both flavors needed that extra oomph. My favorite was the Amaretto cupcake it was just a tad bit too salty!! Also would have appreciated maybe a lemon buttercream or strawberry buttercream instead of cream cheese frosting I feel like adding the fruit flavored buttercream on top of the fruit cupcake would have helped find that fruit flavor.

Well...sadly I think things have changed since he last had one of their cupcakes. I wouldn't call them "Texas sized" as their website mentions. I give them a 7/10 on presentation and a 5/10 on taste. I don't think they are good enough to cost $6 a cupcake so we probably won't be back, but was worth a shot.

I had enough points to use towards getting one free cookie so I got the Benson Boone Moonbeam Ice Cream cookie, and a 4 pack of cookies which included Chocolate Cheesecake, Lemon Cake, Raspberry Butter Cake and Snickers Peanut Butter cookies.
